Chapter 222: Obito’s Training Mission Completion
by Sunflower“I really lost.” Kakashi felt a momentary daze when Obito’s Kunai was pressed against his throat and Muzuki declared Obito’s victory.
Just half a year ago, when Obito came to him for help practicing movement techniques, Kakashi could instantly defeat Obito with a single kick using Body Flicker Technique.
Half a year is long, totaling 181 days, but half a year is also short, so short that Kakashi still felt like he had easily defeated Obito several times not long ago.
Kakashi, who had never lost to a peer, lost three times in just over a month.
He lost to Might Guy, who viewed him as a rival and always worked hard, he then lost to Uchiha Shisui, who was even more of a genius than him, and today he lost to Uchiha Obito, who had lost to him countless times before.
In these three battles, Kakashi was convinced by his losses, because in none of them did his opponents win by luck; they all defeated him with genuine strength.
But being convinced doesn’t mean he lost his desire for victory. In fact, he was extremely unwilling to accept his defeat. Might Guy and Obito were clearly so much weaker than him at the beginning, and Shisui was even two years younger than him.
“Don’t get too cocky. You only won against me once, but I’ve won against you countless times. I’ll win it back very soon,” Kakashi said calmly as he brushed the dust off his clothes, looking at Obito’s arrogant and unrestrained smile.
He admitted his failure, but he wouldn’t allow himself to keep failing. He knew the reason for his failure: he had been too lax these past two years, constantly entangled in the so-called rules of missions and Ninja, and hadn’t cultivated properly.
Now it’s different. Kakashi is only going to be himself. He doesn’t seek everyone’s approval; he just needs to uphold his beliefs.
“Stop bragging. You have no chance against me, someone who possesses the Sharingan,” Obito said, completely unfazed by Kakashi’s harsh words, continuing to smile smugly.
Although he had only won once, he felt that this victory was more significant than all of Kakashi’s previous wins combined.
“Then you just wait and see,” Kakashi’s mouth curved slightly under his mask.
This time it was different; he was going to let Obito and Might Guy witness the growth rate of a genius.
With his extraordinary talent and Muzuki’s guidance, Kakashi believed his strength would improve very quickly.
Muzuki smiled as he watched the two boys, full of fighting spirit. It’s good to have fighting spirit and goals; strength improves quickly.
【Disciple Uchiha Obito’s cultivation mission completed. Rewards: Chakra +2500, Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique (Mastery Level), Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Claw Crimson (Proficient Level)】
Another 2,500 Chakra reward. Now, Muzuki is only over 4,000 Chakra away from his small goal of 50,000.
Although it was Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, Muzuki was never too picky about mastery-level Ninjutsu.
【Disciple Uchiha Obito has received an optional life mission】
【Life Mission: It’s not those who become Hokage who are recognized by everyone, but those who are recognized by everyone who can become Hokage.】
【Main Goal: Become the Hokage of Konoha Ninja Village】
【Mission Progress: 0】
【Mission Rewards: Determined by mission completion and strength growth during the mission period. Settlement will occur for every 10% progress increase.】
【Note 1: Automatic failure if Uchiha Obito betrays the village, or if Konoha is destroyed.】
【Note 2: Life missions are extremely difficult. Once confirmed, you can only proceed to the next life mission after completion. Please choose carefully.】
【Note 3: Higher difficulty yields higher rewards.】
Muzuki pondered Obito’s life mission. This mission wasn’t extremely difficult, but it wasn’t simple either.
If Minato became the Fourth Hokage and didn’t die unexpectedly, and if the anti-Uchiha forces led by Danzo disappeared, Obito still had hope of becoming Hokage.
Muzuki thought about it and decided to accept the mission. Although he felt Obito might trigger some mission to end the war and bring peace to the Ninja World later, this mission could be linked with Shisui’s mission.
If Obito became Hokage, the conflict between the Uchiha Clan and Konoha would be easier to resolve.
Moreover, Muzuki felt that the progress of this mission would increase relatively quickly.
If the Hokage position was the ultimate goal, then Obito’s promotion in rank and gaining public support on the battlefield should all increase mission progress, as these are indispensable steps to becoming Hokage.
Besides Obito, who triggered a life mission, Kakashi also successfully triggered a cultivation mission.
【Disciple Kakashi Hatake’s cultivation mission set】
【Cultivation Mission: Defeat Uchiha Obito, Uchiha Shisui, and Might Guy in combat to become the strongest among Muzuki’s disciples.】
【Rewards: Determined by mission completion and strength growth during the mission period.】
This was the first time Muzuki had seen a mission that required defeating three people, but he thought about it and realized this mission was essentially about Kakashi winning first place in Muzuki’s team internal competition.
