Chapter Index

“Nian, don’t you think my trench coat is cool?” Li Hua strutted around in his trench coat.

“I don’t know if it’s cool, but…” Jiang Nian stroked his chin, “He looks like one of those perverts who open their trench coats to expose themselves if you get too close.”

“red stone, you have no taste.” Li Hua went to show off to Ma Guojun. “Old Ma, you put on your clothes too, I’ll be the head.”

“Get lost, get lost, are you crazy?” Ma Guojun got goosebumps all over his body.

Jiang Nian listened to the surrounding laughter and only felt it was noisy.

He didn’t stand up for evening reading, but instead continued to write his test papers at his desk.

He who has not been to the Great Wall is not a true man, his journey is twenty thousand li.

If you can’t get over six hundred points, you’re still a five-hundred-point wild dog.

However, there were only eight or nine test papers, and he planned to finish them three days early to surprise Qingbao.

Jiang Nian’s state, however, surprised Zhang Ningzhi.

To be honest, she felt a bit overwhelmed by the competition.

She originally wanted to have a little chat with Jiang Nian during evening self-study, but when she turned around and saw him engrossed in solving problems, her mouth immediately pouted.

Now she had to brace herself to avoid falling behind.

The time for one evening self-study class flew by, and Jiang Nian had already finished nearly three test papers. His brain felt a bit bloated, but he had also gained a lot.

As the bell for class dismissal rang, he got up to go downstairs and buy a late-night snack.

He couldn’t get full on just bread and biscuits with such high-intensity problem-solving. His mental and physical energy were rapidly depleted, so he needed enough carbohydrates to sustain him.

That’s why some people get fat in their senior year of high school, fat enough to do free combat.

Part of it is that after eating, they don’t do problems or move. They just deal with homework during evening self-study, and then after school, they binge eat while anxious.

Getting fat makes you tired, and being tired makes you sleepy and hungry.

Jiang Nian wasn’t keen on snacks and didn’t eat much. He just ate pure carbohydrates every day, coupled with high-intensity problem-solving, and simply couldn’t get fat.

In the cafeteria, Jiang Nian and the three of them, including Li Hua, each ordered a bowl of mixed noodles, mixed rice noodles, and various fish balls, tofu, pancakes, and tiger-skin eggs, a dazzling array of food.

The three sat in a row, with food piled up like a small mountain.

Ma Guojun, on the other hand, didn’t eat much; his weight was already quite high.

Even though he didn’t eat when he went to get clothes in the afternoon, he only ordered a bowl of mixed noodles with a fried egg.

    “You two eat so much?”

“Hungry, didn’t eat this afternoon.” Jiang Nian buried his head in his noodles, devouring the chewy fish balls and the tofu soaked in sauce. “Ah, I’m finally alive again.”

“Three bites, one pig, no lie.” Li Hua, with a flatbread in his left hand and rice noodles in his right, swallowed a tiger-skin egg. “Damn it, if I started a live stream, I’d definitely make money.”

“Then you’d have to eat some weird stuff, like chicken butts and such.” Ma Guojun offered advice.

“Shut up!” Li Hua pointed his finger across directly, but after a while, he found it a bit strange, as if someone was missing. “Nian, why aren’t you talking anymore?”

Li Hua turned his head and saw Jiang Nian holding a folded test paper, reading it while eating.

He froze, his lips trembling slightly.

“You bastard! What are you studying for, damn it!”

At the same time, Zhang Xiaofan went up to the fourth floor after the first evening self-study class.

He was dressed in brand-name clothes and wearing AJs.

He brought a small follower, and stood ostentatiously at the door of Class 3 of the Olympiad, randomly stopping a boy.

“Classmate, call Zhou Yuting for me.”

    “What Ting?” Sun Zhicheng asked.

    “Zhou Yuting.”

    “Zhou… what Ting?”

    “Zhou Yuting.”

“Huh? I didn’t hear clearly, what Yuting did you say?”

Zhang Xiaofan’s face instantly changed. He realized that the other party was messing with him.

But he still maintained his composure, forcing a smile.

    “I’ll ask someone else.”

“No need, no need, I’ll call her for you.” Sun Zhicheng said this, but his feet didn’t move, still standing directly in front of Zhang Xiaofan.

    “Call her.”

Sun Zhicheng looked bewildered, “Call who?”

With a boom, Zhang Xiaofan’s blood rushed to his head.

Since he was a child, he had only ever played tricks on others, and had never been played by anyone else.

Zhang Xiaofan looked at the skinny monkey in front of him, thinking, are Olympiad students superior?

I have plenty of money, you have found your own path to death!

    “Are you f***ing sick!”

Sun Zhicheng immediately lowered his voice, explaining humbly.

“Calm down, it’s just a joke.”

Zhang Xiaofan: “…You’re really funny, damn it. Call Zhou Yuting out.”

Sun Zhicheng nodded, walked to the classroom door, and peered inside.

Almost instantly, he pulled his head back and said to Zhang Xiaofan,

“Zhou Yuting isn’t here. I heard her say she was going to the convenience store after class.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaofan was stunned.

“You knew she went to the convenience store all along, why didn’t you say so earlier?”

“You didn’t ask? What should I have said?” Sun Zhicheng retorted, glanced at Zhang Xiaofan, and walked away. “Crazy, he doesn’t even know how to ask a question.”

“Ah!!!” Zhang Xiaofan couldn’t bear it anymore, he rushed forward and kicked Sun Zhicheng in the back. “You curse again! You bastard, if I don’t beat you up, I, Zhang…!”

Just then, the small follower, Zeng Yunde, timely pulled Zhang Xiaofan back. Seeing the eyes of the surrounding people, he couldn’t help but look anxious and whispered, advising.

