Chapter 78 Don’t underestimate students
by SunflowerWhat was it like to teach over three hundred people?
Over two hundred pairs of eyes watched him simultaneously, filled with curiosity, expectation, and doubt.
Muzuki had reason to believe that if it were a more introverted person, they would probably find it difficult to speak while being stared at by so many eyes.
However, Muzuki was no ordinary person; the more students there were, the happier and more excited he became.
“Hello everyone, I am Hayate Mugetsu, and I am the teacher in charge of this summer special training,” Muzuki said with a gentle smile, introducing himself.
Although he was quite well-known at the Ninja Academy, and there were classes he had substituted for among them, Muzuki didn’t think everyone recognized him or his face, so a self-introduction was necessary.
“Teacher Muzuki!” some students who were more familiar with Muzuki enthusiastically greeted him.
Muzuki smiled and nodded in response, then continued:
“I know many of you have doubts about why a summer special training is being held after the holidays, and what its purpose is.”
“I can tell you clearly now that this special training has only one goal: to improve the strength of the participating students so that they can become more qualified Ninja in the future!”
Muzuki didn’t say the too cruel words, such as dealing with potential war crises.
After all, the great war hadn’t officially broken out yet, and even the most crisis-aware Konoha Ninja probably wouldn’t have imagined that Konoha would gradually become the center of war, being besieged by the Four Great Shinobi Villages.
“How will the special training be conducted? You can’t expect us Genin to undergo the same training as the students, can you? The strength of official Ninja and students is not on the same level,” Raido Namiashi asked.
He was Asuma’s teammate, brought over by Asuma.
Raido Namiashi felt he had been tricked; how could a Chunin teacher be as powerful as Asuma claimed?
“I have arrangements for that, but you shouldn’t underestimate the Ninja Academy students,” Muzuki did not answer Raido Namiashi’s question immediately, but instead called out Shisui.
“His name is Uchiha Shisui, and he is a student from the class I teach, currently in First Grade. You can fight him to test the level of a Ninja Academy student,” Muzuki said with a smile.
Muzuki had long anticipated that such a thing would happen.
The Genin, having seen more Ninja outside and been guided by Jonin, would have a different mindset when facing Ninja Academy students and Chunin teachers.
The Ninja World operates on the principle of strength, so Muzuki’s solution was also very blunt: if you think Ninja Academy students are not good enough, then you can fight him and see if you can win.
Watching Shisui walk out with a composed expression, Asuma’s eyelids twitched uncontrollably. He remembered the scene of being abused two months ago.
He might never forget that scene: he, a graduated Genin, was defeated by a student who had just entered First Grade.
“Raido, I absolutely can’t stand it, he’s just a First Grade student,” Asuma quietly said to Raido Namiashi.
He was already eager to see Raido Namiashi’s disbelieving expression after being defeated; he couldn’t bear this pain alone.
“This isn’t good, he’s just a First Grade student,” Kurenai Yuhi said softly, feeling that it was not very ethical.
“Then I, as a graduated senior, will see if the Ninja Academy students’ level has declined,” Raido Namiashi walked out.
It was one thing for Muzuki to call out a Fourth Grade student, but to call out a First Grade student? Raido Namiashi immediately felt underestimated, and with Asuma’s fanning the flames, he couldn’t hold back.
The students all retreated, leaving enough space for the two to fight.
“If you can’t hold on, just surrender. Don’t blame me if you get accidentally hurt,” Raido Namiashi took out a Kunai from his Ninja tool pouch and warned.
“Thank you for the reminder, senior. I won’t overexert myself,” Shisui politely thanked him and said.
Seeing that Shisui knew how to respect his seniors and was polite, Raido Namiashi decided to let Shisui lose gracefully later, without being too miserable.
Obito had already covered his face, unable to bear the cruel scene that was about to unfold.
He knew Raido Namiashi and was aware of his strength.
Raido Namiashi might not even be able to defeat the current Obito, so how could he be a match for Shisui?
This battle was a no-suspense massacre, but the one being massacred was not the First Grade Shisui, but the already graduated Raido Namiashi.
“Go Shisui, defeat that guy who looks down on the current students!” Anko squeezed to the front to watch the battle, cheering Shisui on.
Kotetsu Hagane and Izumo Kamizuki also squeezed to the front to cheer with Anko.
“Uchiha Shisui, isn’t that the super genius from First Grade? I heard he got full marks in all his subjects.” Some Fourth Grade students had heard of Shisui’s genius reputation.
“No matter how much of a genius he is, it’s impossible for a First Grade student to defeat an official Genin, right?”
Although the students all hoped Shisui would win, most did not favor Shisui, because a First Grade student defeating an official Genin was simply too astonishing.
“Begin!” Muzuki, acting as a temporary referee, shouted after the two were ready.
“Here I come,” Raido Namiashi reminded him, then rushed towards Shisui with his Kunai.
Shisui unhurriedly took out a Kunai from his Ninja tool pouch and began a head-on collision with Raido Namiashi.
The clanging sounds of Kunai colliding constantly rang out, and no matter how fierce Raido Namiashi’s attacks were, Shisui calmly blocked them.
Raido Namiashi felt something was wrong. This strength, this speed, this reaction—is this really a First Grade student?
Raido Namiashi pulled back, quickly formed hand signs, and used the Clone Technique to create five clones, attempting to distract Shisui.
“Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!” Shisui calmly formed hand signs on the spot, also performing a Ninjutsu, spitting out a three-meter-high fireball.
“Who among us is the Ninja Academy student?” Raido Namiashi looked at the continuously approaching giant Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, then looked at his own intangible clones beside him, and his mind directly crashed.
Fortunately, the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique didn’t fly fast. After Raido Namiashi reacted, he ran at full speed and still escaped the attack range.
As Raido Namiashi was celebrating his escape from the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique’s attack range, a Kunai extended from behind him and was placed against his neck.
Feeling the cold sharpness of the Kunai, Raido Namiashi then realized that Shisui had appeared beside him without him even knowing.
“I lost. I shouldn’t have underestimated the current students of the Ninja Academy,” Raido Namiashi admitted his defeat. If Shisui were an enemy, he would already be dead.
“Senior, you’ve been too kind,” Shisui put away his Kunai and said modestly.
He was fully capable of instantly killing Raido Namiashi, but Raido Namiashi performed quite well, and his previous words were likely unintentional, so Shisui didn’t want to make him lose too much face and went easy on him.
“He still held back, this Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique isn’t as good as the one he used on me before,” Asuma thought to himself.
“Senior, do you have a grudge against him? Why are you smiling so happily?” Kotetsu Hagane noticed someone next to him smiling particularly happily. He initially thought it was a Ninja Academy student sharing his resentment, but then he saw a forehead protector, which confused him.
“No, I just remembered some happy things,” Asuma denied.
I’ll explain a point about this chapter.
Raido Namiashi is not Asuma’s teammate in the manga, but in the anime’s flashback scene of the Chunin Exams, Asuma, Kurenai Yuhi, and Raido Namiashi were taking the exam together, and Rin Nohara also called them when celebrating Kakashi’s promotion to Jonin.
Furthermore, since it’s unclear who Asuma’s teammates truly are from various sources, I’ve set it up this way based on the flashback plot.
Actually, there are quite a few confusing plots in Naruto, for example, Kakashi clearly graduated and became a Chunin much earlier, but he could still be on a team with Obito and Rin Nohara who graduated several years later, and even participate in the Chunin Exams, which is ridiculous.
I can’t guarantee that every detail is perfectly seamless; I can only say I try my best to make it consistent.
