Chapter Index

    Sixth floor, corner.

Yang and Huang, wearing only their briefs, squatted at the stairwell, peering down like mice.

Then they looked at each other, utterly bewildered.

    Good news: reinforcements had arrived.

Bad news: it was Jiang Nian and Cai Xiaoqing.

They didn’t have the keys, so the only hope was for them to go back and find the other roommate who had a key, or for Jiang Nian to help pick up the keys.

The question was, who would go?

The one who went to inform them would suffer the agony of social death, but the other would be spared.

They could falsely claim the other had gone downstairs early for breakfast or something else.

So, who would be the guinea pig?

Huang Cailang gritted his teeth, thinking, ‘A soldier is raised for a thousand days to be used for one moment. I’ll repay my lord’s kindness on the dining table, even if it means dying like a Dragon.’

He stood up and said loudly,

    “Brother, wait for me here.”

Yang Qiming was stunned, looking up at Huang Cailang in just his briefs.

    “Cailang, where are you going?”

Huang Cailang took two steps forward, his back tall and imposing. His briefs flapped in the wind, and his voice was sorrowful yet resolute.

“I’m going to find Jiang Nian and the Disciplinary Committee, and have them call someone to bring the keys.”

He turned back and glanced at Yang Qiming.

“Brother, you stay here. I’ll come back for you alone.”

Yang Qiming understood. Huang Cailang was planning to self-destruct, sacrificing himself to preserve his own reputation. This way, only one person would suffer social death.

“No, Cailang! I won’t allow it!”

“Brother, no need for more words of persuasion.” Huang Cailang waved his hand, refusing, and sighed, “If I don’t go to Hell, who will? It’s fine.”

In reality, Yang Qiming only put on a brave front for a moment.

The thought of social death in front of the Disciplinary Committee made him completely wilt.

Although Cai Xiaoqing was a bit fierce, she was still a pretty girl after all.

Others might be afraid, but Yang Qiming wasn’t really. His family was quite well-off, and he had more awareness and courage than most of his classmates.

After graduation, could Cai Xiaoqing still be fierce?

Definitely not, she’d be in jail.

Of course, these were just Yang Qiming’s thoughts. If it were someone else, even Nie Qiqi, he wouldn’t want to lose face in front of them.

Who knew if they might have a connection in the future?

“Cailang, my good brother!” Yang Qiming was deeply moved and reciprocated, “There’s nothing else to say. I’ll cover all the meals this week. We’ll eat well and drink well!”

Hearing this, Huang Cailang’s eyes lit up.

Brother Yang never lied. If he said they’d eat well and drink well, he definitely wouldn’t fob them off with cafeteria food! It would truly be good food and drink!

Thinking of the good life this week, his stomach immediately felt warm, and his eyes welled up with tears.

“Brother! A scholar dies for his confidant!”

Boys are like that: if you offer me a hundred yuan, I can’t take it. But if you say you’ll pay for my lunch for a week, then tell me if you prefer white stockings or black stockings.

    Anyway, just come on, brother.

    Inside the fifth-floor corridor.

Jiang Nian suddenly stopped, looked back at the deep corridor, and asked,

    “Did you hear something?”

The dormitory building was utterly silent. Cai Xiaoqing was focused on finding the dorm room, but his words startled her, and goosebumps immediately rose on her back.

    “What?”

Jiang Nian quickly walked a few steps towards her, lowering his voice and saying eerily,

“It seems… someone is watching us.”

Hearing this, Cai Xiaoqing’s face turned pale.

“Don’t say such scary things. Is it Yang Qiming and the others?”

It was only 7:30 in the morning, and the dorm corridor was long and dark, filled with a damp Qi, giving it a truly eerie feeling.

“I don’t know. I heard a little sound.” Jiang Nian shrugged.

Cai Xiaoqing looked nervous, swallowing hard.

    “What sound?”

Although she knew this scoundrel might be lying, the atmosphere was certainly building. Even without Jiang Nian’s words, she had heard some rustling sounds.

Humans are naturally afraid of the unknown.

“Nothing, maybe I misheard.” Jiang Nian said, “Currently, all the dorm rooms here are locked, meaning there’s no one in the dorms.”

