Chapter Index

At the crossroads below Building D,

“See you then.” Jiang Nian waved.

The two had met at least a second time, so their tone was quite familiar.

“Senior, are you going to eat now?”

Although she knew Jiang Nian didn’t like being called’Senior’, she really didn’t know what else to call him. She couldn’t just call him by his name; they weren’t that close yet.

So, for now, she could only make do with that.

    “Why?”

“I’m a little hungry, I want to go too.” Lin Yuxi revealed a bright smile, playing a small trick, “So, can you take me with you?”

If it were anyone else, they might have agreed.

A pure junior high school girl, so tender she seemed to drip water; one bite would surely send him to Hell.

Jiang Nian only thought for a moment, then pointed at her and said,

“You’re leaving early, violating school rules. I’ll report you in a bit.”

Lin Yuxi was dumbfounded; she had run into a snitch.

    “You—”

Seeing Jiang Nian about to leave, in a moment of panic,

She grabbed Jiang Nian, then blurted out,

“I, I have questions I don’t understand, I want to ask Senior on QQ.”

“Let go, I’ll push you our homeroom teacher’s WeChat.” Jiang Nian said sternly, “To be a person, one must first cultivate virtue, and our homeroom teacher is a good person who cultivates virtue.”

“If you have anything you don’t understand, just ask him.”

Lin Yuxi had nothing in common with the old fogey; she was a member of the ‘looks club’. Simply put, she liked handsome guys and didn’t like talking to average-looking people.

Because she had read countless romance novels in junior high, she diligently studied to get into high school. Her goal, however, was to have a proper early romance and fall head over heels in love.

As long as she could date a cool and domineering school bully, or a gentle Senior, or a cold and aloof academic ace, she would even be willing to get into a 985 university!

Just thinking about being held by the chin by a cold academic ace, pressed into an empty corner for a kiss. His eyes dark, his voice hoarse, biting at her lips.

And saying, “Baby, you’re the death of me.”

    How thrilling would that be!

Thinking of this, she coughed, and in a strained voice said,

    “Can I add Senior’s QQ?”

Jiang Nian looked at her flawless face, slightly stunned for a few seconds.

    “Dream on, low-scorer.”

After saying that, he turned and left.

Under the sun, Lin Yuxi cried. She had thought that early romance in high school would be full of difficulties, perhaps misunderstood by classmates, talked to by teachers, and criticized by parents.

For this, she had made full psychological preparations.

But she didn’t expect that the first obstacle to her early romance would be… her grades.

The boomerang from slacking off and reading novels in junior high, many years later, came back with a whistling sound.

Once again, it came from behind, accurately hitting her.

Low score! Low-scorer! Boo hoo hoo!!

Yuan Zhengchuan was just a bit reckless, not stupid.

Even though he heard Ji Jiayu say not to follow, he still followed his instincts. He just kept a few meters away from Ji Jiayu, to avoid her reacting negatively.

Originally, he thought Ji Jiayu was going to the small woods to clear her head, or to walk around the open-air parking lot behind the small woods.

That would be good; he could go up and talk to her.

But he didn’t expect her to go into the cafeteria.

Yuan Zhengchuan was full of disbelief, still saying there was no beef!

People live day by day by a single straw; once the last hope disappears, then what also disappears is the already scarce sanity, which will completely go mad.

He now had the makings of a berserker, getting angrier the more he thought about it.

    Was he wrong?

Where was he wrong! It had always been like this; sometimes, couldn’t she look for reasons within herself?

Ji Jiayu often flirted around; didn’t she herself have a problem?

If he hadn’t broken up with her, who knows how many green hats he would have worn!

Thinking of this, an enraged Yuan Zhengchuan rushed in.

As soon as he entered the cafeteria, he almost blacked out.

There were only two people eating in the cafeteria; who else could it be but Ji Jiayu and Jiang Nian?

Damn it, Cao Thief insults me!

By the window in the cafeteria, Jiang Nian was eating while playing on his phone.

    “Where’s your husband?”

Opening with a shock, Ji Jiayu almost fainted.

    “Your husband!”

“Isn’t he your husband?” Jiang Nian asked with a puzzled look, both fumbling and hitting, “It’s not just me who thinks so.”

Hearing this, Ji Jiayu was completely speechless and asked,

“I didn’t do anything; do I have to avoid suspicion even when eating?”

“Wouldn’t that hurt him too much?” Jiang Nian asked.

“You, you, can you not mention him!” Ji Jiayu was speechless, putting down her chopsticks, “I don’t eat with you every day; we just happened to run into each other.”

“Oh, oh, don’t tell me, I’m not your boyfriend.”

Jiang Nian’s barrage of words made Ji Jiayu almost dizzy.

Dizzy with anger from the annoying guy, unable to speak.

But still wanting to say a few more words.

Jiang Nian didn’t feel anything about this, after all, they had indeed just met.

Avoiding suspicion for classmates in the same class, if you have a boyfriend, avoid it a little; if you’re single, avoid it…

It depends on his mood; if his mood was mediocre, he would be too lazy to avoid it.

    Coincidentally, the main character appeared.

Yuan Zhengchuan stood in the aisle, staring angrily at the two. His eyes were like a beast about to devour someone, red and fixed on Ji Jiayu.

Why wasn’t he staring at Jiang Nian?

Mainly because Yuan Zhengchuan had just witnessed him and the junior high school girl in Building D, so he felt that the responsibility for cheating should be “fifty-fifty” between the “adulterous man and woman.”

