Chapter 94 You’re the real pervert
by Sunflower“Power outage?” Sun Zhicheng’s first reaction was to stand up. “Holy cow, awesome! Is the power really out?”
After confirming there was no power for three seconds, he joined the other boys in class in shouting.
Someone, in a high-pitched voice, yelled, “I, Sun Zhicheng, like Chen Yunyun!” which immediately made him blush, and he quickly retorted loudly.
He guessed it was Lin Dong, but Lin Dong was talking to Wang Yuhe.
Hearing the commotion, Lin Dong even turned his head, looking surprised, and glanced at Sun Zhicheng, a smile playing on his lips.
Sun Zhicheng cursed under his breath, wondering whether he should explain to Chen Yunyun.
Someone had brought a small desk lamp, and a few spots in the back of the classroom lit up with small lights. The scattered light couldn’t illuminate the classroom, and most people had already left their seats to find their cliques.
He glanced at Chen Yunyun’s seat and his heart immediately sank.
Empty?
The light in the classroom was very dim, and he couldn’t find Chen Yunyun. His heart trembled, and his gaze reluctantly swept towards Jiang Nian’s corner in the front row.
Thankfully, only Yao Beibei, Zhang Ningzhi, and Huang Fang were chatting there. Oh, he missed Zeng You, who was covering his head with his school uniform, either playing on his phone or sleeping. Jiang Nian was nowhere to be seen, which made Sun Zhicheng breathe a sigh of relief.
He probably went out of the classroom, to the corridor.
Thinking of this, Sun Zhicheng got up and walked out, but couldn’t help but look back at Lin Dong. He wasn’t sure what that message this afternoon meant; it was so baffling.
“Don’t compete with Jiang Nian.” Did Lin Dong get some definite news?
With a nervous heart, Sun Zhicheng walked out of the classroom through the back door. Passing Dong Wensong’s seat, he could vaguely hear Brother B complaining that it was too noisy, affecting his studies.
“What’s going on? I was just about to finish the last small question on the math test, why did the power go out now! Oh, I’m really fed up! How can I do problems with all this noise?”
“Disciplinary committee, where’s the class monitor? Aren’t they going to manage this?”
Sun Zhicheng secretly cursed, “Mud horse, you cheap dog.”
The corridor was even dimmer, and several couples were hiding behind pillars, kissing under their clothes. In the corridor of the next class, several familiar faces, boys and girls, gathered together chatting.
He didn’t know why, perhaps because of the weekly test paper grading. Or perhaps because the homeroom teacher was having a meeting in the office building, and the teachers of each class hadn’t appeared yet.
The third-year building was chaotic everywhere, and the noisy sounds made him feel a bit dizzy. He looked around, but didn’t see Jiang Nian or Chen Yunyun.
A strange sense of crisis emerged in his heart, and Sun Zhicheng began to get anxious. It was as if a thin thread spread from his chest, a sour feeling rushing up to his head.
Half-groping in the dark, he continued forward, his heart thumping.
It was unusually muggy today, and it might rain, so the power outage could be for maintenance.
Ahead was the end of the corridor, the toilet on the right, and the stairs on the left. But there was a large open space at the fourth-floor corner with a floor-to-ceiling window.
During breaks, many boys would gather there to chat and play, spacious enough to dribble and pass. Many outgoing girls also stood there, playing and chatting together.
They wouldn’t be there, would they? The two of them?
Sun Zhicheng started to feel uncomfortable just thinking about it, his heart felt like it had been punched, aching terribly. Anxiously, he dragged his stiff body over.
He could already hear Chen Yunyun’s laughter.
She asked, “Is that true or false?”
“Of course it’s true, why would I lie to you?” Jiang Nian’s voice echoed vaguely, becoming clearer the closer he got to the corner. “…Is the bride price expensive?”
Boom!
A thunderclap exploded in Sun Zhicheng’s mind, and a seed of pain sprouted in his chest, tearing through his flesh in just a few seconds and growing into a towering tree.
Had their relationship already reached this point?
He trembled all over, as if falling into an ice cave, unable to bear listening further. Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly heard another girl’s voice besides Chen Yunyun’s.
“Jiang Nian, why are you asking about the bride price in Yunmu Town? Could it be, haha…”
Li Hua’s voice suddenly rang out, “You’re thinking too much. Jiang Nian and I made a bet. We wanted to prove that not every place in Zhennan is so outrageous.”
“Bet what?”
“A bottle of Scream.” Jiang Nian said, “And calling me ‘Dad,’ plus a surrender ceremony.”
“Tsk, Scream doesn’t taste good.”
“It’s not meant for drinking anyway. Don’t you think the bottle is more…” Li Hua retorted, “Let’s not talk about that much, just give us the data.”
“Are you sick, you pervert?”
“I know, I know.” Sun Zhicheng emerged from the darkness, chuckling, “I know about Yunmu Town and Liao Juan’s side. Just ask me.”
“Sun Zhicheng?” Chen Yunyun looked slightly surprised, “Why are you here?”
