Chapter Index

On the way home, the three walked together.

    It was strange.

The single girl, Song Xiyun, had an uneasy expression on her face.

She walked on the innermost side of the road, tightly holding Xu Qianqian’s hand. She didn’t know what she was nervous about, but she would instinctively feel awkward whenever she saw Jiang Nian.

Originally, she hadn’t planned to sleep at Xu Qianqian’s house.

    But…

Xu Qianqian said she had a closet full of dresses they could try on.

Considering that tomorrow was Saturday and her mother started work earlier, if she arrived early, she would have to wait for Xu Qianqian in the classroom before they could change clothes together.

But ultimately, it was all because of the closet full of dresses.

Such a temptation was truly hard to resist.

Jiang Nian was only briefly surprised at first, but the two girls’ plans had little to do with him, so he didn’t pay much attention.

He walked along, fiddling with his phone, replied to two messages, and then asked.

    “Here’s a question, bro.”

“Speak,” Xu Qianqian raised an eyebrow.

Jiang Nian asked, “Young Master Xu, Young Master Song, what do you want to eat?”

    “I don’t know, whatever.”

“Then I’ll see what’s left in the roadside trash can and dig something out for you to make do with.”

“Go to hell!” Xu Qianqian pushed him.

Song Xiyun was a bit bewildered; did they talk like this every day?

Her mind was a bit muddled, unable to keep up with the rhythm of their conversation. She simply lowered her head and remained silent when they spoke, occasionally chiming in with a few words to Xu Qianqian.

On the night market street, lights flickered brightly and dimly, lining both sides of the road.

“In the beginning, there were only a few food trucks here.”

“Then how did they multiply?” Song Xiyun asked softly.

“Good question, I don’t know either,” Jiang Nian said.

He picked up a pair of disposable chopsticks, poked them against the folding table, and the plastic film tore, revealing a pair of white, slender bamboo chopsticks.

“Naturally, more gather when there’s money to be made. It might be because there’s a new resettlement community nearby, or it might be related to the third-year high school students.”

The barbecue stall was crowded, and the three sitting together attracted many glances from students eating supper.

The two girls had fair skin and light-colored clothes. They chattered away, their eyebrows like distant mountains, their eyes lively, so youthful that people couldn’t take their eyes off them.

The boy was also very handsome, until he pulled out a test paper.

“What are you doing?” Xu Qianqian asked.

“Can’t you tell?” Jiang Nian wrote on his biology paper while waiting for the barbecue, then turned to Xu Qianqian, “Am I hurting you by being so diligent?”

    “No, you’re hurting Xiyun.”

“Ah? What does that have to do with me?” Song Xiyun pursed her lips, unable to help but smile, “This biology test paper looks like it’s printed by the school, is it a new test?”

For her, youth was actually more like a continuous drizzle.

If it were just her and Xu Qianqian, they would never have lingered at an outdoor stall so late, nor would they have had so much fun. Jiang Nian’s presence just filled this missing piece of the puzzle, adding a touch of color.

In a sense, it was also because of Jiang Nian that the first family crisis was overcome, and she gained a new piggy bank.

And Jiang Nian, it seemed, asked for nothing.

Whether it was the debt that was set, or the Void Realm “work” of copying English homework.

In the end, for various reasons, they all came to nothing.

“More or less, the teachers are different, and the questions are different,” Jiang Nian said vaguely, not mentioning that this was an exclusive supply, as it wouldn’t be appropriate to say so. “You just have to show off at this time, then go do your questions.” Xu Qianqian scoffed, ignoring him, and began to eat the barbecue that had been served.

The three ate and chatted. Jiang Nian was engrossed in his questions and didn’t talk much. It was mostly the two girls chatting, discussing the coming-of-age ceremony tomorrow.

“Xiyun, do you think no one will wear strange clothes tomorrow?”

“There should be quite a few… I heard that in the previous class, a boy wore an Ultraman costume, and a senior sister wore a wine-red evening gown, which was especially beautiful.”

“Really?” Xu Qianqian’s eyes lit up, and she asked curiously, “She must have been an art student, did she go to the Communication University later?”

    “She repeated a year.”

“Oh… that’s still pretty good, she must have been aiming for the Communication University.”

Jiang Nian listened to them talk and couldn’t help but smile.

    Defining other people’s majors, huh?

He had also heard of that legendary senior sister in red. He heard she had a great figure and, after failing her college entrance exam, came back to repeat a year at a different campus.

But it didn’t matter; the word ‘repeat’ was very distant to him.

Occasionally, he would encounter repeat students at school. They were like exiles, taking classes in an old teaching building not far from the third-year high school building.

The corridors on that floor were shaded, and the only sun-facing corridor was sealed off with steel bars.

The second floor of that building was a reading room, the third floor was a psychological counseling room. On the fourth and fifth floors, above the counseling room, there were about twelve repeat classes.

Four liberal arts classes and eight science classes.

The liberal arts classes were in the deeper part of the corridor, on the sunny side. It was probably because the leaders were afraid that liberal arts girls would get depressed, so they specifically gave them the privilege of the sunny corridor.

In the building where Jiang Nian lived, a neighbor’s son was repeating a year there.

As he recalled, that boy wore black-rimmed glasses and was quite introverted. He liked to wear anime-style clothes, a delicate otaku. When Jiang Nian was in his first year of high school, the other boy had already taken the college entrance exam. Now Jiang Nian was in his third year, and the other boy was preparing for his second repeat year, so they would likely graduate together next year.

