Chapter 181 The Secret to Controlling Might Guy and His Son
by Sunflower“Haha, if I could be promoted, who would want to be a Genin for life?” Might Duy laughed, but a hint of loneliness was hidden in his eyes.
If he was content to remain a Genin, he wouldn’t have trained in Eight Gates for ten years, day in and day out.
This was twenty years of practicing nothing but one Taijutsu, a huge test for both body and mind.
Although he eventually learned Eight Gates as he wished, it took too long, and his performance during that period made him a disliked existence, with no opportunity to show what he could do.
Forget about A-Rank Missions or B-Rank Missions; he could barely even get D-Rank missions.
Many D-Rank missions were subsidized by the Village to train newly graduated Ninja, not for the incompetent to retire.
However, Might Duy believed this experience wasn’t entirely bad; at least it tempered his spirit, making him stronger internally. The losses he suffered weren’t in vain; they were to help Might Guy try things out. He wouldn’t let Might Guy follow in his old footsteps.
“The current situation in the Ninja World is chaotic. The Land of Lightning and the Land of Earth are both plotting against the Land of Fire. Konoha is short on combat power, so it’s unreasonable for a Taijutsu master like you, Might Dai, to remain a Genin,” Muzuki said with a pained expression.
Except for the special case of Special Jonin, Ninja ranks only have three levels, and it can be said that each new rank is a qualitative change.
Genin on the battlefield only follow orders; they are always commanded. Chunin can serve as captains when performing non-critical missions, while Jonin are the main combat force in war, almost always acting as captains when on missions.
Then Muzuki told Might Duy about the skirmish they encountered during their C-Rank Mission.
“If this continues, the Ninja World will become increasingly chaotic, and a major war might break out very soon,” Muzuki sighed.
“Has the situation reached such a point?” Might Duy’s expression turned serious.
It was difficult for a perpetual Genin like him to get war-related intelligence because no one ever told him anything.
“Due to some special reasons, I have better access to the Sandaime. If Might Dai is willing to use Eight Gates, not to mention Jonin, promotion to Chunin should not be a problem,” Muzuki nodded.
Even after becoming an intern teacher, he didn’t directly resign from his tutoring position; he just no longer went to teach at a fixed time every week as before.
Might Duy could use Six Gates without significant damage, meaning Might Duy could be treated as an ordinary elite Jonin. With such strength, and given the wartime period, Muzuki didn’t believe Hiruzen Sarutobi would be unmoved by such combat power.
Hiruzen Sarutobi might be hesitant to directly promote him to Jonin due to Might Duy’s resume and past contributions, but Chunin shouldn’t be a big problem.
There are two ways to get promoted to Chunin: one is through the Chunin Exams, which Konoha holds twice a year. Those who perform well can be promoted to Chunin.
The other method is through accumulating contributions, meaning getting promoted based on the number of missions completed.
Everything in Konoha involves missions; even Muzuki teaching at the Ninja Academy counts as a mission, and various actions during wartime also count as missions.
It was naturally impossible for Might Duy to participate in the Chunin Exams, as Might Guy’s birthday was tomorrow.
Although Might Duy’s mission completion data didn’t meet the requirements, his strength was high, which could compensate for some of it.
Once he became a Chunin, Might Duy would have opportunities to prove himself, and then becoming a Special Jonin based on his strength and contributions wouldn’t be difficult.
As for becoming a Jonin, Muzuki felt it would be a bit difficult, because currently Konoha’s requirements for Jonin are very strict. It would be hard for someone like Might Duy, who specializes in one area, to become a formal Jonin, unless he made significant contributions in war.
“Even if you only open Six Gates, Might Dai, your strength already surpasses many Jonin. Serving as a Chunin is more than enough.”
“Might Dai, what do you think of my proposal?” Muzuki asked, looking at Might Duy’s rugged face.
“Excellent, you truly are Teacher Muzuki!” Might Duy nodded readily and gave Muzuki a thumbs-up.
