Chapter 180: Plan Explosion
by Sunflower“Are there any D-Rank missions available?”
Muzuki asked the Registration Ninja after leading his disciples into the Hokage Building’s mission hall.
D-Rank missions were still great for grinding Chakra; ten D-Rank missions could net almost four hundred and fifty points of Chakra.
“Huh, Teacher Muzuki, aren’t we doing a C-Rank Mission today?” Obito couldn’t help but ask.
One mission they were fighting for their lives against Ninja from enemy villages, and the next they would be looking for cats, catching dogs, and picking up trash. Obito felt the contrast was a bit too stark.
“Did you forget what day tomorrow is? If we take an out-of-village mission now, then Might Guy will have to celebrate his birthday outside,” Muzuki said, tapping Obito’s head.
This time, he didn’t use the same strategy as with Shisui. After all, using the same trick twice would seem a bit perfunctory. He had already told his students that Might Guy’s birthday was approaching, and they would all gather to celebrate it together.
“Oh, right, Might Guy’s birthday is coming up. I’ve been so busy lately that I forgot the time,” Obito said, scratching his head with a silly grin.
“It’s okay, if Teacher Muzuki hadn’t reminded me, I would have forgotten myself,” Might Guy said, stroking his chin.
Recently, they had indeed been very busy. Before out-of-village missions, it was either training or continuous missions. After leaving the village, they had to constantly ensure the client’s safety, and upon completing the mission, they rushed back without stopping.
Kakashi glanced at Muzuki, feeling that there might be some things he didn’t know about the relationship between Muzuki, Obito, and Might Guy.
Normally, after such a short time as disciples, the parties shouldn’t be that close.
However, Kakashi considered that Muzuki was a teacher at the Ninja Academy, and Obito and Might Guy were students, so they were likely already very familiar with each other from their time at the Ninja Academy.
“Yes, there are.” The Registration Ninja opened the mission scroll for Muzuki to choose from.
D-Rank missions were all pretty much the same, so Muzuki casually picked five and took his students to complete them.
For some reason, Obito and Kakashi seemed particularly motivated today, especially when it came to competing against each other.
Although they usually disliked each other, today their rivalry was even more intense.
This meant that the five missions Muzuki took were completed very quickly, as they were competing to see who could complete tasks faster and in greater numbers, even pulling Might Guy into their competition. The three of them completed missions with gusto.
However, when Muzuki looked at the reward information, he discovered a problem: the rewards had decreased.
The first mission’s settlement was still about the same as the previous average, forty-five points of Chakra for the three disciples combined, but by the third mission, it started to drop, with the three disciples only getting a little over thirty points in total, and the fifth mission only yielding exactly thirty points.
Although difficulty determines rewards, based on previous experience, D-Rank missions shouldn’t vary that much.
Muzuki had a guess in his mind: perhaps the system judged that D-Rank missions were becoming less and less helpful for his disciples’ growth, so the rewards decreased.
This was not a baseless guess; from the training missions and the series of reward distributions, it was clear that the system placed great importance on the growth of the disciples. When disciples’ strength increased, they received stage rewards, and for training missions, the more improvement during the mission period, the higher the reward.
Given the current strength of Obito and Might Guy, D-Rank missions could initially help them familiarize themselves with mission procedures and develop teamwork skills, but after dozens of such missions, they clearly had little meaning.
To verify his hypothesis, Muzuki took on five more D-Rank missions.
After completing them, Muzuki checked the rewards, and they were even lower. The reward for the tenth mission was only a little over twenty points of Chakra for the three combined.
Muzuki added up the rewards from all ten missions and calculated that it was roughly a little over three hundred points.
This harvest couldn’t be called bad, as a single large class only yielded forty points of Chakra, but it was certainly less than before.
“From now on, I’ll do fewer D-Rank missions and try to focus more time on other missions and training,” Muzuki thought to himself.
If he could maintain a consistent income of three hundred Chakra points, that would be good, but at this rate, a few more rounds might yield no rewards at all.
After submitting all the missions, Muzuki took his students home for dinner.
Obito also noticed a strange issue: Minato Namikaze, who bore some resemblance to Muzuki, was at Muzuki’s house again, just like last time, helping out and then taking food to go.
“Teacher Muzuki, what’s your relationship with that Jonin Minato? It feels like he comes to your house to take food every day,” Obito asked curiously.
He felt a strange, indescribable feeling. If they were just neighbors, eating together every day would be odd enough, let alone Minato taking food to go.
“Very good friends, and then a mentor-mentee relationship, I suppose. He teaches me Sealing Technique, and I teach him how to cook,” Muzuki thought for a moment before answering.
“We used to eat together, and sometimes he would cook for me, but now he’s very busy, so we rarely sit down to eat together.”
“So busy, yet he still comes to pack food to go?” Kakashi felt this was illogical.
“Of course, it’s because Teacher Muzuki’s cooking is simply too delicious. If there’s a chance, even if there’s no time to eat together, he has to take it to go,” Obito, however, nodded in agreement, believing Minato was doing nothing wrong.
Kakashi instinctively wanted to refute, but recalling the taste of Muzuki’s cooking, he felt it wasn’t that illogical after all.
“Tomorrow morning, normal training. The afternoon and evening are for you to arrange yourselves,” Muzuki announced the next day’s schedule after some post-dinner chatting.
Just as the disciples were preparing to go home, Muzuki called out to Might Guy individually.
“Might Guy, wait a moment before you leave.”
Might Guy obediently turned back and sat down.
“I’ll go back with you. I have something to discuss with your father,” Muzuki explained with a smile after tidying up.
“Oh, that’s great! My father should be home around this time,” Might Guy replied, nodding.
He had just been wondering if it was about training or his birthday, but he didn’t expect it to be related to his father.
By this time, the sun had completely set, and it was the moon’s domain.
Might Guy’s house was in a very secluded location. The further they walked towards Might Guy’s house, the fewer human sounds there were, and the more sounds of nature.
“I’m home!” Might Guy shouted after opening the door.
“Teacher Muzuki is here too; he has something to talk to you about.”
“Oh, Teacher Muzuki is here? Then I should brew some tea,” Might Duy quickly walked out to check.
“No need to trouble yourself. I just came to discuss something with Might Dai today; I won’t stay too long,” Muzuki said with a smile.
Although Muzuki refused, Might Guy still volunteered to boil water and make tea.
“Might Dai, do you want to become a higher-ranking Ninja?” Muzuki asked directly.
Based on Muzuki’s analysis of Might Guy, making Might Guy’s father better and stronger would be more impactful than any elaborate gift.
I have a bit of a headache today, but I’ll try my best to write. Let’s see if I can finish Might Guy’s birthday in one go.
