Chapter 252 Uchiha: From the Warring States Heroes to the Extinction of the Clan
by Sunflower“Material One:
During the Warring States Period, there were two powerful Ninja clans: the Senju Clan, which valued love, and the Uchiha Clan, which valued power. The two clans fought to the death, viewing each other as mortal enemies. Once either side heard the surname of the opposing clan, they would immediately launch an attack.
However, Uchiha Madara, the leader of the Uchiha Clan, and Senju Hashirama, the leader of the Senju Clan, shared a special friendship. Through several victories, Senju Hashirama eventually moved Uchiha Madara, and ultimately, the two clans reconciled and jointly established Konoha.
Senju Hashirama supported Uchiha Madara to become Hokage, and Uchiha Madara himself also wanted to become Hokage. During the Hokage election, all clans and residents of Konoha supported Senju Hashirama to become Hokage, and ultimately, Senju Hashirama became the Hokage.”
“Based on the content of the material and your knowledge of history, analyze why Uchiha Madara ultimately lost the election and the reasons for Senju Hashirama’s success.” Muzuki asked, looking at all the students after finishing reading.
Even Shisui, who had already done the problem, showed a pensive expression, as Muzuki hadn’t given him many points.
Obito scratched his head, feeling that this question was harder than any history question he had ever done, because the textbook barely mentioned anything about Uchiha Madara. He only remembered that Uchiha Madara was very bad, defected, and caused massive destruction to Konoha.
“Is it because Uchiha Madara defected?” Obito suddenly thought to himself. It made sense that a rogue Ninja couldn’t become Hokage.
However, Obito didn’t say this out loud, because he thought that perhaps the Hokage election happened before his defection.
“Because the Uchiha Clan advocated power and didn’t have a good reputation, everyone supported the loving Senju Clan.” Kakashi thought for a moment and replied.
Not only during the Warring States Period, but even now, the Uchiha in Konoha have a similar image.
“Except for Obito,” Kakashi silently added in his mind. Obito was indeed an anomaly among the Uchiha.
“What do you mean by advocating power and having no good reputation? Kakashi, you’re slandering me.” Obito said, looking indignant.
“Is there a possibility that you’re not a normal Uchiha, and I’m just answering the question?” Kakashi said indifferently.
“You’re only partly right. Out of ten points, I can give you four.” Muzuki graded.
“Only four points…” Kakashi continued to ponder.
“Because Senju Hashirama’s youth burned more intensely than Uchiha Madara’s!” After some thought, Might Guy stated his answer.
“Zero point five points.” Muzuki gave him a point for trying.
Obito and Rin Nohara also gave their answers, but none of their scores exceeded Kakashi’s.
“Kakashi’s answer is correct, but it’s not complete. It’s not only because Uchiha Madara and the Uchiha Clan had a worse reputation, but also because the Senju Clan and Senju Hashirama were the victors of the war.”
“Uchiha Madara reconciled with the Senju Clan after losing the war to them. In essence, the Uchiha Clan had already been defeated, which is different from other Ninja clans that actively joined Konoha.”
“One side was the victor, the other was the loser. Naturally, everyone was willing to vote for the victorious side with a good reputation. Even if Senju Hashirama wanted Uchiha Madara to become Hokage, his followers would not agree.” Muzuki gave the complete answer.
From Muzuki’s perspective, this question was actually quite simple; it didn’t require much knowledge.
“Why is that? Didn’t they reconcile and become comrades? Why do they still care about the previous victories and losses?” Obito asked, looking confused.
He could understand why Senju Hashirama received more support, but he didn’t understand why everyone would support Senju Hashirama completely, even though Senju Hashirama himself supported Uchiha Madara.
“Even if Uchiha Madara regarded others as comrades, others might not necessarily regard Uchiha Madara as a comrade, and it also involves the interests of various clans.” Muzuki patiently answered Obito’s question.
Muzuki liked Obito’s kindness very much, but Obito shouldn’t assume that others were as kind as he was.
When it came to the impact of Hashirama becoming Hokage on the interests of various clans, Obito became even more confused. He understood the individual words, but when put together, he couldn’t grasp the meaning.
Muzuki scanned the room; only Kakashi and Shisui could barely keep up. Kakashi was more mature, and Shisui had a deeper empathy for the Uchiha.
Muzuki didn’t mind; their performance at this age was already quite good. He continued to explain the next question.
“After the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, passed away, his younger brother, Senju Tobirama, became the Second Hokage. To prevent another Uchiha Madara from appearing, he integrated the Uchiha Clan and established the Konoha Police Force, responsible for maintaining the Village’s public order. He fully entrusted the Konoha Police Force to the Uchiha Clan, granting the Uchiha Clan the authority to manage public order.
Not long after the Konoha Police Force was founded, some Uchiha clansmen attempted to rebel and seize the Hokage position. They ultimately failed under the Anbu’s suppression. From then on, the Anbu began to monitor the Uchiha Clan, and at the same time, the Uchiha Clan’s reputation grew worse and worse, disliked by many Ninja clans and the general populace.”
“Based on the above material, analyze the impact of the Konoha Police Force on the Uchiha Clan, and the reasons why the Uchiha became disliked by the public.”
