Chapter Index

The residential building where the Jiang family lived was a fifteen-minute walk from the school.

It was a ten-minute fast walk, or a seven-minute sprint.

Thanks to Jiang Nian’s excellent habit of leaving school on time and his tacit understanding with Xu Qianqian, even if they walked leisurely, it wouldn’t take them much time.

So, after he showered, he could still play on his device for half an hour before bed.

    “Hmm? Whose birthday is it?”

Jiang Nian had just come out of the shower and was drying his hair. He noticed that the birthday person seemed to be Yang Qiming, so he casually liked Lin Dong’s QQ post.

With a buzz, Lin Dong sent a message.

“LOL, Old Cousin Qiming got completely ripped off.”

    “How so?”

“His ex-girlfriend just broke up with him and immediately moved on to someone else without a gap.”

Lin Dong replied quickly, “He’s had a few drinks and is crying on the rooftop right now.”

Jiang Nian chuckled, typing a reply with one finger.

“Aren’t you going to comfort him?”

“Huang Cailang went, so I don’t need to,” Lin Dong sent a few emoji of children with their hands behind their backs, trying to hide his awkwardness.

“Even fish on land will smell fishy.”

    The next day, Friday.

They had impulsively decided to go to Zhennan Plaza to play ring toss yesterday, but it was postponed due to rain. After several rescheduling, they finally settled on this afternoon.

For this, he specifically rode his electric bike to school today.

    Olympiad Class Three classroom.

Jiang Nian was lie on his desk for a while when Zhang Ningzhi arrived.

Compared to yesterday, her face was clearly more flushed today. Perhaps it was also due to the rain stopping, as her lips were stained with a hint of pink that was neither sweet nor not sweet.

“Morning, I fell asleep last night.”

“Oh, I guessed,” Jiang Nian made room for her and casually asked, “Are you feeling better compared to yesterday?”

He provided a reference point, comparing it to yesterday. Compared to the discomfort that made her want to take leave, being able to attend class safely and painlessly today was a victory.

“Much better, it’s basically not affecting me anymore,” Zhang Ningzhi gave a positive answer, then began to tidy up the pristine white test papers that were distributed yesterday.

“Here, the drink I promised to bring you,” She placed a box of lemon tea on Jiang Nian’s desk. “Thank you for taking pictures of the test paper for me. This is your reward.”

“Thank you, Young Miss,” Jiang Nian grinned, taking the lemon tea. “I don’t know why, but I didn’t like this stuff at first, but the more I drink it, the more addicted I get.”

“I’m not… don’t call me such a strange title,” Zhang Ningzhi’s face was a little red.

    “Why?”

“It just feels weird,” Seeing his normal expression, Zhang Ningzhi became a little uncertain again, suspecting it was her own problem.

“Do boys really like this kind of title?”

“Not really, it’s just a joke,” Jiang Nian chatted casually. “Some people say it’s a compliment, some say it’s sarcasm, but what I say is definitely a positive term.”

Actually, he wanted to say that calling her Young Miss gave him a sense of coming out on top, like Emperor Fang in “Eternal Life.”

Of course, he didn’t want to be whipped three times; he was afraid his butt would hurt a bit.

“Um, the parent-teacher conference is the day after tomorrow.”

Hearing this, Jiang Nian turned to glance at her, not understanding why she paused there.

    “Ah, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, nothing, will you come to school to play this afternoon?” Zhang Ningzhi asked cautiously.

Jiang Nian pondered for a moment, rubbing his chin as he asked.

“How do you connect the words’school’ and ‘play’? They are two completely unrelated words, like Li Hua and puppy love.”

“Ah, because the parent-teacher conference is on Sunday afternoon, and I definitely have to be in the classroom,” Zhang Ningzhi’s gaze shifted elsewhere. “It’s so boring alone.”

In reality, she told a small lie.

Yao Beibei’s mother would attend this parent-teacher conference, and Ma Guojun’s parents would also come. No matter what, she would still have someone to talk to.

Their small group was only missing Jiang Nian, plus Li Hua.

“In that case, I’ll come too,” Jiang Nian finished the first half of the sentence, then added, “But I’m not sure if I can make it; we’ll see then.”

He habitually didn’t make promises too definite, in case he was sleepy on Sunday afternoon and wanted to nap. Or perhaps he was playing games, and might find an excuse not to go.

After all, a parent-teacher conference was just adults sitting inside, and kids standing outside in rows chatting.

    Boring.

    “Oh,” Zhang Ningzhi was happy.

The morning classes were dull, and everyone in the classroom was drowsy.

It wasn’t until after the second class, when the bell for the exercise run rang, that the class regained some vitality.

“You shouldn’t go down, I’ll ask Liu Yang to speak for you,” Jiang Nian pressed down Zhang Ningzhi, who was about to get up.

“Say your illness hasn’t fully recovered, and you’re a bit dizzy.”

In reality, it was not easy to ask for leave from the exercise run.

Because too many people faked illness, the requirements for leave were quite strict.

The system, when implemented, only deterred two types of people: those faking illness and those genuinely unwell.

For slackers and those with connections, it was almost meaningless.

However, the school leaders and Old Liu didn’t care, as long as enough people participated in the exercise run.

Zhang Ningzhi pursed her lips, accepting the kind offer.

    “Okay, thank you.”

“No need to thank me, it’s no trouble,” Jiang Nian finished speaking, then began to openly take off his clothes in the classroom.

Even though it was already November, he would still sweat after the exercise run.

