Chapter Index

    “It failed.”

Twenty minutes after the results were announced, Muzuki still hadn’t seen any system messages, so he knew the outcome of the preliminary test.

The exams he designed wouldn’t work, or at least, exams with such short intervals between them wouldn’t work.

Muzuki could only regretfully abandon his plan of a small test every day and a big test every three days.

If the tests couldn’t yield rewards, then doing so would be meaningless and only make the students think he was crazy.

During his evening training, Shisui suddenly appeared in front of Muzuki, saying with a look of surprise, “Muzuki-sensei, I seem to have initially mastered the Shave.”

Immediately after, Shisui demonstrated the Shave twice in front of Muzuki.

After watching, Muzuki was already sure, but he still used appraisal on Shisui, and indeed, Shave was shown as ‘入門’ (Beginner Level).

“Mm, you’ve completed the training for this technique. Now, just get more familiar with it, and then you can continue learning other techniques,” Muzuki said, closing his panel and nodding.

He planned to teach Shisui some more Fire Release Ninjutsu to increase Shisui’s offensive capabilities.

Shisui learned Ninjutsu very quickly, so he could confidently let Shisui master more techniques.

As for Obito, Muzuki didn’t plan to teach him new Fire Release Ninjutsu for now. One Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique and one Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique were enough for the time being. If there were too many, Obito might suffer from decision paralysis during combat.

Muzuki looked at Might Guy, used appraisal on Might Guy, and found that Might Guy’s proficiency with Shave was still thirty points away from ‘入門’ (Beginner Level).

“In that case, it’ll take about another week to master,” Muzuki thought, closing his panel.

Muzuki looked at Might Guy, then at Obito, who was practicing speed-increasing techniques, and a good idea came to his mind.

When Might Guy and Obito trained together before, both of their movement techniques improved rapidly.

At that time, they were both practicing taijutsu, primarily to ensure they could hit Hyuga Homura while Hyuga Homura couldn’t hit them.

Now, they were essentially practicing the same thing, both training in Shave, although Obito hadn’t started training the complete Shave yet. In essence, they were both practicing Body Flicker Technique to improve speed.

Muzuki called Obito and Might Guy together and asked with a smile, “Do you feel that your current learning efficiency is a bit slow?”

Might Guy shook his head; he felt it was quite normal.

Obito’s eyes, however, lit up. Since Muzuki asked, he must have a way to help them improve their learning efficiency. So, Obito quickly replied, “Yes, Muzuki-sensei, your speed-increasing technique is too difficult. Do you have any methods for faster learning?”

“Yes, I do. It just depends on whether you want them,” Muzuki said, nodding.

“Yes, of course, we want them!” Obito looked at Muzuki with eager eyes.

He desperately wanted a faster learning method to master the speed-increasing technique, complete the challenge early, and learn Shave.

“If I can master Shave quickly, I want it too,” Might Guy also couldn’t resist the temptation of quick mastery.

“That’s great. First, run a lap and show me your fastest speed,” Muzuki said with a gentle smile.

The two heard what Muzuki said, and although they were a bit puzzled, they both followed Muzuki’s instructions, bursting forth with all their might to demonstrate their maximum speed.

Muzuki silently timed them, getting a rough understanding of their speeds.

Muzuki then said, “In that case, let’s have a competition to see who can break their own maximum speed first.”

“For every half-second slower than your maximum speed, you’ll do five more problems. For every half-second faster than your maximum speed, you’ll do five fewer. The first person to reach the finish line will do thirty fewer problems. Everyone starts with forty problems,” Muzuki said after thinking for a moment, stating the rules of the competition.

“Since your speeds are different, Guy, your course will be slightly longer.”

Might Guy was already close to mastering Shave, while Obito hadn’t even started learning the true Shave. If the course were the same, Obito wouldn’t even need to compete; he’d just be doing problems all the time.

“Huh?” Obito was dumbfounded. He hadn’t expected Muzuki’s fast learning method to be such terrifying training that would give him nightmares at night.

As soon as he heard these rules, he felt like he was back in the combat training during the exam preparation period—the familiar punishment mechanism, the familiar starting debt. If they fast-forwarded a bit, they’d enter the installment payment phase.

“Muzuki-sensei, actually, I think the current efficiency is already quite high,” Obito said, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, trying to salvage the situation.

Might Guy also showed an agreeing expression and said, “I think so too.”

It had only been less than a month since they escaped combat-problem-solving, and Might Guy didn’t want to return to the days of solving problems every day.

“Alright then, I thought you’d like a training method that combines theory and practical combat,” Muzuki showed a disappointed expression, seeming a bit sad.

“I even specifically prepared the theoretical knowledge you’ll learn next semester. I guess I’ll just have to use it when next semester starts.”

Obito felt a little bad. He had similar experiences where an idea he painstakingly came up with for his comrades was easily rejected.

“Thinking about it carefully, Muzuki-sensei, your idea is indeed good. It can both strengthen speed and increase theoretical knowledge,” Obito said, tears welling up inside, to comfort Muzuki.

Even if it meant doing problems, he couldn’t let Muzuki-sensei be disappointed.

“Youth is about more training and more problems!” Might Guy also couldn’t bear to see Muzuki’s sad face and quickly changed his tune, but then, thinking of the days ahead, he couldn’t help but burst into tears.

“Then get ready, and let’s start the competition,” Muzuki said, his gentle smile returning.

Seeing Muzuki’s usual warm smile return, Obito breathed a sigh of relief, then wanted to slap himself hard twice.

“Why are you so eager to chime in? If you hadn’t responded to Muzuki-sensei when he first brought up training efficiency, none of this would have happened,” Obito cursed inwardly.

But since things had come to this, Obito had no choice. Since the competition was unavoidable, the only thing to do was to minimize his losses in the competition.

Breaking the maximum speed by half a second could reduce five problems. While that sounded good, breaking the limit was not that simple.

On the other hand, being the first to reach the finish line could reduce thirty problems at once, which was the greatest reduction in problems, and it didn’t necessarily require breaking the limit.

Obviously, what Obito could think of, Might Guy could also think of. Regardless, the person who reached the finish line first would be the most comfortable.

The two looked at each other, seeing endless fighting spirit in each other’s eyes.

In it, there was not only a desire for victory but also a fear of the problems.

Muzuki first outlined the running route and the finish line for the two, then stood at a position where both could clearly hear his voice.

    “Ready, GO!” Muzuki shouted loudly.

The moment he heard Muzuki shout “GO,” Obito immediately burst into extreme speed without looking back, charging forward with all his might, even using his last ounce of strength.