The dark stairwell corner.
The few people who had just been chatting suddenly fell silent. Jiang Nian, Li Hua, and Liao Juan turned their gazes to Sun Zhicheng, and the pressure instantly shifted.
Sun Zhicheng couldn’t see their faces clearly and suddenly became nervous, but luckily, he had already prepared an excuse.
“Going to the restroom. I just passed by and heard you talking.”
“Has the teacher arrived?” Chen Yunyun asked.
Logically, the three should have spoken. When she asked a second time and the three remained silent, Sun Zhicheng instantly felt incredibly awkward, the oppressive feeling hitting him head-on.
“Haha, not yet. You guys can chat freely.”
“Oh, oh.”
Sun Zhicheng made an excuse to use the restroom and left awkwardly. This time, he really did go to the restroom.
Jiang Nian observed the entire time. He didn’t speak because he wasn’t familiar with Sun Zhicheng. If it was just casual chat, there was no need to speak, as saying the wrong thing would be pointless.
Li Hua was too lazy to talk; he wasn’t in the same group as the ‘niche guy’ anyway. He figured Chen Yunyun would handle it since they were in the same group.
Liao Juan didn’t speak because she saw that neither Jiang Nian nor Li Hua were speaking. She assumed there was a conflict between the boys, and she wasn’t the type of person who could mediate.
So she also kept silent, leaving it to Chen Yunyun.
Chen Yunyun was mortified; they had been chatting so nicely. Chatting in the dark, with the dim light obscuring their expressions, the topics were bolder than usual.
As soon as Sun Zhicheng arrived, the other three instantly fell silent.
She was practically curling her toes in embarrassment, but then she thought that Sun Zhicheng hadn’t meant to. He had kindly come to chat, and they were in the same group, so it wasn’t right to get angry at him.
So she could only bite the bullet and speak, quickly ending the conversation.
After Sun Zhicheng left, there was a few seconds of silence, then Jiang Nian suddenly spoke, breaking it.
“Where were we just now?”
“I know, Yunmu Town.” Li Hua turned, smiling at Liao Juan, “You should tell us too. We’re just making a bet, we won’t spread it.”
Liao Juan blushed a little. Could such a thing be discussed? Wouldn’t it be like a commodity? Although the bride price in various towns and villages in Zhennan was indeed expensive, each family kept it a closely guarded secret.
“About 260,000 yuan,” Chen Yunyun suddenly said.
“Ah!” Li Hua looked a bit despairing, turning to Liao Juan.
After a moment of hesitation, Liao Juan reported an even higher figure.
Li Hua knelt, in front of the two girls. He assumed a half-kneeling posture in the Void Realm, bowing humiliatingly to Jiang Nian, lowering his head and saying loudly.
“Father, I have lost!”
“Hahaha, you may rise. Remember to bring a bottle of Scream tomorrow.” Jiang Nian said triumphantly, “Bro, I was born in Zhennan, so I was already half-defeated. How could I lose a bet?”
Chen Yunyun and Liao Juan exchanged glances, their expressions a little hard to maintain, their gazes complex.
Are boys all this childish?
“Let’s go, let’s go, back to the classroom. The homeroom teacher will probably be here soon.” Liao Juan urged, pulling Chen Yunyun to leave, “It looks like it’s going to rain.”
Chen Yunyun struggled slightly; she hadn’t chatted enough. She didn’t have any special intentions, she just found Jiang Nian very interesting and enjoyed talking to him.
“If it’s going to rain soon, we might be dismissed early.” Jiang Nian also walked out, turning to ask Li Hua, “Hua, did you bring an umbrella?”
Li Hua’s heart warmed, “I did, don’t worry.”
“Good, if it rains, lend it to me.”
“You bastard!” Li Hua’s defenses broke in a second, and he mock-kicked Jiang Nian, “Go to hell!”
“Haha, I’m going to the restroom.” Jiang Nian walked towards the restroom, and turned to his good brother, extending a dual-queue invitation, “Hua, coming?”
“No, no.” Li Hua walked along the corridor towards the classroom.
Chen Yunyun and Liao Juan slowly walked together behind them. Halfway there, Chen Yunyun suddenly leaned close to Liao Juan and whispered something, then also turned and walked towards the restroom.
At the end of the corridor, in the darkness, Chen Yunyun just waited outside the restroom.
She planned to give Jiang Nian a surprise and began to anticipate what he would say. Even she herself didn’t realize that the anticipation was slowly consuming her.
Jiang Nian had just come out of the restroom after relieving himself, and suddenly looked up to see Chen Yunyun standing far away outside. He was startled at first, then smiled, and turned to wash his face.
Wiping the water off, he asked, “Sister, the power’s out now, don’t scare me like this.”
“Aren’t you scared? What if I really am a ghost?” She leaned against the wall, hands behind her back, smiling in the darkness, “Chen Yunyun has already gone back to the classroom.”
Jiang Nian walked towards her, reaching out to pinch her face.
“I’ll know if you have a temperature.”
Chen Yunyun watched the handsome hand reach out, smiling and tilting her head to dodge it.
