Chapter Index

“She called me? Why didn’t she come herself?”

Facing the English class representative, Jiang Nian looked up and spoke provocatively.

“Nian, stop pretending.” Li Hua put down his college entrance exam vocabulary book and sneered, “Hurry up and get out. If you delay any longer, you’ll have to stand for two classes.”

The English class representative was also sweating, unable to stand this annoying guy. But then he remembered that it might have been his actions in front of the camera last night that caused Xi Bao’s resentment.

For a moment, he didn’t dare to expose it, so he simply said vaguely.

“Brother Nian, Xi Bao is waiting in the corridor. She probably caught you sleeping. Just admit your mistake and it’ll be over.”

Hearing this, Zhang Ningzhi couldn’t help but turn her head. She had completely recovered from that strange feeling just now, and looked at him with a worried expression.

“Don’t talk back to the teacher.”

    “Alright.”

Jiang Nian stood up, having put on a good show and knowing when to quit. If he dragged it out any longer, Xi Bao would really get angry and make him stand at the back of the classroom for class again.

“Hua, make way for your dad.”

“Get lost!” Li Hua moved his chair forward.

Jiang Nian put on his school uniform jacket and walked out. He had stayed up too late watching ‘female bodhisattvas’ yesterday and was incredibly sleepy. He yawned as he walked out of the classroom into the morning light.

He looked lazy. His gaze swept over to see Xi Bao standing in the corridor playing with her phone.

Alright, she wanted to scold someone but was acting reserved.

She was probably putting on a stern face.

He didn’t care; he was already a seasoned veteran. Being caught sleeping by an upset Xi Bao and being made an example of was nothing new. He was ready to accept whatever came.

After all, he was in the wrong first.

“Teacher, did you call me?” Jiang Nian stopped two meters away from Xi Bao.

Xi Bao was pretending to scroll through Douyin, having deliberately turned off the sound, feigning busyness.

She had just scrolled to a funny video, and her shoulders trembled slightly, almost laughing out loud.

No, she had to hold it in.

It wasn’t until she heard Jiang Nian’s voice that she immediately put on her teacher’s authority, turned around, and said in a stern tone.

“Jiang Nian, you know why I called you.”

Before she could finish, she suddenly clapped her hand over her eyes. She couldn’t imagine what had just happened; her face actually flushed the first moment she saw him.

Yes, it was indeed Jiang Nian.

The student whom even dogs would shake their heads at, the one who snatched snacks from her, a pure example of defying his teacher and ancestors!

    What was going on today?

Had he attended some advanced training class in Tokyo Ginza yesterday?

No, why was she blushing at Jiang Nian? She could blush when he graduated and started working in Tokyo Ginza!

She heard that having someone light your cigarette and pour your drink only cost a few hundred yuan.

Taking a deep breath, Xi Bao regained her composure.

It was strange; that feeling only lasted for a moment. Although it was indeed unforgettable, looking at him a second time was much better now.

It was just that she knew she couldn’t maintain a stern face to scold him anymore.

Jiang Nian also found it strange how Xi Bao was acting so peculiar.

She had inexplicably called him out early in the morning, even though she never used to care about him sleeping during morning reading.

Now that she had called him out, she wasn’t speaking, just doing hand gestures.

Too bad he didn’t bring his phone out.

    “Sleeping?” he asked.

“So you admit you were sleeping?” Xi Bao pretended to be angry, “Is morning reading for sleeping? How many days are left until the big joint exam at the end of the month, tell me!”

“Eight days,” he said, looking down.

“You know it’s eight days, you!!!” Xi Bao choked again. She couldn’t do it, couldn’t scold him anymore, sob sob sob.

Jiang Nian didn’t hear a sound for a long time and couldn’t help but look up curiously.

No, was Xi Bao not fully charged this morning?

Why was she speaking so haltingly?

Xi Bao’s face gradually reddened. She fanned herself with her hand, her gaze looking elsewhere. This damn kid, don’t stare at the teacher. Is he stupid?

“What was your score on the last weekly test?”

Jiang Nian nodded, “A mere 143. There’s no room for improvement.”

Xi Bao was hit hard again, sob sob sob, he was making fun of her.

    The teacher was useless, right!

“Don’t be arrogant and complacent if you haven’t scored 150,” she said, feeling a bit guilty herself, as she could only score around 140 and occasionally made mistakes.

“Then, Teacher, can you score 150?” Jiang Nian added.

Xi Bao wanted to die, being mocked by a student.

“Alright, go back to your classroom!”

Jiang Nian responded and turned to walk back to the classroom. He felt a pair of eyes scrutinizing him from behind, which made him feel uneasy. Was it just a little mockery?

Xi Bao couldn’t be that petty, could she?

Women are hard to say, they’re all quite petty, huh. Never mind, never mind, I’d better go back and apologize, lest my right to sleep in class be completely revoked in the future.

He turned around and saw Xi Bao’s pouting, aggrieved expression. Although she quickly reined it in and pretended to casually scroll through her phone, muttering to herself.

Oh my god, I messed up.

Will I be silenced? No, you’re twenty-eight, why are you as childish as an eighteen-year-old!

    Stupid woman!

The awkwardness had raised the level of mockery by a Rank. Jiang Nian was already sweating. He wanted to explain, but Xi Bao had already quietly walked away.

    Oh no, I’m screwed.

Sure enough, Jiang Nian spent the first two English classes of the morning standing at the back of the classroom.

However, standing at the back of the class wasn’t without its benefits. Xi Bao hadn’t specified where he had to stand. So he simply snuck over to the water dispenser and stood there chatting with Lin Dong, Chen Yunyun, and the others.

