Chapter Index

“You two aren’t listening in class. What are you mumbling about over there?”

Teacher Xi pressed one hand on the podium, staring intently in a certain direction. She seemed angry, but in reality, she was secretly delighted.

It was too tiring to have an 8 AM class on Sunday, so she’d grab a scapegoat to fill in for a while.

Jiang Nian could explain the test paper for her, and as for Li Hua, she could just throw him to the back. This kid wasn’t learning well; he was learning to whisper in class.

So, Li Hua, carrying two books, scurried to the back, looking sheepish.

His face looked like he was about to cry, but he was grinning on the inside.

He was currently looking for someone to share that Heaven-Defying meme with; he couldn’t wait to leave his seat and stand at the back.

According to the unwritten rules of standing in the back, he could move freely there.

Jiang Nian was speechless, implicated by that scoundrel Li Hua; it was truly an unprovoked disaster.

There was no choice but to carry the English test paper to the stage and act as a laborer.

Just as he stood up, his deskmate, Zhizhi, gently tugged at him and quietly asked,

“Did you do the test paper?”

Damn, this was what a beautiful deskmate was like!

What was that thing that just went to the back row? A pure snake-skin joke.

Jiang Nian was greatly moved, “I just happened to write it.”

Because the English test paper was distributed yesterday, he was only asked to complete four reading comprehensions. When he had nothing to do, he read and also finished the questions.

Even so, he still took Zhang Ningzhi’s test paper to the stage.

Since she asked, it would be a bit rude not to take it.

Honest Jiang Nian was truly honest this time. He projected the test paper onto the acrylic board with a projector and began translating the reading comprehension word for word.

“The environmental protection department discovered that a chemical factory in the outskirts of London…”

    BYD, classic London question.

Zhou Yuting listened attentively, even though the person on stage was Jiang Nian.

She had been annoyed enough these past few days, facing the pressure of the Olympiad class’s academic progress.

And because of the chat group incident, she had nightmares night after night.

She was indeed a person of firm belief, but that didn’t mean she was truly fearless.

Whether she cheated or not was no longer important; the key was that she was in that group and had been doxxed. Once it exploded, no one would listen to her explanations.

The only way now was to improve her grades before the chat group was exposed.

But… how easy was that? Learning was difficult, almost impossible, with endless homework every day. She worried constantly and couldn’t rest well.

No kidding, she was really going to get depressed.

Zhou Yuting ran her fingers through her hair, forcing herself to calm down and listen to the lecture.

Jiang Nian’s voice echoed in the classroom. She lowered her head and looked at the test paper. Unconsciously, she drifted off, her gaze fixed blankly on the printed English text.

Her vision seemed to freeze in one spot, not turning away for a long time.

Since childhood, she had been a proud person. No matter where she went, there would be a group of people surrounding her like stars orbiting the moon, at her beck and call.

Even when she changed places, she could still move from the edge of the group to the center of the circle.

This was how things were until her third year of high school.

But after one summer vacation, everything changed. Failed promotion, the breakup of her small circle, two suitors disappeared, even abandoning her.

She knew very well that the root of everything was the owner of the voice in her ear.

She didn’t know how Jiang Nian improved his grades. But when she found that Jiang Nian was a thousand times better after being promoted, she broke down a little.

Originally, Zhou Yuting didn’t care about these things, because she knew very well.

Temporary gains and losses were minor matters. After she successfully got promoted, she would have everything after a while. She didn’t need to care about past events at all.

What was Jiang Nian? There would always be people more outstanding than him.

But Zhou Yuting found that she still cared a little, especially about Jiang Nian’s female deskmate. Every time she saw her, Zhou Yuting would always feel her Dao Heart shattering a bit.

She could accept Jiang Nian’s promotion, and she could accept Jiang Nian scoring 590. But she didn’t think that someone like Zhang Ningzhi would have a good impression of Jiang Nian.

It was like she threw away a broken piece of porcelain, and then a rich person picked it up, claiming it was priceless. That would really make her want to vomit blood.

What kind of love potion did Jiang Nian give her? They weren’t people from the same world at all.

All sorts of thoughts swirled in her mind.

“Alright, now let’s look at the questions for the second reading comprehension.” Teacher Xi’s voice pulled Zhou Yuting’s attention back. After she sobered up, her heart started beating faster.

