Chapter 349 What’s wrong? Afraid of being licked?
by SunflowerIn the corridor during evening self-study.
Jiang Nian and Old Liu went to another office to check scores, when they suddenly saw a young couple holding hands and running past them.
Old Liu felt completely ignored and couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward. He turned to Jiang Nian, who was following behind him, and said with a serious expression.
“Early relationships are not encouraged in the third year of high school. Don’t you follow suit.”
Jiang Nian’s eyes showed a hint of understanding, and he nodded, saying,
“Teacher, you can rest assured. If I were to have an early relationship, I definitely wouldn’t hold hands in front of you. I’d definitely give you Face.”
Old Liu:???
Is this right?
He originally wanted to scold Jiang Nian a bit, but then he thought better of it. Teenagers are rebellious; the more you talk, the more rebellious they become.
Teacher: Don’t play with water.
Student: I am the River God.
Old Liu was afraid that if he spoke too much, Jiang Nian might discover a Dao to early relationships, and even more afraid that this person would run off with his class monitor.
“Let’s go, let’s go. You’re talking a bit too much.”
Jiang Nian was confused but still followed Old Liu into a large office, where a group of people sat in front of computers, grading papers.
The scene was quite noisy, with all sorts of gadgets on the tables: thermos cups, fruit, hand warmers, and a Divine Artifact for back support.
“Come with me,” Old Liu beckoned to him, leading Jiang Nian to an unoccupied computer where he sat down.
“Teacher, is the grading speed this fast?” Jiang Nian sat down, a little surprised. “With so many schools in the six cities, are all the test papers graded?”
“Cough, cough, actually there aren’t many schools in total,” Old Liu coughed, feeling a bit awkward, and glanced around.
Confirming no other teachers were looking their way, he then lowered his voice and shared some “inside information.”
“Actually, our school is too bad, and no one wants to play with us. A few weak teams formed an alliance and created a six-city joint exam.”
Jiang Nian let out an “ah” and became even more confused.
“Teacher, is our school that bad?”
“Hey, it doesn’t matter, studying is a personal matter,” Old Liu consoled him. “This is a humble abode, but my virtue is fragrant.”
Jiang Nian instantly broke into a sweat, thinking, ‘Damn, even ‘humble abode’ came out.’ Old Liu, if you talk like that, does the principal know?
“Then this ranking…” “It’s normal for there to be some discrepancies; there are always higher mountains beyond mountains.” Old Liu thought for a moment, then couldn’t help but add, “Our school is actually… not bad.”
Jiang Nian:
While waiting for the computer to boot up, Old Liu also mentioned the progress of the paper grading.
“No one’s Chinese scores are out yet, it might have to wait until Tuesday. How do you generally feel about your performance in this exam?”
“It was alright, I messed up math,” Jiang Nian said.
“Oh, wow, you really did mess up,” Old Liu clicked on a score and read, “Math 113. You need to pay attention to this.”
“You got four multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions wrong, and quite a few in the long-answer section too. You didn’t get the points you should have, otherwise, you should have scored above 120.”
At this point, Old Liu didn’t continue. He had forgotten high school math, and there was nothing more to say.
“You already know your biology score. Your physics score isn’t out yet, but your chemistry score came out first, 78.”
“What about English?” Jiang Nian asked. “Let me see, Teacher Zhuang said this afternoon that your paper seemed to have been graded. Hiss! 146, that’s a good score.”
A look of joy appeared on Old Liu’s Face. English 145 was the dividing line for C9 universities. Even if this was just a joint exam, it was still an achievement.
Jiang Nian silently added up the scores in his mind. Only Chinese and Physics scores were not yet out.
Even though he didn’t do well in Math, English and Biology made up for it. His total score reached 434, still 176 points short of 610.
If he assumed a score of 100 for Chinese, then Physics would need 76 points to reach his goal.
And his once-every-three-days verification opportunity was precisely for Physics. He had also solved three problems through analogical problem-solving.
Physics 76 should be a stable score.
Circling back, it all came down to the blind box of Chinese.
Old Liu refreshed for a while but still didn’t get the results.
He checked Jiang Nian’s previous joint exam scores on his phone. Seeing that his Chinese and Physics were both at a moderate level, he couldn’t help but ask with concern,
“Jiang Nian, how do you feel you performed in Chinese and Physics?”
“Alright,” Jiang Nian said.
“Then there shouldn’t be a problem, only a little over 170 points short,” Old Liu muttered to himself. “It’s almost time to prepare.”
“What?”
“Rising Star, from 400 points to 600 points.” Old Liu patted Jiang Nian’s shoulder. “It’s settled. Let’s see on Tuesday.”
Jiang Nian nodded and told Old Liu that he wanted to return to the classroom.
A middle-aged, balding teacher also came from the other side of the aisle, followed by two students, one boy and one girl, walking towards them.
Old Liu proactively said, “That one over there is the homeroom teacher of Science Class Zero, Class One. The two next to him are students from Class Zero.”
“Oh,” Jiang Nian nodded, brushed past them, and left the office.
Those people were probably also there to check scores. The balding teacher even greeted Old Liu.
“Bringing students to check scores?”
“Yes,” Old Liu nodded, glanced at the two students behind the balding teacher, “How did your students perform this time?”
“Alright, let’s check first,” the balding man was clearly on good terms with Old Liu. “I just don’t know if they can get over 680.”
“How did your student do? He looks a bit unfamiliar. Where’s Li Qingrong from your class? Finished checking?”
“Not yet, probably around 600 points,” Old Liu didn’t hide it.
“600?” The balding teacher was stunned and said in surprise, “You’re too lenient with your students. You’re already checking scores up to 600.”
“Oh, oh, that’s not it.” Old Liu stood up, wanting to share his troubles with the balding teacher before leaving.