They talked quietly during class, their mouths moving without making a sound.

To be honest, Sun Zhicheng felt a bit uncomfortable.

Listening to Jiang Nian and Chen Yunyun chat quietly, if it weren’t for Chen Yunyun, he would have really wanted to report them all. Chatting in class affected studying too much.

It also affected his own studies, as he couldn’t concentrate at all.

If he listened, the chat content was meaningless. If he didn’t listen, he was afraid they would mess around in class, and what if Chen Yunyun was taken advantage of by Jiang Nian’s physical contact?

According to his observations during this period, Chen Yunyun seemed to treat all boys more or less the same. Coupled with Jiang Nian’s vulgarity and lack of gentlemanly behavior towards girls.

Chen Yunyun probably didn’t like Jiang Nian either; she just liked playing with boys.

Jiang Nian too, the things Chen Yunyun said were obviously diplomatic. What did it have to do with him if she went to play with Wang Yuhe, yet he kept talking about it.

At the end of the first class, a large number of students were slumped on their desks.

As soon as the bell rang, Jiang Nian directly sat on the book basket in the row by the wall and went to sleep. Anyway, it was Chen Yunyun, Wang Yuhe, and Lin Dong’s book basket, so he wasn’t afraid of someone getting angry if he sat on it.

“Move over, I need to lean.” He moved Chen Yunyun’s books inwards by eight centimeters to make room for his arm to sleep, knowing he would have to stand again next class.

He gave up, resigned to his fate.

When women got petty, they were truly ruthless. He regretted not taking out his phone to capture Xi Bao’s expression.

“Can’t you go back to your seat to sleep?” Chen Yunyun bit her lower lip. She didn’t know what was wrong this morning; strange images kept flashing in her mind.

Although the moment of attraction only lasted for that one instant, it came without any reason.

Suddenly, her pupils dilated, her heart rate accelerated, and her physiological reactions were more intense. That feeling was quite wonderful, localized numbness, and her body was out of control for a moment.

An electric current shot up from the soles of her feet, passing directly below her chest cavity. It continued up her throat, through to the top of her head, and then spread out like a bouquet.

That feeling of physical weakness, the sound of blood rushing in her ears, she would never forget it.

Looking at Jiang Nian now, he was still handsome. But in the classroom, there wasn’t that kind of hormone rush, nor was it as intense as the first time she saw him this morning.

In that moment this morning, it was as if her entire heart, pupils, and hormones surged, her heart rate skyrocketing. It was like she had been hit by a love Gu; her whole being felt off.

It was hard to explain, and perhaps no explanation was needed.

“Too lazy to go over there. It’s only a few minutes, and I’ll be standing here next class anyway.” Jiang Nian lay on the edge of the desk, “Don’t talk to me before class.”

    “Oh.”

For Jiang Nian, his relationship with Chen Yunyun was quite good.

To some extent, she and Jiang Nian were actually quite in sync. She could even get some vulgar jokes, which is why they could be friends.

Even if Chen Yunyun blushed, he would only assume she was dizzy, and wouldn’t think in another direction. For example, ‘I treat you as a friend, but you want to sit on me?’

Because they had known each other for less than a month, and Chen Yunyun wouldn’t be that annoying either.

After two English classes, Sun Zhicheng was exhausted.

Fortunately, after the second class, Jiang Nian kept trying to sleep while standing. Xi Bao would often wander around while lecturing, so Jiang Nian barely chatted with anyone.

As soon as class was over, Jiang Nian went straight back to his seat, and the classroom immediately became noisy.

Sun Zhicheng was slumped on his desk and happened to overhear Chen Yunyun and her friends chatting. They seemed to be discussing their plans for Saturday afternoon, wondering why they were going to a gym.

“Won’t we be stared at the first time we go?” Wang Yuhe asked.

“No, Jiang Nian said that place is very big,” Chen Yunyun said excitedly. “Just go straight there. Someone there will guide us, and we can play on our own.”

With a bang, Sun Zhicheng felt like the sky was falling. His face grew even uglier.

Weekend, they were going with Jiang Nian? Why would high school students go to a gym? He heard from his dad that the service there was bad.

He didn’t want to deal with those people, so he bought a membership but didn’t go. In contrast, the people who went fishing were all big bosses, and they all spoke nicely.

Swallowing his saliva, he turned and said.

“Um, I heard that the people at the gym are very mixed. Why did you get memberships there? It’s a complete waste of money, right? My dad said that place isn’t very…”

“Your dad got a membership too?” Chen Yunyun asked curiously, “Which gym is it? There seem to be only two or three gyms in the county town. I wonder if it’s the same one as Jiang Nian’s?”

Sun Zhicheng froze, catching a blind spot in her words.

    “Jiang Nian got a membership?”

“Yes, we didn’t get one, we’re just going to play for a bit,” Chen Yunyun smiled. “Jiang Nian knows people there and has free trial passes. We’ll just go play and then leave.”

“Oh, oh, you guys…” Sun Zhicheng’s head was buzzing. What ‘three people going together’? “No, why would Jiang Nian, a high school student, get a membership?”

“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask him,” Chen Yunyun shook her head.

“Maybe it’s a hobby,” Wang Yuhe suddenly said. “After all, Jiang Nian is quite strong, so he should be pursuing strength, just a little bit better than me…”

Hearing this, Sun Zhicheng was almost dizzy, his face growing even uglier.

Damn, fishing and a gym membership, is this still a proper high school student?

He wouldn’t be going to train his waist, would he!