Li Hongmei had mentioned the graduation banquet, even making a joke that the two families would be exchanging wedding gifts next year, which is why he remembered it so clearly.

What does this have to do with repeating a year?

Because Lin Dong had sent Jiang Nian a photo: on the sixth floor of the rental house opposite the male dormitory building five, there was a girl who didn’t like to wear clothes after showering.

She liked to play CrossFire naked in front of the male dormitory building, gambling on Transmigration.

Over time, Jiang Nian developed a bold, vague impression of repeat students: true warriors dare to face abstract art in life.

The electric scooter tires rolled over the dry road, speeding towards the bustling night market.

“Damn it, I hope I don’t find out which idiot blocked my keyhole!” Zhang Xiaofan gritted his teeth, his angry roar scattering into the night wind.

At this moment, the burly third-year high school team member riding the scooter couldn’t help but turn his head and advise Zhang Xiaofan in the back seat.

    “Bro, there’s no surveillance there.”

With a smack, Zhang Xiaofan hit the rider on the back of the head.

“You tell me! I know that!”

The burly man yelped in pain, shrinking his neck but not daring to retort. The thousand-plus yuan sneakers he wore were a birthday gift from Zhang Xiaofan.

Even this electric scooter was bought with red envelopes Zhang Xiaofan sent him when he was in a good mood. He saved them up, adding some pocket money to buy it. The rich master had no flaws except for his fierce temper, unpredictable moods, and fondness for hitting and scolding people.

After all… Young Master Fan really gave money.

So he didn’t mind being Zhang Xiaofan’s dog; on the contrary, because he could both fawn and fight, he stood out among the other lackeys. The only one who could rival him was Young Master Fan’s strategist, Zeng Yunde.

    “Bro, calm down.”

“Calm my ass!” Zhang Xiaofan grew angrier the more he thought about it, and couldn’t help but slap the burly man on the back of the head several more times, each hit almost heavier than the last. Unexpectedly, an accident occurred.

The handlebars suddenly swerved, and the electric scooter began to violently wobble.

“Holy shit!!” Zhang Xiaofan’s face turned pale.

The big guy was also terrified, his whole face turning red. He gripped the handlebars tightly, desperately trying to keep the electric scooter from overturning, not daring to squeeze the brakes.

With a crash, the scooter hit a tree.

The two also fell to the roadside due to inertia. Fortunately, the speed had decreased before the collision, so neither was seriously injured and quickly got up.

Zhang Xiaofan immediately checked his pants; his knees were already torn.

The big guy immediately got up, not bothering with himself. He didn’t even look at the scooter, but instead immediately got up to check the tree; that thing was more precious than his own life.

“Damn it, luckily, luckily, Grandpa Tree isn’t scratched.”

“You idiot, what are you mumbling about?” Zhang Xiaofan said impatiently, but didn’t scold him further, as he was the instigator of the accident after all.

After thinking for a moment, he said.

“I’ll transfer the repair money to you in a bit; fix everything that’s broken.”

Upon hearing this, the tall guy immediately beamed with joy. The scooter wasn’t really that damaged. In fact, he could probably fix it himself by finding videos online and tinkering with it.

He just needed to refurbish it a bit, and the remaining repair money would be another income.

His old man often called him a spendthrift, only knowing how to spend the family’s money. But he had no idea that he not only didn’t spend money for school but could also earn some.

Whether or not his living expenses were paid didn’t matter, as long as he had Young Master Fan.

As for whether his old man was spending all his earnings on that widow, that had nothing to do with him. As soon as he graduated, he would leave Zhennan.

Cao Yang grinned, bowing his head and saying.

    “Okay, Young Master Fan.”

Zhang Xiaofan didn’t dwell on the topic anymore, turning his head to look at the snack street in the distance.

    “Pah!”

He spat on the ground, cursing.

“Damn it, tonight has really been cursed. It must be some petty person hexing me. Don’t let me find that grandson. Let’s get some supper first.”

Cao Yang immediately followed, supporting the scooter, thinking, “Time for supper again.”

“You’re absolutely right, bro, I’ll definitely help out.”

The two limped towards the snack stalls, heading directly for the most popular barbecue stall. From a distance, they spotted acquaintances among the many small tables.

“Young Master Fan, isn’t that Jiang Nian?” Cao Yang blurted out, “Holy crap, no, why is he eating supper with two pretty girls?”

“Damn it! That dog!” Zhang Xiaofan cursed furiously.

The hardest thing for people to accept is a disparity. He had a terrible night. First, he was rejected by Zhou Yuting, then his keyhole was blocked, and then he had a car accident.

Meanwhile, his arch-nemesis was at a barbecue stall, eating supper with two stunning girls!

“Let’s go! Let’s check it out.” Zhang Xiaofan couldn’t swallow his anger; he still remembered the humiliation of having his shoes stepped on tonight, his favorite pair of AJs.

Shoes worth nearly three thousand yuan, just like that, trampled twice by him.

A scholar can be killed but not humiliated; this score must be settled!

Jiang Nian saw that they had pretty much finished eating the barbecue and was about to ask them if they wanted to leave. He looked up and saw Zhang Xiaofan approaching with someone, full of Aura.

But… why did he look like he’d been beaten?