Worried that some might not understand Anbu and the Konoha Police Force, Muzuki specifically explained the functions of these two departments.
“So everyone dislikes the Uchiha? I had no idea.” Obito scratched his head and asked in confusion.
He felt quite popular; the old men and Grandmas were very enthusiastic towards him, always trying to give him things to eat.
“Because not everyone dislikes every Uchiha equally, Obito, your kindness is loved by the villagers.” Muzuki said with a smile.
“Yes, Obito is so popular with the Grandmas. It feels like everyone really likes Obito.” Rin Nohara said, nodding in agreement.
Suddenly receiving praise from two people he cared about, Obito’s cheeks flushed slightly, and he chuckled, “Everyone’s just too enthusiastic.”
Shisui felt this deeply. Obito was indeed the only Uchiha he had ever seen who was popular among the villagers. Shisui admitted he was not as good as Obito in this regard.
Kakashi lowered his head and thought for a moment, then spoke up:
“The Konoha Police Force gave the Uchiha immense power, causing them to become arrogant and desire even greater power, which led to their rebellion. The Uchiha Clan’s reputation worsened because they were disliked for their rebellion, and Uchiha with bad personalities working in public order maintenance might further cause dissatisfaction among residents.”
“Shisui, do you have any new ideas?” Muzuki didn’t rush to grade Kakashi, but instead looked at Shisui and asked.
“It’s roughly similar to Kakashi’s, but I have a different view on the rebellion. I believe the rebellion happened partly because of Uchiha Madara’s previous defection. Uchiha Madara was, after all, the leader of the Uchiha Clan, and he could influence many people.” Shisui thought for a moment and replied.
Muzuki nodded, then looked at the other students.
“I feel like the Konoha Police Force made the clan members interact less with outsiders. Before, a person named Uchiha Yashiro told me that he wanted me to join the Police Force directly after graduation. As for why they’re disliked, I can’t figure it out.” Obito replied.
“Obito, you answered well this time.” Muzuki smiled and nodded.
Whether by coincidence or not, Obito really hit on a key point this time.
Obito immediately smiled, feeling that his theory might actually be salvageable.
After listening to all the students’ answers, Muzuki announced the solution. This question was much harder than the previous one; it could be said to be the core issue of the Uchiha Clan.
“Because of the power brought by the Konoha Police Force, the Uchiha became arrogant. At the same time, due to a large number of clan members joining the Police Force, the Uchiha Clan became more insular, with greatly reduced interaction with outsiders. One single clan controlling an entire department aroused suspicion and apprehension from other clans and residents.
A more insular Uchiha would make the clan members more arrogant and conceited. Managing public order in this state would breed more trouble, thus increasing negative rumors about the Uchiha. Moreover, the rebellion made Konoha’s higher-ups even more wary of the Uchiha, ultimately escalating the conflict between the Uchiha and Konoha, and their reputation continued to decline.”
Actually, there were some things Muzuki hadn’t mentioned yet, such as assigning a large number of Uchiha to the Police Force, where a more comfortable environment could reduce the generation of Sharingan and Mangekyo Sharingan, thereby weakening the overall strength of the Uchiha Clan.
However, that’s a bit too much of a conspiracy theory; it needs to be introduced step by step.
Muzuki truly felt that Tobirama was a genius. Aside from his strength not matching Hashirama’s, he excelled in all other aspects. With just the Konoha Police Force, he happily led the Uchiha to their demise.
The more Shisui listened, the more alarmed he became. After careful consideration, he realized that everything Muzuki said checked out.
Even Uchiha Fugaku, the current Uchiha Clan leader, had personally sought him out, offering to use his authority to transfer him to the Police Force for training early.
This Konoha Police Force, which made the Uchiha proud, actually brought so much trouble to the Uchiha Clan. Shisui truly felt a chill down his spine when he thought about it.
“Did Second Hokage consider this outcome from the very beginning, or was it the Uchiha’s own doing?” Shisui couldn’t help but wonder.
“It’s so complicated! So, Shisui, the problems you usually do are all this difficult?” Obito exclaimed.
“Huh? Aren’t the problems you do like this?” Shisui was stunned, then asked, as he had thought Obito had always been doing these kinds of problems.
“Of course not.” Obito replied, then showed his test paper to Shisui.
Looking at the questions on Obito’s test paper, Shisui was a bit confused. Weren’t these just the Ninja Academy exam questions? These kinds of questions were easy to do.
“Although it’s the same training, I will create questions based on your different skill levels.” Muzuki explained.
His teaching was tailored to each individual; even the Shadow Clone for Obito and Shisui didn’t move at the same speed.
Of course, after Obito graduates, his problems will become the same as Shisui’s, because at that point, he must have grown.
Muzuki lectured for an hour and a half, then let the students rest for half an hour before starting the afternoon training.
This chapter is 3k words. I originally planned to just write a short section about “Muzuki teaching them problems to improve their knowledge,” but in the end, I decided to elaborate. I think this kind of transformation is very important; otherwise, the character design would feel inconsistent.
Good night, everyone. I hope I can fall asleep early tonight; my head is already starting to hurt.
