Chapter Index

As night fell, the bell for evening reading rang.

Jiang Nian was hunched over his desk, doing a test paper, with the bright, thin light from above his head illuminating him. His soft, black hair covered his forehead, and the lines of his profile were clean and sharp.

In the cold winter month of December, he was only wearing two thin layers of clothing.

Li Qingrong reached out from the back desk and poked him. Her face was expressionless. She tilted her head slightly, revealing a puzzled look.

    “Aren’t you cold?”

“Cold.” Jiang Nian sniffled, his gaze falling on her hand, “My body isn’t cold, but my hands are a bit cold.”

Hearing this, Li Qingrong hesitated for a moment.

    “Then…”

However, she had just raised her hand.

Unexpectedly, Zhang Ningzhi, who was at the same desk, suddenly turned around and, huffing, threw a pair of pink gloves into Jiang Nian’s arms.

“Here! No need to thank me.”

Jiang Nian chuckled, not feeling embarrassed at all, and put them on directly.

“Now I’m a bit warm again.”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi’s face flushed slightly.

She had been a little impulsive just now and hadn’t thought much of it. The gloves were fresh off her hands, so they naturally still retained some warmth.

Life Qi! It’s all because of that sneaky cat!

“Oh, then take them off.” Zhang Ningzhi leaned on her desk, turning her head away, “You ungrateful small-minded person!”

    “Small… what person?”

    “A small-minded person!”

“No, Ningzhi.” Jiang Nian was stunned, “Mixing Chinese and English is really low. Don’t play that again next time.”

“You are a small-minded person. And here I was, even giving you…” Zhang Ningzhi muttered softly, in a voice only the two of them could hear.

Hearing this, Jiang Nian was somewhat speechless.

It would have been fine if Zhang Ningzhi hadn’t mentioned it, but bringing it up made him recall the memory from that afternoon.

Ever since Zhang Ningzhi delivered the chicken soup, the two teams continued to practice. This time, Jiang Nian, as the striker, received special attention.

The opponents didn’t even care about the ball; three or four of them surrounded him. Forget about dribbling and shooting, he couldn’t even touch the ball.

No matter how he attempted a Breakthrough, he was always surrounded, even by his own teammates.

Li Hua chuckled, moving around the field as if no one else was there.

“Never such a wonderful start! Cheer for me, drink… drink to me! I must cherish this time!”

After scoring a goal, he ran around the field with his arms outstretched, celebrating wildly. He knelt on the ground, celebrating with gusto.

Later on, even their own goalkeeper, Ma Guojun, scored a goal.

Damn it, that was truly idiotic.

But this wasn’t Ningzhi’s fault; it was all Luo Yong’s. If he hadn’t abandoned the team to go on a date at the milk tea shop, it wouldn’t have turned out this way.

Evening self-study was for preparing for the weekly test. As soon as the evening reading ended, Luo Yong returned.

He carried cheap milk tea, offering it one by one to the six ‘living fathers’ of the team. But the few of them were resentful and felt nothing at the sight of the milk tea.

“Take it away, take it away, we drank some this afternoon.”

“No more, I can’t drink any more.”

“Ah, get lost, get lost, you didn’t even train, damn it.”

Jiang Nian also harbored resentment towards Luo Yong. When Luo Yong offered him milk tea, he pushed it away, thinking that if things got really bad, they’d just use a substitute.

    “Did your date go smoothly?”

“Ah, don’t even mention it.” Luo Yong was annoyed, “Everyone from her dorm came, and I paid, but I barely got to say a few words.”

Hearing this, Li Hua couldn’t hold back.

“What kind of date is that? Isn’t that just a pure ATM machine?”

Luo Yong’s face turned red from Li Hua’s comment, and it took him a while to utter a sentence.

    “She’s a bit introverted.”

Li Hua chuckled, thinking to himself that she wasn’t introverted when it came to him paying.

It was a pity that Luo Yong didn’t come this afternoon, otherwise he would have known what a moment of training exchanged for a lifetime of introversion felt like.

I have to say, Jiang Nian is really a bastard!

“It’s fine, learn from your mistakes.” Jiang Nian didn’t say much, “Don’t sneak off during tomorrow afternoon’s game.”

“Don’t worry.” Luo Yong made a promise, but after a moment’s hesitation, he still said, “Brother Nian, I still don’t want to give up.”

“Mmm, just don’t mess up the game.” Jiang Nian waved his hand, having already decided to find someone to replace Luo Yong.