“But it’s not guaranteed that they’re not still in the dorm building, so let’s split up and look.”

Cai Xiaoqing listened to his two sentences, which were almost as foolish as lines in a horror movie. How could she not know he was doing it on purpose? She was instantly furious.

    “You can’t go anywhere!”

    “Is this forced love?”

“…” Cai Xiaoqing looked at Jiang Nian, regretting bringing him along. “If we can’t find them, forget it. Let’s go back and tell the homeroom teacher.”

She was an extremely calm person. Looking for people was only out of class camaraderie. For example, if no one was checked during morning reading, then finding them would be as if it never happened.

But if they couldn’t be found before eight o’clock, then they could only go to the homeroom teacher.

    Fifth floor corner.

Huang Cailang, who was secretly watching them, grew anxious. What was going on?

    They were just leaving?

He had just wanted to call them over, but then he felt a bit embarrassed, as he was only in his briefs. It wouldn’t matter if they were all boys, but Cai Xiaoqing was there.

He was trying to figure out how to attract Jiang Nian’s attention, but ended up scaring them away.

Then he heard them say they were leaving, and even going to tell the homeroom teacher!

    No!

They couldn’t leave! If they left, the homeroom teacher would bring people… no, it was very likely they would bring teachers to look for them, or even call their parents.

The thought of that scene sent a cold sweat down Huang Cailang’s back.

He instinctively wanted to run back and ask Brother Yang, who was waiting on the sixth floor, but seeing Cai Xiaoqing and Jiang Nian about to leave, a flash of inspiration struck him.

He made a mouth shape, and immediately produced sounds that did not belong to the living world.

    They were vivid and lifelike.

“What sound?” Cai Xiaoqing jumped, looking back at the end of the corridor.

“Someone, I guess. I’ll go check.” Jiang Nian wasn’t as timid as her. What could happen in broad daylight? Could he run into a naked pervert masturbating?

“No, don’t go!” Cai Xiaoqing pulled him back, pointing to the other stairwell. “Let’s go downstairs from that side. Let’s get down first.”

Hearing this, Huang Cailang grew anxious. How could that work?

So he ran wildly upstairs, planning to run from the sixth floor to the fifth-floor corridor entrance, blocking them and repeating his trick.

His goal was, of course, to buy time and keep them in the middle.

Yang Qiming had been squatting nicely at the stairwell, calmly waiting for good news from his brother. But he inexplicably heard a gust of howling wind and was terrified.

Seeing Huang Cailang rush up, he looked panicked and couldn’t help but ask,

    “Cailang, did you hear something?”

Huang Cailang was busy marching quickly, trying to reach the other stairwell on the fifth floor before Cai Xiaoqing and Jiang Nian. He had no time to reply, only mumbling,

    “Brother Yang, we’ll talk later.”

Yang Qiming watched, puzzled, as Huang Cailang ran wildly as if possessed, and then glanced at the peeling paint in the sixth-floor corridor.

Dormitory Building Five for boys was a bit special; the sixth floor was vacant.

No one usually lived there, and it looked eerie in the evening.

It was fine in the morning, but as certain thoughts arose in Yang Qiming’s mind, the feeling immediately came over him. He glanced at the corridor and felt a chill.

As if on cue, a cold wind blew past his ear.

That faint, terrifying sound rang out again, like a heavy hammer striking his heart, squeezing his throat tight.

    Holy crap!

    There… there…

Yang Qiming broke out in goosebumps, regretting not calling Cailang back. If he had a companion right now, he definitely wouldn’t be so scared.

If his brother were here, he could also save him from distress.

“Did you hear that?” Cai Xiaoqing’s scalp tingled, and she froze in the middle of the corridor. “It’s the same sound as before, this time—”

Jiang Nian turned to look at the pale-faced Cai Xiaoqing, reassuring her,

“Don’t be afraid. I’ll go see what the ghost looks like up ahead.”

Hearing this, Cai Xiaoqing was almost numb.

This person was truly a living devil!

She turned around to see Jiang Nian actually walking forward, and her heart instantly leaped into her throat. After hesitating for a few seconds, she gritted her teeth and followed him.

Jiang Nian turned the corner earlier and was immediately struck by what he saw.

