Chapter 30: Attempt to Practice the Mission (Seeking Follow-up Reading)
by SunflowerMuzuki first had Obito try tree climbing.
In the Konoha Eastern Forest, there’s no shortage of trees; trees over ten meters tall are everywhere, and even taller ones are abundant.
Muzuki casually pointed to a twenty-meter-tall tree and told Obito to try concentrating Chakra at his feet to climb it.
Obito nodded, then took a deep breath, concentrated Chakra at his feet, and shot upwards.
Obito climbed to about ten meters in one go, then accidentally lost control of his Chakra on the next step, leaving a footprint on the tree and falling down.
Muzuki jumped up and caught Obito, nodding to himself. Although not reaching Asuma’s level, it was still passable; at least he didn’t fall after a few steps.
There’s nothing special to say about this training; it’s simply a matter of consistent practice, with no particular techniques.
After demonstrating a few times to Obito, Muzuki left a Shadow Clone to watch, letting Obito practice on his own, while his main body went to find Might Guy, who was currently training his physique.
Among Muzuki’s three disciples, Might Guy’s training regimen was arguably the most monotonous and boring.
When Obito got tired of Taijutsu, he could cast a few Ninjutsu to change his mood, but Might Guy’s training consisted only of practicing Leaf Whirlwind and physical conditioning.
Physical conditioning is not an overnight matter; it’s an area where Muzuki’s teaching skills are powerless.
His teaching skills could help Might Guy learn Taijutsu faster and refine it in less time, but they couldn’t accelerate the effects of Might Guy’s physical training.
The training effect gained from one push-up remained the effect of one push-up.
When Muzuki walked up to Might Guy, Might Guy was doing push-ups with a stone block almost as large as him strapped to his back.
“Guy, how’s your Leaf Whirlwind coming along?” Muzuki asked.
He wanted to test the trigger conditions for cultivation missions, and Might Guy, who had the same trust level three as Obito, was the best choice.
Hearing Muzuki’s words, Might Guy stopped his movements, maintaining his body still as he replied, “It’s a bit faster than during the exam, but still not fast enough.”
After answering, Might Guy removed the stone block, stood up, and unleashed an incredibly swift Leaf Whirlwind towards a nearby wooden stake.
Muzuki nodded. Compared to before, it had indeed improved a bit; his kicks were sharper and more decisive.
He probably gained something from his battle with Hyuga Homura.
Physical training can’t show results that quickly; physical improvement takes at least months.
“How do you think one can improve their strength?” Muzuki asked a question that made Might Guy feel puzzled.
“By cultivating, of course,” Might Guy immediately stated his thoughts.
He found Muzuki’s question a bit strange; to become stronger, it certainly required consistent cultivation.
Muzuki shook his head and asked again, “Cultivation can lead to improvement and is the most important part of increasing strength, but are there any other methods?”
Might Guy scratched his head, then thought of his improved Leaf Whirlwind, and the practical combat exams held at the Ninja Academy, and a light bulb instantly went off in his mind: “Combat!”
“Exactly, combat is also a crucial part of improving strength. In combat, one can better transform their practice results into their own power,” Muzuki smiled.
“The combat I’m talking about isn’t like your previous fights with Obito; those weren’t normal battles.”
“To improve, you must challenge strong opponents and engage in a proper fight with the strong opponents you wish to challenge.”
Listening to Muzuki’s words, a person gradually appeared in Might Guy’s mind.
That person had white hair, always wore a mask, and was a famous super genius of Konoha.
There was no other name; it was Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy’s lifelong rival!
Having improved his strength after studying with Muzuki, Might Guy had long harbored the idea of challenging Kakashi, but he had always suppressed it.
He wanted to wait until he had completely mastered the Leaf Whirlwind Taijutsu before challenging Kakashi.
But now Might Guy changed his mind. Would he definitely defeat Kakashi once he completely mastered Leaf Whirlwind? Not necessarily.
Would he be afraid of one failure? No.
Then why not go fight Kakashi? It could also improve his strength more effectively.
“Muzuki-sensei, I understand,” Might Guy said solemnly.
Looking at Might Guy’s face, Muzuki roughly knew that his guidance had worked. Given Might Guy’s drive, he might even go find Kakashi tonight.
However, to Muzuki’s regret, no cultivation mission named ‘Defeat Kakashi’ appeared.
“What other conditions are there?” Muzuki wondered.
According to the original Hokage story, Might Guy at this point definitely had a great ‘desire’ to defeat Kakashi.
The title of super genius, the identity of a rival—Might Guy had too many reasons to want to defeat Kakashi.
Recalling the details of how Obito triggered the cultivation mission, Muzuki discovered a problem.
Obito’s attitude was one of pleading, and his words expressed that he absolutely needed Muzuki’s help; he could only succeed if Muzuki taught him the powerful Fire Release.
“Does achieving the result need to include a necessary demand for the teacher?” Muzuki speculated.
If so, then it made sense that Might Guy didn’t trigger a cultivation mission just now.
Just now, Might Guy was at most ignited with the passion to challenge Kakashi; he probably wasn’t thinking about what would happen without Muzuki.
With a rough guess, Muzuki did not probe further. He would wait until Might Guy failed his challenge against Kakashi before acting.
At that time, he would let his defeated disciple feel the warmth of his teacher.
After finishing the teaching, Muzuki went to his house in the Main urban area.
After dinner, Muzuki first went to the park where he had previously met Minato and Kushina.
Luckily, Muzuki met Kushina and Minato there again.
Perhaps people from the nearby area preferred to come here; neither of them was surprised to see Muzuki.
“Oh, right, you left too quickly last time, and I forgot to ask something,” Kushina suddenly remembered something and asked.
“Did the Third Hokage ask you to be a tutor, and did you agree?”
Muzuki nodded.
“I heard that child seems a bit rebellious; he doesn’t even listen to the Third Hokage, so will he listen to you?” Kushina asked curiously.
Muzuki smiled and told them how he trained Asuma.
Kushina didn’t know how Asuma, who was being taught, felt, but she certainly found it amusing.
Especially when Asuma tried to slack off and resist the next day but was tricked into training until he was exhausted, which made Kushina exclaim that the clever Third Hokage could actually have such a foolish son.
Minato was also surprised by Muzuki’s teaching approach, that he could make even students who didn’t want to learn cooperate and complete their training.
Muzuki didn’t just talk about himself; he also asked Minato and Kushina some things, and the conversation atmosphere was very harmonious.
Muzuki felt that after spending some time together like this and becoming friends, he could inadvertently show his interest in Sealing Technique and Cursed Seals.
Transition chapters are really hard to write. This chapter was cut and revised by a thousand words, which is why it’s being posted so late.
