Chapter Index

    Boom! Splash!

Outside, the wind howled and the rain poured.

Inside the classroom, the curtains were tightly drawn, the lights were bright, and the air was stuffy and damp.

It was still a weekly test in the morning, but aside from changing seats, the atmosphere was no different from a normal self-study session with test papers.

On the podium, the math teacher was solving problems while invigilating.

A wave of thunder rumbled, and the class immediately erupted in a chorus of girls’ screams. There were also some strange sounds mixed in, making it hard to bear.

    “Ah!”

“You’re a guy. What the hell, where are you grabbing?”

“The boys in this class are really perverted.”

Wang Yuhe, taking advantage of the math teacher’s inattention, quietly pulled back the curtain and glanced outside, seeing the rain pouring down like a waterfall.

She was startled, then slumped back onto her desk, smelling the ink from the test paper. She hadn’t expected the rain to be so heavy; it wasn’t like this during the last class.

This couldn’t help but remind her of a disaster movie she had seen before. At first, people thought it was just a light rain, until it rained continuously for a week.

The entire residential area was submerged, followed by communities and urban areas, and everything in sight turned into a rolling, muddy-yellow ocean.

Later, the male and female leads suddenly started dating, so she stopped watching.

Zhang Ningzhi’s seat for the weekly test was by the window, and a clap of thunder nearly scared her to death.

She remembered the last time it thundered, she had quietly confided her worries to Jiang Nian. But that heartless guy told her a story about ball lightning to scare her.

He claimed that during heavy rain, a floating ball lightning would appear, and anyone who touched it would turn into a pile of dust.

At that time, Zhang Ningzhi was so angry that she ignored him for two classes. She even thought that if he knew he was wrong, she might mercifully reconcile with him.

But when she turned around, she found him chatting with Li Hua.

Now, Zhang Ningzhi, for some reason, remembered it again. She was terrified that a lightning bolt might strike into the classroom, and she would happen to be sitting miserably by the window.

If an accident occurred, she would be the first to bear the brunt.

Fortunately, the rain outside was slowly diminishing, and no accident occurred.

The heavy rain lasted for a full hour, only slowly subsiding as the math weekly test was about to end.

    At the same time.

Jiang Nian was also writing his math test paper, feeling a bit rushed. He was stuck on a problem, and the seat was a bit cramped, making him feel somewhat annoyed.

They had changed seats last Sunday, but for weekly tests, after a while, everyone stopped caring. As soon as the test was over, they’d return to their original seats and do whatever they wanted.

Before, they would at least clear their desks, but now they just put their books under the chair. The seats were also a bit narrower, making it feel very restrictive.

Even if he was taking the weekly test with the class monitor, it was still the same.

Li Qingrong turned and glanced at the squirming Jiang Nian.

Her gaze held a hint of curiosity as she looked at his test paper. She noticed he seemed unable to solve a problem and lowered her eyes.

Jiang Nian was engrossed in calculations when he suddenly felt someone tap him from the side.

He was about to turn his head when a slender, fair finger entered his field of vision. As if in slow motion, it was followed by a fair hand.

He had to admit, the class monitor’s hand was really fair.

He watched as it paused on his scratch paper for a moment, then landed on one of his steps, tapping it and gesturing a number.

    3.

Why did it look like an OK sign?

Jiang Nian was unsure, his expression slightly hesitant.

He thought, someone like the class monitor shouldn’t be gesturing OK, right? So it must be 3, but the number he calculated wasn’t 3 at all. How did she get it?

Li Qingrong saw that he was still hesitating and was a little puzzled.

She thought about it; Jiang Nian shouldn’t be unable to even calculate a 3. It must be because of something else, but to be safe, she’d write it down.

So, Li Qingrong gestured again with her finger on the scratch paper.

Jiang Nian’s mind was wandering, thinking, what a beautiful hand. If she were his girlfriend, in the first second of being together, would he hold her hand or lick it?

It was a bit perverted, but that was his true thought.

Li Qingrong saw that he still had no reaction, so she withdrew her hand. However, she couldn’t help but glance at him again, with a hint of helplessness.

As if saying, what to do if he’s a bit stupid?

Jiang Nian didn’t care at all and immediately turned to look at Li Qingrong’s answer. Since it was already no different from cheating, he might as well go all the way.

He successfully saw the answer, square root of 2.

    The dismissal bell rang.

The sky was still dark, and the lights were on in every classroom on the third-year floor.

Those with umbrellas had already started leaving, while those without were anxious. Some asked boarding students to bring them umbrellas, while others simply ran home in the rain.

Luo Yong estimated the rain outside and was still hesitating whether to just make a dash for it.

He was neither a boarding student nor a day student, but had rented a place in the teacher’s apartment complex outside the school. It was very close to the school, only about a hundred meters away.

Living alone had many benefits; daily meals and accommodation were convenient. He could also go back to his rented place for a nap in the afternoon, though it was a bit wasteful of paper.

As he was hesitating, someone suddenly tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and found it was Lin Dong.

    “Hmm?”

“Didn’t bring an umbrella?” Lin Dong asked.

“Yeah, sigh.” Luo Yong sighed, troubled, “I wonder if the rain will let up a bit later. Rushing out now might be a loss.”

“What are you afraid of? If it rains harder later, it’ll be an even bigger loss,” Lin Dong said.

Luo Yong was persuaded and turned to ask Lin Dong.

    “Are you going?”

    “Going!”

The two then left the classroom together, disappearing into the depths of the corridor. They plunged into the crowded descending crowd, about to go downstairs.