Of course, he wasn’t stupid and wouldn’t say such words out loud.

It was purely out of anger, and from a simple emotional perspective of love. When he could no longer bear it, he questioned his ex-girlfriend.

“Weren’t you going to clear your head?”

“Is it any of your business?” Ji Jiayu was also annoyed, “Who are you to me? Do I have to report everything to you? What relationship do I have with you, please tell me?”

Jiang Nian lowered his head and ate.

Yuan Zhengchuan got a little anxious and blurted out,

“Are you so desperate for a man after breaking up?”

Jiang Nian lowered his head and ate.

Ji Jiayu was truly angry; if it weren’t for Jiang Nian being there, she would have thrown her chopsticks at Yuan Zhengchuan’s face.

The anger rushed to her head, then subsided into calm.

“If you’re hungry, go get some food and sit down to eat with us.” She looked up at Yuan Zhengchuan, “I’m going back to the classroom to do problems in a bit.”

There were still eight minutes until noon dismissal, and a whistle sounded from outside the cafeteria, a signal for classes doing physical education to disperse.

This meant that within two minutes, a batch of students would soon flood into the cafeteria.

Having been warned by the grade leader Ji Ming, Ji Jiayu also didn’t want to make a fool of herself again; she just wanted to be more dignified.

“Can you not stand here, please?”

Jiang Nian was still eating, having forgotten everything before and after, somewhat becoming like “Wang Yuhe.”

    “Okay.”

And so, the two eating face to face became three at the same table.

Yuan Zhengchuan sat next to Ji Jiayu. None of the three spoke, just ate their own meals.

Ji Jiayu finished first, not waiting for anyone. So she naturally got up and greeted Jiang Nian.

    “I can’t eat anymore, I’m leaving first.”

“Mm.” Jiang Nian mumbled a response.

Jiang Nian hadn’t finished eating; his meal was undisturbed by anyone. Even though the mission was still on the System panel, he was not in a hurry; he always had to eat.

After Ji Jiayu left, Yuan Zhengchuan also calmed down.

But out of a certain psychological impulse, he still spoke to Jiang Nian,

    “You two…”

Jiang Nian didn’t respond, and the atmosphere in the room instantly fell silent. It wasn’t until two minutes later that he finally put down his chopsticks and walked away with his plate, as if no one else was there.

Third-year building, he checked the time before going upstairs.

There were still two minutes until dismissal.

Jiang Nian looked up, about to go up, when suddenly a person emerged from the staircase corner between the first and second floors. With just a glance, he recognized the person.

Ji Jiayu stood higher up, and after Jiang Nian came upstairs, she whispered,

    “Thank you.”

“For what?” Jiang Nian showed no reaction.

Ji Jiayu shook her head, “I don’t know, but thank you anyway.”

She knew Jiang Nian wouldn’t talk about what happened in the cafeteria, as for what she was thanking him for…

    Perhaps for preserving her dignity?

But would someone who had an early romance and then broke up in public really care about such things?

Ji Jiayu herself didn’t know; she instinctively felt she shouldn’t care. But her gratitude towards Jiang Nian was indeed heartfelt.

Not only because Jiang Nian wouldn’t spread her embarrassing story, but more so because he remained silent.

She had briefly reviewed the situation afterward; in that cafeteria scenario, Jiang Nian saying nothing was more effective than saying anything.

So, she should consider herself passively owing Jiang Nian a favor.

    The dismissal bell rang.

    “Classmates, class is dismissed.”

    Third-floor hallway.

Jiang Nian leaned against the hallway, occasionally looking back at the Class Four classroom not far away.

    Damn it.

Is extending class a Class Four culture? Why is it always extended every time he comes? Teachers like Qing Bao, who don’t extend class, are truly becoming rarer and rarer.

12:07, a class extension time that even Jiang Nian found ridiculous.

The broadcast in the classroom was already playing safety precautions for preventing drowning, yet Class Four’s math teacher could still continue teaching over the sound of the loudspeaker.

At 09, Class Four finally dismissed.

In the stream of people pouring out, Jiang Nian accurately reached out and caught Xu Qianqian.

    “Wait!”

Xu Qianqian was startled, still holding Song Xiyun’s hand, and looked back.

    “Jiang Nian! Are you sick?!”

“Not sick. Help me bring up a bottle of drink.” Jiang Nian blurted out, “Hurry up. I’ll come to your classroom to get it after you’ve finished eating.”

“You’ve finished eating?” Xu Qianqian asked in surprise.

    “Psychology lecture.”

“Oh, oh, no wonder. It’s quite suitable for you to go.” Xu Qianqian said, but quickly refused, “I can’t bring it. Xiyun and I are going out to eat.”

“Eat what?” Jiang Nian very naturally looked at Song Xiyun.

Song Xiyun had been trying to stay out of it, but suddenly, under the gaze of the Devil King, she felt a chill down her neck.

    “Mixed noodles.”

How terrifying! Why are his eyes so strange?

“What’s there to eat in mixed noodles? Never mind then.” Jiang Nian moved a step to the side, signaling they could leave, “You two go ahead, I’m going up first.”

“Tsk, so mysterious.” Xu Qianqian pulled Song Xiyun and disappeared into the crowd on the stairs.

At the same time, Jiang Nian squeezed his way up the stairs against the flow.

He casually opened the System’s mission panel, and it indeed showed that the mission was completed. 300 RMB was successfully transferred, a light, almost unnoticeable feeling.

Passing through the crowded, sun-drenched corridor, Jiang Nian returned to the classroom.
