Chapter Index

    “Boss, let’s just eat here.”

“Oh, oh, no, no, you shouldn’t.”

    “It’s fine, it’s fine.”

Jiang Nian hadn’t spent a single cent on driving practice yet, but he already got a free meal.

Tian Yongsheng was actually quite happy.

In terms of learning to drive, he certainly couldn’t provide too much emotional value to his boss. Treating his boss to a meal wasn’t bad; at least he was serving his boss.

    This was a win-win situation.

After the meal, Tian Yongsheng drove Jiang Nian back, chatting casually on the way.

“There are many people buying cars now, and many people practicing driving.”

Jiang Nian sat in the passenger seat, looking out at the quiet afternoon sun.

    “Isn’t that good?”

“Yes, it’s very good,” Tian Yongsheng said with a sigh. “Hehe, I heard that in some villages in the townships, they even compare which village has more cars.”

“There’s nothing wrong with showing off wealth, it’s just that maintaining a car is expensive now,” Jiang Nian rubbed his neck. “If I don’t have much money in the future, I’ll just buy a used car.”

“The boss knows how to manage money,” Tian Yongsheng immediately praised him, but he didn’t take Jiang Nian’s words to heart. He just listened to what the second generation said.

    Can’t afford a car?

With his connections, even if he couldn’t afford a car, someone would give him one to drive.

    Ten minutes later.

“This is going to the main gate, right?” Jiang Nian asked.

    “Ah?”

“The main gate is already closed at this time. Let’s go to the street behind; I’ll enter through the small gate on the north side,” Jiang Nian pointed to the intersection ahead.

“Turn there, go straight to the end, and turn right.”

Tian Yongsheng had no objections, turning the steering wheel.

    “Alright.”

The car passed through a shaded section of road and headed towards the North Gate.

Originally, Jiang Nian planned to get off at the intersection, but Tian Yongsheng insisted on enthusiastically driving the car into the alley, finally stopping a short distance in front of the North Gate.

    Bang! Bang!

The two got out of the car, and Tian Yongsheng was about to knock on the door.

Jiang Nian’s eyelid twitched, almost scared out of his wits, and he raised his hand to stop him.

“Hey, hey, no need to knock, I’ll go through another gate.”

Tian Yongsheng looked left and right. Beside them was a long, continuous high wall, and he was suddenly a bit confused.

Are there any other gates nearby besides this iron gate?

    “Boss, are you sure?”

“Mhm, mhm, I’m sure.” Jiang Nian had already walked along the wall in another direction, turning to wave at Old Tian. “Thanks for your trouble, you can go back.”

Hearing this, Tian Yongsheng didn’t ask any more questions; his good intentions had been fulfilled anyway.

With a bang, he sat back in the driver’s seat but didn’t leave immediately. He just rolled down the window, lit a cigarette with a snap, and sat in the car, puffing away.

Service should be complete; successful people pay more attention to details.

What if the boss comes back later?

He took two puffs of his cigarette, then turned to look in the direction Jiang Nian had left.

Suddenly, he saw Jiang Nian walking along, then abruptly jumping onto a shared bicycle leaning against the wall. Using it for leverage, he deftly flipped over the wall.

    “Cough, cough, cough!!!”

Tian Yongsheng was stunned, almost choking on his cigarette.

    “The boss is really something.”

By the time Jiang Nian climbed into the school, the lunch break had already begun.

The North District dormitory building was also locked, and the dorm supervisor would absolutely not open the door before 1:40.

Therefore, there was almost no one on the campus roads.

He went unimpeded, passing through the North District and smoothly arriving at the third-year building.

In the afternoon, the sun had already passed over the building. It hung high on the back of the third-year building, casting a clear Yin and Yang line on the concrete ground below.

Jiang Nian stepped onto the Yin and Yang line, entering the shaded area.

He looked up at the building, seeing only a few scattered people holding books and doing problems in the corridors on the fourth and fifth floors.

Upstairs, the classroom was also quiet.

In the corner of the sanitation area.

Wang Yuhe, with her hair down, was buried in a tall stack of books, doing her homework.

Chen Yunyun was sleeping by the window, where the sun still lingered. Her freshly washed hair was fluffy, basking in the sunlight.

Jiang Nian tiptoed over, but before he got close,

Wang Yuhe suddenly looked up, spotting him in advance, and silently mouthed a question.

    “What do you want?”

Jiang Nian shook his head, pulled two boxes of milk drinks from behind him, and gave them to the elementary school student. Then he pointed at Wang Yuhe, and then at the sleeping Chen Yunyun.

    “OK? (gesturing)”

Wang Yuhe rolled her eyes, sticking out her pinky finger.

    “Tsk (wild guess).”

After doing all that, Jiang Nian quietly left.

Thanks to Old Man Li Hua, they were overflowing with drinks this week, simply couldn’t finish them. Last time he only bought drinks for the group, so this time he took the opportunity to make it up to the two girls.

After all, he often freeloaded off their food, so it was a matter of reciprocating.

Chen Yunyun vaguely woke up in the latter half of her nap, and as soon as she opened her eyes, she saw the drinks by her desk.

She was startled at first, then got up and turned to look at Wang Yuhe in the back row.

Wang Yuhe was already asleep, face down, and there was also a box of drinks on her desk. But Chen Yunyun was sure that Wang Yuhe hadn’t bought this stuff at noon.

So, she cast her gaze towards the back door of the classroom, where Jiang Nian was clearly also sleeping, face down.

    Alright.

After the nap, Jiang Nian woke up to see Zhang Ningzhi sitting at her seat doing problems.

He had taken half a day off, feeling like someone who had escaped the Walls of St. Mary. Half a day felt like a whole day, and returning to school was the same old rhythm.

