Chapter Index

The Heaven-Defying pictures were only circulated among a few people, all acquaintances of Tao Ran.

The class committee member himself knew about it and had no intention of stopping it. After all, it wasn’t a secret; all the old-timers in Class 3 knew he liked furry art.

Tao Ran remembered a beautiful, sunny afternoon.

The golden sunset poured into the classroom like a tide through the window. After the class split, everyone introduced themselves one by one, some shy, some lively.

Only he, always open and honest.

He still remembered that at the time, he really liked the third sentence he said when he stood on the podium.

    “I like furry art.”

At that moment, Old Liu clapped vigorously, cheering him on repeatedly.

“Furry art is wonderful, I like furry art too. Speaking of auspicious omens, there are many famous auspicious omens in Chinese history. Do any students know of them?”

The classroom fell silent, save for the creaking of the old electric fan.

    What beautiful, innocent memories.

The broadcast for morning exercises sounded, interrupting Tao Ran’s reminiscence.

He gracefully and elegantly rose, preparing to go downstairs for the damn leadership exercises.

What a bunch of blind, idiotic fools, have they lost their minds? It rained last night, the ground is wet, why are we still doing exercises?

Just as he reached the doorway, his sharp eyes suddenly spotted a piece of paper on the floor.

It looked familiar; wasn’t it that picture of Li Hua’s?

Tao Ran bent down to pick it up, crumpled it into a ball, and was about to throw it into the trash can. He had no intention of dating in high school, and it was perfectly normal to show his interests.

The paper ball arced through the air and landed in the sanitation corner to the right of the podium.

On the sports field, the air was humid and hot.

The moisture seemed to stick to the skin, making clothes feel greasy and clingy. Students gathered for exercises were restless, loudly chattering on the field.

“Tao Ran exposed his XP on the first day of class, and he still thinks it’s a hobby,” Yang Qiming chuckled, fanning himself as he spoke to Zhou Yuting.

“It’s no secret in our class. That class committee member is a pervert; he can stare at a Grimm’s Fairy Tales illustration for half an hour.”

“I thought he was looking at Little Red Riding Hood, but when I walked over, he was staring at Grandma Wolf repeatedly.”

Zhou Yuting’s face turned pale; she no longer wanted to hear another word from Yang Qiming. Her eyes were unfocused, and her lips trembled slightly.

    This Olympiad class.

“Damn it! Which idiot said we had to do exercises?” Ma Guojun was unbearably hot, his big face already red before he even started running. “The ground is wet, let’s run to the market!”

“Why isn’t Jiang Nian down here?” Li Hua looked around.

Unable to find Jiang Nian, he turned to look for Zhang Ningzhi. He found Zhang Ningzhi had arrived and was standing with Yao Beibei, which he found strange.

“He wouldn’t be skipping exercises, would he? If so, I must report him to the disciplinary committee.”

Hearing this, Ma Guojun turned his head, his gaze beginning to scan.

    “Just call Old Liu directly.”

    Beep beep—!!!

A shrill whistle interrupted Li Hua and Ma Guojun’s thoughts, and the exercise team began to move.

In the line, Nie Qiqi jogged slowly, looking curiously from side to side. She suddenly realized the class monitor was missing, and her jaw almost dropped.

    Where”s the class monitor?

    Where’s my big class monitor!!!

She was panting, turning to look at Cai Xiaoqing, who was running beside her.

    “Xiaoqing, where’s the class monitor?”

Cai Xiaoqing ran, silently reciting the vocabulary words from the small flashcards she had brought downstairs. She wasn’t as obsessive as Nie Qiqi and replied perfunctorily.

“I don’t know, maybe he has something to do.”

“Wuwuwu, the class monitor isn’t here, running exercises isn’t fun anymore.” Nie Qiqi felt she had lost out; she should have pretended to be sick and not come down to run.

Jiang Nian sat in the office, his hand propped on Qing Bao’s desk as he yawned.

The next class was biology, but Qing Bao’s computer had a small problem. So she called Li Qingrong to help fix it.

He happened to be passing by on the first floor and slipped in.

In such humid and hot weather, only a madman would go for exercises. Running in this weather just makes you sticky with sweat; it neither strengthens the body nor prevents colds.

But, frankly, the leaders don’t run, so they don’t care about your concerns.

The computer problem wasn’t big; Li Qingrong could solve it alone. The remaining time was simply waiting for the computer to recover, the three of them waiting.

After two minutes, the problem was solved.

“That’s great, thank you.” Qing Bao breathed a sigh of relief, a smile appearing on her face. “Do you want some tea? The sugar-free kind.”

Li Qingrong was a bit confused, thinking it was jasmine tea bags.

The last time Jiang Nian gave her a packet, it was still fresh in her memory. She didn’t know whether to accept it and subconsciously turned to see Jiang Nian’s reaction.

“Yes, teacher, do you have anything else?” Jiang Nian was quite calm.

“I’ll give you some test papers.”

“Then no, that’s really not necessary.” Jiang Nian was startled, thinking, how could Qing Bao not take a joke, immediately retaliating with a nuclear bomb?

No one understood his humor, damn it.

    Walking out of the office.

On the sports field, the exercise music hadn’t stopped yet.

Before going upstairs, Li Qingrong glanced at the Oriental Leaves in her hand, then at the same brand in Jiang Nian’s hand, unsure what to say for a moment.

    Oh, it’s a tea drink.

Jiang Nian, being an restless person, spoke first.

“What are you doing this afternoon, Class Monitor?”

