Chapter 299 The Second Exam
by SunflowerWhen it was almost 12:50, Obito eagerly took Rin Nohara and Kakashi to the notice board to wait for the results to be posted.
“So many people!” Obito looked at the crowded notice board, a little stunned. He thought it would be better if he came early, but he didn’t expect so many people to be more anxious than him to see the results.
“We can just wait here. After all, this is an exam about promotion, so everyone is very enthusiastic,” Rin Nohara said with a smile.
Obito nodded and stood with Rin Nohara, not forcing his way in.
“Excuse me.” A few minutes later, two Ninja wearing Chunin vests walked over.
The semicircle of people surrounding the notice board immediately made way, allowing the proctors to post the results.
“Phew, that was close. Exactly seventy-one points. If I had made one more mistake, I would have been eliminated,” someone said with relief.
“You idiot, I passed you the answers, and you only got sixty-seven. It’s over now. You didn’t even pass the first stage on your first try,” someone else complained to their companion with a speechless expression after seeing the results.
Everyone at the notice board was frantically searching for their names and scores.
Kakashi, standing nearby, calmly watched the pushing crowd. This was within his expectations. Generally, the more anxious people were to see their results, the less likely their scores would be good. If they were like him, with absolute certainty of passing, they wouldn’t be anxious to know their scores.
“Let me in.” Obito heard that people were already discussing the results, so he directly forced his way in.
He wasn’t worried about failing; he just wanted to know his score so he could rub it in Kakashi’s face.
Obito immediately entered Total Concentration Breathing state and then used his physical advantage to squeeze his way in.
Obito looked towards the top, and his first glance caught Kakashi’s three-digit score at the very front.
Obito ignored Kakashi’s score and began to search downwards for his own.
“Rin, you’re amazing! Eighty-eight points, eighteen points above the passing line!” Obito first saw Rin Nohara’s score.
“So, did you pass?” Kakashi asked.
He wasn’t worried about Rin Nohara’s score; the only weak point in their team for the theoretical exam was Obito.
“Kakashi, come look!” Obito found his score, his eyes wide. He didn’t answer Kakashi’s question directly but instead called Kakashi over.
By this time, many of the people who had initially crowded around had finished looking at the results, so there were far fewer people. Kakashi easily walked over to Obito’s side.
“Eighty points! Kakashi, say something!” Obito said, pointing at his name with an excited expression.
Following the direction of Obito’s finger, Kakashi saw Obito’s score, which was indeed eighty points.
Kakashi was a little surprised. Although eighty points wasn’t a particularly good score, Obito getting eighty points was rarer than someone who usually just barely passed getting a perfect score.
Obito’s smile was incredibly smug; this was an unprecedentedly high score for him.
“What do you want me to say? Can’t you get eighty points by just doing two fewer problems?” Kakashi replied indifferently.
Obito was momentarily speechless. Kakashi, with a perfect score, had obviously done all ten problems perfectly. If he wanted eighty points, he indeed only needed to do two fewer problems.
“Obito is really amazing! Last time in Ninja Academy, he didn’t even get fifty, but this time he actually got eighty points. He must have studied very hard,” Rin Nohara praised softly.
“Hehe, it’s alright. It wasn’t as serious as you imagine,” Obito smiled again upon hearing Rin Nohara’s exaggeration.
Just then, Might Guy and Asuma also came to check the results.
“Excellent, everyone passed!” Might Guy gave a thumbs up to Shiranui Genma and Ebisu.
“The same for us,” Asuma said after checking the results.
“Let’s all work hard to become Chunin!” Obito exclaimed, pumping his fist. They were all friends, and this was their first Chunin Exams.
“How interesting. Is Konoha’s Chunin Exams just child’s play? ‘Let’s all work hard together,’ indeed,” Zabuza sneered as he passed by.
“Who knows? Maybe so,” Zabuza’s teammate next to him shrugged and replied.
“Hey, what do you mean by that?” Asuma asked, displeased by their conversation.
Their words simultaneously negated both themselves and Konoha, and Asuma couldn’t tolerate it.
“Exactly what it sounds like,” Zabuza replied with an indifferent expression.
He was very annoyed by these Konoha Ninja. Why did they, from Hidden Mist, have to kill their classmates starting from Ninja Academy, while the Konoha Ninja were so harmonious?
“You’d best take back what you said,” Obito stood beside Asuma and said to Zabuza.
Facing such an arrogant Ninja from another village, even Obito, who was invited to participate in the Chunin Exams, would not be polite to him.
“Zabuza, Kurosawa, don’t cause trouble,” Kisame Hoshigaki said calmly upon seeing the situation.
If they were outside Konoha Village, he wouldn’t mind having a match with these Konoha Ninja, but inside Konoha Village, it was out of the question. They were participating in the Chunin Exams with a mission.
After speaking, Kisame Hoshigaki led the way, heading to the explanation point for the second stage of the exam.
