Chapter 169 The Sinister Ninja (3k)
by Sunflower“Hmph, Kakashi thinks he can surpass me in missions? I’ll make sure he comes back empty-handed.” Obito was in a very good mood as he walked along the path to find the cat.
He felt certain he would win because out of the five missions Muzuki accepted, there was one to find a cat and one to find lost items. He would definitely complete these two first, and then he just needed to casually finish one more to secure his victory.
Kakashi stood no chance against him, who had the power of Grandmas and Grandpas.
With the help of many enthusiastic elderly people, Obito gradually learned the whereabouts of the lost pet cat.
But something Obito hadn’t expected happened; when he arrived at the destination, he actually saw Kakashi, who had already caught the pet cat.
“Kakashi, what are you doing here?” Obito asked, puzzled.
“Evidently, I’m here to complete a requested mission,” Kakashi replied calmly.
Obito scratched his head. He, of course, knew Kakashi was there for a mission; he was just wondering why Kakashi had arrived before him.
“You got lucky this time. Later, I’ll show you the strength of Konoha’s Mission King.” Obito decided not to waste time with Kakashi and quickly moved on to the next mission.
“Then let’s wait and see,” Kakashi said calmly. This time, Obito was sure to lose.
Because Kakashi was currently ahead by one mission, Obito moved much faster. He didn’t want to lose after having made such a bold declaration.
Leveraging his network, Obito chose to complete the mission of finding lost items.
“Thank you for the information, Grandpa.”
“No need for cookies or anything, thank you for your help, Grandma.”
Obito thanked his way to the lost item’s location.
But something Obito hadn’t expected happened: Kakashi was again one step faster than him, arriving at the location first and finding the lost item.
“Kakashi, why is it you again?” Obito felt a sense of unease.
Kakashi had already completed two missions, while he hadn’t completed a single one yet.
“Why can’t it be me? Does this mission have to be completed by you first?” Kakashi retorted.
Obito was speechless and immediately sprinted rapidly to the next mission location.
When he arrived at the garbage cleanup site, he found that the garbage here had already been cleaned up by Kakashi’s Shadow Clone.
“Damn it, this mission is also completed!” Obito’s heart sank to the extreme. In the first round, he was completely at a disadvantage; Kakashi had already completed three missions.
“Guy went to do the moving mission and is almost done. Only the mission to clean up the trap area’s garbage remains. If you go quickly, you might be able to complete it before Guy,” Jonin Muzuki appeared in time to remind him.
“Jonin Muzuki, thankfully you’re here.” Obito thanked Jonin Muzuki and then quickly ran towards the trap area.
If he didn’t complete any missions in the first round, the pressure in the second round would be too great. He needed to complete more than four missions, otherwise it would be difficult to win, but how could he complete so many when Kakashi and Might Guy weren’t without hands and feet?
The reward for cleaning up garbage in the trap area was much higher than ordinary D-Rank missions because the difficulty was slightly higher; it would be troublesome if one didn’t care about triggering traps.
When everyone completed their missions and returned, Jonin Muzuki announced the mission completion status of his disciples.
“Kakashi is temporarily in the lead with three missions completed. Guy and Obito are tied with one mission completed each.”
“It seems I will be the winner this time,” Kakashi said with a calm expression, as if he had done something insignificant.
“Kakashi, don’t be too arrogant. We still have to accept missions later. It’s not certain who will win or lose,” Obito had not given up yet.
“That’s right, there’s hope of victory until the very last moment!” Might Guy laughed heartily, giving a thumbs-up.
Seeing that his disciples were all so motivated, Jonin Muzuki smiled and nodded. The rate of Chakra increase was much faster than in class.
After five missions, his Chakra directly increased by over two hundred. Even with a full day of large classes, he would only gain eighty Chakra per day.
After accepting five more missions, Obito was no longer in the mood to hum a tune and stroll leisurely. As soon as he received the missions, he checked if there were any he was good at completing.
However, among these five missions, only one was related to searching; the others were all miscellaneous chores.
But Obito had no choice; one was better than none. Obito finished reading the mission description and immediately dashed off to search.
When Obito finally arrived at the destination after much hardship, he saw the person he least wanted to see.
“Why is it still you, Kakashi!” Obito couldn’t hold back. Kakashi had again just happened to be one step faster than him in completing the mission.
“Mission complete,” Kakashi’s answer was the same as before.
“Something’s not right, it’s extremely not right,” Obito sensed an anomaly in his heart.
Kakashi being ahead once could be attributed to good luck, but being ahead three times in a row was too coincidental. If Kakashi had this ability, how could he have lost to him three times in a row before?
“Did you finally realize?” Kakashi was a bit surprised. Given Obito’s intelligence, he had thought Obito would discover the truth even later.
