Chapter Index

Ring, ring, ring! Fourth period dismissed.

Jiang Nian, who had conveniently skipped the entire class, walked out of the empty cafeteria with a satisfied look, patting his stomach, moving against the flow of students rushing for food in the sunlight.

The golden sun pierced through the lush leaves of the large old tree, casting dappled light onto the ping-pong table.

As he passed by, he couldn’t help but squint his eyes. He wondered why Old Liu was so concerned about Yu Tongjie, but at least he had managed to secure something.

The right to ask for leave from evening self-study once or twice a week.

Although there were many restrictions, requiring prior notification and photo check-ins, it wasn’t a problem for Jiang Nian.

Anyway, whether Yu Tongjie could pass the big joint exam at the end of the month was still unknown, so getting a leave was a bonus, and enjoying a second of comfort was a second of comfort.

Time flew, and it was evening. After three periods of evening self-study, Jiang Nian picked up his bag, pulled out his phone, and walked out. He casually went downstairs with the crowd, not stopping as he passed the third floor.

Xu Qianqian stood in the corridor outside the classroom, watching that familiar back of a head slowly disappear into the night crowd downstairs.

She pulled out her phone, wanting to ask something.

Suddenly, she realized that she had left early yesterday without explaining to him, and she didn’t know how to bring it up.

The habit of walking home together seemed to have only lasted two weeks.

She had never done this before; she had broken the routine first, and then there was no ‘then.’ She should have explained yesterday; would things return to normal today?

Xu Qianqian walked downstairs, her backpack on, lost in thought, and put on her headphones.

The noise temporarily receded from her, leaving only the looping album “Cicada Green” in her ears. By the time the first song finished, she had already walked out of the school gate.

Third song, or was it the fourth? Her Bluetooth earbud was taken off.

“Come here and pay for me.”

Amidst the streetlights of the night, in the dimly lit center of Zhennan Street. What she had just passed must have been a small convenience store, and a familiar yet annoying voice sounded beside her.

Xu Qianqian froze, then turned to look.

Jiang Nian pulled a bottle of iced coke from a large refrigerator, steam rising from the bottle. Under the glow of the lights, his face, which looked a little mischievous but exceptionally handsome, was illuminated.

He hadn’t gone far, had he?

Her lips twitched, “Don’t you have money yourself!”

Jiang Nian snapped his fingers, “You’ve discovered such a private matter; you don’t sleep with my bank card as a pillow at night, do you?”

“Call me daddy.” Xu Qianqian reluctantly scanned the code, a slight curve on her lips.

After paying for their friendship and reconciliation, the two naturally walked together.

The Bluetooth earbuds went from two to one, with the other hanging on Jiang Nian’s ear. There was no reason to return something snatched, and the free coke was the same.

With a ‘pshh’ sound, the coke was twisted open.

The streetlights on the sidewalk were dim, and the two walked side by side, backpacks on, about two fists apart.

Just as Jiang Nian was about to drink, he suddenly asked, “Can you drink ice today?”

    “Don’t pry into girls’ business.”

“Where are you thinking? I’m not secretly keeping track of your safe period and planning to deduce it; only a pervert would do that.”

Xu Qianqian turned, her face shocked, “Jiang Nian, do you have any shame?!”

“Holy crap, you’re selling human organs too? What a society.”

Xu Qianqian was speechless with him; as soon as she got involved with Jiang Nian, it was over. She constantly fell into a vortex of Life Qi and rage; people like him clearly didn’t get enough beatings when they were kids.

After a moment of silence, she cautiously spoke.

    “Didn’t you leave early today?”

“Because I picked up an incredibly huge branch on the way, and I forgot to show it to you.” Jiang Nian pulled a smooth branch from his open backpack, making Xu Qianqian’s eyelids twitch.

“What’s so special about it?” She was speechless, feeling a faint sense of disappointment.

Jiang Nian sneered, uttering two words, “It’s straight.”

    After returning home.

Xu Qianqian reached for her phone in the waterproof pouch while showering. In the steamy bathroom, her curvaceous, fair body was reflected, her small face flushed from the heat.

    “?”

    Jiang Nian: “?”

Xu Qianqian: “My phone died yesterday, it was off.”

    Edited, deleted.

What does this have to do with leaving without saying goodbye? He must have felt the same as her yesterday, right?

“I think puppy love hinders studying.”

    Deleted.

That’s not right either; there’s no such thing at all. It’s truly a ‘look once and get pregnant’ level of explosiveness, but it’s just her own psychological factors at play, and of course, she has no feelings for him.

After all, that’s Jiang Nian; being with him would definitely be so exhausting it would shorten her life.

“I think you have a crush on me, and it’s hindering your daddy’s studies, so I left first yesterday, sorry.”

With a whoosh, she sent it.

Across the hall, the Jiang family’s home.

“Holy crap.” Jiang Nian jumped out of bed, picked up his phone, and quickly replied, “Okay, okay, okay, good copy, stole it.”

The two chatted back and forth until midnight.

The chat content was unoriginal, with varying levels of aggression, but it was tacitly confined within a certain range.

Finally, Xu Qianqian sent a message.

“Tomorrow night, don’t leave after school, wait for me at the classroom door.”

She originally wanted to say, ‘I’ll give you a brick,’ but when she saw Jiang Nian reply ‘Okay,’ she couldn’t send it anymore.

Lying in bed, she stared blankly at the dark ceiling.

    The next day.

During morning reading, Ma Guojun left his seat and walked up to Jiang Nian, adjusting his glasses.

“Damn, it’s really straight! Where did you steal it?”

The boys around them were commenting on a straight branch, as if admiring the most beautiful courtesan of Jiangnan: ‘This chest, this waist, these legs, lustful, top-grade lustful.’

“I picked it up on the road, pretty awesome, right?” Jiang Nian was like a king being crowned, basking in infinite glory.

“Holy crap, I can’t even argue, I’m a student, give it to me.” Li Hua looked at the branch, unable to put it down. “The smoothness of this, Jiang Nian, you licked it last night, didn’t you?”

“It’s purely wild, if I touch it, I’ll die.” He said.

“Okay, okay, a celestial Divine Artifact.” Li Hua’s eyes gleamed, as thirsty as someone who hadn’t seen a woman in twenty years. “If I had this sword, there wouldn’t be a stray dog within ten miles.”

The boys from the next group also came over, “Let me touch it, it’s too incredible.”

The boys in the first group also lost interest in morning reading, all getting up to join the fun. Latercomers couldn’t even squeeze into the inner circle, only able to peek through the gaps.

“Long and straight, full of value.”

The group shouted loudly, and Zhang Ningzhi in the front seat secretly turned her head to look. A hint of confusion appeared in her eyes; it was just a branch, why were they all acting like monkeys?

Amidst the cheers, English teacher Ms. Qianbao walked in with a stern face.

A minute later, Ms. Qianbao, who was strolling around the classroom, had a straight and smooth branch in her hand. Everywhere she went, there were envious glances from the boys.

Ms. Qianbao had a sudden idea and went to the next class to patrol.

Listening to the exclamations of the boys in the next class, Li Hua and Jiang Nian were heartbroken, pounding on their desks.

“Damn it, the wound of betrayal never heals, this is a grudge for a stolen wife!”

Thanks to Ye Yang Weiming for the 2000 Qidian coins, thanks to Momo Mo S for the 400 Qidian coins, and Yan Yici for the 500 Qidian coins.

There are too many monthly votes, I can’t thank everyone enough. I can only thank all the bosses for their support; good waist, good kidneys.

I’ll write a few more words and save some drafts.