Huang Cailang, in just his briefs, looked embarrassed and waved at him.

If it were Cai Xiaoqing, seeing this bizarre scene, she would probably be scared to death on the spot.

“Don’t let her come over! No!!!” Huang Cailang kept waving his hands.

Jiang Nian also realized that he shouldn’t let Cai Xiaoqing come over, so he immediately turned to look at Cai Xiaoqing, who was not far behind him, and said seriously,

    “Stop!”

Cai Xiaoqing’s heart instantly jumped, and her pupils contracted sharply.

    “Wh-what’s wrong?”

“Never mind, just stand there.” Jiang Nian was serious, his expression extremely stern. “Don’t come over unless I tell you to.”

She was stunned by Jiang Nian’s serious expression, and at the same time, certain things in her mind were “verified.”

    “What did you see?”

Jiang Nian didn’t know how to answer, so he vaguely brushed her off.

    “You wouldn’t want to know.”

Cai Xiaoqing was even more startled, but at the same time, she didn’t know what to do.

“Do you want me to help you?”

“No, you stand there and don’t worry about anything.” Jiang Nian was afraid she might come over by herself, so he threatened, “One look and your life will be over.”

Huang Cailang listened, dumbfounded, thinking that Jiang Nian was pretty awesome too.

He could even tell the Disciplinary Committee what to do?

Seeing Jiang Nian turn his head, he lowered his voice and said concisely,

“Find Duan Hongtao and have him bring the dorm keys to save us!”

Hearing this, although Jiang Nian didn’t know where Yang Qiming was, he roughly guessed their situation.

    “Alright.”

After they had communicated, Jiang Nian took Cai Xiaoqing in another direction.

    “It’s resolved.”

“What do you mean?” Cai Xiaoqing somewhat caught on, and only asked after they had completely left the dorm building, “Did they hide?”

“More or less. Anyway, they’ll come back on their own later.” Jiang Nian didn’t elaborate.

Cai Xiaoqing hummed, maintaining her aloof image, but her curiosity grew stronger.

All those who blue-ball go to Hell!

Yang Qiming was getting anxious and suddenly needed to use the restroom.

A cold wind blew, and his stomach started rumbling.

    “No way!”

No sooner said than done, Huang Cailang crawled out from the gloomy sixth-floor corridor. He was afraid of making a sound and disturbing Cai Xiaoqing, who was going downstairs.

So he adopted a serpentine, circuitous route, and his silent steps were even quieter!

The corridor was already dark, and this scene, in Yang Qiming’s eyes, looked like he was encountering a ghost. He let out a shriek, almost fainting from fright.

It wasn’t until Huang Cailang stood in front of him, excitedly saying,

    “Great, Brother, we’re saved.”

Yang Qiming glanced at Huang Cailang’s shadow, then silently checked if his heels were lifted, and only relaxed when he saw nothing unusual.

“That’s good, but Cailang, I really need to use the restroom right now. Did you bring any toilet paper?”

Huang Cailang looked down at his own briefs, then at Yang Qiming, who was also bare in just his briefs, and couldn’t help but scratch his head and ask,

“Brother, if I say I brought some, guess where I hid it?”

Yang Qiming’s gaze shifted downwards, a thought forming in his mind, and he said,

    “Cailang, I understand you.”

Huang Cailang was a bit confused, letting out an “Ah?”

    “Brother, understand what?”

“Ahem, my cousin used to like working as a cashier at night.” Yang Qiming was a bit embarrassed. “After he finished cashing out, he liked to put a few pieces of paper down before going to bed.”

Hearing this, Huang Cailang’s eyes widened.

    “Huh?”

Seeing that Huang Cailang didn’t understand his humor, Yang Qiming waved his hand.

“Never mind, I’ll hold it in for a bit.”

    On the other side.

On his way back to the classroom, Jiang Nian also bought some snacks. Following the principle of sharing, he casually gave some to Cai Xiaoqing.

His own pockets were all filled, and upon returning to his seat, he started distributing goodies.

    “Here.”

    Morning reading hadn’t ended yet.

Zhang Ningzhi was using the last ten minutes to do her homework. She looked up and saw a rain of snowflake crisps falling from the sky.

Plop, plop, they fell all around.
