Chapter 202 This is not funny
by SunflowerSitting in Yao Beibei’s seat, Jiang Nian felt unfamiliar with the place and didn’t want to speak.
He looked down and saw two comic books in the desk drawer, so he casually pulled them out and glanced at them.
He also unwrapped two candies, putting one in his mouth and the other in his pocket.
Why be polite with Yao Beibei? Just take whatever’s there.
Tao Ran walked in from outside the classroom. With the parent-teacher conference imminent, the grade level naturally had to convene a meeting for class monitors. Last time, Cai Xiaoqing went; this time, it was his turn.
As a servant of his classmates, Tao Ran had no complaints or regrets.
He walked up to the podium, cleared his throat, and conveyed a few matters. They were all the usual platitudes about class hygiene and setting up the parent-teacher conference venue.
Suddenly, Tao Ran mentioned something new.
“Uh, for students whose parents are confirmed to attend tomorrow’s parent-teacher conference, everyone needs to write a heartfelt message to their parents. I’ll hand out the Materials paper in a bit; you must write it, okay?”
As soon as he finished speaking, half the class instantly erupted.
“Holy crap, no way, does it have to be this idiotic?”
“Damn it, it’s another emotional education thing, isn’t it pathetic!”
“Beep beep, I achieved a great score of zero in the game of finding school leaders’ relatives. I’m so happy, everyone congratulate me!”
The class was filled with complaints and wails.
Jiang Nian scratched his face, indicating he felt nothing.
Old Jiang and Comrade Li Hongmei wouldn’t be attending the parent-teacher conference, so he didn’t need to write those awkward little notes.
Unfamiliar with the place, with no one to complain to.
Day one of missing Zhang Ningzhi.
The Materials were passed down from front to back, and even those whose parents weren’t coming took them. No harm in taking them; they’d be perfect for scrap paper, which was as scarce as toilet paper.
Jiang Nian saw Yu Zhiyi in the front row take several sheets, so he followed suit and took several sheets for Yao Beibei.
The reason he didn’t take any for himself wasn’t out of generosity. It was because he usually used Zhang Ningzhi’s scrap paper, and he wasn’t used to inferior paper.

Yu Zhiyi wasn’t keen on writing it; she didn’t know if her parents would come.
If possible, she hoped they wouldn’t. After all, since their conflict, there had been virtually no communication apart from sending living expenses, so it would be awkward if they came.
Sometimes, on weekends, she would hear her roommates cooing on the phone with their parents.
Occasionally, she would feel envious, but most of the time, she felt nothing.
She couldn’t imagine what it would be like to act spoiled with her parents; she only wished they wouldn’t fight and break things during the New Year, so she wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of the neighbors.
“Aren’t you writing?”
A voice came from behind her, and Yu Zhiyi knew who it was without turning around.
“No, my parents aren’t coming.”
Her tone was flat, devoid of emotion. The implication of keeping people at a distance was strong, mixed with the subtext of ‘I’m in a bad mood, don’t provoke me.’
An ordinary person might not have known how to respond, but Jiang Nian was from Class Three.
“I’m on duty tomorrow; I can help you look over it.”
Yu Zhiyi was speechless and turned to glance at him.
“That’s not funny.”
Jiang Nian stroked his chin, thinking for a moment.
“I think it’s alright.”
If anyone else had said that, Yu Zhiyi would have felt offended. She might even have wondered if the person was crazy, but when Jiang Nian said it, it felt quite natural.
No doubt, he was just crazy.
Was he treating her like a cam girl? Idiot Jiang Nian.
Yu Zhiyi felt a certain rebellious urge. The more Jiang Nian launched these indifferent, indiscriminate attacks, the less angry she became. She turned back and started writing the Materials.
After finishing, she turned and said,
“You’d better remember to look tomorrow, or else…”
Jiang Nian didn’t care about her threat; he was just looking for some fun.
“As I see it.”
After evening self-study ended.
Except for the Fifth Group, who had to stay behind to clean and set up the classroom, everyone else left.
To some extent, Jiang Nian’s Group Six still benefited. The hard labor wouldn’t fall to them; they only needed to pour water for the parents tomorrow and that was it.
Waiter, maid, whatever you want to call them.
On the way home, Qianqian was in a good mood.
She was wearing a dark blue jacket and off-white pants. As she passed by a street, the lights from a small shop shone on her, making her already fair skin appear even whiter.
“Tonight, I’m going to watch movies until three.”
Hearing this, Jiang Nian asked,
“Is Uncle Xu home?”
“Why do you ask?” Qianqian immediately became wary and put some distance between herself and Jiang Nian. “He went out of town two days ago; you’re not thinking…”
Jiang Nian retorted, “Aren’t you?”
Qianqian’s face was a little red, and she said coyly,
“That’s not very good, is it? If your mom finds out, you’ll definitely get scolded.”
Under the streetlamp, Jiang Nian stopped.
“No, what do you mean? You won’t get scolded?”
“Of course not, Aunt Li definitely won’t scold me.” Qianqian, like a proud little swan, gave him a disdainful glance. “We—can! Are we the same?”
Damn it, once I get you pregnant, you’ll know if we’re the same.
There were many people at the barbecue stall, and the oil smoke was blown diagonally into the sky by the fan.
This shop’s barbecue skills were good, and there were seven or eight tables set up in the open space in front of the shop. A quick glance showed that most of them were full of people, clinking glasses, eating skewers, and chatting and laughing.
At the outermost table, a group of’social people’ were loudly bragging and shouting. This caused the customers at the next table to frown repeatedly, but they dared not react because their families were present.