“Did I scare you?”
“Yes, yes, you scared me.” Jiang Nian turned, and while walking towards the classroom, he rubbed his wet hair on his forehead, “Let’s go back.”
“Hehe, you’re talking nonsense, you’re not scared at all.” Chen Yunyun followed with light steps, her mouth curved high, her tone unconsciously becoming sweet and syrupy.
Their figures receded into the distance, leaving only faint voices.
“Real ghosts don’t have smelly feet. Do you dare to take off your shoes?”
“Wow, you’re the real pervert.”
“Overrated, overrated.”
“Who’s praising you~”
Back in her seat, Chen Yunyun’s smile still hadn’t faded.
Jiang Nian was too interesting, more interesting than all the boys she had ever met.
A thought suddenly popped into her mind: it was a pity their seats were too far apart. Otherwise, class and after-class would definitely be fun and not boring.
Sun Zhicheng was a little uncomfortable; he had been staring at the classroom door. He found that only Li Hua and Liao Juan had returned, and Jiang Nian and Chen Yunyun were gone again.
But he didn’t dare to go look, afraid of facing such an awkward situation again. He tried to be optimistic, what if they ran into other classmates and were still chatting over there?
He waited anxiously for a long time, and time became incredibly drawn out at this moment.
The moment Chen Yunyun entered the door, even though the classroom was dim with only a few small desk lamps, Sun Zhicheng still noticed; his heart recognized her first.
Chen Yunyun didn’t seem to notice him, and his carefully prepared eye contact fell flat.
To be honest, he felt a little disappointed.
Fortunately, Chen Yunyun didn’t seem to have any intention of looking for Jiang Nian either. She returned to her seat and started chatting with Wang Yuhe, seemingly about returning to the dorms.
Sun Zhicheng couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, glad that things had at least returned to normal.
He took out his phone and opened his chat history with Lin Dong. He stared at Lin Dong’s message, “A-Cheng, give up,” for a long time, his fists involuntarily clenching.
His grades weren’t bad, and he had no worries about getting into a good university. His family background was good, leaving Jiang Nian ten streets behind, except for his slightly inferior physique.
Where was he inferior?
Soon, the homeroom teacher, Old Liu, arrived late. Looking at the messy class, with students everywhere chatting, he was a bit speechless, but too lazy to manage it.
“Announcement, due to power maintenance, the school has decided to dismiss classes early.”
As his words fell.
The class immediately cheered, “Oh!” The liberal arts class on the other side of the corridor was singing. The girls’ voices drifted faintly through the corridor into Olympiad Science Class Four.
“Oh!!! Holy crap! Dismissed!”
Some stood up, some banged on tables to stir things up, and more people were already packing their bags.
“Quiet!” Old Liu forcefully took control, shining his phone flashlight around the class, “I’ll see who’s banging on tables. Whoever it is won’t go home; they’ll wait with me in the office until the last evening self-study to leave.”
This statement indeed worked, and the class gradually quieted down.
Old Liu paused, then continued.
“It might rain heavily tonight, ah, the weather forecast isn’t always accurate, ah. Everything is subject to actual conditions, ah, everyone, don’t linger on the road.”
“Ah, go home early, so you don’t get wet. Also, ah, for morning self-study tomorrow, if, ah, the rain is too heavy, day students are allowed to ask for leave, ah, pay attention.”
“Boarding students are strictly not allowed to miss morning reading. Only some day students who live relatively far away are allowed to ask for leave; some who live relatively close cannot.”
A burst of laughter erupted in the class, and everyone started shouting out their home locations.
Jiang Nian rested his head on his hand, looking at Old Liu on the stage, and couldn’t help but smile, turning to look at Zhang Ningzhi, his deskmate.
“Aren’t you going to ask if you can take leave from Nanjiang Bay?”
Zhang Ningzhi shook her head fiercely, “My dad will drive me.”
“The heavier the rain, the more you should ask for leave, ah.” Jiang Nian said, “If I were you, I’d just sleep in at home; there’s no way I’d come for morning reading.”
Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi asked curiously.
“Then if there’s a heavy rain tomorrow, will you ask for leave?”
“No.” Jiang Nian shook his head.
“Why?” she asked curiously, “Are you studious?”
“Ah, something like that.” Jiang Nian stared at her, half-jokingly, “From the school gate to the third-year building, even with an umbrella, you’ll still get a little wet.”
“I’ll help you… no, I’ll wipe it for you.”
“Oh, oh, thank you.” Zhang Ningzhi was a little confused.
“Hahaha, what are you thanking me for?”
On the podium, Old Liu gave the order, and the whole class rumbled as they packed their things and left.
Jiang Nian carried his bag downstairs to find Xu Qianqian, and also to ask if anything unusual happened in their class due to the power outage. As soon as he rushed to the stairwell, the mission panel popped up.
“【Standing at the Crossroads of Thirty-Eight】”
“Please vote. I wasn’t in good shape yesterday, so I’ll update more today. Thank you, everyone.”