“Thank you so much!” Might Duy stood up and bowed deeply to Muzuki in gratitude.
While Muzuki was speaking, Might Duy thought a lot.
His first thought was how to repay Muzuki’s kindness, and then he realized he had nothing to give.
Muzuki also knew the only thing he was good at, Eight Gates, and Muzuki’s strength was unfathomable. Without using Ninjutsu, just opening two gates gave him strength beyond Might Duy’s Six Gates, so Muzuki didn’t need his help either.
But Might Duy ultimately agreed to Muzuki’s proposal, not because he wanted to prove his strength to others, but for Might Guy.
He had trained all the way, and he knew that building a strong body required money. Various supplements and training elixirs were very expensive. The consequence of not having money was a lower potential and a pile of hidden injuries.
It was fine when there was no opportunity before, but now that the opportunity was right in front of him, if he didn’t seize it, he wouldn’t be a qualified father.
He would feel guilty accepting Muzuki’s favor without being able to repay it, but he would feel even more guilty if he didn’t seize this opportunity to make Might Guy’s growth path smoother.
“You don’t have to be like this, Might Dai. I’m doing this for Konoha as well,” Muzuki said with a smile.
With Might Duy agreeing, it was a sure thing. Tomorrow, Might Guy would definitely get a big surprise.
“I also have a secret medicine here for Taijutsu Ninja training that can eliminate hidden injuries in the body. I’ll give it to you, Might Dai, as an early celebration of your promotion.” Muzuki took out a secret medicine from his Ninja tools pouch and handed it to Might Duy.
Now that secret medicines could be bought directly with money, they weren’t as precious. Helping Might Duy now was helping Might Guy in the future.
“Eliminate hidden injuries? I’m at this age, I don’t need it. You should keep it or give it to Guy,” Might Duy shook his head, refusing.
He had accumulated a lifetime of hidden injuries over the past few decades, and one secret medicine wouldn’t do much. He’d rather save such a good thing for Might Guy.
“I’ve already saved one for Guy. This one is extra. Might Dai, you can try eating it to see the effect,” Muzuki placed the secret medicine in front of Might Duy.
Although Might Duy was reliable, Muzuki still wanted to see Might Duy eat it to be at ease. The medicine was too effective, and if it got out, it could cause trouble.
“After all, I’m not as skilled in Eight Gates as you are, Might Dai. In the future, you’ll have to personally teach Guy more in this area,” Muzuki brought out his ultimate move.
He had already figured out how to handle the Might Guy father-son duo. To get money from Might Guy, he had to start with Might Duy. To make Might Duy listen, he had to start with Might Guy.
Since Muzuki had said this much, Might Duy wasn’t one to be indecisive and swallowed it whole.
Might Duy quickly felt a little warmth, which slowly spread throughout his body until he felt an unprecedented lightness.
Might Duy knew he owed Muzuki again. This certainly wasn’t a simple secret medicine; its effect was too strong, almost instantaneous.
He felt that if he could take more of this secret medicine, his strength, which had been difficult to improve, could be further enhanced.
“Might Dai, try to stay at home tomorrow. The Sandaime will likely want to see your strength with his own eyes. If needed, I will send a Shadow Clone to find you,” Muzuki reminded him.
Might Duy nodded and gave a thumbs-up, indicating there was no problem.
“The tea is ready.” Might Guy jogged over and poured tea for Muzuki and Might Duy.
After drinking a cup, Muzuki said goodbye and left.
“He really only chatted for a bit, huh?” Might Guy scratched his head, watching Muzuki’s retreating figure.
“Dad, did Teacher Muzuki want something?”
Might Guy asked curiously.
“Haha, it’s something very amazing and very youthful. When it’s done, it will definitely shock you, Guy,” Might Duy laughed after drinking the hot tea.
Muzuki had told him not to tell Might Guy before the results came out, saying that it wasn’t 100% guaranteed to succeed, so as not to disappoint Might Guy if it didn’t work out after telling him.
“What’s so mysterious?” Might Guy became even more curious.
There should be more later
