Chapter Index

“How rare, it’s so lively today.” Obito’s grandma said with a chuckle, seeing so many friends come to celebrate Obito’s birthday.

“Hello, my name is Hayate Mugetsu, and I am Obito’s teacher.” Muzuki smiled and greeted Obito’s grandma.

“Grandma, Muzuki Sensei is so good to me. The reason my grades improved so quickly is all thanks to Muzuki Sensei’s excellent teaching,” Obito said from the side.

“Then I’ve truly troubled Muzuki Sensei. Let me pour you a cup of tea.” Obito’s grandma thanked Muzuki and prepared to get up and pour tea for Muzuki.

“Grandma, just stay seated. I’ll do it.” Obito nimbly poured a cup of tea for everyone, even Kakashi.

“Obito must have caused you a lot of worry, Muzuki Sensei. I watched Obito grow up. He does sometimes mess up, but it’s not intentional. Obito is very kind-hearted,” Grandma said with a smile, squinting her eyes.

“Actually, it’s fine. Obito works very hard in all aspects and is indeed very kind-hearted. He is a student I am proud of,” Muzuki praised with a smile, then picked up his teacup and took a sip.

Before becoming insane, Obito could indeed be described as warm-hearted and kind.

“Grandma!” Obito couldn’t help but exclaim. What did she mean by ‘does sometimes mess up’? He was clearly very reliable.

“I remember when Obito was three years old, he was still…”

“Grandma, did you forget to bring in the clothes you hung outside? Let’s go get them together, otherwise, it won’t be good if it rains.” Cold sweat poured down Obito’s forehead as he quickly spoke. If she said it, he’d automatically learn Earth Release and burrow into the ground.

“It seems I did forget.” Obito’s grandma thought for a moment and realized she seemed to have forgotten something.

“I can go by myself, Obito. You stay here and chat with your teacher and friends,” Grandma said with a smile.

Obito originally wanted to help, but Grandma repeatedly refused. Thinking the clothes were just in the yard, Obito sat down as Grandma instructed and continued chatting with everyone.

“What exactly was it when he was three?” Might Guy stroked his chin, showing intense curiosity.

“Nothing, just that I hadn’t learned to write when I was three,” Obito replied casually.

“I always felt that Obito and his grandma had a very good relationship; their daily life must be very warm,” Rin Nohara said softly with a smile.

“Hehe, after all, Grandma raised me,” Obito said, scratching his head and smiling foolishly.

Kakashi originally wanted to press the issue of what Obito was doing at three years old, because Obito’s answer felt very perfunctory to him. But considering it was Obito’s birthday today, he decided to temporarily give up asking and wait for a more opportune moment.

Shisui found it a bit difficult to join this topic because he wasn’t raised by direct relatives. After he started remembering things, his grandparents, father, and mother were all gone.

“Obito, do you want to guess what gifts everyone has prepared for you?” Muzuki noticed Shisui’s and Kakashi’s silence, so he spoke with a smile.

He didn’t know if the Ninja world was too cruel or if they were all just unlucky. Among them, four had lost both parents. Might Guy had a father but no mother, and only Rin Nohara had both parents.

“Guy, yours should be a bodysuit,” Obito guessed Might Guy’s first, as it was the easiest to guess.

“As expected of you, Obito! You actually guessed it!” Might Guy said with a shocked expression.

“Because you always like to give that, Guy,” Kakashi couldn’t help but retort. Ever since he met Might Guy in school, he always saw him wearing that green bodysuit, and when he grew taller, he just switched to a larger size.

“Is that so?” Might Guy rubbed his head, deep in thought.

Since Kakashi had already made the retort, Obito moved on to guessing the next person’s gift.

“Rin, would it be flowers you grew yourself?” Obito asked with some uncertainty.

“No,” Rin Nohara shook her head, indicating Obito guessed wrong.

“Could it be a handmade craft?” Obito continued to guess.

“That’s too broad a range; that won’t do,” Rin Nohara smiled and shook her head again.

“Forget it, I can’t guess. I’ll just wait until you give it to me, Rin,” Obito scratched his head, deciding to guess the next person’s gift.

“Shisui, is your gift related to training?” Obito asked first.

“No relation,” Shisui replied, shaking his head slightly.

“Could it be a notebook with cultivation experiences recorded in it?” Obito thought for a moment and asked, after all, Shisui was a super genius.

“No, if it were that, it would be better to just ask Muzuki Sensei directly,” Shisui continued to deny Obito’s guess.

He hadn’t guessed correctly again. Obito felt a headache coming on and changed targets again, asking Kakashi:

“Kakashi, your gift must be related to training, right?”

