Chapter Index

“Brother Dong, drink my water!” Sun Zhicheng timely offered his water bottle.

Before handing it over, he first glanced at Chen Yunyun, clearly seeking praise.

See? The group can’t function without me.

Afterward, he secretly looked at the new student, Zhou Yuting. Watching the panic disappear from her Face gave him a sense of accomplishment.

It was the exact same feeling of pleasure he got when he lent his water card to Ji Jiayu last time. Helping classmates felt great.

Lin Dong’s throat was burning, and without thinking twice, he grabbed the water and gulped it down.

    “Cough, cough, cough!!!”

He coughed violently a few times, his Face immediately turning red, and tears streaming down his cheeks.

Bang, bang, bang! He heavily slapped his chest, his expression ferocious and painful. It took about three seconds before he felt relief, letting out a long sigh.

Once he recovered, Lin Dong felt a little awkward noticing the gazes from all directions.

“Oh, it’s nothing, I just choked.”

Sun Zhicheng looked at Lin Dong’s nonchalant appearance and admired him greatly. He thought of a certain lyric: Every time I leave, I always pretend to be relaxed, turning around with tears in my eyes.

He couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up and praise him.

“Brother Dong, you have the Potential of a Great Emperor.”

Chen Yunyun looked at her goofball group leader, whose eyes were frighteningly red.

    “Lin Dong, are you okay?”

Some people are alive, but their Face is already shattered.

Before he could answer, Sun Zhicheng heard Chen Yunyun’s question and immediately grinned, forcefully defending Lin Dong’s coolness.

“What could possibly be wrong with Brother Dong?”

Hearing this, Wang Yuhe also looked over, her gaze confused.

    “Did he choke on latiao?”

Lin Dong’s Face hadn’t cooled down yet, so he could only forcefully wave his hand, tears still in his eyes.

    “I’m fine, I’m fine.”

Zhou Yuting witnessed the entire farce, for which she bore some responsibility. She was dumbfounded and didn’t know what to say for a moment. So, could she still ask for the grade sheet?

“Um, Classmate Lin, do you have the grade sheet from the last joint exam?”

“No, no, ask the Study Committee Member Tao Ran.” Lin Dong waved his hand, having no energy to talk to Zhou Yuting. He was in this state; who cared about the damn grade sheet?

In contrast, from a classmate’s perspective, Yu Zhiyi was a little better.

    Ring, ring, ring. Class started.

Having failed to get the grade sheet, Zhou Yuting had to give up. Returning to her seat, the two boys sharing the desk were still arguing about “Brother Yang being so affectionate.”

Zhou Yuting immediately felt depressed; the sky was falling.

What kind of people are in this class?

After the first class ended, Zhou Yuting found Tao Ran and got the grade sheet before the Study Committee Member could collapse.

As she walked back, she saw Yu Zhiyi receiving the grade sheet from Lin Dong.

    “Thank you.”

    “Haha.”

Zhou Yuting lowered her head in silence and walked past the pair.

At this moment, she particularly resented big chests.

No, can lust really lead to progress? Those evil big Cs. Actually, she wasn’t sure of the size; she was just guessing based on feeling. In short, jealousy.

In a daze, she even felt that the grade sheet in Yu Zhiyi’s hand was slightly larger than her own.

    Unbelievable.

During the second class that afternoon, Zhou Yuting looked up at the Physics teacher analyzing forces, oblivious to everything else. She could barely keep up, but it wasn’t as strenuous as she had imagined.

The Olympiad Class wasn’t as difficult as she thought; she could handle it easily.

Thinking this, she took out the grade sheet and began searching for Jiang Nian’s name from the bottom up. She had no choice; he was the person she knew best in this class.

He wasn’t in the bottom twenty, nor the bottom thirty.

She listened to the physics lesson while looking at the grade sheet, finally finding Jiang Nian’s score in the top twenty, with a total score of 590.

The moment she saw the total score, Zhou Yuting frowned.

Jiang Nian’s total score was a bit high, already close to the 600 mark. But it was only thirty-something points higher than hers—rounded down, just thirty points higher—not out of reach.

A quick look at his English score, 143, made her feel suffocated.

Looking further down, Math was over 120, and Comprehensive Science was over 220.

Zhou Yuting grew silent the more she looked. Jiang Nian seemed to have no weaknesses. Except for Chinese being slightly weak, Math and Comprehensive Science were both decent, and English…

Forget it, she wouldn’t look at him anymore.

Zhou Yuting’s Dao Heart was starting to become unstable. It wasn’t hard to surpass someone who only excelled in certain subjects. What was truly frightening was someone whose weaknesses weren’t obvious, whose strengths were stable, and who occasionally had a burst of excellence.

Jiang Nian hadn’t been like this before.

Since she didn’t know anyone else, she first checked the scores of the top ten. She was disappointed not to see the names of anyone sitting near her.

She carefully examined the score of the first-place student and immediately gasped. Was this even human? This was a true top student.

    Wait, who is Li Qingrong?

Yu Zhiyi was also flipping through Class Three’s joint exam results during class. Since she knew everyone in this class, she felt highly invested.

The Devil King Li Qingrong was still in first place. It was strange—why hadn’t she transferred up to Class Zero?

The treatment in Class Zero was excellent. Not only did they receive a monthly cafeteria card allowance, but they also occasionally received various honorary or welfare-based rewards.

They were Zhennan Middle School’s true privileged group and the darlings of the leaders.

Yu Zhiyi put herself in that position and thought, ‘Oh my god, if it were me, I would definitely have gone!’

Scrolling further, she saw that the scores of the students in the class had changed quite a bit. Some had jumped from the 500s to the 600s, while others had clearly regressed, such as Wu Jungu.

