Chapter Index

Jiang Nian was half-asleep, his brain temporarily offline.

Habit was now in control of his brain.

Boys whose brains are always taken over by their lower bodies are not good boys. They might not be able to control themselves late at night, always indulging in some deoxyribose.

    Like Li Hua.

When those words entered his brain through his eyes, Jiang Nian only performed a simple logical process.

    “Okay.”

After replying, he rolled over and fell back asleep.

The next day, he woke up from a deep sleep.

He glanced at his phone while washing up and was instantly bewildered.

What did he even reply yesterday?

It was a good thing he didn’t call her ‘baby’ directly, otherwise, he’d be mortified this morning. But more importantly, why did Li Qingrong tell him not to call her ‘class monitor’?

He brushed his teeth, staring at himself in the mirror.

After he became familiar with Cai Xiaoqing, he would either call her by her name or simply omit it. He would only call her ‘disciplinary committee’ when he remembered.

Logically speaking, he and Li Qingrong were clearly more familiar than he was with Cai Xiaoqing. So, constantly calling her ‘class monitor’ seemed a bit too formal.

What should he call her then?

Calling her by her name felt strange, a bit awkward. After all, she was the class monitor, different from the disciplinary committee. Calling her Qingrong? That would be too frivolous.

Even as Jiang Nian left with his bag, this question remained unanswered.

Sigh, I’ll see how it goes.

Jiang Nian walked to school while eating breakfast. After going upstairs to get hot water, he leaned back in the last row of the classroom. It was chilly on a winter morning.

After leaning for a while, he instantly sprang up.

“Damn it, why is there a draft in the back row?”

It was still dim outside, and there were only a few people in the classroom.

Suddenly, someone entered the classroom from outside the door.

Huang Fang came in, carrying a thermos. She placed the cup on the table and complained.

“The water heater on the fourth floor is broken, why hasn’t anyone come to fix it yet?”

“Don’t wait, it won’t be fixed for at least half a month,” Jiang Nian pulled out the unfinished math test paper from his backpack and began to comment sharply.

“These bastards are pretty enthusiastic when it comes to making people top up their water cards.”

Huang Fang was dumbfounded, thinking, what a deep-seated grudge.

She only complained a couple of times, her anger was fake, and it would pass soon. But Jiang Nian didn’t seem fake; he really seemed to have a bone to pick.

“Did you ever have a conflict with the person who tops up water cards?”

    “No, I just kicked him.”

    “Impressive.”

“Fangfang, do you still have money on your water card? Next time I’ll top it up for you for free. I haven’t seen that bastard who tops up cards in a long time. I need to go scold him a couple of times someday.”

“Huh?” Huang Fang immediately started sweating like a small yellow bean. “N-no need, thank you.”

If someone else said that, she would at most think they were joking. But when Jiang Nian said it, she subconsciously felt it was true, and perhaps even understated.

After a while, the first batch of people to arrive in the classroom came.

No one from the sixth group was there; Jiang Nian wasn’t very familiar with them. Everyone he knew was lazy in winter, either arriving just in time or late.

It wasn’t until half an hour later that the classroom gradually filled with more people.

Zhang Ningzhi arrived first, greeting him with a crisp voice. After putting down her backpack, she started pulling out test papers, then secretly turned to look at Jiang Nian.

“Have you finished all the test papers?”

Jiang Nian heard this and said, “You’re guarding against me, not letting me copy, right?”

“No, you have to do the test papers yourself,” Zhang Ningzhi tried to reason with him, her face serious. “If you copy now, what will you do if you can’t do it during the exam?”

Jiang Nian grinned, pulling a test paper from his desk.

    “Finished.”

Zhang Ningzhi was instantly furious, thinking this person was truly boundless in his meanness. The more she thought, the angrier she got, and finally, she gave Jiang Nian a light punch.

    “Don’t talk to me!”

Jiang Nian whistled and went to play with Ma Guojun Ma Guojun.

    Morning reading.

Sun Zhicheng recited a few ancient poems, then immediately became breathless and couldn’t recite anymore.

His condition wasn’t good today, maybe next time.

In his pants, that hard object had just vibrated. Yes, it was his phone, a message from the online friend he’d been chatting with intensely these past two days.

He didn’t know where the other person was from; he had never asked.

She seemed to have just started university, as for which university. Out of politeness, Sun Zhicheng did not lift this veil of mystery that was unfavorable to his ‘hmm-hmm’.

Lin Dong, who was beside him, finished reciting the classic lines of the Ode to Red Cliffs, scratched his face, and turned to look at him.

“A-Cheng, why are you being such a simp in your chat again?”

Some time ago, Lin Dong personally taught Sun Zhicheng the art of online chatting. How to improve his emotional intelligence during chats, and how to flirt with online acquaintances.

He also corrected his simping habits, so he wouldn’t be led by the nose.

But the master leads the way, and practice is up to the individual.

“I’m not simping, Brother Dong,” Sun Zhicheng looked left and right, lowering his voice. “Brother, she’s different, really, I’m very happy chatting with her.”

Lin Dong was bewildered, thinking, who isn’t happy chatting with? So he asked.

    “How is she different?”

“She’s a very good person,” Sun Zhicheng said rather awkwardly.

Lin Dong understood, thinking, you really deserve to die.

    “Let me see.”

The girl said she wasn’t feeling well, and Sun Zhicheng immediately added, asking if she wanted to go to the hospital. The rest were bits and pieces of warm tips.

Lin Dong barely glanced at it; the chat log time was just now.

“Damn it, you never cared about me that much.”