“It has nothing to do with training,” Kakashi replied calmly.

Obito felt his brain itching. Why was it different from what he thought? Weren’t Kakashi and Shisui pragmatists? Why was he guessing wrong repeatedly?

“Aren’t you going to guess my gift?” Muzuki asked with a chuckle.

“No, no, it feels too hard to guess. Let’s keep it as a surprise,” Obito gave up guessing gifts, but after this, he was even more excited about their gifts.

Next, it was time to prepare dinner. Although Obito’s grandma said that Muzuki, as a guest, didn’t need to help in the kitchen, Muzuki successfully persuaded Obito’s grandma. He took charge of the cooking and prepared some dishes, and the other students also helped as much as they could. Kakashi, who knew how to cook, helped prepare ingredients, while those who couldn’t do anything helped wash vegetables and dishes.

“I didn’t expect Sensei to have this skill. If Obito could learn even a third of your cooking level, I wouldn’t have to worry about him not finding a wife in the future,” Grandma was instantly amazed after tasting Muzuki’s cooking.

She wasn’t clear about Muzuki’s Ninja strength, but his cooking level was indeed the most exaggerated she had ever seen in her life.

“Grandma, this is delicious, eat more,” Obito felt a headache coming on. He quickly put some of Muzuki’s dishes into Grandma’s bowl, hoping Grandma would enjoy the food and let him safely get through his birthday.

“It would indeed be wonderful to have a partner like Muzuki Sensei; every meal would be very happy,” Rin Nohara took a bite and said with a happy smile.

“Muzuki Sensei, I want to learn this!” Obito shouted in his heart.

Hearing Rin Nohara’s words, Obito really wanted Muzuki to add cooking to his training plan.

“Eating Muzuki Sensei’s cooking makes me feel like my youth is burning even more intensely,” Might Guy said, giving a thumbs-up.

Kakashi, who already had some cooking skills, nodded. Muzuki’s cooking was so delicious that he suspected it was some kind of specialized cooking Ninjutsu.

“Muzuki Sensei’s cooking allows one to truly feel the essence of the ingredients,” Shisui commented. Every time he ate Muzuki’s cooking, it was a delight for him.

“As long as everyone likes it,” Muzuki said with a gentle smile.

His chef skill helped him much more than some master-level skills; it was truly a good impression-boosting divine skill.

After dinner, they cleared the table, placed the cake, and began the gift-giving segment.

“A custom-made bodysuit, specially tailored for you. Training in this will definitely yield twice the results with half the effort!” Might Guy took out a green bodysuit that was slightly different from the one he was wearing and introduced it to Obito.

“Thank you, Guy. I feel your sincerity. I will cherish it well,” Obito said with a smile, accepting the gift.

He could tell that Might Guy genuinely wanted him to wear the bodysuit for training, but the deadly green color of the bodysuit made Obito hesitate.

“Here, happy birthday,” Rin Nohara said with a smile, handing a piece of paper to Obito.

“It’s a hand-drawn picture,” Obito curiously brought it closer to his eyes to examine it, finding it depicted scenes from when they played together a few days ago.

There was him and Kakashi vying to catch fish, and their competition in Shuriken throwing.

“Rin, why didn’t you draw yourself in?” Obito looked left and right, but couldn’t find Rin Nohara, only seeing himself and Kakashi. So he asked, utterly bewildered.

A drawing with only him and Kakashi was worse than one with just him.

“Because that day you and Kakashi were only focused on playing with each other and forgot about me, so I’m not in it,” Rin Nohara said, her small face slightly puffed out, seemingly a bit annoyed.

“Huh? Rin, don’t be angry. Actually, it’s because…” Obito was dumbfounded, his hands gesturing uncontrollably for a moment, then he couldn’t figure out how to explain.

Then Obito realized Rin Nohara was smiling.

Rin Nohara gently placed her left hand in front of her mouth, and with her right hand, took out a palm-sized sculpture and handed it to Obito, saying with a smile:

“I’m not angry, I was just joking. This is the real birthday gift. Obito, aren’t you trying to become Hokage? I believe you will definitely succeed, so I made you a rock statue in advance.”

Obito looked at Rin Nohara’s palm. Although the sculpture was small, it was lifelike, perfectly capturing his smile.

Obito’s mood instantly changed from being at a loss to being overjoyed, as if the earthy-yellow statue in Rin Nohara’s palm had also turned a bit pink.

“Rin, thank you so much! I will take good care of it!” Obito said, nodding heavily after receiving the sculpture.

Obito carefully put away the sculpture and the hand-drawn picture together. Although Rin Nohara wasn’t in the picture, it was still drawn by Rin Nohara herself, so it had to be preserved well.

