Chapter Index

“I’m not Uchiha’s dead last! I ranked third in the last Grade Level Practical Exam!”

Obito, seeing that Kakashi’s impression of him was still stuck before he studied with Muzuki, immediately blurted out his last exam score.

“If third place counts as dead last, then wouldn’t only two people in the entire grade not be dead last? Besides, I was careless last time; next time, I’ll definitely be first!” Obito said, unconvinced.

Kakashi was slightly stunned. Third place in the grade certainly didn’t count as dead last. Thinking about Obito’s performance in the Youth Ninjutsu Competition, he felt that third place was quite normal.

However, Kakashi couldn’t stand Obito’s arrogant demeanor, so he said,

“I really don’t know if third place counts as dead last, because I’ve always taken first place, so I don’t know what third place feels like.”

Obito opened his mouth, finding himself unable to refute, because it was the truth. Kakashi had absolute dominance in Ninja Academy when he was a student, always taking first place.

“Oh, by the way, was your theory exam third? My theory exam was also first.” Kakashi added, rubbing it in.

Obito felt an arrow pierce his heart. Theory was his eternal pain. Forget third place, he barely passed even with Muzuki’s tutoring.

Although his theory scores were truly bad, Obito wouldn’t admit it when facing Kakashi, so he stubbornly said,

“I didn’t sleep well the night before the last theory exam, so I scored a little worse than the practical, but this time will definitely be different!”

“How much worse is ‘a little worse’? You didn’t even pass, did you?” Kakashi, who understood Obito very well, deliberately said.

As he expected, Obito immediately blurted it out himself.

“No, I just barely passed!” Obito retorted. This was his first time passing, after all.

“Barely passing is a little worse than third place, and your ‘little’ is quite big.” Kakashi said, a smile appearing on his face.

Obito fell silent. If he could become Hokage, he would definitely issue an order to abolish the Ninja Academy’s theory exams; they were too tormenting.

“Obito has been working very hard recently, you know. I see him studying every day, and his final exam scores might improve by leaps and bounds.” Rin Nohara spoke up for Obito.

Obito, who had been somewhat downcast, instantly recovered, feeling that the world was so beautiful.

Looking at the gradually receding figures of Might Guy and Shisui, they even seemed a bit cute.

“Wait, Guy and Shisui are training, and I’m here bickering with Kakashi, wasting time?” Obito suddenly thought of a problem.

As one grows and the other stays stagnant, Might Guy would definitely become stronger than him, and then he would have even more problems to solve, and even less time to play with Rin Nohara.

“Playing with Rin means more problems to solve, and more problems to solve means less time to play with Rin. Therefore, playing with Rin means less time to play with Rin.” Obito’s mind came up with this somewhat strange logical chain.

Obito was a little confused as to why Might Guy and Shisui were training together at night.

One of them was from his clan, and the other was his classmate. How did he feel like an outsider?

Obito recalled for a moment and realized that they had indeed called him, but he had refused because he wanted to go play with Rin.

Obito was very conflicted at this moment, wondering how he could solve this problem. Then he saw Kakashi, and an idea blossomed.

No matter how much he denied it or how stubborn he was, Obito had to admit in his heart that Kakashi was truly amazing.

He graduated at five and became a Chunin at six. While they were still in their second year at Ninja Academy, Kakashi had already been promoted to Chunin, on the same level as the school’s teachers.

If he could learn something from Kakashi, he might gain an advantage in his battles with Might Guy.

“Kakashi, if your opponent is faster and stronger than you, how would you deal with it?” Obito asked Kakashi.

“Create distance and then use Ninjutsu.” Kakashi replied.

“Under circumstances where only Taijutsu can be used.” Obito added a condition.

“Why wouldn’t I use Ninjutsu if I can?” Kakashi refused to answer.

Obito scratched his scalp, roaring inwardly, ‘Damn Kakashi!’

“Because at that time, your Chakra is almost gone, and you can’t use Ninjutsu.” Obito thought for a moment and said.

    “Then confront him head-on.”

“Why? If both strength and speed are disadvantages, how can you possibly win by confronting him head-on?” Obito was very confused.

“That way you can die more gloriously. Do you think Taijutsu doesn’t require Chakra?” Kakashi retorted impolitely.

Obito was a little frantic. This hateful Kakashi completely refused to play by the rules.

Feeling that he had teased him enough, Kakashi finally said,

“Since your physical strength and speed are inferior to the enemy’s, then you must focus on movement and technique.”

“So-called combat is nothing more than how I hit the enemy and how I prevent the enemy from hitting me. Movement can allow you to evade the enemy’s attacks and avoid injury, and stronger techniques can compensate for a lack of strength when attacking.”

Obito felt that what Kakashi said made a lot of sense, but it also seemed like he hadn’t said anything at all.

Thinking carefully, he had already heard similar words from Muzuki.

“Are you participating in some competition where only Taijutsu can be used, and someone is stronger than you?” Kakashi speculated.

“It’s not a competition, it’s a practical exam. Both of my strong rivals specialize in Taijutsu.” Obito didn’t tell Kakashi the truth.

He felt that if Kakashi knew it was a punishment of solving problems for fighting, he might not help him and instead laugh while watching him solve them.

“If you truly want to improve your Taijutsu, I don’t mind helping you, but I’m afraid you can’t handle the hardship.” Kakashi said.

“The one thing I, Uchiha Obito, am least afraid of is hardship.”

Hearing Kakashi’s words, Obito smiled. What hardship could be worse than solving a hundred problems for one battle? My suffering is above yours, Kakashi.

Then Kakashi took the two of them to a nearby Training Ground.

“Next, I will fight you without using Ninjutsu, but I won’t hold back. Are you sure you want me to train you?” Kakashi asked one last time.

“Just use your full power.” Obito said with an indifferent expression.

He just wanted to test Kakashi’s strength.

Undoubtedly, Kakashi was more skilled in Ninjutsu, so Obito felt that in a pure Taijutsu duel, the gap shouldn’t be too large.

“Alright, then I’ll begin.” Seeing Obito say that, Kakashi decided to grant Obito’s wish.

The next instant, Kakashi directly used Body Flicker Technique to appear in front of Obito, kicking the still-unresponsive Obito flying.

Obito, who had just been chatting with Rin Nohara, was a bit dazed. He patted the dust off his body and said,

“I was careless and didn’t dodge. Continue.”

A minute later, Obito’s body was covered in dust, with several shoe prints on him.

Because Rin Nohara was watching nearby, even though he fell several times in a minute, Obito could still pretend to be relaxed as he stood up and shouted, “Continue.”

Rin Nohara looked at the two who had entered their rhythm, a little hesitant to speak. She felt a bit redundant here.
