Chapter Index

As his voice fell, Liu Liangsong’s gaze lingered on Jiang Nian’s small area, his expression ashen.

“You won’t volunteer, so I have to call on you personally, huh!”

Zhang Ningzhi’s face was pale, probably having never been scolded by a teacher before. Her hands on the desk were trembling slightly, and the obedient child was about to stand up with her head down.

Jiang Nian kicked her chair, stopping Zhang Ningzhi’s movement. Then he was about to get up, but Li Hua, who was beside him, pulled him back, and then Li Hua stood up.

“Teacher, I report that Ma Guojun also spoke just now.”

    “Li Hua, what the hell!”

Ma Guojun cursed softly. The big Ma Guojun stood up, adjusted his glasses, and lowered his head. His mouth moved rapidly, probably muttering a sweet spell.

I am Slytherin, dark magic, this is dark magic.

Even after sacrificing two people, Liu Liangsong’s expression still hadn’t improved. Perhaps for fairness, his face darkened, and his gaze swept over Zhang Ningzhi’s area.

“Only boys? I clearly heard a girl’s voice. Will you stand up yourself, or should I call on you?”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi was almost scared to tears.

Then she heard Ma Guojun say, “Ahem, Yao Beibei, the teacher is calling you.”

“You—” Yao Beibei stood up, a sheepish smile on her face, “Teacher, I was reciting just now, and my voice was just a little bit loud.”

Liu Liangsong glanced at Yao Beibei and scoffed.

“You three, all of you, come out!”

The second evening self-study session ended.

Zhang Ningzhi followed behind Jiang Nian down the stairs, trailing him from the fourth floor. The stairwell was slightly narrow, the light not particularly bright, and figures were indistinct.

    “Where are we going?”

Li Hua, Yao Beibei, and Ma Guojun hadn’t returned from the office yet, and Zhang Ningzhi was worried about them. She planned to go to the office to check, and was about to ask Jiang Nian to come along.

Jiang Nian also seemed to have something to say, and their eyes met just as Zhang Ningzhi, mustering her courage, turned around from the front seat. He simply spoke, telling her to follow him after self-study.

Originally, she thought they were going to the office, but then realized they had left the teaching building.

“To buy water.” Jiang Nian turned back and paused for a moment, as if imparting wisdom, “Li Hua and the others bore the brunt of Old Liu’s anger. Let’s get them a bottle of water.”

“Oh.” Zhang Ningzhi was a little bewildered, quickly caught up, and said softly, “Just now… I originally wanted to stand up.”

“I saw it, but you’d better not.” Jiang Nian said, “I kicked your chair to tell you not to get up. I can stand up.”

    “Why?”

The two walked out with the crowded flow of people, quickly leaving the bright area of the teaching building, and the surroundings became dim.

“You just transferred to the class, you have good grades and you’re thin-skinned.” He turned to the girl walking beside him in the same row, the light from the teaching building reflecting in her bright and dark eyes.

“Suddenly being taken away by the teacher in a new class can easily leave a bad impression. You still have to stay for another year, how could you bear it? It doesn’t matter to me.”

“What about Yao Beibei, and Li Hua, Ma Guojun, and the others? Aren’t we betraying them like this?” Zhang Ningzhi was a little hesitant, even using the word ‘betrayal’.

“On the contrary, I originally wanted to stand up, but Li Hua pulled me back.” Jiang Nian said, “They didn’t expose us either, so now we’re going to buy water.”

    “What about them?”

“They have good grades and thick skin. They can even chat with other teachers in the office. It’s nothing.” Jiang Nian realized that Zhang Ningzhi seemed genuinely more oblivious to these matters.

Zhang Ningzhi cautiously glanced at Jiang Nian, noticing his straight, ice-pop-like shoulders and back. His nape was clean, his hair dark, and his expression was somewhat nonchalant.

Walking beside him, Zhang Ningzhi felt like she was clinging to a powerful figure. He was very patient, even with someone like her who knew nothing, he would slowly explain.

This feeling made her feel very secure, and she vaguely felt that she was about to make some friends in her new class.

    He’s so good at this.

Zhang Ningzhi asked curiously, “Are boys naturally good at making friends?”

Jiang Nian glanced at her, “Actually, not really. I have unique insights. I used to train for a while in the advanced class of the Friend-Making Academy.”

“Is there such a training class?” The girl gasped.

“Do you want to know how to make friends?” he asked.

    “Mm-hmm.”

As the convenience store got closer, Jiang Nian controlled his speed and spoke earnestly.

“The premise of making friends is mutual trust. For example, if I proactively scrub your back, you just need to say thank you, and not shout, ‘How did you get in here?’ or something like that.”

Zhang Ningzhi: “…In school, is there really no one you care about?”

Jiang Nian looked indifferent. He only messed around in front of acquaintances, because strangers would really think he was an idiot.

“Let’s go. We’ll each buy them a bottle, and remember to get one for yourself too.”

“Oh, oh.” She had just entered the crowded convenience store when she suddenly realized a problem, “Jiang Nian, what drinks do they like?”

“Just follow me. Two bottles of iced black tea, one bottle of pulpy orange juice.” He said, “I’ll drink Sprite. You see what you want to drink and just get one bottle.”

With a master helper, doing homework is fast, just copy the answers directly.

In the crowded convenience store, on the other side of the crowd.

Xu Qianqian was agonizing in the snack section, vaguely heard Jiang Nian’s voice, then suddenly turned around and realized it wasn’t him. She couldn’t help but frown, thinking to herself that Jiang Nian was truly infuriating.

“Qianqian, have you chosen?” Song Xiyun picked up a bag of potato chips.

    “Alright, this one. Let’s go.”

Ring, ring, ring. The bell for the third evening self-study session rang.

The staircase became crowded again, with a group of people pushing upwards. Zhang Ningzhi walked in front of Jiang Nian, always having a small safe zone. Upon reaching the fourth floor, they happened to meet the three coming out of the office.

Jiang Nian called out to them, then distributed the drinks one by one.

“A small token of my regard, my dear officials, one for each of you.”

“Thank you. You…” Zhang Ningzhi’s face was flushed, and she imitated him, “Beibei, this is yours.”

“So polite. Since it’s Guojiao, then I’ll accept it.” Li Hua and Ma Guojun grinned, taking the iced black tea from their hands.

These two walked into the classroom swaggering, each carrying a bottle in their left and right hands. One might have thought going to the office would trigger a drink-receiving procedure.

“Skipped a self-study session and even got drinks, a pure profit.” Li Hua exclaimed.

“If the homeroom teacher hadn’t kicked me out, I really would have wanted to stay for another self-study session.” Ma Guojun was a bit shameless, “Damn, Old Liu probably left early.”

Yao Beibei hugged two bottles of pulpy orange juice to her chest, her right arm around Zhang Ningzhi’s arm, vividly recounting her wonderful experience in the office.

Jiang Nian was the last to enter the classroom, carrying a bottle of Sprite. He saw that Zhang Ningzhi seemed to have bought herself a box of milk, holding it carefully in her hand.

In a flash, evening self-study ended. Jiang Nian went downstairs as usual to wait for Xu Qianqian to go home, only to find that she had already left.