Muzuki could only say that this mission was a bit difficult. Although the gap between them wasn’t large now, even if Kakashi trained hard, Obito and Might Guy wouldn’t just inexplicably slack off.
Unless Kakashi suddenly had some special breakthrough in Breathing Technique, it would be difficult for him to overtake them in a short period.
“Rin, wasn’t I amazing just now?” Obito couldn’t help but run up to Rin Nohara and ask.
“You were amazing! You even defeated Kakashi. If our classmates knew, they’d all be shocked, right?” Rin Nohara exclaimed in surprise and praise.
If it weren’t for Might Guy’s precedent, Rin Nohara would have been even more surprised.
Because Kakashi’s performance at the Ninja Academy was truly overwhelmingly powerful, leaving a very deep impression on Rin Nohara.
“It’s nothing worth spreading, after all, I’ve already activated my Sharingan now, so defeating Kakashi is only natural,” Obito became even more smug upon hearing Rin Nohara’s praise, feeling completely elated.
“The power of the Sharingan, Obito. When I can normally open the Second Gate, I also want to experience the power of the Sharingan,” Might Guy said with a look of enthusiasm.
“Uh…” Obito’s previously elated mood settled down. If his opponent was Might Guy, he felt it wouldn’t be easy to win.
While Kakashi’s burst speed was fast, it was only for an instant. Might Guy, when using Eight Gates and Rock Breathing, maintained high speed and high power throughout.
“Haha, we’ll see. I also need to get more familiar with the power of the Sharingan,” Obito neither explicitly refused nor agreed.
Refusing in front of Rin Nohara would make him seem afraid of Might Guy, but if he agreed directly, he really might lose face.
“Second Gate…” Shisui, standing nearby, felt an increasing sense of urgency as he listened, feeling that after one mission, Kakashi and the other two had all undergone a small transformation.
After resting until 1:30 PM, cultivation began again. Obito and Shisui practiced Total Concentration Breathing, Might Guy underwent rehabilitation training, and Kakashi was still striving for mastery.
“Muzuki-sensei, I’ve developed a technique by combining Thunder Breathing and my family’s sword style, but it has many flaws. Could you please take a look?” Kakashi asked Muzuki for guidance during his training.
One reason he lost to Obito this time was that Thunderclap Flash had too many flaws; if the opponent saw through his attack trajectory, it was almost impossible to be effective, and the speed, mismatched with his reaction, would prevent him from reacting to the enemy’s counterattack.
“Show me once,” Muzuki nodded and said.
“Thank you,” Kakashi thanked him, then took out his White Fang Short Blade, changed his breathing rhythm, and prepared to strike.
“Thunderclap Flash!”
Whoosh!
Lightning burst from Kakashi’s feet, a thunderous roar sounded, and Kakashi immediately shot out like a bolt of lightning parallel to the ground.
Boom!
The large tree Kakashi targeted immediately crashed down.
“Do you feel like your reaction speed isn’t quite keeping up with your movement speed?” Muzuki thought for a moment and asked.
Muzuki felt that Kakashi might have some talent in this area. He had already given Kakashi Purple Lightning, which didn’t require Sharingan, but Kakashi, in turn, created another skill he couldn’t react to.
“Yes, and I feel that this technique’s trajectory is too singular. If it’s seen through, it won’t be effective,” Kakashi nodded and said.
“The attack trajectory isn’t important. When your burst becomes stronger, if one Flash isn’t enough, you can do three or six consecutive flashes. The reaction problem is more important,” Muzuki pointed out the key issue.
“There are two fundamental solutions. One is to master the technique of using Lightning Release Chakra Nature Transformation to strengthen your nerves, which can enhance your reaction speed. The second is to master the ultimate secret of Breathing Technique, Transparent World.”
“Once your Thunder Breathing reaches the Constant State, you can learn to strengthen your nerves.”
“Constant State…” This term was not unfamiliar to Kakashi, as Obito and Shisui were already practicing in this area.
“Then how can I master Transparent World?” Kakashi thought for a moment and asked.
As far as he knew, Obito and the others had been practicing Breathing Technique for half a year and had only just begun Constant State training. He didn’t know when they would complete their training, meaning he might not reach the Constant State until a year later.
Kakashi couldn’t imagine how arrogant Obito would be during that year.
