Chapter Index

At the sound, everyone fell silent.

Chen Yunyun, Wang Yuhe, and Sun Zhicheng all looked at Lin Dong in shock. The rest of the class also turned their gaze to the source of the sound, including Jiang Nian.

Lin Dong realized he had said the wrong thing and awkwardly tried to fix it.

“Who can handle a three-kilometer run!”

As his words fell, the atmosphere immediately relaxed.

Lin Dong quickly retracted his previous statement; he didn’t want to clash with Jiang Nian.

It wasn’t that he was afraid, but mainly he didn’t want Jiang Nian to lose Face. After all, he was representing the class in the three-kilometer run, and making him lose too much Face would be detrimental to class unity.

Alright, alright, you’re really digging yourself into a hole.

You’d rather bring up class unity than mention you’re a member of the Communist Youth League. You’ll do double the Youth Learning in the future.

Most people still held a playful attitude. After all, high school life wasn’t exactly colorful, in fact, it was quite boring, so everyone had a “let’s have fun” mindset.

Fight, fight! I love seeing blood flow!

Seeing there was no more fun to watch, they stopped paying attention.

Jiang Nian didn’t pay much attention to Lin Dong. The dormitory area in the North District was an undeveloped new map for him, and he hadn’t really interacted with the boarding students in his class since the promotion.

He only knew that Lin Dong was the math class representative and always had a few people around him. He usually spoke with a faint air of arrogance, as if he had swallowed a Chen Beixuan.

From a distance, Jiang Nian glanced at Lin Dong. Without bothering to lower his voice, he turned to the sports committee member, Liu Yang, and said,

“Just sign me up for the stupid three-kilometer run. Forget the others; leave some room for other people.”

Hearing this, the running team burst into laughter.

Lin Dong became even more embarrassed. Not wanting to lose Face, he could only brace himself and look back.

When he turned, he found Jiang Nian staring at him, seemingly expecting him to say something.

Forget it, forget it. The run is about to start; I’ll let him off the hook this time. But Jiang Nian, remember, I’m your classmate, not your horse handler!

“Don’t be like that, add the long jump. Too few people signed up,” Liu Yang changed the subject. “Most people get eliminated in the preliminaries, so we need to fill the spots to have a chance at the finals.”

Jiang Nian choosing the three-kilometer event really delighted him.

He was racking his brain trying to trick people into running the three-kilometer, as almost no one was willing to do it. It was tiring and unglamorous, and if you couldn’t keep up halfway, you’d lose a lot of Face.

Every year, some people start too fast, leading to exhaustion after two or three laps. They either give up halfway or simply throw up violently at the finish line.

Liu Yang himself wasn’t willing to run; it was pure suffering.

Jiang Nian, however, didn’t care. Since he was going to show off, he might as well go all the way.

A sharp whistle blew, and the run began.

    The third period was English.

Teacher Xi Bao rushed into the classroom with her lesson plan, and after just a few steps, her legs almost gave out, nearly making her kneel by the podium.

“What is this smell in your class!!”

    The boys cheered, “Manly smell!”

“Open the windows, open the windows!” Teacher Xi Bao covered her nose. “Working is like becoming a monk, holding a lotus in the mud. I never thought I’d be associated with work-related injuries one day.”

Whoosh, all the classroom windows were opened.

Jiang Nian rested his head on his hand. Hearing Teacher Xi Bao’s voice, he instinctively yawned. Before he could finish, Teacher Xi Bao, from the podium, caught him and called on him.

“Come, you come up and explain the cloze test.”

“Huh?” Jiang Nian was stumped. He slowly got up and said, “Teacher, Li Hua also did it, call on him.”

His deskmate, Li Hua, slowly formed a question mark. You just can’t stand your brother being comfortable for a second, can you?

Teacher Xi Bao rolled her eyes at him. “You talk too much, come up here!”