    “Brother, let’s go, let’s go!!”

Liu Yang and a few others were chatting in the corridor, and hearing the shouting, they all leaned over to take a look.

    “Who’s fighting?”

“Holy cow, it looks like someone from our class got beaten up.”

    “Let’s go take a look.”

Zhang Xiaofan saw a few boys gathering around, and the corridor was dim so he couldn’t see their expressions clearly.

He was startled and realized he had been impulsive.

What was his status? He shouldn’t stoop to the level of commoners.

He didn’t care about anything else, afraid that if he ran too slowly, he would be surrounded. He immediately took off running, and in his panic, he bumped into someone, almost falling. “Damn, don’t you have eyes?” Lin Dong patted his clothes, looked back, “What are you running so fast for, you idiot? Did you kill someone?”

He grumbled as he walked inside, seeing a crowd of people gathered in the corridor.

    “What happened?”

Sun Zhicheng had just gotten up from the ground, surrounded by a group of people asking him all sorts of questions. Both angry and embarrassed, he saw Lin Dong approaching and followed him into the classroom.

Although he indeed had selfish motives and didn’t want to help Zhang Xiaofan call Zhou Yuting, he couldn’t stand anyone being more ostentatious than himself, but he didn’t expect to get beaten.

He sat down in his seat and took off his jacket with a footprint on it.

He secretly vowed to get revenge!

“Brother Dong, help me inquire about someone.”

The second evening self-study class started ten minutes ago.

The well-fed trio of Jiang Nian, Li Hua, and Ma Guojun leisurely appeared at the classroom door, and seeing that the teacher wasn’t there, they simply swaggered in through the back door.

“Awesome!” Li Hua sat down and rubbed his bulging belly.

Jiang Nian didn’t want to be associated with Li Hua, so he sat down and glanced inside his desk. He found a packet of sandwich cookies and a carton of milk in the desk.

No need to guess, it was Chen Yunyun’s emergency rations.

But now it belonged to Jiang.

He turned his head to look at Zhang Ningzhi, and found her diligently working on a test paper. On a small blackboard-style sticky note, today’s tasks one, two, and three were densely written, completely filled.

Jiang Nian was confused, “You have so many tasks today, can you finish them all?”

Zhang Ningzhi stopped writing upon hearing this and replied.

“I should be able to finish half of it.”

“If you can’t finish it, then why write so much?” Jiang Nian was even more puzzled. “If you can’t finish it every time, wouldn’t it just add to your stress?”

Zhang Ningzhi weakly said, “Because… it’s for others to see. When others see my tasks, they also feel stressed.”

    Jiang Nian: “…”

During the break of the second evening self-study class.

Zhou Yuting was called out, and the person who came was Zhang Xiaofan, who had run away during the last evening self-study class.

Jiang Nian and Lin Dong stood together chatting, and they also learned about Sun Zhicheng being beaten. He felt no emotional fluctuation, just purely watching the show.

Zhou Yuting stood by the corridor pillar, a short distance from Class 3’s classroom.

    “You’re looking for me?”

Zhang Xiaofan came to give Zhou Yuting a gift, but he failed to meet the person in question during the last break.

He saw Jiang Nian’s figure from afar, and his smile grew wider.

He ran into a lunatic during the last break.

Now was the main event, with the right timing, location, and people.

He wanted Jiang Nian to watch with his own eyes how his unattainable crush would be conquered by his wealth and humorous conversation.

    And Jiang Nian was powerless.

Ultimately, he would wallow in self-pity amidst anger and bitterness, leaving him with a lasting trauma.

“Brother Nian, do you know that person?” Lin Dong asked, “Why does he keep looking at us, smiling like a dog?”

Jiang Nian touched his face, “I don’t know him.”

Zhou Yuting was getting a little impatient, but she still forced a sweet smile.

    “Do you need something?”

“Oh, oh, isn’t tomorrow the Coming-of-Age Ceremony?” Zhang Xiaofan snapped back to reality, revealing a gentlemanly smile. “I think you might be missing a necklace.”

Zhou Yuting thought to herself that she would be wearing a qipao, so a necklace… well… it’s okay.

“Thank you, what kind of necklace is it?”

Zhang Xiaofan brushed his hair and took out an exquisite gift box from his embrace.

“You’ll know when you see it, beautiful lady.”

A hint of vanity rose in Zhou Yuting’s heart; she was already looking forward to a jewelry necklace. She took the box and opened it, only to find a… handmade necklace of ordinary material.

“You know what? Ever since I saw you last time, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you.” Zhang Xiaofan said with a look of deep affection, looking into Zhou Yuting’s eyes.

“Yuting, this is a necklace I personally made for you. It embodies everything I want to say to you, and I hope you like it.”

Zhou Yuting was petrified. She glanced at the box in her hand.

“Thank you, but…” The next second, the handmade necklace, along with the box, was stuffed back into Zhang Xiaofan’s hand.

“My mom told me not to accept expensive gifts from others, so I appreciate the thought.” Zhou Yuting forced a smile, “Please take the gift back.”

Zhang Xiaofan froze, his face quite awkward.

Who do you think you’re rejecting the love of!

He really wanted to loudly tell Zhou Yuting that not just anyone was worth his time to make a handmade gift for.

What an uncultured bumpkin, truly clueless.

Suddenly, a light bulb went off in Zhang Xiaofan’s head.

He thought of a scene from a TV show, and so he loudly said.

“I don’t take back gifts I’ve given. If you don’t want it, just throw it away.”

With a *smack*, Zhou Yuting threw the gift on the ground and apologized.

“I’m so sorry, I really can’t accept it.”

After saying that, she walked away without looking back.

Leaving only Zhang Xiaofan in disarray in the wind.