Luo Yong suddenly turned to Lin Dong and asked.

“The dorm is so far, will you shower immediately after getting wet?”

Hearing this, Lin Dong looked at Luo Yong with a puzzled expression.

    “Why would I get wet?”

To Luo Yong’s surprise, Lin Dong tapped a girl in front on the shoulder.

The girl turned around, and Luo Yong recognized her; it was the math representative from the next class.

Lin Dong had chatted with her on QQ, so he enthusiastically struck up a conversation. But Luo Yong didn’t know this, and he was completely stunned, frozen in place.

We’re all brothers, I keep my brother in my pocket, and you kick your brother into a ditch?

The first floor was crowded with many students without umbrellas or waiting for umbrellas, anxiously waiting. Many of them had already pulled out their phones and were looking down, playing with them.

A moment later, Luo Yong turned to see Lin Dong and the math representative from the next class walking into the rain together, sharing an umbrella.

He watched the two walk away, his heart chilling, without a trace of warmth.

Jiang Nian didn’t bring an umbrella, but he wasn’t in a hurry at all.

During the break, he told Chen Yunyun to help him get some food when she returned to the classroom. But at that time, it was only half a joke, and whether it counted depended on the weather.

Later, when the rain got heavier, Jiang Nian specifically left his seat and reminded her again not to bring it.

After all, the dorm cafeteria was far from the teaching building, and the road was full of puddles and it was raining. Running back and forth would get her wet, and washing her hair would be pointless.

If Chen Yunyun and the others went back to wash their hair, staying in the dorm for a nap would be more worthwhile.

As for what he would do, it was nothing more than waiting.

    Anyway, he had Zhang Ningzhi.

So, the ‘wait and see’ party never loses.

Jiang Nian turned around and saw Zhang Ningzhi packing her things, so he asked.

    “Do you have an umbrella?”

The world is vast, but the deskmate is the greatest, except for dogs.

Although Jiang Nian occasionally liked to intentionally annoy Zhang Ningzhi, they were still deskmates no matter what. In such a situation, it was more convenient to ask his deskmate.

Zhang Ningzhi finished tidying her desk and looked up at him.

    “Yes, I do.”

“Great, then I have an umbrella too.”

Zhang Ningzhi was too lazy to argue with him and suggested after some thought.

“My dad is coming to pick me up. Will you come with me to the school gate, and I’ll give you the umbrella?”

Jiang Nian was a bit confused upon hearing this, thinking, isn’t that meeting your dad? It’s just for an umbrella, there’s no need for that, and even if there was, it shouldn’t be on a rainy day.

“No need for such trouble, just drop me off at the cafeteria entrance.”

    “Oh.”

Jiang Nian didn’t overthink it. He took the umbrella from Zhang Ningzhi and they went downstairs together.

There weren’t many people in the corridor; those who could leave after school had already gone. Looking out from the fourth floor, it was a cloudy sky, and almost every classroom had its lights on.

He remarked, “So many people don’t have umbrellas.”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi also couldn’t help but look into other classes.

“Then how will they get back?”

“How would I know? Blame them for not having a good deskmate.” Jiang Nian grinned, showing his scoundrel nature, “Damn, they heard me, let’s go!”

Zhang Ningzhi was pulled forward by him, and she went down the stairs in a daze.

Outside the first-floor passage, a huge LED display in the hall showed, “200 Days Until the College Entrance Exam.”

She glanced at it, and the red numbers immediately stung her, so she turned and said.

“Jiang Nian, in two more days, the college entrance exam will be heading towards one hundred.”

“What the hell is ‘heading towards one’?” Jiang Nian glanced at the misty rain and complained.

The rain outside wasn’t heavy, and Zhang Ningzhi’s umbrella was in his hand, so naturally, he held it. Going from the cafeteria to the school gate was also a convenient route.

“Heading towards a hundred-something days, look at the wall.” Zhang Ningzhi pointed to the countdown.

“Yeah, cherish your deskmate.” Jiang Nian glanced at her, then opened the pink umbrella, “Let’s go, I’ll just run the rest of the way.”

The two walked into the rain sharing an umbrella, and Zhang Ningzhi couldn’t help but ask again.

“If I drop you off by the cafeteria road, how will you get back to the classroom?”

“I don’t know, who cares.” Jiang Nian looked indifferent and indeed hadn’t thought that far, “Hmm, maybe I’ll find an acquaintance, or just hitch a ride under someone’s umbrella.”

“Oh.” Zhang Ningzhi didn’t have the courage to hitch a ride under a stranger’s umbrella.

However, boys were always bolder, so she didn’t ask further. She just vaguely felt that Jiang Nian seemed somewhat unwilling to meet her father?

She always felt he was a bit guilty. Could it be that all boys were like this?

Never mind, she’d think about it later.

Jiang Nian didn’t know her mind was in a whirl. Seeing that they were almost at the cafeteria, he was about to return the umbrella to Zhang Ningzhi and then run a short distance in the rain himself.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Zhang Ningzhi’s collar wasn’t properly adjusted.

He didn’t think much of it; a good deskmate does everything. He directly reached out his hand and smoothly tidied her collar, even patting it flat instantly.

Zhang Ningzhi was still distracted when she suddenly felt her neck being touched.

She came back to her senses and suddenly realized Jiang Nian was adjusting her collar. His finger brushing her neck felt a bit cool, but her face quickly turned red.

It turned red all the way to her earlobes, and her voice was a little stuttering.

    “Wh-what’s wrong?”