Zabuza glanced at Kisame Hoshigaki and followed him.
He and Kisame Hoshigaki were not originally on the same team; they had only formed a temporary team for this Chunin Exams.
Kisame Hoshigaki was the assigned captain, but Zabuza listened to Kisame Hoshigaki not because he was the captain, but because Kisame Hoshigaki was very strong. Although he was only two years older, he felt like one of those Mist Village Jonin.
“What a rude bunch. If I fight them in the later exams, I’ll definitely teach them a harsh lesson,” Obito said, waving his fist.
Obito, who had already defeated many Chunin in direct combat, believed he had the strength to dominate this exam.
“Don’t underestimate them. I can’t speak for the others, but that shark-faced guy won’t be weak,” Kakashi reminded him.
Although he couldn’t use sensing Ninjutsu, the experienced Kakashi keenly perceived Kisame Hoshigaki’s unusualness; his aura was different from ordinary Ninja.
“I admit I was a little worse than you in the theoretical exam, but as long as it’s practical combat from now on, I definitely won’t have a problem,” Obito said confidently.
“Haha, this confidence, not inferior to mine! As expected of you, Obito!” Might Guy showed his shining white teeth and gave Obito a thumbs up.
“You guy…” Kakashi shook his head, feeling that Obito might suffer due to his arrogance.
With Obito’s strength, fighting against normal Genin would certainly be no problem, but this was a Chunin Exams jointly held by two great Ninja Villages. Genin might not necessarily be ordinary Genin.
Kakashi felt that he might not be the only exception, and perhaps Hidden Mist also had young Chunin participating in this Chunin Exams.
If the opponents were those people, Kakashi didn’t think Obito could win easily.
The group arrived together at a large open space next to the Ninja Academy teaching building.
After waiting for about half an hour there, and once all the qualified students had gathered, Muzuki walked in front of the students with two Chunin.
“I am Hayate Mugetsu, the chief examiner for the second stage of the exam,” Muzuki began with a concise self-introduction.
“Muzuki Sensei!” Obito immediately waved at Muzuki with a happy expression upon seeing him.
“Damn it, it’s that guy who ate one of my strawberry ice creams!” Mei Terumī puffed out her cheeks and glared at Muzuki, secretly etching the name Hayate Mugetsu firmly into her mind.
Mei Terumī then glanced at Obito, memorizing his appearance, preparing to teach him a lesson if she encountered him during the exam.
“Although it’s not good to bully an idiot, it’s your sensei’s fault for eating my ice cream,” Mei Terumī felt more and more heartache the more she thought about it. How happy would she have been if she could have eaten two strawberry ice creams that day?
Muzuki smiled back at Obito and then continued, “Before I begin announcing the rules, you must first sign a consent form.”
The two Chunin began distributing the consent forms after Muzuki finished speaking, with every examinee receiving one.
“Because in this exam, you may be injured, or even die.”
In essence, it was a death waiver. Once signed, all examinees in this exam could use any means to attack their opponents, and killing an opponent would incur no responsibility.
“You can choose not to sign, but if one person doesn’t sign, the entire team is considered to have forfeited,” Muzuki said, then paused, waiting for the examinees to sign the consent forms.
“We actually have to sign a real consent form. It feels so dangerous.”
“Yeah, I was asking my seniors for advice a few days ago, and they didn’t mention this. Is this exam special?”
Some Genin who were participating in the Chunin Exams for the first time began to discuss.
“Then it’s exactly like real combat,” Obito said, scratching his head after listening. He didn’t feel much about it, thinking it just removed the restrictions on exam battles.
“Asuma, should we sign?” Raido Namiashi looked at Asuma and asked.
“Of course, we should sign. If you’re afraid of getting hurt, you wouldn’t become a Ninja,” Asuma signed the consent form without a moment’s hesitation.
Immediately after, Kurenai Yuhi also signed decisively.
Within a few minutes, all students had signed the consent forms, with no one giving up.
They were Ninja who came from the Ninja Academy, and even the most gentle Ninja Academy was a place that taught killing. In matters of life and death, they were exceptionally courageous.
Then, without further ado, Muzuki first took out a map of Death Forest and said:
“This is the venue for your second stage of the exam, a circular area enclosed by an iron net. The straight-line distance from the iron net to Central Tower is about ten kilometers, and there are many poisonous insects and fierce beasts inside.”
After introducing the venue, Muzuki took out two scrolls, one white and one dark.
“Each of your teams will receive an initial scroll, which may be a heaven scroll or an earth scroll, but no matter which scroll you receive, you must collect both types of scrolls and then reach Central Tower to complete the exam.”
“You have a total of five days. If you cannot collect both the heaven and earth scrolls and reach Central Tower within five days, you will be eliminated.”
Due to special reasons, I’m still outside, so the update is late, I apologize.
There will be another chapter later, it will be quite late. I originally wanted to adjust my schedule, but plans just don’t keep up with changes.
