Chapter Index

“We’re finally back,” Obito exclaimed, gazing at Konoha’s tall wooden walls.

Only when he went out on missions did he realize how comfortable it was to sleep on a soft, large bed.

Obito felt he had discovered the essence of humanity: while training in Konoha, he longed to go on missions, and while on missions, he yearned to finish them quickly and return. Perhaps this was just how people were.

“I can’t wait to start training,” Might Guy said with an excited expression.

After the chaotic battles on the battlefield, his combat abilities had grown stronger, and he had gained some insights from sparring with Dekai. Might Guy was eager to continue improving himself through training.

Kakashi, who had originally planned to take a day off to rest, couldn’t sit still when he heard Might Guy’s words.

If he rested, it would be like stopping in the middle of a run while Might Guy continued to run.

“Muzuki-sensei, will you be going to the South Border Forest later?” Kakashi asked.

If Muzuki went to the South Border Forest, he would train there; otherwise, he would train at home until midnight.

“Yes, I will. If you want to train, you can come over. I’ll provide guidance as usual,” Muzuki said with a smile, nodding.

“Of course, if you want to rest, you can take a day off. Normal training will resume tomorrow.”

Normally, after such a major incident, they should have had two more days off, but while Kakashi and the others were at the camp, Muzuki had considered the location and reduced their training load, which, by approximation, counted as a few days of rest.

“Then I’ll trouble you, Muzuki-sensei,” Kakashi said, confirming that Muzuki would go to the South Border Forest, and prepared to head there to train.

Seeing the two immediately jump into intense training upon their return, Obito, who only wanted to develop his photos and tell Rin Nohara about the mission, felt out of place.

In the end, just as Obito expected, Might Guy and Kakashi went straight to the South Border Forest.

Obito could only sigh, create a Shadow Clone to send to the Leaf Village Main District to develop the photos, while his main body also went to the South Border Forest to train.

They had returned together, and if he didn’t go train, wouldn’t that make him seem the laziest?

After parting ways with his disciples, Muzuki went directly to the Hokage Building, specifically to the Hokage Office, to report the mission to Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Although Jiraiya should have already sent back all the intelligence, he still needed to report, as it was his responsibility.

    Thump, thump!

Muzuki knocked on the wooden door of the Hokage Office.

“Come in,” Hiruzen Sarutobi’s voice came from inside the office.

After receiving Hiruzen Sarutobi’s approval, Muzuki opened the door and entered the Hokage Office.

Looking up and seeing Muzuki, Hiruzen Sarutobi smiled. He took down his pipe, exhaled a puff of white smoke, and said:

“Muzuki, are you here to report on the mission?”

“Yes, Sandaime-sama, we encountered an unexpected situation during this mission. As soon as we arrived at the camp, we were met with a large-scale attack by the Iwagakure Ninja Force, and then…” Muzuki began to explain the specifics of the mission.

“Muzuki, I don’t even know what to say about your squad. Every time I assign you a C-Rank Mission, something unexpected happens, always giving me a surprise,” Hiruzen Sarutobi complained in a joking tone.

Four consecutive C-Rank Missions encountering unexpected situations, with the fourth one directly coinciding with the outbreak of a major battle—there was no one else like them.

Hiruzen Sarutobi felt that if it weren’t for Muzuki’s exceptional strength, any ordinary Jonin leading the team would likely have suffered heavy casualties.

“Perhaps my luck isn’t good,” Muzuki self-deprecatingly remarked.

He hadn’t expected such a thing to happen on the fourth mission. After all, he had been prepared to diligently complete a C-Rank Mission, but instead, he got a big one.

“Perhaps Konoha’s luck is good, allowing you to just happen to catch this wave of battle,” Hiruzen Sarutobi said with a chuckle.

“You defeated Kari of the Iwagakure Explosion Release unit and even used Water Release to block the Four-Tails Jinchuriki’s attack during the battle with the Jinchuriki. No wonder Danzo looked displeased when I took you; it turns out I took his elite.”

When Jiraiya’s intelligence came back, Hiruzen Sarutobi was very surprised. He knew Muzuki was stronger than an ordinary Jonin because Muzuki had killed Jonin twice during missions, but Hiruzen Sarutobi hadn’t expected Muzuki to be so much stronger than an ordinary Jonin.

During these days of war with Iwagakure, Kari, the Explosion Release Ninja, had truly made a name for himself, repeatedly defeating Konoha’s small squads during skirmishes. Ordinary Jonin were no match for him, and as the war intensified, Kari’s performance remained outstanding, relying on his proficient taijutsu, Explosion Release, and Hardening Jutsu to achieve success.

Although Minato and Jiraiya could deal with him, they needed to confront the more formidable Jinchuriki. Hiruzen Sarutobi had originally intended to dispatch an elite squad to resolve this issue, but Muzuki encountered him on the battlefield and left him in an uncertain state between life and death.

Although it was only a written description, Hiruzen Sarutobi could see Muzuki’s excellent performance in this war, and Jiraiya’s personal letter to him also proved this point.

Hiruzen Sarutobi rarely saw Jiraiya value someone so highly, even sending him a special letter to highlight Muzuki’s strength and potential.