For the entire class, forty-five minutes, Jiang Nian lectured for twenty-five minutes. Teacher Xi Bao giggled for five minutes, summarized the lesson for five minutes, and focused on composition for ten minutes.

As soon as class was over, she took Jiang Nian to the office.

In the sun-drenched corridor, this scene was happening for the second time.

The last time he was dragged to the office was because of a minor conflict between Jiang Nian and Yu Tongjie. This time it was because of his lecture, and Teacher Xi Bao said she would get him some snacks.

“Teacher, at my age, I don’t like eating snacks anymore.”

Hearing this, Teacher Xi Bao, who was walking ahead, turned in surprise.

“Really? At my age, I still love eating them.”

You’re a mother, and you’re still saying “really, really”? Holy cow, showing such a cute expression, I’m genuinely worried for your brother-in-law. High school… a den of wolves!

“Then it’s fine. Teacher, you might… not be an adult yet.” Jiang Nian said the last four words against his conscience.

Teacher Xi Bao’s reaction was indeed big. She covered her mouth and laughed.

“Oh, you’re naughty. I’m not that young. Teacher is already the mother of a few children, you know.”

Jiang Nian suspected that Teacher Xi Bao pulled him out alone just to hear those few flattering words, to be a cyber empress for a moment.

Or perhaps for a good omen, forever eighteen.

Damn, your dad here is actually eighteen. You’re using me as a cyber good luck charm, huh!

Next to the English office was the comprehensive science office. As Jiang Nian passed by the door, he noticed the biology teacher, Zhong Qing, looking up and staring at him.

It was strange. It was a look that seemed to say, “How should I deal with you, kid?”

In the office, there was a total of ten minutes of break time.

Teacher Xi Bao got straight to the point, pulling out several bags of small snacks from her drawer and pushing them towards Jiang Nian. Seeing that he was unmoved and continued to stare at the half-open drawer,

Her expression suddenly changed, and she protected the drawer with her life.

    “Mine!”

Jiang Nian was speechless. How did this silly woman become a teacher? During the teacher qualification interview, did she sing a “Baby Happy Song” to the judges?

“Teacher, I don’t like snacks. I’m just curious why you like those’Suck-and-Enjoy’ jelly pouches?”

“Huh? You saw wrong, there’s no such thing.” Teacher Xi Bao quickly pulled out a few bags of hush money, closed the drawer, and whispered, “Don’t go around talking about it!”

    Jiang Nian: “.”

“Oh right, have you signed up for the sports meet?” Teacher Xi Bao casually changed the subject, continuing her bribery. “How about Teacher cheers you on?”

    “The three-kilometer,” he said.

Ding-a-ling-ling, the bell for the fourth period’s preparatory class rang.

Teacher Xi Bao’s emotions were written all over her Face; she immediately beamed with joy. “Go to class now, perform well.”

“Alright.” Jiang Nian got up, picked a few easy-to-carry snacks from the table, and walked away, not forgetting to add, “I really don’t like snacks, it’s not that I don’t want to take them all, alright.”

She gave too many; taking them all would seem impolite, but not taking any would be a loss.

A man who always strives to be strong.

After Jiang Nian left, Teacher Xi Bao leaned alone in the English office, opening a bag of Suck-and-Enjoy jelly. She was humming a song while tidying up her things to leave work when she suddenly remembered something.

“What did that Jiang Nian kid say he signed up for just now?… Never mind, I’ll ask him another day.”

As soon as he returned to the classroom, the snacks were divided among Li Hua, Ma Guojun, and Yao Beibei. He hadn’t taken many in total, only five items.

He looked up and saw that Zhang Ningzhi had no reaction, just lieing on her desk doing homework.

You really have a lot of homework, Little Zhizhi.

Taking advantage of the teacher not yet arriving, he tapped Zhang Ningzhi’s back and offered her the snacks.

Zhang Ningzhi only turned her head, pursed her lips, glanced at the snacks, and then quickly shook her head and turned back.

    Hmm? So reserved?