In two more hours, the weekly golden six-hour holiday would begin, lasting from noon until six in the evening, with nowhere to go.

In another week, they would face the pressure of the six-city joint exam at the end of the month.

Li Qingrong slowly went upstairs, then slightly tilted her head.

Today was cloudy, and there was no dazzling sunlight on the stairs, but it was still brightly lit. Her skin was cool white, like delicate porcelain.

    “Nothing, just… staying.”

“Oh, reading, right?” Jiang Nian thought reading during a holiday fit the stereotype of an academic overachiever.

After all, Li Qingrong’s grades were too Heaven-Defying. If she could maintain this momentum, she might really get into Tsinghua or Peking University.

He heard that top students, to secure early admission or bonus points for the college entrance exam, would frantically participate in competitions during their first and second years of high school. He wondered how many Li Qingrong had joined.

“No, just staying,” Li Qingrong shook her head.

    “Watching movies?”

    “No.”

Jiang Nian listed a bunch of things, but Li Qingrong shook her head at all of them. Finally, after relentless questioning, he learned that she really just stayed at home.

    Uh. Literally just staying.

Staying in her room, idly passing the time, then sleeping when she got tired. By then, it would be almost dark, and she would pack her things to return to school.

But then again, those damn six hours would pass in a nap.

Jiang Nian thought to himself, then next time he could ask the class monitor out? She was idle anyway, but that thought was quickly dismissed.

It would be too abrupt. What’s the difference between that and writing “burning with desire” on his face?

    Just reached the fourth floor.

Li Qingrong suddenly stopped, turning to Jiang Nian without warning to ask.

“Were you serious about what you said yesterday?”

Jiang Nian was stunned. Had he said some Heaven-Defying nonsense in the classroom yesterday?

    “What did I say?”

Li Qingrong lowered her gaze. “Learning to drive.”

“Oh, oh, of course I was serious. It’s just that I haven’t found the right opportunity yet.” Jiang Nian said nonchalantly; he was a giant in words but a dwarf in action.

“What’s an opportunity?” Li Qingrong asked curiously.

“It’s just the right timing, I guess. Maybe I’ll find a driving school this afternoon and ask around.” Jiang Nian said casually, though he was just talking big.

Are you kidding? He finally had a holiday.

Shouldn’t he lie at home for a few hours instead of going out to find a driving school? Passing Subject One was indeed easy, but the later practice and check-ins were the key.

Not to mention anything else, finishing Subject One now would be great. But when it came to practicing and checking in during the New Year, the drawbacks would become apparent; he would definitely be the last one.

So choosing a school is very important, otherwise, the Late Stage will be disgusting.

“Oh, I have an opportunity here.” Li Qingrong really put her knowledge to good use, looking away as she said, “My cousin knows a friend at a driving school.”

Jiang Nian was a bit confused. What a coincidence?

However, he trusted the class monitor; she shouldn’t try to trick him.

He hesitated for a few seconds, then tentatively asked.

“How much is the registration fee?”

    “One thousand.”

Jiang Nian suspected his ears were broken, looking at Li Qingrong with a puzzled expression.

    “How much?”

    “Eight hundred.”

“Huh? No. This…” Jiang Nian was dumbfounded. Was this driving school run by Shen Teng or something?

How could the tuition fee keep dropping?

He hadn’t even started bargaining, and she had already cut the price twice. You say you’re busy recruiting, so you lower the price, but a fifth off in one go?

    “Five hundred?” Li Qingrong hesitated.

“Stop, stop, stop, don’t drop it anymore.” Jiang Nian coughed, clearing his thoughts. “Class Monitor, let me ask, is the driving school not in Southeast Asia?”

Li Qingrong shook her head, saying calmly.

“It’s near Zhenbei Plaza, Zhuoyue Driving School.”

“Then why is the registration fee so cheap, Class Monitor?” Jiang Nian’s eyelids twitched slightly.

He thought, what kind of ridiculously low price is five hundred? Pure loss, right?

Li Qingrong’s answer was very brief. “Friend.”

“Oh, I see.” Jiang Nian roughly understood what was going on. The class monitor was using her cousin’s connections to get him a discount.

He originally wanted to politely decline, but when he turned and met Li Qingrong’s eyes, he was momentarily captivated and opened his mouth but couldn’t speak.

“Alright then… thank you, Class Monitor.”

Jiang Nian thought, he would ask others about the original price later. The class monitor was also very kind. No, the class monitor was also kind, and her kindness should not be let down.

Li Qingrong nodded, her gaze shifting slightly.

    “Mm.”

After a few seconds, she took out her phone and said.

“I’ll push the driving school owner to you.”

“Oh, okay.” Jiang Nian also pulled out his phone, but then remembered he didn’t have WeChat friend slots. “Class Monitor, let me add your WeChat first.”

Sounds came from downstairs; the group doing exercises was returning.

Li Qingrong’s eyes lowered slightly as she stood at the staircase on the fourth floor. She seemed to be in no hurry at all, extending her phone to him.

Jiang Nian was momentarily stunned, thinking that adding WeChat didn’t require handing over the phone. Never mind, no more dawdling.

He took the phone, quickly operated it, and then returned it to Li Qingrong.

    “Alright, Class Monitor.”

Li Qingrong’s fingers were long and slender, with distinct knuckles. The skin on the back of her hand was cool-toned, fair and delicate, appearing bony overall, truly pleasing to the eye.

She took the phone and quickly pushed the contact card over.

To Jiang Nian’s surprise, after he added the contact, the other side accepted it in one second.