After all, he was her boyfriend; hearts were made of flesh. It was impossible to say she felt nothing, but she truly couldn’t do anything right now.

It was Senior Year now, and she needed to mature. She didn’t want to muddle through life forever.

The College Entrance Exam was the only way out. Even if she might still lack money and influence afterward, she would have her diploma and at least a good school, which meant more opportunities.

The small county town was too small, a stagnant pool.

Moreover, she couldn’t even manage herself right now, let alone worry about others. Wu Jungu’s current state only made her feel exhausted. She needed to find a chance to put an end to things.

Looking down, Yu Zhiyi saw Li Hua’s Math and Comprehensive Science scores and clicked her tongue.

Her gaze shifted, and she saw Jiang Nian’s name.

Hmm. 590. She wondered if she was seeing things.

She looked closely: Water-Spraying Monkey scored 140 in English. She was stunned for a moment. Why could this person score so high? Li Hua was like this, and so was Jiang Nian.

The more abstract the person, the higher the score?

Six hundred points was a chasm, meaning every subject was at an excellent standard: 120 each for Chinese, Math, and English, and 80 for each Science subject, totaling exactly 600.

When she was in the adjacent class, Olympiad Class Two, the teacher had jokingly mentioned it.

Class Three has a Li Hua who consistently stays above 600 points. If you want to get into a decent Project 985 university, the first step is scoring above 600, and the second step is scoring higher than Li Hua.

The scores of Jiang Nian’s group were quite clustered. Aside from Ma Guojun, Yao Beibei, Jiang Nian, Chen Yunyun, and Lin Dong were all loosely distributed near the Li Hua line.

It seems this class hasn’t changed much; it’s still so exasperating.

The three afternoon classes finished, followed by the final short self-study session.

Yang Qiming learned that Zhou Yuting and Jiang Nian had been classmates before and asked curiously.

“How come he didn’t greet you?”

Hearing this, Zhou Yuting’s eyelid twitched. She muttered that he hadn’t exactly *not* greeted her. If insulting language counted, then they had exchanged pleasantries.

“Well, our relationship is just average.”

“Oh, I see. No wonder he didn’t react.” Yang Qiming couldn’t help but offer a fair assessment, “You are former classmates after all. Isn’t he a bit too cold-blooded?”

    “Haha, not really.”

Given that Jiang Nian had never spread false rumors about her, Zhou Yuting wouldn’t speak badly of him either. She didn’t want Jiang Nian to retaliate; that person held grudges too much.

“I didn’t greet him either. Forcing a conversation would be awkward.”

Suddenly, someone at the door announced that the Class Monitor should go to the Academic Affairs Office for a meeting. Half a minute later, Zhou Yuting saw Cai Xiaoqing stand up, leave her seat, and exit.

She was bewildered and turned to ask Brother Melancholy.

    “Who is our Class Monitor?”

“That one, the person behind Jiang Nian.”

    “Then, who just left?”

“Oh, that was the Discipline Committee Member.” Yang Qiming was quite enthusiastic and talkative. “You might not know since you just arrived, but our Class Monitor doesn’t have to do any work.”

“Huh? Then what is she in charge of?” Zhou Yuting was taken aback.

Yang Qiming paused, rubbing his chin and frowning in thought.

“You’ve stumped me. I’ve never thought about that question. Our Class Monitor is special. Maybe she’s in charge of… scoring first? Or maybe she’s in charge of being pretty?”

When Zhou Yuting heard ‘scoring first,’ a name silently surfaced in her mind.

    Li Qingrong?

“Our Class Monitor is Li Qingrong, right?”

“That’s right, you just found out.” Since Yang Qiming was idle, he quietly gave her a rundown. “The one who choked on latiao just now is Brother Dong, the Math Class Representative.”

“The Study Committee Member is Tao Ran. He bears the honor of two Class Representative roles; he’s our class’s Five-Star General. You’ll know when he hands out test papers during the evening self-study session.”

“Wait, why two subjects?” Zhou Yuting’s brain couldn’t keep up.

Yang Qiming explained, “Because… our Homeroom Teacher is the Chinese teacher, so no one wants to be the Chinese Class Representative. He had to take on the additional role.”

    Zhou Yuting: “…”

In a flash, she saw Yu Tongjie in the first large group, and her heart trembled.

Last time, Liu Feipeng cautiously invited Yu Tongjie out to eat, but he messed it up. Everyone at the table was scolded by Yu Tongjie, and Liu Feipeng didn’t dare lift his head.

The joy of being promoted to the class was so strong that she almost forgot Young Master Yu was also in Class Three.

She immediately swallowed hard. Even Liu Feipeng didn’t dare offend him. She should be careful not to incur Young Master Yu’s unwarranted dislike.

Thinking this, Zhou Yuting felt a headache coming on.

She had clearly been promoted to the top class among the Olympiad level and had a chance to get revenge, but why did this promotion feel so incredibly uncomfortable?

After some thought, she reached a conclusion.

    It’s all Jiang Nian’s fault!

If he hadn’t been so sensitive back then, he wouldn’t have stolen her promotion spot. Without him, none of this subsequent trouble would have happened, and she wouldn’t have had to suffer so much.

With complicated feelings, Zhou Yuting passed her first afternoon in the new class.

That afternoon, Li Hua said he was going to treat Jiang Nian and Ma Guojun to dinner.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Nian and Ma Guojun hadn’t drunk a single drop of water all afternoon. Walking out of school, their lips were dry, but they were still grinning.

Ma Guojun said, “Hua, order two cans of Red Bull first when we eat.”

Jiang Nian: “I don’t drink Red Bull. Get a bottle of Mizone for me to rinse my mouth with.”