“How can that be the same?” Sun Zhicheng snatched the phone back, smugly saying, “Brother Dong, you don’t need to be envious, just continue reading your book.”

Lin Dong was speechless but too lazy to ask more, so he raised his Chinese textbook.

“My heart yearns for you, my heart aches for you.”

Sun Zhicheng pouted, glanced at the noisy classroom. Then he happily lowered his head to his phone, continuing to chat with his online acquaintance.

    “Drink more hot water.”

    “Can’t drink, my throat hurts.”

Seeing this, Sun Zhicheng’s heart suddenly thumped.

Last time he chatted with a girl, she also said her throat hurt. At that time, he even caringly listed several medicines and told her how to relieve it.

The other party said no need, it would be fine in a few days.

Sun Zhicheng, for some reason, asked if she had caught a cold from staying up late. The other party replied with a crying emoji, “Someone gave me a BEEP.”

Although they had already unfriended each other, the old shadow had not dispersed, and Sun Zhicheng couldn’t help but feel a little scared.

“Did you catch a cold from staying up late and not sleeping enough?”

Just as he was filled with anxiety, she replied with a whoosh.

    “Yes, my head hurts.”

Hearing this, Sun Zhicheng couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

He thought to himself, ‘I’m just like that, once bitten by a snake, twice shy.’ Where could there be so many messy things online? How could his luck always be bad?

Tap, tap, tap, he lowered his head and typed a reply.

“Next time you stay up late, make sure to cover yourself with a blanket! (Playful)”

    With a whoosh, she replied.

    “No, it’s not that. (Awkward)”

    “I want to, but I don’t have a blanket. (Laughing-crying)”

“Last night I had a blast with my boyfriend all night.”

When he saw the other party’s reply, Sun Zhicheng’s expression instantly became blank.

On Thursday morning, there were two consecutive Chinese classes, and Zeng You slept soundly.

He woke up groggily when the exercise bell rang.

He looked back and found that only Jiang Nian and Zhang Ningzhi were doing problems. Li Hua was also sleeping with his head on the desk, and he immediately felt relieved.

The group leader was also doing it, so the law wouldn’t punish the masses.

But even if Old Liu remembered, it didn’t matter, he had already been targeted anyway.

Yao Beibei walked to the back row, about to invite Zhang Ningzhi to go down for exercises together. She turned around and saw Li Hua sleeping, and couldn’t help but reach out and slap him hard.

    “Wake up!”

Li Hua sprang up, wiping the drool from the corner of his mouth.

    “Time for exercises?”

“Yeah, let’s go,” Jiang Nian took off his hoodie, casually stuffing it into the bag where Zhang Ningzhi kept her school uniform. “So slow, no one’s waiting for you.”

“What’s your hurry? I’m just…” Li Hua stood up, but was suddenly pulled back down.

He was bewildered. He looked down and saw that both of his shoelaces had been untied and tied to the leg of the desk. He didn’t need to guess who did it, and he instantly turned red with anger.

    “Damn it!”

But when he looked up, Jiang Nian was nowhere to be seen.

During the third class, Xi Bao walked around the classroom, lecturing with a small microphone.

She happened to wander to the last row and glanced at Jiang Nian’s seat. Seeing him working on a comprehensive science test paper, she didn’t bother to intervene, instead leaning against Li Hua’s desk to lecture.

Li Hua didn’t understand what was being said, and with nothing to do, he began to carefully examine the small microphone on Xi Bao’s waist.

He saw a button with an unfamiliar English word written on it.

He reached out his hand, as if by some mischievous impulse, and tried pressing it.

Xi Bao’s small microphone instantly went silent.

In an instant, Xi Bao turned around and looked at Li Hua, who was almost petrified. Everyone in the class turned their heads, their gazes almost all focused on Li Hua.

    “Are you asking for trouble?”

“Teacher, Jiang Nian told me to do it.”

Jiang Nian, who was doing his test paper, looked up, completely bewildered.

    “???”

Xi Bao ignored Li Hua, made him stand up, and continued teaching.

    After school at noon.

Jiang Nian was still thinking about how he had habitually replied to the class monitor’s message while half-asleep last night; the chat had stopped after that ‘Okay’.

    Okay what, and then what?

When he saw the class monitor this morning, she didn’t seem any different, nor did she come to the back row to find him.

He had originally planned to chat with the class monitor, but the first-row seat was too conspicuous; he would have to lean on the podium to talk to Li Qingrong.

More importantly, he didn’t know how to bring it up.

This delay dragged on until after school at noon. Jiang Nian deliberately didn’t rush out immediately. Instead, he pretended to continue writing test papers until most of the class had left.

At twelve fifteen, Jiang Nian estimated that the time was about right.

He stood up directly, ready to go chat with Li Qingrong.

He would try to sound her out again, to see what he should call her appropriately. Or simply not call her anything, just omit her name, which was quite convenient anyway.

He had just walked from the back row to the edge of the podium, before he could even speak.

Suddenly, Nie Qiqi popped out from the side.

    “Class monitor, going downstairs together?”

As she spoke, Cai Xiaoqing also walked over from the middle of the second group. These two, plus another girl, surrounded Li Qingrong.

Jiang Nian was stunned, a mouthful of old blood stuck in his throat.

Damn it, he forgot the class monitor had her own clique!

But she really had to go home for lunch, so what was all the time he had just wasted for?

    All those lost meals!

Sunlight poured in through the window, bathing Li Qingrong, who sat upright.

There were only a few messy ink dots on the newly opened scratch paper.