There was nothing bad about it; it would prevent him from causing trouble.

At this moment, Tao Ran entered the classroom holding a stack of test papers and answer sheets. He slammed them onto the podium with a thud, coughed a few times, and said,

“Weekly test. Clear your desks and sit according to your student ID numbers.”

The classroom immediately erupted in a noisy clamor, becoming a sea of sound.

Jiang Nian took off the light pink gloves, stuffed them into Zhang Ningzhi’s jacket pocket, and patted the huffing Zhang Ningzhi.

“Let’s go, it’s the weekly test.”

    “Hmph!”

Weekly test, which meant he could sit with the class monitor again for the exam.

    Yay!

As the aisle was crowded, Yu Zhiyi and Jiang Nian brushed past each other. Yu Zhiyi looked a bit sneaky and whispered,

    “I sent it to you.”

“Huh?” Jiang Nian was confused for a moment, then remembered a certain agreement he had with Yu Huoying, “Oh, okay.”

It’s hilarious, Yu Zhiyi’s sneaky expression.

Everything has to be a cow, right?

Jiang Nian didn’t pay too much attention, thinking to himself that Zhennan really had a certain way about it, making everything feel a bit immoral.

I have a friend who doesn’t really like this kind of stuff.

He originally wanted to take out his phone to check, but realized the class monitor had already passed. So, he also trotted over.

    “Where’s my answer sheet?”

Hearing this, Li Qingrong hesitated for a moment, then handed over the answer sheet with her name already written on it.

    “Here.”

“No, there’s one less answer sheet here.” Jiang Nian pushed her answer sheet back, “I’ll ask Tao Ran for one.”

Soon, Jiang Nian came back with new answer sheets.

He kept one and passed the others back. Just as he was about to sit down, he suddenly noticed there was already an answer sheet on his desk.

Looking closely, even the damn name was already written.

Li Qingrong (crossed out), Jiang Nian.

The handwriting was delicate and neatly arranged. It was just that diagonal slash that was a bit of an eyesore, like a strike-through.

No, doesn’t that mean he’s using an old answer sheet for himself? Even if she’s the class monitor, can she bully an honest person like this?

Swallowing his anger, Jiang Nian gave in. In this day and age, honest boys are easily taken advantage of, being bullied by girls in various ways.

“Then I have an answer sheet, where’s yours?”

Li Qingrong lowered her gaze, looking at the desktop.

    “It’s gone.”

    Okay, okay, telling blatant lies.

“Alright, I happen to have a new answer sheet here.” He sat down and, after thinking for a moment, wrote her name on it too.

He originally intended to just write the class monitor’s name, but then he thought about it and added his own name, then crossed it out with a single stroke.

    Alright, this way it’s auspicious.

Although feudal superstitions are not to be followed, it’s for good luck. It’s an easy thing to do anyway, and Old Liu, the lazy bum, never corrects answer sheets.

Li Qingrong took the answer sheet and looked at it, her expression quite subtle.

    “Mmm.”

Jiang Nian also picked up his pen, and before starting the test, he took another look. The two names side by side indeed felt… you know.

He heard a hallucination beside his ear: Happy wedding.

He shook his head, feeling like he was a bit obsessed lately. He must have watched too little of the’saucy’ stuff; more Bocchi-chan would fix it.

After the Chinese exam ended, Jiang Nian handed in his answer sheet.

Tao Ran was organizing the test papers at the front, and suddenly saw one that read Li Qingrong (crossed out) Jiang Nian, and he immediately couldn’t hold back.

Collecting test papers, and still getting a mouthful of this.

However, when he thought about how Jiang Nian always did unconventional things, he wasn’t too surprised. He thought for a moment and placed the answer sheet on top of the stack.

I can’t be the only one getting this; Old Liu should see it too.

Jiang Nian was unaware. After returning to his seat, he went to the restroom to relieve himself. While there, he glanced at his phone and was instantly stunned.

    Huh?

    No, what was sent?

Besides the organized online physics courses, and PDFs of key knowledge points and problem types,

    There was also a video.

    Gulp, black stockings.

    No, did she misunderstand something?

He asked her to record a short video with her real name, wishing him to score over 650 in the provincial joint exam. It was supposed to be a fun thing between buddies,

How did it turn into this?

    It’s all Yu Zhiyi’s fault!

Li Hua was about to leave and turned to see Jiang Nian fumbling with his belt. He couldn’t help but feel speechless and grumbled,

    “Let’s go, let’s go.”

