Chapter Index

    “What’s with that expression?”

Jiang Nian, carrying a bag of groceries, was about to squeeze inside.

“No time, gotta be quick. I have to go to school around 1:40. Let’s make this fast. You take off your clothes first.”

    Xu Qianqian: “Are you crazy?”

“Pfft, you grab the clothes first.” Jiang Nian hurriedly put the groceries on the floor. “I’ll change my shoes, you get that apron.”

    Xu Qianqian:

(She suspected Jiang Nian was doing it on purpose, but had no evidence.

However, a lecherous wolf is always a lecherous wolf; no evidence is needed.

    Guilty until proven innocent!

So, when Xu Qianqian hopped on one foot to get the apron, she elbowed Jiang Nian, who had already changed his shoes.

    “You’re no good!”

Jiang Nian, who had inexplicably taken an elbow to the side and been directly labeled, was full of questions.

“No, are you on your period or something?”

Even if she was, she couldn’t just curse at people.

“Hmph, anyway, you’re not a good person.” Xu Qianqian glared at him, then hopped on one leg behind him and tied the apron around him.

Then she clapped her hands and hopped away, feigning an air of ease.

“Go cook, I’m a bit tired.”

Jiang Nian glanced at Xu Qianqian’s one-legged stance, then looked down at the apron on him, and couldn’t help but chuckle.

“I didn’t realize, Young Miss Xu, that you’re so resilient despite your injury.”

    “You’re still talking!”

The voice came from Xu Qianqian’s room, tinged with a hint of exasperation.

    “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t…”

Due to the tight schedule and heavy task, Jiang Nian didn’t dawdle. He first entered the kitchen to wash the rice, then started preparing vegetables while lighting the stove.

Braised pig trotters with soybeans were simmering in the pressure cooker, and then one meat and one vegetable dish would finish it.

Xu Qianqian was actually quite picky; she could taste the bloody smell in meat dishes, but she never felt nauseous eating meat dishes made by Jiang Nian. Unfortunately, Jiang Nian didn’t like to cook and only did so under special circumstances.

While the beer duck was stewing, Jiang Nian ran back to Xu Qianqian’s room to check her foot.

More accurately, he was applying medicine to her injured foot.

    “Does it hurt?”

He squatted in front of Xu Qianqian, gently poked a certain spot with his finger, but didn’t hear Xu Qianqian gasp.

Xu Qianqian was a bit speechless. “Why are you touching my other foot?”

“Oh, oh, I’m sorry.” Jiang Nian switched to applying medicine to the other foot, smiling awkwardly. “I wondered why it didn’t look swollen.”

Xu Qianqian was too lazy to bicker with him. Staying at home for half a day had made her feel a bit suppressed.

With Jiang Nian around, the house became much livelier.

She was a very goal-oriented person, rarely so aimless. Like a little cripple, she couldn’t go anywhere.

She turned her head to look elsewhere, feeling the coolness on her foot.

Suddenly, she felt that this kind of life… was good.

Even if it was very ordinary, even if it was just a little warmth. This reality, however, made Xu Qianqian, sitting at her desk, even more certain.

In this house, the person in front of her would truly be good to her.

On this deep winter afternoon, there was no heating and no air conditioning. Sunlight streamed in through the window, falling on the desk in the room.

    It was a bit beautiful.

    “Hmm, why is it wet?”

She looked down, her eyes calmly sweeping over it, then immediately her eyes widened.

    “Damn it, Jiang Nian!”

“Ah!!! Who told you to drool on my foot!”

“Huh?” Jiang Nian looked up at her, his face innocent. “Did I? Oh, oh, I was a bit hungry just now, I’m sorry.”

“You!!!” Xu Qianqian was practically grinding her teeth.

“Don’t ‘ai’ anymore, I’ll make you a beef stew this afternoon.” Jiang Nian looked up, interrupting her’spell’. “Consider it compensation?”

Hearing this, Xu Qianqian’s anger was abruptly halted, and she swallowed.

    “With carrots?”

    “Mm.”

“Oh, then… will you have time this afternoon?” Xu Qianqian thought of something, her face full of worry. “After all, there’s private study.”