Seeing this, Qianqian lowered her head and hid behind Jiang Nian.
“Boss, pack these items.”
He pointed to the menu and skillfully ordered some barbecue items that both of them liked. He paid no attention to the bragging and shouting of the’social people’ at that table.
The county town was a small society; the other party was just’social people,’ not idiots.
Everyone ate their own food; no one bothered anyone else.
Although that was said, he still completely shielded Qianqian. He didn’t try to be clever; he just played on his phone and chatted with her.
“It’s a shame the fruit stand is closed. I’ll check the fridge when I get home to see what fruit is left.”
Qianqian wasn’t exactly bold and meticulous, but she was certainly a bit of a coward.
Although she usually acted bossy in front of Jiang Nian, she would still be afraid if she encountered some strange people. If Jiang Nian wasn’t around, she wouldn’t even come near this place.
A gentleman does not stand under a crumbling wall, unless it’s for demolition and rehousing.
“Hmm, my fridge has drinks.” Qianqian looked up and saw his smooth jawline. Below that was his Adam’s apple, and his skin was fair, giving him a steady feeling.
When the dog-thing wasn’t acting crazy, he was actually quite pleasing to the eye.
Too bad.
The barbecue was packed, and Jiang Nian picked it up and left with Qianqian.
A few minutes later, several young students, both male and female, arrived at the barbecue stall. At the center was a tall male student.
Liu Feipeng was a bit depressed; the talent drain from his small group had been quite severe recently.
After Zhou Yuting got promoted to a higher class, her first move was to cut ties with him. She used to call him ‘Brother Peng,’ but now she wouldn’t even meet up, and her replies to messages were very slow.
He just felt… Zhou Yuting was a bit aloof towards him.
Le Zhi buried himself in his studies, and without Zhou Yuting, he participated in even fewer activities. He completely disappeared as if he had vanished from the earth, leaving the group and deleting contact information.
Young Master Yu, whom he should have befriended, also got offended because he said the wrong thing.
Alas, things had indeed been going badly lately.
What a pity, yesterday the flowers bloomed brilliantly, today they seem about to fall.
“Order whatever you want to eat; I’m paying tonight!” Liu Feipeng laughed heartily, dispelling the gloom in his chest. “First, two cases of beer!”
The few people around him cheered at the news.
The cheers drew the displeasure of the’social people’ at the other table, who cursed a few obscenities. It was roughly about ‘little bastards,’ ‘not old enough’ and ‘xxx’ and’still xxx.’
The cursing was too vulgar, and Liu Feipeng’s followers were displeased.
The most hot-headed one stiffened his neck, his bull-like eyes glaring fiercely at that table.
“What the hell did you just say?!”
“I’m talking about you! What’s wrong?! Little bastard, you’re quite fierce.”
Click, Li Qingrong came out of the bathroom.
Her hair was wet, wrapped in a blue towel. Her face was fair with a rosy glow, her expression cool, and her eyes showed no emotion as she dried her hair strand by strand.
The phone on the table buzzed. Li Qingrong didn’t even glance at it.
Only after her hair was completely dry did she move and look at her phone. Three missed calls, several unread messages, all from one woman.
“Hehe, I heard you have a parent-teacher conference tomorrow; can I come, big sister?”
Li Qingrong lowered her eyes and replied to the message.
“1.”
Soon, another message popped up.
“What does that mean? Am I not worthy of going? I’m sad; I specially rushed back to see you. I didn’t even tell Mom and Dad, only you.”
“I want to go, want to go, want to go.”
Li Qingrong replied, “1.”
The other side seemed to be breaking down, sending eleven messages in a row.
“Ahhh!!! You don’t even want to talk to me!”
Li Qingrong clicked on that woman’s WeChat profile and directly blocked her. The world finally became quiet, and she couldn’t help but lean back in her chair, lost in thought.
After some thought, she clicked on Jiang Nian’s profile, only to find she had no access.
Knock knock knock.
A knock on the door sounded, and Qianqian softly opened it, looking rather resentful.
“Why did you take so long?”
A sliver of light escaped through the door crack, spreading outwards like a thread.
Jiang Nian, carrying large and small bags, his tall figure blocking most of the light. Hearing her resentful tone, he immediately retorted,
“I came as soon as I finished showering. Doesn’t washing grapes take time?”
Damn it, does she really think I was doing manual labor in the bathroom?
“Alright, I misjudged you.” Qianqian was quick to concede, flexible and adaptable. “I’ll help you carry things. Hurry up and come in; don’t let anyone see.”
“Why are we acting like thieves?” Jiang Nian entered the door.
Click, the door closed, and the living room was brightly lit.
Qianqian had just showered, her stray hairs slightly damp, clinging to her cheeks. Her brows and eyes were clean, her skin so tender it looked like water could be squeezed from it, and her eyes held a thin layer of mist.
“You’re the thief. I’m afraid you’ll disturb the neighbors.”
“Disturb the neighbors? Then just don’t shout so loud.” Jiang Nian deliberately hesitated for a moment, and sure enough, the next second he was beaten by Qianqian.
“Say that again, and I’ll twist your head off!” Her tone was fierce.
Jiang Nian raised his hands in a French salute.
“Okay, I won’t say it anymore.”
He was actually quite afraid of Qianqian’s Life Qi; she was a bit petty. After a certain amount of playful flirting, he had to pull back the line, saving it for the next time he wanted to test her.
“Eat, eat, eat, or the barbecue will get cold.” Jiang Nian opened a can of Sprite, raised it, and clinked it with Qianqian’s. “Forgot the front, forgot the back.”
“Anyway, holidays are awesome.”
No, I’m just looking for some fun.