“I can’t say for sure. It depends on your individual comprehension. Some people might practice Breathing Technique their whole lives and never master it, while others might be born with it,” Muzuki said.
The reason he only explained strengthening nerves and not Transparent World was because Transparent World was too difficult.
This was an ability that required mastering a forbidden-level Breathing Technique to a perfect level of comprehension. The difficulty of improving skill proficiency varies.
For example, the difficulty of Nature Transformation is not on the same level as Ninjutsu, and advanced Ninjutsu is on a different level from basic Ninjutsu.
By the time Thunder Breathing truly reached the perfect level, Kakashi’s problem would have long been solved. Let alone Thunderclap Flash, even Ten Thunderclaps wouldn’t be an issue.
Of course, Muzuki, who was familiar with Breathing Technique, also knew that it was possible to comprehend Transparent World even without reaching the perfect level of Breathing Technique, but Muzuki felt that this was even harder than reaching the perfect level of Breathing Technique.
This was no longer a matter of personality compatibility, but only possible with extremely strong Breathing Technique talent.
“Is it that difficult? It might be impossible to master in a lifetime,” Muzuki’s answer surprised Kakashi somewhat.
“Otherwise, why would it be called the ultimate secret of Breathing Technique?” Muzuki smiled, preparing to show Kakashi the effects of Transparent World.
“Attack me.”
Kakashi didn’t hesitate and swung his blade towards Muzuki.
“You’re going to cut my left arm,” Muzuki said the instant Kakashi swung his blade, perfectly dodging Kakashi’s attack.
“Your target is the thigh.”
“You’re going to stab my heart.”
Next, Muzuki seemed to be able to predict the future, accurately stating all the various attacks Kakashi was about to make. And though his displayed speed wasn’t fast, it made it impossible for Kakashi to even touch Muzuki’s clothes.
Kakashi’s expression grew increasingly surprised; the ability Muzuki displayed was simply too exaggerated.
He wasn’t relying on physical prowess or a large amount of Chakra, but simply on extreme reaction speed to easily evade all of his attacks.
“This is just one of Transparent World’s abilities. Transparent World can also see through an enemy’s weaknesses and allow you to unleash 100% of your own power,” Muzuki explained.
Just by listening to Muzuki’s description, Kakashi could feel the power of this ability and couldn’t help but yearn for it.
If he could master such a powerful ability, Obito’s Sharingan wouldn’t amount to much.
“If one day your mind feels transparent, and you can see and control every muscle and every blood vessel in your body, then you have entered the Transparent World state,” Muzuki briefly described the feeling of activating Transparent World.
Kakashi showed a serious expression, committing Muzuki’s words to memory.
“While it can’t be completely cured in a short time, there are still ways to alleviate it to some extent. You can undergo special training to enhance your reaction capabilities,” Muzuki continued.
Reaction ability can be enhanced through training, but there is an upper limit to this. It’s unrealistic to expect training to reach the level of Minato or the Fourth Raikage; it can only enhance reaction ability to a certain extent.
“And then, in combat, if the timing isn’t right, try not to use it. Don’t use it too much in one battle, once or twice is enough,” Muzuki advised.
Obito was able to counter Kakashi’s Thunderclap Flash first because he had the Sharingan, and second because Obito had seen it once before and had some information.
“Thank you for your guidance, I understand what to do now,” Kakashi nodded and thanked him again.
“Keep up the good work. As long as you unearth your talent, you will one day be able to master Transparent World,” Muzuki encouraged him.
Saying kind words costs nothing, and Muzuki likes to encourage his disciples more. Although it’s difficult, maybe it will work out.
In order to defeat Obito as soon as possible, Kakashi was highly motivated to train. After asking his questions, he fully dedicated himself to the cultivation of Thunder Breathing.
“Muzuki-sensei, next school year, I also want to go on missions with you,” Shisui found Muzuki after training ended and said.
“I feel like I also need to train outside the village,” Shisui explained. Seeing Obito and the others go on missions and greatly increase their strength, Shisui couldn’t sit still.
“If I’m still in charge of the interns then, there’s no problem,” Muzuki agreed.
Shisui indeed needed real combat experience to grow, and if all went well, by the third semester of the next school year, his Chakra should be over 70,000, providing even greater safety.
4k, probably another 3k coming up. Considering whether to buy some melatonin to eat, this time seems a bit off. Yesterday, I went to bed at 11:30 PM and couldn’t fall asleep until past 2 AM.