“Just skip class, what’s the big deal.” Jiang Nian stood up, one hand holding the medicated wine for bruises, the other hanging by his pant leg.

Long and clean, like new bamboo after rain, with a slender, wind-swayed frame.

Xu Qianqian’s gaze was fixed on one spot.

    “Won’t you get scolded?”

“Let them scold, it doesn’t matter.” Jiang Nian raised his free hand and gently patted Xu Qianqian’s head.

Then he turned and walked out of the room, his footsteps seeming to head towards the kitchen.

Xu Qianqian tidied her hair, which had been ruffled by the pat, and glanced at the wide-open room door, couldn’t help but purse her lips.

Her phone was placed to the side, and her fair feet dangled by the bed.

    “Hiss~!”

    “A bit cold!”

Around 1 PM, lunch was served.

“Hmm?” Xu Qianqian hopped on one foot to the dining table and pulled out a chair. “When did you make soup?”

    It wasn’t made.

Jiang Nian was halfway through cooking when he suddenly remembered there was no soup.

He originally thought of just making an egg drop soup, but then, thinking of the patient, he simply used money to order a soup.

“Don’t ask so many questions, just eat.”

    “Oh.”

The two buried their heads in their food.

Halfway through eating, Xu Qianqian put down her pig trotter and looked up at Jiang Nian opposite her.

“It seems like there’s too much food, we can save some for the afternoon.”

“Too much food?” Jiang Nian pointed to a few dishes. “So you eat more of the dishes, save the rice, and I won’t have to cook more rice.”

Xu Qianqian didn’t retort, lowering her head to continue wrestling with the pig trotter.

    “Oh.”

After finishing the meal, Jiang Nian stood up, preparing to leave directly.

    “Xu Qianqian, do the dishes.”

Asking a cripple to do the dishes, is that appropriate?

Jiang Nian thought it was interesting.

“Oh, and after you do the dishes, don’t just stay in your room all the time.” He pointed at Xu Qianqian. “Go downstairs for a walk this afternoon, get some sun.”

With that, the front door slammed shut.

Xu Qianqian looked at the messy table and couldn’t help but purse her lips. Then she began her ‘encore,’ hopping on one foot towards the kitchen.

By the time she finished the dishes, it was already 2:30 PM.

The little cripple was a bit tired, the little cripple was sprawled on the sofa. The little cripple stared at the ceiling, with no intention of going out.

She slowly woke up, rolled over, and pressed her phone.

    2:52.

She was a little silent, why wasn’t it 5 o’clock when she woke up?

Then, the little cripple would move a stool to the door, quietly waiting for footsteps to approach, waiting eight seconds after the knock before opening the door.

Xu Qianqian closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep for a while, but still couldn’t.

With a buzz, she received a message.

She opened it and found it was Song Xiyun, who probably sent the message by secretly hiding her phone in her desk during class break.

    “Qianqian, is your foot better?”

“Maybe. (Image)” Xu Qianqian’s reply included a photo, and she boredly typed a bunch of messages. She also glanced at Jiang Nian’s chat window, which was frankly too quiet.

    What was he doing?

Thinking this, Xu Qianqian slumped back into the sofa. A few minutes later, she slowly climbed out of the sofa, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

A quick walk around, then back up to rest, and time should pass.

“I really want to do practice papers.” Xu Qianqian hopped downstairs on one foot. Luckily, she lived on the third floor, and after some effort, she finally made it down.

In the courtyard, several old ladies were playing cards.

Xu Qianqian leaned against the wall to rest for a while, awkwardly turning her head to look elsewhere, until an old lady brought her a small stool.

    “Um… thank you.”

After a serious rest, the little cripple set off on her adventure again.

She hopped out the door, and hopped quite a distance before realizing that she had sprained her foot in this very bumpy alley, immediately regretting it.

What if she sprained her only healthy foot?…

She shook her head, planning to hop a bit further out and then go back. To take another look at where she fell.

After setting a strange flag, she set off again with renewed confidence.

Turning the corner, she stopped far away.

Two workers were operating on the potholes, even bringing machinery. Hot asphalt was being laid, slowly smoothing out the surface.

