Chapter Index

“Obito, you’re late again,” Kakashi said, looking at Uchiha Obito, who had run over in a hurry, his voice filled with displeasure.

“You should get up earlier, instead of making everyone wait for you.”

“I got up very early, but I was late because a Grandma asked me for directions on the way,” Uchiha Obito explained.

“Your excuse never changes,” Kakashi said speechlessly. Uchiha Obito had been using that same excuse ever since he was in Ninja Academy.

“Because it’s the truth,” Uchiha Obito said, unconvinced.

“Kakashi, sometimes you have to trust your teammates. I think Uchiha Obito really did go to help a Grandma, and wasn’t just late making an excuse,” Muzuki said with a smile.

“Are there really that many elderly people who need help?” Kakashi remained skeptical.

“Could it be that Uchiha Obito’s youth is about helping the elderly?” Might Guy showed a thoughtful expression.

“Why do you make doing good deeds sound so strange?” Uchiha Obito couldn’t help but complain. He just simply helped when he saw someone who needed it.

“Alright, since everyone is here, let’s go to the Hokage Building to pick up a mission,” Muzuki said.

Most Konoha and Ninja-related matters basically required going to the Hokage Building.

“What kind of mission will it be? Protecting our country’s princess? Or defeating the enemy leader?” Uchiha Obito looked at the tall Hokage Building, a look of longing appearing on his face.

“What are you thinking? How could an Intern Ninja like you, who isn’t even a true Ninja, get a mission of that level?” Kakashi mercilessly shattered Uchiha Obito’s fantasy.

“Genin can only take D-Rank missions to C-Rank Missions. You Intern Ninja are at most on par with Genin, and what you’re talking about can only be S-rank Missions, which only Jonin are allowed to take due to their extreme difficulty.”

Kakashi had been a Ninja for several years and was already familiar with Konoha’s mission rules. In his estimation, Uchiha Obito and the others probably couldn’t even take C-Rank Missions and could only do D-Rank missions.

“What kind of D-Rank missions are there?” Uchiha Obito asked.

“Catching cats, catching dogs, cleaning up trash, taking care of children,” Kakashi replied.

“Isn’t that just doing odd jobs?” Uchiha Obito was shocked. It was completely different from the Ninja life he had imagined.

    Slap!

“You have to take missions one step at a time,” Muzuki said, tapping Uchiha Obito’s forehead.

Muzuki also had some expectations in his heart, but he wasn’t looking forward to doing missions. He didn’t yearn for the life of a Ninja at all. He was just looking forward to whether his disciples would receive rewards for completing missions.

“Why aren’t those two wearing headbands?” The Registration Ninja, seeing that Uchiha Obito and Might Guy didn’t have headbands, asked.

“Please take out your intern permits,” Muzuki said.

Intern Ninja were not issued headbands, but they were given an Intern Ninja certificate, which served as a temporary headband.

“Oh, so they’re Intern Ninja. Then they can only take D-Rank missions. Please choose from these,” the Registration Ninja said, unrolling a scroll for Muzuki to choose from.

Hiruzen Sarutobi had already issued a notice in advance that a group of Intern Ninja would be doing missions recently and should be treated as newly graduated Genin.

Uchiha Obito and Might Guy both leaned in to look.

“Finding lost pet cats, helping to take care of a three-year-old child, cleaning up Training Ground trash…” Uchiha Obito found that they were indeed all odd jobs. Kakashi hadn’t lied to him.

“Then let’s take this one, finding a lost pet cat,” Muzuki said after a quick glance.

Taking care of a child would definitely take a full day, so that one was immediately ruled out. The others were more or less the same.

“We can get five thousand ryo just for finding a cat!” Might Guy exclaimed in shock after seeing the reward for finding the cat.

He remembered that when his father didn’t haggle, meat was only one hundred ryo per jin, so five thousand ryo could buy fifty jin of meat.

“It’s not five thousand ryo per person; it’s five thousand ryo total,” Muzuki explained to prevent Might Guy from misunderstanding.

“Five thousand ryo divided among four people is still a lot,” Might Guy said excitedly.

“Indeed, a bowl of ramen only costs sixty ryo. Finding a cat once means we can eat more than twenty bowls of ramen,” Uchiha Obito agreed.

Although doing odd jobs made him feel underestimated, he felt the mission rewards were decent.

Seeing Might Guy and Uchiha Obito so excited, Muzuki temporarily didn’t break their beautiful fantasy. Sharing equally was certainly impossible; generally, the captain would get more, and Konoha would also take taxes.

However, Muzuki didn’t care about money, so he was willing to share it equally.

“Guy, Kakashi, want to have a competition to see who can complete the mission first?” Uchiha Obito suggested.

“Yosh! Fiery youth should be full of challenges!” Might Guy agreed enthusiastically.

“A boring competition,” Kakashi was indifferent to it.

“Kakashi, are you perhaps afraid of losing to us? After all, it would be quite embarrassing for a Chunin to lose to an Intern Ninja,” Uchiha Obito provoked.

Although he knew it was a taunt, coming from Uchiha Obito’s mouth, Kakashi felt very uncomfortable, so he replied with a cold expression:

“I’m just worried about discouraging a newcomer like you.”

“It’s not certain who will discourage whom,” Uchiha Obito said, indicating he would wait and see.

“Alright, the first Muzuki Class Cat-Finding Competition officially begins now!” Muzuki announced with a chuckle.

