Chapter Index

The seating arrangement in Class Three was three people per row: Li Hua, Jiang Nian, and Zhang Ningzhi.

This time, the seats were shifted to the back door of the classroom. Zhang Ningzhi’s seat was originally by the wall, meaning she was now in the position closest to the back door in the class.

With no one watching, one could even slip out during class.

Jiang Nian thought Li Hua would definitely like this position; it was a win-win.

    However, Zhang Ningzhi refused.

“No, I’m not switching. The group leader likes to pick at the wall. The time before last, during the weekly test, I saw him use a pen refill to dig a big hole in the wall.”

Upon hearing this, Li Hua, who was moving tables, instantly felt like spitting blood.

“What kind of talk is that?! What kind of talk is that?!”

Zhang Ningzhi glanced at him and said softly,

    “Facts.”

“Facts!!!” Li Hua couldn’t hold back.

He didn’t have any specific requirements for his seat; he could switch or not. Ma Guojun was in the narrow aisle to his left, and sitting next to him was quite enjoyable.

But upon hearing Zhang Ningzhi’s reason for refusing, he still couldn’t help but retort.

“Pure slander! I just opened a small hole out of boredom. Besides, after I got caught, didn’t I fill it back in?”

Zhang Ningzhi pursed her lips, and after a few seconds, she blurted out a killer line.

    “I took a picture.”

Upon hearing this, Li Hua immediately covered his face and let out a sharp shriek.

    It’s over, it’s over!!!

It’s all that damn super jerk Jiang Nian’s fault for corrupting all the group members! Every single one of them is attacking him; the group leader has completely lost face!

Li Hua’s mentality collapsed, but no one cared.

Before his personal little drama ended, Jiang Nian had already pulled back his own desk and chair, as well as Zhang Ningzhi’s.

“Then if we’re not switching, we’re not switching. It’s fine too.”

“Mhm mhm.” Zhang Ningzhi squatted down to tidy her book basket, instinctively thinking this person was leaving, so she looked up and asked, “What are you planning to do this afternoon?”

Jiang Nian was originally about to grab his bag and leave, but he paused.

“Play games, then hang out with pretty girls.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi immediately felt a blockage in her heart, thinking, she knew she shouldn’t have asked him. This person was always like this, nothing good ever came out of his mouth.

    “Oh!”

“Bye bye, I’m going home to sleep.” Jiang Nian was an honest person; what he said was mostly the truth. “I’m a bit sleepy, I might sleep until evening.”

He really had no plans to go out that afternoon. The driving school had given him VIP treatment, so he didn’t need to worry about going out. It mainly depended on whether anyone invited him.

    “Oh.”

Jiang Nian went down to the third floor and didn’t walk towards Olympiad Class Three at all. Xu Qianqian had already left with Song Xiyun, most likely to eat together.

It wasn’t evening, so there was no need to walk home together.

He returned to his home downstairs. Inside the first floor was a small walled courtyard. It wasn’t large but appeared clean, often tidied by elderly men and women.

In winter, on a sunny day, if he suddenly skipped class and came home from school, he could see a group of elderly people gathered there sunbathing.

The weather wasn’t cold, so no one was sunbathing in the courtyard at this time. Instead, a child with a baby face appeared: Zhao Ningning, the granddaughter of Old Lady Wen on the second floor.

“What are you doing?” Jiang Nian was blocked by her.

Zhao Ningning had gotten a small cart from somewhere and was diligently moving bricks. She was digging stones from the courtyard wall and transporting them from point A to point B.

    “Ah! It’s Sunday Big Brother!”

    What the hell was that?

Jiang Nian almost fainted upon hearing it; it sounded so Japanese. He thought this child had no culture at all, and immediately put on a stern face, saying,

“Zhao Ningning, don’t shout random things.”

“I’m not shouting random things. Doesn’t Big Brother only appear on Sundays?” Zhao Ningning said righteously.

Jiang Nian was speechless, “That’s because you’re too lazy. You’re still asleep when I go to school, and you’re already asleep when I come back at night.”

“Impossible!” Zhao Ningning didn’t believe him.

“Facts.” For the first time, Jiang Nian felt Li Hua’s skill was so useful.

He took long strides, stepping over Zhao Ningning’s playhouse cart. Soon after going upstairs, he heard Old Lady Wen downstairs calling Zhao Ningning for dinner.

He unlocked the door to his home with a key, just in time for dinner.

The kitchen range hood was humming, and Li Hongmei was carrying dishes out while looking behind Jiang Nian. After a moment of stunneding, she asked,

“Qianqian isn’t coming back to eat again?”

Seeing Li Hongmei’s desolate expression like a lonely old person, Jiang Nian couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward.

    “Am I not a person?”

“Sigh, I’m too lazy to talk to you, go get your own chopsticks from the kitchen.” Li Hongmei directly ‘couldn’t be bothered to listen,’ as if saying, ‘my dog son is here, come eat at the table.’

Soon, Old Jiang also came out of the study.

    “Back from school?”

“Ah, holiday this afternoon.” Jiang Nian took his seat at the dining table and suddenly said to Old Jiang, “The exams in second year of high school are harder, and there’s more homework.”

“Yes, second year is harder.” Old Jiang sat down, scrolling on his phone.

Jiang Nian thought for a moment, then blurted out another sentence.

“We’ll be divided into different classes in the second semester of first year high school. I don’t know whether to choose humanities or sciences.”

“Huh?” Old Jiang was stunned, looking up at Jiang Nian with a hint of confusion in his eyes. “Why would you think of choosing humanities? You should definitely choose sciences.”

Jiang Nian completely lost it. Damn it, I’m running away from home today!!