He yawned, got up to go to the restroom, and casually asked,

    “When did you arrive?”

Zhang Ningzhi turned her head, thought for a moment, and said seriously,

    “When you were sleeping.”

    Jiang Nian: “…”

Li Hua pushed open the back door of the classroom and, upon seeing Jiang Nian, immediately made a gesture to hug him.

“I’ve got good news for you, I’m going to have a son!”

“Get lost, where’s today’s defeated drink?” Jiang Nian held out his hand.

“red stone, you have no chemistry at all,” Li Hua said, disheartened, sitting down. “It’s in your drawer, bought during PE class at noon.”

“By the way, why did you take time off?”

Li Hua also knew about Jiang Nian’s driving lessons. After all, they were deskmates, and he had seen him study Subject One on his phone, but he didn’t believe he actually went for driving practice.

In his understanding, learning to drive would take at least a month.

“Why do you care so much?” Jiang Nian didn’t explain and went out to the restroom.

On the way, he met the class monitor and casually greeted him.

    “Class monitor.”

    “Mhm.”

The afternoon classes were still dry and boring.

Fortunately, the first class was Chinese, and Jiang Nian took a sip of hot water from his thermos. He glanced sideways, catching sight of Zhizhi listening to the lecture with a serious expression.

    Their eyes somehow suddenly met.

Jiang Nian inexplicably felt that she seemed a little “bored.”

    Was it a misconception?

Turning his head, he continued his tactical drinking of water.

Zhang Ningzhi retracted her gaze and couldn’t help but pout. She thought, drink, drink, drink, all he knows is drinking water, and he wasn’t there during PE class at noon, so it’s not good to ask.

The confidence from being deskmates wasn’t enough for her to inquire too much about private matters.

Unless the other party gave her an excuse, like a non-expiring ticket. Holding it in her hand, she could move freely in his world.

Jiang Nian tactically drank water for the third time, feeling a bit full, so he tilted his shoulder slightly.

    “What’s wrong?”

The ticket had already been handed over, Zhang Ningzhi pursed her lips, so she asked softly,

“What were you doing at noon?”

“Mhm, I practiced driving for two hours, but I don’t have to go again this week,” Jiang Nian told her truthfully, omitting the part about Xi Bao.

After all, the two had already agreed to keep each other’s secrets.

    Neither of them wanted to—

    “Oh,” Zhang Ningzhi nodded.

Her emotions were clearly not fully released; there was still some left.

“After that, I ate a meal at the driving school and then came back for a nap,” Jiang Nian felt there wasn’t much else to say, and climbing walls wasn’t exactly glorious.

“Alright, the math teacher asked where you went at noon,” Zhang Ningzhi said softly, her patience returning.

Jiang Nian’s eyelid twitched, “What did you say?”

“It wasn’t me who said it, it was the group leader,” Zhang Ningzhi hesitated. “He said… he said you went for surgery, and then the math teacher didn’t ask anymore.”

    Jiang Nian: “…”

What kind of surgery, boys all know.

    Li Hua, you big bastard!

“By the way, the math teacher also assigned homework,” Zhang Ningzhi’s mood had clearly improved; a little honesty seemed to make her happy.

    “Where is it?”

“In the big review book, I’ve already folded the pages for you and checked off the problems,” Zhang Ningzhi whispered, claiming credit, her chin slightly raised.

“No need to make it so complicated, I’ll just copy yours.”

    Zhang Ningzhi: “…”

Suddenly, Old Liu on the podium coughed, interrupting his lecture.

“You like to talk so much, don’t you? Do you want to come up and speak?”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi instantly became like a startled young beast. She abruptly shrank back into her seat, her ears red, her head bowed, not daring to look up.

Jiang Nian, however, was nonchalant, scratching his face.

    Speak on stage?

Alright, let’s start with the night XX won the championship.

    Huh? He’s not—

    Haters shut up!

After class, Li Hua’s kidney reflex area was fiercely elbowed by Jiang Nian.

    “Ah! Holy crap!!”

Li Hua jumped up, rubbing his kidney reflex area and glaring.

    “Oh, what are you doing!”

“Don’t pretend, stop acting,” Jiang Nian pointed at him.

Li Hua immediately stopped grumbling and walked out of the classroom in a crab-like shuffle to catch his breath.

    “red stone.”

The afternoon passed quickly. Those tormented by two consecutive physics classes were already sleeping face down on their desks, and the self-study session was quieter than ever.

Snap, someone furtively snuck out from the back row and squeezed in between Jiang Nian and Li Hua’s seats.

“Hey, do you guys know about the coming-of-age ceremony this month?”

Jiang Nian looked down at Lin Dong, who was squatting in the back row.

    “What coming-of-age ceremony?”

“What else could it be? The third-year coming-of-age ceremony, of course,” Li Hua took over, rattling off details. “I remember them all, a coming-of-age ceremony and a hundred-day oath-taking rally.”

“You remember that quite well, but what’s the use? There’s no holiday,” Jiang Nian said, uninterested. Anyway, his parents wouldn’t come to the coming-of-age ceremony.

He suddenly realized that if the school really held a coming-of-age ceremony, wouldn’t Zhang Ningzhi’s parents also come?

Clearly, Jiang Nian had a bit of ability.

He was the kind of talent who, with a bit of effort, aimed to consistently score above 600 points before the college entrance exam, then attend a double first-class university, and had a promising future.

But in front of Zhang Ningzhi’s parents, he seemed a bit lacking.

Due to the information revealed by the System, he was slightly resistant to interacting with Zhang Ningzhi’s parents. Last time at the parent-teacher conference, he saw her dad and could still be a bit playful.

If both her parents appeared together, he wouldn’t be playful anymore.