If he wore too many clothes, it would not only be hot after running, but he would also easily catch a cold when the wind blew. Many in the class, like Jiang Nian, took off their clothes; most chose to take off their outer jackets.

Zhang Ningzhi had been watching him until Jiang Nian directly stripped off his hoodie. He pulled up his white undershirt, revealing his firm abdomen.

The sudden scene made her face instantly flush, and she immediately turned her head away.

An unavoidable thought appeared in her mind.

It would be great if he took it all off.

Such lewd and impure thoughts are almost the same for both men and women.

Especially for high school students with abundant hormones, the thoughts would be more direct.

After taking off his hoodie, Jiang Nian saw Zhang Ningzhi suddenly bury her head in her work. Thinking she was busy with her test paper, he threw his hoodie on the desk and left.

    Downstairs.

Li Hua, Ma Guojun, and the others went down first. Jiang Nian followed the Class Three flag and found Liu Yang to explain the situation.

“Alright, no problem,” Liu Yang patted his chest and agreed. “You don’t even need to ask for leave. There are no leaders inspecting today, so I’ll just not count anyone later.”

    “Good, thanks, brother.”

Jiang Nian returned to the exercise run formation and suddenly heard Chen Yunyun’s voice.

The two small groups of people were all squeezed in the back row, with two columns each for girls inside and boys outside, positioned close together.

“Team leader, why are your dark circles so heavy?”

Lin Dong waved his hand, “It’s nothing, I stayed up late studying last night.”

Under the sun, he looked up, squinting at the sun.

“Damn, why is the sky orange-red in the middle of the day?”

“The sky is blue, team leader,” Wang Yuhe said weakly, taking a step back. “Your eyes are so red. I have a great-grandfather who is over eighty…”

“Bah, bah! Can’t you think of something good for me?” Lin Dong rubbed his eyes and sighed.

“My life has been like walking on thin ice; can I still reach the other shore?”

Jiang Nian listened, amused, and leaned over to stand directly behind Lin Dong.

    “How many hundreds?”

Lin Dong coughed and held up two fingers.

    “Thousand Thousand Farewell Songs.”

“Awesome, how many more days will your eyes be red?” Jiang Nian asked curiously.

Jiang Nian had actually invested money in it too, but that was to cool Lin Dong down. It was less likely to get so carried away; small bets should be withdrawn when necessary.

“It’s the last night. I estimate there are still people going in after this,” Lin Dong said. “After I get out tomorrow, I’ll find a way to report him.”

“Okay,” Jiang Nian gave a thumbs up.

As expected of Class Three’s Math Representative, clear on public and private matters, with justice in his heart.

Chen Yunyun looked curiously at Jiang Nian. She had just heard them mumbling something. Even though it was all Chinese, she felt like she didn’t understand a single word.

“What are you guys talking about?”

He glanced at Chen Yunyun, “Saying how good your skin looks today, did you put on makeup?”

“No, haha,” Chen Yunyun foolishly touched her face, her dark pupils and white eyes clean. “Maybe it’s because I’ve been sleeping early lately. Hey, Yuhe. Have I really gotten whiter?”

Wang Yuhe looked at Chen Yunyun’s flawless oval face and nodded.

    “Mm.”

Jiang Nian leaned slightly, “If you help me buy a bottle of Sprite later, you’ll be even whiter.”

    “Alright, I’ll treat you.”

Three sentences, and the woman bought me a Sprite.

Jiang Nian was in a good mood. After going upstairs, he parted ways with Li Hua and the others who were getting water. He entered the classroom and returned to his seat, suddenly noticing that his hoodie on the desk was folded.

    He sat down, slightly surprised.

    “You folded it?”

Zhang Ningzhi was lie on her desk, revealing her pale neck.

    “Mm, just did it casually.”

This ‘casually’ was too cute. Jiang Nian said thank you. Then, holding the hoodie, he didn’t know where to put it and looked around, finding that all the desks were full of things.

    “Can your bag hold clothes?”

A paper bag hung on Zhang Ningzhi’s chair; she used it to store her school uniform. Since she only wore it once a week, she didn’t need to take it home.

    “Ah, yes.”

Her voice was a little shaky, and her movements to open the bag were not slow, but they seemed slightly stiff.

    “You can put it in.”

Although the school uniform wasn’t worn often, it would naturally mix with his hoodie when folded together. It was a bit like a wardrobe after living together.

“Okay, thanks,” Jiang Nian didn’t think much of it.

He just felt that it was a place to store school uniforms, and it was a waste to put only one piece of clothing in such a large bag. Since she didn’t mind, he just put it in.

Whoosh, the two pieces of clothing were folded together.

Zhang Ningzhi buried her head in her work, her heartbeat chaotic. It was like rolling in a muddy puddle, her wet heart embarrassed and ashamed to face it.

She could only bow her head deeply, pursing her lips to suppress her smile, so as not to gently tap the desk twice to vent the unspeakable shyness in her heart.

The long fluctuations of emotion only ended after the third class.

The fourth class in the morning was Biology.

Teacher Qingbao intended to train Jiang Nian, almost always calling on him whenever there was a question no one answered. By the end of the class, Jiang Nian had answered questions four times in a row.

Li Hua was curious and asked in a low voice.

“Did you offend the Biology Teacher?”

“You don’t know anything, this is called being her favorite,” Jiang Nian scoffed. “Just wait, she’ll summon me again after class.”

Li Hua pointed at him, mocking.

    “It’s from eating spicy strips.”

After class, Teacher Qingbao assigned homework and then added.

“Jiang Nian, come with me for a moment.”