“Start, start! Whoever finds the cat first wins!” Might Guy shouted excitedly.

Kakashi glanced at Muzuki, his mood a little subtle. He felt that this Ninja Academy teacher was quite different from every previous sensei he had experienced.

Because of Uchiha Obito’s provocation, Kakashi became exceptionally serious, creating several Shadow Clones to search for the cat described in the mission.

Might Guy, on the other hand, treated this mission as training, swiftly running to various corners to find the cat’s whereabouts.

Uchiha Obito, seeing Kakashi use Shadow Clones, also created two Shadow Clones to search for the cat.

All three seemed full of motivation.

However, to Kakashi’s surprise, in less than an hour, Uchiha Obito found the cat described in the mission.

“Hehe, looks like I won!” Uchiha Obito proudly announced, holding up a slightly plump orange cat with both hands.

“Meow!” The sudden lift startled the orange cat, which immediately used a furious flurry of scratches on Uchiha Obito, causing him to instinctively let go.

But before the orange cat could hit the ground, a hand swiftly grabbed the orange cat by the scruff of its neck, making it dare not move rashly again.

“What a half-assed job,” Kakashi said, shaking his head at Uchiha Obito while holding the orange cat.

“No matter how half-assed, I still found it first,” Uchiha Obito said, unconvinced.

“Just a stroke of luck,” Kakashi thought Uchiha Obito was just lucky to have encountered it first, which didn’t prove anything.

“Very good, the mission was completed quickly. Let’s go take another mission,” Muzuki said upon seeing this.

Muzuki then took his disciples to the Hokage Building to hand in the mission.

“Completed so quickly?” The Registration Ninja was also a bit surprised. Catching a cat was not an easy task. First, Konoha was very large and difficult to search, and those cats that often ran away were very cunning, not only fast but also agile, making them truly hard to catch.

【Disciple Might Guy diligently completed the commissioned mission, gaining Chakra +10. Led by the teacher personally, an additional reward of Chakra +5 is granted.】

【Disciple Uchiha Obito diligently completed the commissioned mission, gaining Chakra +10. Led by the teacher personally, an additional reward of Chakra +5 is granted.】

“Thirty Chakra in fifty-odd minutes, that’s much faster than classes,” Muzuki thought to himself, looking at the rewards.

A morning of his small classes only yielded twenty Chakra, while large classes yielded a bit more, forty points.

It wasn’t necessary to complete every mission within an hour. As long as they did two D-Rank missions in a morning, the Chakra income for a morning would be equivalent to three small classes.

This was still without Shisui participating. If Shisui had also joined, it would be forty-five Chakra per mission, and the income would increase even further.

“Still, it can’t completely replace classes. Even if all three disciples have bonuses, it’s only fifteen points combined, and continuously having students do missions without training would affect rewards like disciple cultivation, master cultivation, and mission rewards.”

Muzuki thought it over and felt that the mission rewards were just an extra bonus, at least at the current reward rate.

“Let’s take another mission to find a lost item,” Muzuki said, glancing at the mission scroll.

“Kakashi, aren’t you unconvinced? Then let’s compete again and see who finds the lost item first, how about it?” Uchiha Obito challenged again.

“You won’t necessarily have such good luck this time,” Kakashi immediately agreed. He didn’t believe that with his experience, he would keep losing to Uchiha Obito.

“Everyone is so motivated!” Might Guy also became hot-blooded, preparing to go all out to find the lost item.

“The Muzuki Class Lost Item Finding Competition officially begins now!” Muzuki announced with a smile.

Uchiha Obito, who wanted to keep winning against Kakashi; Kakashi, who wanted to turn the tables; and Might Guy, who was very diligent for some unknown reason—all three quickly sprang into action, wanting to be the first to complete the mission.

Kakashi still employed the Shadow Clone tactic. This time, he created even more clones. Each clone didn’t retain much Chakra and had no combat ability, but they were more than capable of finding things.

Kakashi simply couldn’t believe it; he and eleven Shadow Clones acting separately couldn’t possibly lose to Uchiha Obito and his two clones. Even good luck had its limits.

About an hour later, something unexpected happened to Kakashi.

“Done! Sorry, Kakashi, I won again this time,” Uchiha Obito said, holding a box and a bag.

Kakashi, after dispelling his Shadow Clones: …

“What’s in that bag? Weren’t there only boxes for lost items?” Might Guy asked curiously.

“It’s handmade pastries. I ran into that Grandma who asked for directions this morning while looking for the item, and she insisted on giving them to me as a reward,” Uchiha Obito said, scratching his head and laughing.

“I think they’ll taste really good, Muzuki Sensei, can you help me share them?”

After everyone finished the pastries, they went back to the Hokage Building to hand in the mission.

【Disciple Might Guy diligently completed the commissioned mission, gaining Chakra +8. Led by the teacher personally, an additional reward of Chakra +4 is granted.】

【Disciple Uchiha Obito diligently completed the commissioned mission, gaining Chakra +8. Led by the teacher personally, an additional reward of Chakra +4 is granted.】

“It’s even less? Is it because finding lost items is even simpler than catching cats?” Muzuki speculated now.

So Muzuki took another mission to catch a dog.

After Uchiha Obito and Might Guy set off, Muzuki called out to Kakashi and said:

“Kakashi, do you still think Uchiha Obito completing it quickly was just luck? Come with me.”