This small home can no longer contain this small me!

“Is there a possibility that I’m already in my third year of high school? The college entrance exam is next year, and in third year, we only have six hours off on Sunday afternoons!”

Upon hearing this, Old Jiang was momentarily confused, and then a little angry.

    “Of course I know!”

    Know my ass.

You didn’t even dare to send me to the exam hall for the college entrance exam; you turned on the navigation and sent me to an internet cafe instead.

Jiang Nian lowered his head to eat, thinking, what’s the difference if I’m in this house or not?

Time flew by, and at two-thirty in the afternoon, Jiang Nian woke up groggily at home. Having the habit of taking a nap at school, he had unconsciously fallen asleep.

He rolled over, and there were several new messages on his phone.

The driving school had found someone and already taken care of the paperwork. They told Jiang Nian to download an app to practice questions, and to schedule Subject One when he felt confident enough.

They also hinted that checking in for Subject Two didn’t necessarily require him to be present in person. He could practice first, and if he really didn’t have time, there was ‘black technology.’

It was a one-stop service, truly thoughtful.

The more this happened, the more guilty he felt. Unconsciously, he seemed to have already owed the class monitor a great favor. How could he repay it later?

If it were a man, it would be fine, at most it would be — brother, you got this.

But unfortunately not. Luckily, the class monitor was a girl. But the problem was, he couldn’t just give her money, and he didn’t know what gift to give.

It was impossible not to return a favor, but there was no suitable opportunity at the moment. He couldn’t find a good reason, so he could only wait until he got his driver’s license before giving a gift.

He opened his WeChat message list and looked around; the class monitor hadn’t sent a single message.

After thinking about it, he didn’t send one either.

    He’d talk about it tonight.

Xu Qianqian, however, had sent him a WeChat message, a picture of a table full of dishes. She was eating at Song Xiyun’s house, and it looked like she didn’t plan to come back that afternoon.

To this, Jiang Nian’s attitude was: Timi!!!

    Play games.

If it weren’t for the stricter family planning policies in public institutions in the past, he should have had a younger brother or sister.

He originally thought he would enjoy exclusive favoritism as an only child, but who knew he was no longer the crown prince!

With a rumble, the weather suddenly changed again.

Jiang Nian was lying in his room playing games when the door was suddenly knocked.

“Mom, I’m not in my room.”

Upon hearing this, the door was directly pushed open.

Li Hongmei looked speechless, standing by the door and glancing at Jiang Nian.

She thought, don’t get angry, don’t get angry, he’s her own son.

    After calming herself, she spoke.

“It’s going to rain soon. I saw Qianqian’s clothes haven’t been taken in yet. You can play games later, go across the way and take in all her clothes that are drying outside.”

Jiang Nian looked up, a bewildered expression on his face.

    “Take them where?”

Li Hongmei was speechless, “Take them into our house.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Nian was immediately a little surprised.

“Mom, isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”

“You know it’s inappropriate, and you still ask? Of course, you hang them in their house.” Li Hongmei turned and left; her son was getting more and more unreliable.

Jiang Nian nodded, then seriously finished his game.

Only then did he slowly get up. He listened carefully, and it wasn’t raining outside. It was well known that rain had sound, as well as smell and shape.

Hmm, the shape of the billowing curtains.

Jiang Nian gloated for a while, but as soon as he stepped out into the hallway, he was splashed in the face by wind and rain, and his expression instantly changed dramatically!

    He exclaimed, “Playing with birds!!!”

He quickly fumbled for the key to the opposite door and rushed directly to the balcony. He swept up Xu Qianqian’s clothes, pants, and small items all at once.

Just as he threw the clothes onto the sofa, Xu Qianqian’s video call came in.

Ding ding ding, like a death knell.

After connecting with a beep, Jiang Nian anticipated her anticipation. He rather smugly turned on the front camera and excitedly claimed credit, saying,

“Stop rushing me, I’ve already helped you take in your clothes.”

    “Oh.”

The video call ended, making Jiang Nian curse loudly.

    “Annoying woman!”

No, I’ll take them out and let them get wet again, then bring them back in.

    Damn it.

What kind of modern version of the farmer and the snake, Mr. Guo and the wolf!

    In reality,

Xu Qianqian saw her intimate apparel, along with the hangers, stacked on top, exposed to the air and the camera.

She was a bit embarrassed and didn’t want Song Xiyun to notice anything unusual, so she quickly hung up the phone.

Switching to text communication, she felt much more composed.

“Why do they look a bit wet?”

Soon, Jiang Nian sent two Dragon emoji packs, with a message attached.

“How can they not be wet on a rainy day?”

She didn’t know why, but she always felt that when this sentence came out of Jiang Nian’s mouth, it had an extra layer of mischievousness, making her want to retort.

“Couldn’t you have taken them in earlier?”

Five seconds later, a message popped up.

Jiang Nian: “??? How about you just dry your clothes in my room from now on?”

“Go find a class to attend.” Li Qingrong turned her head and looked calmly at Li Lanying, who had been peeping at her. “Or go home.”

Her gaze was still cold, her brows slightly furrowed, and her pink lips slightly parted.

    “So annoying.”

“Wuwuwu, you’re scolding me.” Li Lanying was completely shameless, like a shadowy creature observing a beautiful girl. “Youth, it’s truly wonderful.”

“Indeed, one cannot simultaneously possess youth and the feeling of youth.”

Upon hearing this, Li Qingrong lowered her gaze, and after a moment, said,

    “Old woman.”

“What!!! Who’s old!” Li Lanying instantly bristled, like a large orange cat ready to devour someone. “Don’t bully honest people, I’ll tolerate it this time.”