“Kakashi, you must have bought insider information with money, that’s why you’re faster than me, right?” Obito said, looking as if he had seen through everything.
“You’ve been a Ninja for several years now, so you must have saved up a lot of money. I can’t believe you would go this far.”
Kakashi: …
He truly didn’t understand Obito’s thought process. Shouldn’t he suspect being followed? What the heck was buying insider information with money?
“Why would you think that?” Kakashi couldn’t help but ask.
“Isn’t it always like that in novels? The villain uses money to surpass the hardworking protagonist,” Obito said as if it were obvious.
Kakashi was speechless. So, in Obito’s eyes, he was the villain, and Obito himself was the protagonist.
Because Obito’s answer was too absurd, Kakashi directly said:
“There’s no such thing as insider information in D-Rank missions, and no one would spend money to complete D-Rank missions. The reason I’m faster than you is because I followed you and then found the mission objective faster than you.”
What to do if you don’t have information? Just eavesdrop on others’ information. Kakashi simply rode on Obito’s coattails all the way, and then sent Shadow Clones to do the miscellaneous tasks, which is why he was so far ahead.
“Following? How despicable!” Obito was shocked. He never expected that the reason Kakashi was faster than him was this. This was practically stealing the fruits of his labor.
“There’s nothing despicable about it. You can follow me too, if you have the ability,” Kakashi challenged.
“Reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance are basic Ninja skills. If you had noticed me in time, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“Damn it, if I had the Sharingan, I would definitely have found you!” Obito was very unwilling. He recalled his memories of finding things and hadn’t noticed at all that he was being followed.
“Save that talk for when you have the Sharingan. The Ninja world is very cruel. If it were an enemy following you, what do you think your fate would be?” Kakashi finished speaking, then turned and left to continue the mission.
Thanks to Obito, they still had four missions to do.
Kakashi’s words immediately sent Obito’s blood pressure soaring. He wished he could immediately have a real-life PK with Kakashi. To have the fruits of his victory stolen and then be mocked, if his Breathing Technique had reached the Constant State, could he endure this anger?
Obito channeled his anger into motivation and began to complete missions quickly. He didn’t want to lose too badly.
The result of the second round was that Kakashi completed two missions alone, Might Guy and Obito each completed one alone, and then they completed one together.
“Kakashi completed five missions alone and took first place. Obito and Guy are tied for second,” Jonin Muzuki announced the final results.
“Haha, as expected of my rival, you’ve improved so quickly! You completed half of the missions by yourself!” Might Guy laughed heartily.
Originally, Might Guy wanted to utilize his Taijutsu specialty, so he chose all the physically demanding missions. He didn’t expect those missions to be one more troublesome than the last, which resulted in Might Guy only completing two and a half.
“It’s alright, I just beat someone who talks big,” Kakashi said with a composed expression.
Although he didn’t say a name, he practically just stopped short of reading out the number on Obito’s intern ID.
“I did three more than you yesterday, so with those three, I have five and a half, which is more than you!” Obito chose to bring up old scores.
“If we’re counting past missions, I have more C-Rank Missions alone than all your D-Rank missions combined,” Kakashi said calmly.
“Everyone worked very hard today. After submitting the missions, I’ll take you all to my house for dinner,” Jonin Muzuki ended their argument with a gentle smile.
“Jonin Muzuki, you won’t be able to accept missions for a while. You’ve pretty much done all the miscellaneous tasks. You completed ten missions in one afternoon; your efficiency is too high,” the Registration Ninja reminded Jonin Muzuki when they submitted the missions.
“What! There are no more missions?” Obito couldn’t help but ask.
He was still thinking of being careful tomorrow and defeating Kakashi again, but with no missions, how could he redeem himself?
“Your speed is too fast. You completed twenty missions in two days. Some classes can’t even do that many missions in a month,” the Registration Ninja said helplessly.
“No D-Rank missions? But there should be other missions, right?” Obito couldn’t swallow his anger from today.
“Don’t even think about it. As interns, you can currently only accept D-Rank missions,” the Registration Ninja replied.
“Don’t underestimate me! Even though I’m still in school, I’m the top student at the Ninja Academy, and I’ve even defeated official Ninjas,” Obito still hadn’t given up.
“No means no,” the Registration Ninja’s attitude was very clear.
Regardless of whether Obito’s words were true or false, he didn’t want to do something that broke the rules. There were no benefits, and if something went wrong, he would be the first to suffer.
“What happened?” Hiruzen Sarutobi, who was leaving work, happened to see this scene. Seeing Jonin Muzuki and Kakashi, he walked over and asked.
“Lord Sandaime,” the Registration Ninja respectfully addressed him.
“It’s like this, their team…” The Registration Ninja quickly reported the cause and events to Hiruzen Sarutobi.
“Twenty missions in two days.” Hiruzen Sarutobi was also a bit surprised.
“In that case…”