“My current strength is largely thanks to Danzo-sama,” Muzuki acknowledged, appearing as an elite of Root.

He didn’t like Danzo, but Danzo was quite useful as a shield.

“Defeating Kari, killing many Iwagakure Ninja, and rescuing many comrades from the Village—your impact on the battlefield is enough to upgrade this mission to an S-rank Mission,” Hiruzen Sarutobi enumerated Muzuki’s contributions from this mission.

This time, the situation was a bit different from before. Previously, it was just encountering enemy Ninja during wartime while on a mission, then fighting and killing them. This time, he directly played a significant role on the battlefield, so it was directly upgraded to the highest-level mission.

“Additionally, the battle where you and Jiraiya’s squad repelled the Jinchuriki will be counted as a separate S-rank Mission,” Hiruzen Sarutobi continued.

This was at Jiraiya’s request, as he felt that Muzuki’s great contribution deserved more than just one S-rank Mission. Muzuki’s performance in the Jinchuriki battle was entirely worth an S-rank Mission.

Hiruzen Sarutobi also found no issue after reviewing the report, though this S-rank Mission was counted only for Muzuki personally, not the entire squad; only the C-Rank upgraded to S-rank was for the whole squad.

“For the supply transport mission, the original reward was 100,000 ryo. The Village will give an additional reward of 1,150,000 ryo, totaling 1,250,000 ryo. The reward for the S-rank Mission of repelling the Jinchuriki is 1,200,000 ryo,” Hiruzen Sarutobi stated Muzuki’s mission rewards.

“Thank you, Sandaime-sama,” Muzuki said with a smile, expressing his gratitude. The commission for S-rank Missions was always over 1,000,000 ryo.

However, this was the pre-tax amount. Konoha also had a progressive tax system where the more you earned, the higher the tax. If it were a squad, the final amount each member received wouldn’t be too exaggerated.

“Besides the commission, you can choose any ten Ninjutsu from the Ninjutsu Pavilion,” Hiruzen Sarutobi continued.

The Ninjutsu Pavilion was where Konoha stored D-rank to A-rank Ninjutsu, containing most of Konoha’s Ninjutsu, though A-rank Ninjutsu were relatively few, with most being B-rank and C-rank.

This was a reward Hiruzen Sarutobi specifically granted, considering Jiraiya’s mention of Muzuki’s strong Ninjutsu foundation.

If Muzuki could truly convert these rewards into combat power quickly, then there would be more cultivation opportunities in the future.

“Furthermore, I will personally teach you two additional Ninjutsu: Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique and Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique.” After saying this, Hiruzen Sarutobi smiled, stroking his small beard, looking as if to say, ‘I have high hopes for you.’

Muzuki’s expression was very complex, seemingly surprised that Hiruzen Sarutobi gave so many rewards at once, followed by deep gratitude.

“Sandaime-sama, I will never forget your great kindness,” Muzuki said with a moved expression.

Although most of it was acting, it had to be said that Hiruzen Sarutobi was indeed generous this time: ten Ninjutsu of choice, plus two additional A-rank Ninjutsu personally taught by him, one of which he developed himself.

Muzuki felt that if it were a native-born Konoha Ninja, they would probably be feeling the sentiment of ‘a scholar dies for his confidant’ right now.

“As Hokage, watching you, the younger generation, grow is the greatest reward for me,” Hiruzen Sarutobi said with a benevolent smile.

Hearing these somewhat familiar words, for a moment, he even wondered if Hiruzen Sarutobi had a Konoha prosperity system, where the more strong individuals in the Village, the more rewards he received.

However, he immediately dismissed this idea. If that were the case, Hiruzen Sarutobi would have dealt with Danzo long ago and would have won over and appeased the Uchiha.

Danzo, this guy, claimed to be for Konoha, but he only caused internal strife without enhancing overall strength, truly a cancerous tumor.

Various thoughts flashed through his mind, but Muzuki didn’t dwell on them further, continuing to flatter Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Whether Konoha was strong or not didn’t concern him. Muzuki had never cared about Konoha, but rather his disciples, the students he had taught, and the friends who had helped him.

As a transmigrator who considered his own values to be relatively upright, he truly didn’t have much affection for Konoha, this military base, and his impression of this world was even worse.

Despite the development of productivity, feudal nobles and landlords were still lording over the populace, which was simply absurd.

He couldn’t change too much by himself now, but he believed that once he became strong, and once his disciples learned more knowledge and also became strong, they should be able to make this terrible world a little better.

“Unless there are unexpected circumstances, I’m usually home after 7 PM. If you want to ask questions, you can come find me between 7 PM and 8 PM,” Hiruzen Sarutobi said after handing Muzuki the Ninjutsu scrolls.

When he said he would personally teach them, it naturally meant he wouldn’t just provide the training methods; he would teach them himself.

“As for the Ninjutsu Pavilion, I’ll handle the procedures for you. You can just take the voucher and choose your Ninjutsu then.”

“I will train diligently and will not let down your expectations,” Muzuki said earnestly.

He had already used Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique once, but he would have to practice Great Waterfall Technique himself.