“Obito, happy birthday. This is my gift.” Shisui handed Obito a silver Kunai.

“Isn’t this the one I gave you before, Shisui? You don’t have to do this. Although this Kunai has commemorative significance to me, once I gave it to you, it gained new meaning,” Obito said, waving his hand.

When he gave the Kunai to Shisui before, he was indeed a bit reluctant, because that Kunai was from the first time he ever got first place, and it was even with Kakashi participating and Rin Nohara watching.

But since it had already been given as a gift, that Kunai became proof of his friendship with Shisui, and taking it back wouldn’t be good.

“It’s not yours. It’s the one I got for taking first place in a competition,” Shisui explained.

“The Youth Ninjutsu Competition isn’t once a year?” Obito was a bit confused. Shisui’s age certainly made him eligible to compete.

“Maybe the last one had a better effect. Now it’s twice a year. I remember you seemed to really like this Kunai, Obito. When I passed by and noticed it, I joined and got first place,” Shisui replied with a relaxed smile on his face.

Listening to Shisui, Obito felt that Shisui hadn’t gone to compete for first place, but rather to stock up at a store.

“That’s thoughtful. I really do like it. Thank you very much,” Obito said gratefully.

Given Shisui’s strength, his explanation was indeed perfectly valid. If he were to participate in the Youth Ninjutsu Competition now, he would also be stocking up; he could easily dominate the entire field with a single Fire Release.

“Now we both have first-place prize Kunai, carrying the bond of us two Uchiha geniuses!” Obito said, clenching his fist and smiling.

Kakashi suppressed his desire to argue with Obito and also presented his gift.

“Happy birthday,” Kakashi said blandly, then handed a camera to Obito.

Obito’s eyes lit up when he saw Kakashi’s gift. He really wanted a camera to record the scenery he encountered on missions and his daily life.

“I didn’t know what to give, and I saw a camera on sale at the store, so I bought one,” Kakashi explained, as if afraid Obito would misunderstand something.

Obito was unsure whether Kakashi’s words were true or false. On their last mission, he had said he wanted a camera, and now Kakashi’s gift was a camera.

If it were Rin Nohara, he would definitely think she was too embarrassed to say it, but with Kakashi, he couldn’t really say.

“My gift is also a Kunai, but it’s one I forged myself. With the experience from last time, the appearance is much better this time,” Muzuki said with a smile, taking out his gift, a white Kunai with a dragon pattern engraved on it.

Obito took the Kunai. Before he even began to examine it closely, he could already feel Muzuki’s dedication to this gift.

The general shape of the Kunai was no different from a standard Kunai, but this Kunai’s appearance completely outshone ordinary standard Kunai. Both sides of the blade had intricate and cool flying dragon patterns, and they were carved very finely, with even the dragon’s expressions being very vivid.

After a closer look, Obito discovered that the words “Obito” were engraved on both sides of the Kunai, and the Uchiha clan crest was carved on the handle.

“Muzuki Sensei, you’ve truly troubled yourself. You spend so much time helping us train every day, and you prepared such a thoughtful gift. Such a complex Kunai must have taken a long time,” Obito said with a serious expression, thanking Muzuki.

Actually, when Shisui received his gift, he wished he could also receive a similar gift. Last time, when Muzuki asked him what gift he wanted, he actually wanted to say he wanted a Ninja tool personally forged by Muzuki Sensei.

But thinking about how much Muzuki had already done for him, Obito couldn’t bring himself to say it, so he just said he would like anything Muzuki gave him.

“It’s fine, actually, I used a Shadow Clone to forge it. After all, there are quite a few things to be busy with,” Muzuki explained with an indifferent smile.

Muzuki’s explanation made Obito even more moved. He knew how to use Shadow Clone; how could he not know what that entailed?

Forging with a Shadow Clone was just as tiring as forging with the main body; in the end, that feeling of exhaustion would still return to the main body, and because the main body was doing other things, it was even more tiring.

Then Muzuki took out four photos and handed them to Obito, saying with a smile:

“You said you regretted not bringing a camera during our last mission, Obito. I found a way to get some photos from there. You just need to record whatever you want to record in the future.”

These photos were taken by Muzuki’s Shadow Clone in the Land of Rivers after Muzuki returned to Konoha and bought a camera. The location was still the same, but there was only scenery, no people.

“Muzuki Sensei, thank you so much! I love your birthday gift so much!” Obito couldn’t help but hug Muzuki, his eyes getting a little misty.

Muzuki had thought about the desert scenery, and he really hadn’t expected it. He had only mentioned it casually.

A beautifully forged Kunai and four photos; Obito could deeply feel Muzuki’s care for him.