He patted the balding teacher’s shoulder and said earnestly,
“His final exam score last semester was 410, Teacher Zhao, you’re the most experienced. Do you think a student who improved by 200 points can be selected as a Rising Star?”
The balding teacher’s mouth twitched, “Haha, certainly… certainly no problem.”
Old Liu also smiled, “Thanks for your auspicious words, Teacher Zhao. I’ll be leaving now.”
It wasn’t until Old Liu’s figure disappeared outside the office door that the balding Zhao Dechang frowned and cursed a few times in his heart.
Like an earthworm, so good at scheming.
What the hell are you doing!
Zhao Dechang checked scores while speaking to the two students, a boy and a girl, behind him.
“The Rising Star award is useless, a trashy competition. You don’t need to worry about it. Just work hard and surpass Li Qingrong from their class first.”
“Improving by over 200 points is quite impressive, and it’s only been three months, right?” the girl exclaimed.
“600 points is a bit low,” the boy adjusted his rimless glasses. “Looking at the total score alone, it’s alright to improve from 400 to 600.”
“But for people with weak foundations, 600 is basically their limit. According to the law of diminishing returns, it becomes harder and harder to improve further.”
“Unless you put in several times more effort, but the increase is still limited.”
“Hmm,” the balding Zhao Dechang nodded, “However, getting into a decent 211, or even a 985, would be a worthy reward for his efforts.”
The other girl didn’t speak, but she clearly agreed with these words.
“Did you say it or not?”
Jiang Nian was cornered against the wall, raising his hands in a gesture of innocence, indicating that he had nowhere to retreat and also reminding the other person that their bodies were about to touch.
“Say what?”
“The biology class representative!” Yu Zhiyi was a bit anxious.
She had run out during the chaos in the classroom and happened to catch Jiang Nian returning. Seeing that he wouldn’t admit it, she immediately lost her composure.
What about what was promised!
“Oh… that, I haven’t said it yet,” Jiang Nian lowered his gaze and said perfunctorily, “I haven’t been in the mood these past two days. Let’s wait until the scores come out.”
“How can you be like this!” Yu Zhiyi gritted her teeth. “In two days, the yellow daylily will be cold. The teacher needs a class representative tomorrow.”
“See, you’re getting anxious again. Who’s the psychological counselor? Have you forgotten?” Jiang Nian said, exasperated, “I can just cover for these two days.”
Hearing this, Yu Zhiyi instantly quieted down.
She thought about it and realized he was right. If it were a fair vote, she already had a position and might be directly eliminated.
The safest method was still to use connections.
“Okay, then you remember, alright?” Yu Zhiyi said nervously, then ran off again.
Jiang Nian watched her leave, and soon after, he returned directly to the classroom. The classroom was noisy, with students chatting, sleeping, and doing homework.
Sixth group.
Zhang Ningzhi was hunched over her desk, writing down mistakes, her quick-drying pen moving rapidly.
Hearing the commotion around her, she couldn’t help but look up. Reluctantly, she made room for him and then asked curiously,
“What did the teacher want you for?”
“Nothing much, just said he’d find me a study partner,” Jiang Nian leaned back in his chair. “I said it’s best if it’s a beautiful girl.”
Study partner?
Zhang Ningzhi was stunned for a moment, then realized he was joking again, and turned away.
“Hmph, you dream pretty big.”
Jiang Nian was a bit sleepy and wasn’t in the mood to continue correcting his test papers. He decided to just lie down and sleep, figuring success or failure would come later.
No one called him in between, and he slept until close to the end of evening self-study.
“Wake up, class is almost over,” Zhang Ningzhi’s voice circled in his ear. She poked him. “Big lazybones, wake up.”
Jiang Nian woke up groggily, rubbing his messy hair.
“I want water.”
Zhang Ningzhi: “???”
After a while, Jiang Nian saw that the little girl didn’t react. Only then did he turn his head and repeat his request to Zhang Ningzhi.
“I’ve finished my water. Share some of yours with me.”
Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi grudgingly took out her pink thermos cup, mumbling reluctantly, “This is my cup, how come it seems like it’s yours now?”
“What are you mumbling about?” Jiang Nian took the cup from her hand and poured a little water into a small glass.
“Anyway, you don’t drink it, so you might as well let me drink it.”
“No, I will drink it,” Zhang Ningzhi snatched back the thermos. “Your hands are dirty. If you get used to using it, it’ll turn black.”
Jiang Nian was stunned by this and looked down at his hands.
“Nonsense, I’ve only drunk from it a few times in total.”
Li Hua’s seat was empty. He had been bragging in the back row for all three periods of evening self-study and only returned two minutes before evening self-study ended.
Ding-dong! Dear students…
After school, Jiang Nian had no desire to linger. Zhang Ningzhi, the moment the bell rang, grabbed her bag and went to find Yao Beibei. He picked up his bag, greeted the class monitor, and walked out of the classroom.
As he squeezed into the crowded corridor, his back was lightly punched.
“What the hell?”
He turned his head and saw a strange and bewildered Face. His gaze shifted, and he suddenly saw two girls slip away from the side.
Chen Yunyun looked back and smiled apologetically at him.
Wang Yuhe, in the crowd, raised her small fist and waved it defiantly.
“Jiang Nian, don’t get cocky!”
Jiang Nian: “Damn… Where did this idiot come from?”
He went down the stairs to the third floor and met up with Xu Qianqian. They were a few paces apart on the stairs, so they couldn’t talk.
It wasn’t until they reached the open ground in front of the third-year building that they finally got together.
“Did you check your scores?” Xu Qianqian asked, feigning calmness and pursing her lips.
Jiang Nian smiled, “Why? Afraid of being flattered?”