“Mmm… you go first, my thread came loose.” Jiang Nian looked down, adjusting his belt, “These crappy pants, how did…”

Li Hua: “??? What a dumbass.”

This time, Jiang Nian chose to magnanimously forgive his rebellious son. He silently composed himself for a moment before leaving the restroom.

After saving the physics materials, he casually replied to the message.

    “You’re truly Heaven-Defying!”

“Huh?” Yu Zhiyi replied instantly, proving she was also on her phone, “Eating your fill and then slandering the cook, huh? What kind of person are you!”

“What are you talking about?” Jiang Nian criticized her a couple of times, then replied, “Say that again, and I’ll replace you as the class representative someday.”

“Brother, I was wrong.” Yu Zhiyi immediately caved, “Did you receive the physics materials? Can you pull little Yu up in biology?”

“That’s more like it.” Jiang Nian put away his phone.

Weekly test, fourth period of evening self-study.

The corridors of each classroom were brightly lit, bustling with activity.

Jiang Nian walked towards Class Three, his expression gradually becoming calm. The physics provisions had arrived; everything was ready, just waiting for the east wind.

650 points, a rather subtle number.

Breaking through that thin membrane, he would experience a wonderful feeling he had never known before. He must do it fiercely, slurp slurp!

Cheer for me… cheer for me.

    Holy cow, jujubes.

In the classroom, Yang Qiming looked up at Jiang Nian. After hearing his words, he seemed a little off.

    “I’m playing attacking midfielder?”

He had that “I’m going to fight Sun Wukong” expression, looking utterly incredulous.

“No, I don’t know how to play soccer?”

    “You do, right?”

“Of course not, what do you take me for?” Yang Qiming also got a bit annoyed, “An All-Star athlete?”

“No… Isn’t that right?” Jiang Nian retorted.

Yang Qiming was about to refuse, but then he turned his head and saw Yu Zhiyi and Zhou Yuting both looking at him, and he couldn’t help but flash a ‘Zhang Wei’ smile.

“I, indeed, know a little about soccer.”

Jiang Nian was a bit awkward, but still continued to invite him.

“Come on, our original attacking midfielder is a bit… underperforming. Without you, the All-Star, we can’t win the class match.”

Hearing this, Yang Qiming felt completely refreshed.

    “Hoo hoo hoo, no problem!”

Zhou Yuting looked at Jiang Nian, then at the burly Yang Qiming, thinking to herself that this person was really good at bluffing.

However, she didn’t seem to have seen him play soccer before.

I’ll go watch tomorrow if I have time.

    Chinese office.

Old Liu returned from a meeting, planning to grab his keys and head off work. Go home, take a shower, have his wife light his cigarette, and start his web game!

Just as he was about to leave, he glanced at the collected answer sheets.

    Hmm?

What the hell, Li Qingrong… Jiang Nian?

He thought he had misread it, thinking to himself that he was having hallucinations from the meeting. Was this path as precarious as walking on thin ice, and could he still reach the other shore?

Looking closely, his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.

The name column showed Li Qingrong (crossed out) Jiang Nian, with clear handwriting. He tried to rub it, but the ink had long dried.

Old Liu was frozen for a few seconds, completely stunned.

His class monitor, his hope for promotion and a raise. Even the darling of the entire third-year high school group, how… how could this be!

In that instant, he felt his head spin.

It took him several minutes to recover his composure. He reassured himself that it was probably just an accident; surely, the other one wouldn’t be like this.

He looked down, searching for Li Qingrong’s answer sheet, and pulled one out.

Jiang Nian (crossed out) Li Qingrong.

    The sky had fallen.

Old Liu was furious, wanting to rush to the classroom. But as soon as he lifted his foot, he stopped himself abruptly; he couldn’t do that.

Obstruction, also meant bringing them together.

Forget it, forget it. He’d call Jiang Nian out tomorrow. After all, he still hadn’t settled the score with him for last time, when he led people to skip self-study.

    After evening self-study ended.

Jiang Nian returned the gloves he had worn for one self-study period to Zhang Ningzhi, and at the end, he sharply commented,

“Not warm enough, I won’t wear them next time.”

“You!!” Zhang Ningzhi huffed, punching him in the waist, “You were the one who wanted to wear them!”

“So what? If you didn’t want me to, couldn’t you have just said so?” Jiang Nian had a punchable look, and then his waist was hit several more times.

Yandere Ningzhi is too terrifying; if she can’t have it, she’ll destroy it.
