Chapter Index

“I wonder what kind of enemies we’ll encounter this time. If it’s a Chunin, that would be great; I could really show off my skills.” On the way to the Hokage Building, Obito fell into a fantasy.

Obito knew his limits. He definitely couldn’t beat a Jonin, but a Chunin? He could give it a try, after all, Kakashi was also a Chunin.

“What are you thinking? The last mission was an unexpected anomaly. C-Rank Missions don’t involve encountering Ninja,” Kakashi said, exasperated.

He had done so many C-Rank Missions, and the only time he had encountered a Ninja on one was during the last mission.

“If we could encounter them last time, why not this time?” Obito immediately retorted. He was quite eager for another unexpected event like the last one.

The total bounty for the last mission was 800,000 ryo. After taxes, Obito successfully received over 100,000 ryo in rewards, which thrilled him. It was the first time he had seen so much money.

“The Ninja Academy graduation exam should really add a theoretical component, to prevent certain people with no common sense from graduating and becoming Ninja,” Kakashi said blandly.

“So what if your theory is a little better? What’s so great about it? Ninja are judged by their strength. What good is good theory? Guy’s theory is about the same as mine, and he still kicked you so hard you couldn’t get up!”

Hearing Kakashi’s taunt, Obito instantly flared up like an angry cat, launching a furious counterattack.

If Kakashi had said Obito’s strength was lacking, Obito wouldn’t have been so angry. It wasn’t certain who would win in a fight. But Kakashi saying his theory was poor? Obito truly couldn’t stand it, because his theory really was poor.

Kakashi’s face darkened a bit, but he knew it wasn’t the time to dwell on that. He zeroed in on Obito’s theoretical weak spot and struck.

Muzuki didn’t stop the two of them. It was good to let Obito rile up Kakashi a bit. They continued bickering all the way to the Hokage Building.

Since there were other teams also accepting missions there, Obito and Kakashi temporarily ceased their squabble. Obito didn’t want to embarrass Muzuki, and Kakashi thought it was silly to continue.

“I’d like to accept a C-Rank Mission,” Muzuki said to the Registration Ninja.

The Registration Ninja quickly took out a scroll and unrolled it for Muzuki to see.

Muzuki noticed that the mission scroll also contained war missions.

Unless it was an exceptionally urgent situation, Konoha generally wouldn’t force a large number of Ninja to go to the battlefield to perform missions. Some less important tasks would be posted within the village for teams to freely accept.

Of course, some important war missions would definitely still be assigned by the higher-ups to Jonin.

However, when war missions started appearing among the regularly accepted missions, Muzuki knew that the war was gradually entering its next phase.

In fact, Muzuki had known this when Jiraiya came to his house as a guest.

Jiraiya usually traveled the Ninja World and rarely returned to Konoha, yet now he was back.

However, based on the original plot, Muzuki judged that it was still far from the most intense period. There was still a long time before being besieged by the Four Great Shinobi Villages. After all, Obito hadn’t even graduated yet, and Kakashi’s promotion to Jonin was still more than three years away.

According to the original timeline, today should have been the start of Obito’s third semester.

“Jonin Mutsuki, although you are allowed to accept C-Rank Missions, since you have two interns in your class, you are not allowed to accept war missions according to regulations,” the Registration Ninja said.

There were also war missions among D-Rank missions. To prevent any abnormal teachers from taking students to the battlefield and getting into trouble, Hiruzen Sarutobi prohibited classes with interns from accepting war missions.

“Understood, I know,” Muzuki nodded. He hadn’t planned on accepting war missions anyway. It would be troublesome if they encountered a Jinchuriki, or the Tsuchikage or Raikage.

He only wanted to spar with the candidate Kage who hadn’t grown up yet. As for the current Kage, he’d pass.

The Third Hokage, Third Tsuchikage, and Third Raikage—none of them were simple. The Third Hokage, needless to say, he had seen his stats. The Third Raikage was incredibly tough; he could withstand even a Rasenshuriken. The Third Tsuchikage’s Dust Release was also very powerful, and he could fly.

“Huh, what mission aren’t we allowed to take?” Rebellious Obito, upon hearing that there were missions they weren’t allowed to take, immediately leaned forward to check.

    Smack!

Muzuki didn’t even look and directly gave Obito a tap on the head.

“Did Teacher Muzuki research a Ninjutsu just to hit me? How did you hit me so accurately?” Obito looked at Muzuki, who was still looking at the mission scroll but had accurately tapped his forehead, with a shocked expression.

“Because I have good eyesight,” Muzuki replied with a smile, continuing to look at the mission scroll.

Excluding war missions, C-Rank Missions were the usual: either driving away wild beasts, dealing with bandits, or escorting clients or documents.

It wasn’t that clients didn’t want to assign other types of missions, but anything higher would require more money and become a B-Rank Mission, which was beyond the scope of what Muzuki’s team could currently accept.

Muzuki carefully looked at the missions. More than the mission content, he focused on the mission location. The Land of Grass was immediately excluded by Muzuki, as Konoha and Iwagakure might have a major battle there.

Finally, after looking through them, Muzuki chose a mission located in the Land of Rivers: driving away wild beasts.

The mission description stated that a giant black eagle frequently harassed residents in Kawakita Town, the mission location, eating their domestic poultry like a buffet. Chickens, ducks, geese, and even pigs hadn’t escaped the black eagle’s clutches.

Muzuki estimated that this giant black eagle was probably a Nin-Beast. To be able to snatch and eat domestic pigs, its strength was certainly not ordinary.

Muzuki then checked the mission release time. It was a new mission posted just last night.

“This mission will do,” Muzuki said, pointing to the mission to drive away wild beasts in the Land of Rivers.

If something unexpected happened, it would be considered extra income. If not, he could also test how much a normal C-Rank Mission paid. If successful, he might even acquire a bird Nin-Beast.

There weren’t many flying creatures in the Ninja World. If he had a bird Nin-Beast, it would be more convenient when he couldn’t defeat an opponent and needed to escape quickly.

“Let me see, let me see.” As Muzuki walked out of the mission hall, Obito leaned in to look at the mission.

“Huh, it’s not the same country as last time.”

Obito’s voice seemed a little disappointed.

“What, do you like the Land of Rice Fields?” Muzuki asked, putting away the mission slip.

“Hehe, not really, I just feel like the chances of encountering enemies there would be higher,” Obito replied with a chuckle.

Muzuki was a bit at a loss for words. It was as if Obito was treating the Cloud Ninja as fixed, low-level monsters to farm.

However, Obito was right this time; the chances of encountering enemies in the Land of Rice Fields were indeed higher.

Losing an elite squad—if it were a frontal battlefield, that would be one thing; even the Raikage might be sacrificed on a frontal battlefield, let alone Jonin. But in this unexpected situation, an elite squad simply vanished, and Kumogakure would definitely send people to investigate.

If it weren’t for this giant eagle in the Land of Rivers, Muzuki would most likely have specifically asked if there were any missions in the Land of Rice Fields.

After all, the Third Raikage couldn’t possibly come to investigate personally, could he?

There will be more later, but it will be a bit late.
