Chapter 171 Overseas Mission
by Sunflower“When can we do an S-rank Mission?” On the way to the Hokage Building, Obito sighed, remembering Kakashi’s piercing words from yesterday.
A C-Rank Mission didn’t even involve encountering Ninja, clearly not the kind of mission he wanted to do.
“You can tonight,” Kakashi replied.
“Why?” Obito asked, puzzled.
“Dream it when you’re dreaming,” Kakashi said calmly.
“Even Chunin rarely participate in S-rank Missions. You want to complete an S-rank Mission before graduating?”
“Damn Kakashi, just because you can’t, don’t think I’m like you. Once I become a Chunin, I’ll definitely have a chance to do S-rank Missions.” Obito’s fighting spirit immediately surged.
Since they were granted the privilege of accepting C-Rank Missions due to their efficiency in completing D-Rank missions, if they maintained super high efficiency with C-Rank Missions, wouldn’t they soon be able to do higher-level missions?
“Muzuki sensei, we must take on a challenging mission later to show them our strength,” Obito said, full of fighting spirit.
“Preferably one with combat,” Might Guy said, his hands itching after two days of manual labor.
Kakashi had no demands regarding this; he had already done many C-Rank Missions.
Muzuki smiled and nodded in agreement; what Obito and Might Guy wanted was exactly what he hoped for.
“These are some of the current C-Rank Missions.” The Registration Ninja spread out several scrolls for Muzuki to view.
“Subjugating bandits hidden in Eagle Beak Mountain, eliminating unknown ferocious beasts harassing Gamō Town, escorting the client back to the Land of Rice Fields’ capital…”
Muzuki scanned them. Those explicitly stating combat were basically about subjugating bandits or driving away/eliminating ferocious beasts. Muzuki skipped these directly.
He wanted combat, that was true, but fighting ordinary people or beasts would not help him at all.
“Let’s take this one, escorting the client back to the Land of Rice Fields,” Muzuki said after some thought.
“Are you sure you want to choose this mission? The Ninja World situation is a bit chaotic right now. Although the Land of Rice Fields doesn’t have a Ninja Village, there’s a certain degree of risk in going abroad now,” the Registration Ninja reminded them.
He actually felt that Muzuki might as well take on missions to subjugate bandits or drive away ferocious beasts, as many of those missions were within the Land of Fire, making them safer.
“We’re not afraid of risk; we’re only afraid of no risk,” Obito said, his eyes lighting up when he heard the Registration Ninja’s words.
“Thank you for the reminder. This is the one. I believe their strength can handle any potential crises,” Muzuki said with a smile.
He chose this mission precisely because it involved going abroad; he wouldn’t have wanted to pick it if there was no risk.
The Registration Ninja did not try to persuade them further, registered them, and told them the client’s current location.
“What kind of risks will we encounter? An ambush by enemy Ninja?” Obito said excitedly after walking out of the Hokage Building.
“You should read fewer novels. You won’t encounter the crises you imagine on a C-Rank Mission,” Kakashi said, speechless.
Ninja ambushes? If you encounter a Ninja on a C-Rank Mission, you can report it back to the Village.
Then Muzuki and the others went to the inn where the client was staying and found the client who had posted the mission.
“Are you the Ninja who accepted the mission? You’re truly young and promising,” the somewhat portly middle-aged man said, praising them with a chuckle after seeing Obito, Kakashi, and the others.
“I am Numata Yoshie, the client for this mission. These two are my wife and daughter,” Numata Yoshie introduced simply.
“I am Hayate Mugetsu, the leader of this mission,” Muzuki nodded and briefly introduced himself.
“Uncle, you have great taste! I’m the first in the Ninja Academy!” Obito said with a beaming smile.
“First? Then are you very amazing, big brother?” Numata Yoshie’s daughter blinked her big eyes and asked.
“Of course!” Obito showed a proud expression.
“How come I don’t remember you being first when I was in school?” Kakashi suddenly said.
“Huh? Was he just bragging?” The little loli showed a puzzled expression.
“That’s because you graduated early,” Obito explained vigorously.
Then he went on to say things like how winning first place twice still counted as first, and how the last academic year had more weight, and so on.
Although the little loli didn’t understand what Obito was explaining, watching Obito explain with a red face and gesticulating wildly, she found it very amusing and giggled, making the atmosphere a few degrees livelier.
After simple introductions, it was time for business. After learning that Numata Yoshie was ready to depart, Muzuki suggested leaving immediately.
Perhaps considering he was bringing his wife and daughter, Numata Yoshie prepared a carriage.
Numata Yoshie and his family rode in the carriage, while Muzuki and his disciples ran alongside it.
Compared to a Ninja’s speed, the carriage was not fast. Not to mention Muzuki, even Obito and the others were at ease, able to chat while running.
When they rested in the evening, everyone gathered and chatted for a while. Only then did Muzuki learn why Numata Yoshie acted so smoothly.
Numata Yoshie was a merchant, but although he did business in the Land of Fire, he was actually from the Land of Rice Fields, and his entire family was from the Land of Rice Fields.
Due to the war, Numata Yoshie was worried about dangers on the way home, so he posted a C-Rank Mission in Konoha.
“I wonder when the Ninja World will finally be at peace. With the four great nations declaring war on each other, business will be difficult from now on,” Numata Yoshie sighed.
Frequent wars made it very difficult for someone like him, who sought stable business. It hadn’t even been ten years since the last major war, yet such a large-scale war among great nations had erupted so quickly again.
“Uncle, you can rest assured that you’ll be fine staying in our Land of Fire. With us Konoha Ninja here, other countries can’t get in,” Obito said, patting his chest.
“The strength of Konoha Ninja is indeed trustworthy,” Numata Yoshie nodded; this was a recognized fact in the Ninja World.
The subsequent escort mission went smoothly. Until they left the country, Muzuki and the others did not encounter any attacks. Let alone Ninja, they didn’t even see a single bandit blocking the road.
This greatly disappointed Obito. What about the promised “certain risk”? Escorting, traveling, resting, training—it was no different from normal, except for being able to tease the little loli.
“This is what a C-Rank Mission is like. Your imagination is too rich,” Kakashi said.
He had done many C-Rank Missions and had never encountered a Ninja on one.
However, after leaving the Land of Fire, it became much livelier. Occasionally, some short-sighted foolish thieves would try to rob them, but they were no match at all. Might Guy would kick them, and they all fell down.
On the first night after leaving the country, Muzuki was conceptualizing his Combination Ninjutsu when suddenly, there was a rustling sound from a large tree not far from where Muzuki and the others were resting, the leaves rustling loudly.
“Are they so blatant about luring us over?” Muzuki adjusted his glasses, very calm. Byakugan was indeed a very convenient ability.
This chapter is a make-up for yesterday. The out-of-village plot kept getting revised, so it was written slowly.