By the time Xu Qianqian arrived, the pit had already been filled. She was stunned, and in her ears, she seemed to hear Jiang Nian’s voice again.

【Tomorrow I’ll find someone to fill in that bumpy section of the alley entrance.】

    Was it really him?

Because it was so outrageous, Xu Qianqian couldn’t help but ask.

“Hey, Uncle, why are you starting to repair the road?”

“Oh, a young boss asked us to do it.” The worker said loudly, then smiled, “All the roads around here need to be repaired.”

    Young?

Xu Qianqian’s eyes widened, thinking, ‘No way.’

“Uncle, when did he ask you to fix it?”

“Not long ago, at noon.” The worker grinned, shouting over the roar of the machine, “We happened to be nearby, so we just came over.”

“Don’t come closer, it’ll set in two or three hours.” Another worker said, “Speaking of that boss, you can’t really call him a boss.”

“He still looks like a student, he just came to watch for a while. To have this kind of ability at such a young age, he’s quite impressive.”

Xu Qianqian was dumbfounded, thinking, ‘It really was him.’

Did he have too much money with nowhere to spend it?

Had he studied for so long that he forgot the curse of Zhennan’s bride price?

Of course, individual beautiful girls who are perfect from appearance to personality to fashion sense don’t need a bride price.

The little cripple went home, hopping up the stairs, leaning against the wall.

She lay down on the sofa to rest, no longer in the mood to look at her phone. Thinking about what had just happened, her mood was inevitably complex.

What was Jiang Nian’s purpose in repairing the road?

He was the kind of person who, when idle, would even kick the dogs on the roadside; repairing the road was definitely not for the residents of this area.

Xu Qianqian covered her eyes with the back of her hand, her heart a little unsettled.

In the past, watching sweet romance dramas, she always found the scenes a bit boring. After all, who would fall for such a cliché?

But when it happened to her, she felt a little confused.

Second class, during the break. “Here.” Chen Yunyun handed the test paper to Jiang Nian.

“Alright, thanks.” Jiang Nian showed a polite, gentlemanly smile, taking the test paper under Zhang Ningzhi’s nose.

Wanted to touch her hand, but didn’t.

    Hmph.

“Then I’m going back, bye-bye.” Chen Yunyun smiled, waved cutely with her branches in front of her, then turned and left.

“Bye… bye.” Jiang Nian forced himself to stay calm, sat down, “Hey, this test paper, don’t even get me started… don’t even get me started.”

Zhang Ningzhi withdrew her gaze, a little frustrated.

    “What test paper?”

“Oh, oh, a math test paper.” Jiang Nian said, “Last night when we were chatting on QQ, she recommended this set of papers.”

    Classic!

Throw out a small problem to divert attention.

Sure enough, Zhang Ningzhi immediately stopped focusing on Chen Yunyun delivering the test paper in person.

“You two still chat at night?”

    “Occasionally, occasionally.” Jiang Nian coughed.

Zhang Ningzhi’s eyes widened as she stared at Jiang Nian.

“Then why didn’t you message me?”

“You didn’t message me either!” Jiang Nian continued to muddy the waters. “Besides, you usually go to bed by eleven, right?”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi pursed her lips… “That’s true.”

She decided that after she went home today, she would chat with Jiang Nian. Even though they had already talked all day at school.

“Are you online tonight?” Li Hua looked surprised. “Hmm, why didn’t I see you online… Damn it, you deleted me!”

“You’re a red stone, Jiang Nian!”

Li Hua raised his hand and threw a punch, immediately losing his composure.

“You, damn it, can you ever do something decent? You deleted me, I wondered why I never saw you online.”

Jiang Nian: “QQ told me your account was at risk.”

“red stone risk!” Li Hua’s face turned red, and he pointed at him. “You’re even more Heaven-Defying than Yao Beibei, you two are both no good.”

In a flash, the afternoon classes passed.

Jiang Nian directly skipped private study, told Cai Xiaoqing, and then ran off, preparing to cook for the little cripple.

    On the other side.

The little cripple moved a small stool and sat by the door, quietly waiting to open it for him.