She hurriedly looked at Reading Comprehension B, her mood still unable to calm down.

The class order became: Jiang Nian first translated the meaning of the reading comprehension questions, then translated the reading comprehension, and then stood aside.

Teacher Xi took over and began to explain how to answer the questions skillfully.

This repeated constantly, turning him completely into a tool in the hands of the bad woman. Because Jiang Nian translated very quickly, three reading comprehensions were covered in one class.

In contrast, Li Hua, that damn thing, laughed for an entire class.

He was like a social butterfly roaming the back row of Class 3, sometimes sharing his Heaven-Defying meme with Liu Yang, sometimes going to Tao Ran himself, laughing so hard he couldn’t stop.

Near the end of class, Li Hua noticed that the picture he had cut out was missing.

He stood in the back row, patting himself down.

    “No, where’s my picture?”

Ring, ring, ring. The first class ended.

A large number of students immediately flopped onto their desks, and Jiang Nian also came down accordingly.

He noticed Li Hua hadn’t returned but didn’t pay much attention.

    “Here, your test paper.”

“Oh.” Zhang Ningzhi took the test paper, feeling a little embarrassed. She leaned on the desk and quietly asked, “You clearly did the paper, why didn’t you say so?”

Jiang Nian was about to drink water to moisten his throat, but he paused at her words.

“Because… just because I did it this time doesn’t mean I’ll do it next time. So you must study hard and complete your homework on time every time.”

Zhang Ningzhi was speechless and pursed her lips.

“I won’t write it next time either.”

“Then I’ll report you, a real-name report.” Jiang Nian pointed at her. Reporting had become his spontaneous method; everything could be reported. Come at him if you dare.

Zhang Ningzhi was wearing an off-white hoodie today, with her hair tied in a high ponytail. Her skin was fair and delicate. When she leaned on the desk, her slender neck was exposed.

She showed displeasure, frowning and staring at Jiang Nian.

“You’re not allowed to report me!”

“I will.” Jiang Nian was always shameless.

“You!!” Zhang Ningzhi was so angered by him that she instantly wasn’t sleepy anymore. She got up from the desk again to think of a countermeasure against being reported, but after thinking for a long time, she couldn’t find a way.

The more she thought, the angrier she got. She turned her head and saw Jiang Nian’s exposed arm.

Even though it was already considered winter, and the lowest morning temperature was a bit biting, Jiang Nian still habitually rolled up his sleeves every day.

At this moment, he was leaning on the desk, his arm exposed.

Zhang Ningzhi thought for a moment, picked up a gel pen, and drew a pig’s head on his arm.

During the drawing, she held her breath, carefully sketching as if covering her ears while stealing a bell, as if this way she wouldn’t wake Jiang Nian.

Perhaps her prayer worked, as Jiang Nian didn’t wake up the entire time.

It wasn’t until the second class started that he slowly woke up. As if knowing nothing, he unscrewed his water bottle and took a few more sips, muttering to himself,

    “Where’s that damn Li Hua?”

Zhang Ningzhi beside him was quiet, like a lotus blooming in the mud. She observed Jiang Nian’s movements out of the corner of her eye, while silently chanting in her heart, “It wasn’t me. It was the… group leader, the group leader did it secretly.”

“What the hell?” Jiang Nian exclaimed, seemingly having discovered something, “Who’s on my arm…”

    He trailed off mid-sentence.

Zhang Ningzhi immediately hid behind a stack of books, her heart racing uncontrollably, blushing. She looked exactly like someone trying to hide something that was already obvious.

She actually really wanted to see why Jiang Nian stopped talking, if he was angry.

But she didn’t dare to look up, only maintaining the posture of an ostrich in the snow.

Soon, Li Hua returned from outside the classroom, just as the second preparatory bell rang.

As soon as he sat down, before he could even catch his breath, he turned to ask Jiang Nian,

“Nian, did you see that picture of mine?”

“No, don’t worry about your picture.” Jiang Nian grinned, extending his arm horizontally, “Let me show you something really cool. After you see it, you’ll know what paternal love is like a mountain.”

“What the hell?” Li Hua looked bewildered.

He only saw Jiang Nian turn his elbow, and on his arm was a pig’s head, and on the comical pig’s head were four crookedly written characters.

Ai Zi Li Hua (Beloved Son Li Hua).

    “Damn it, you f*cker!”

He was truly a born beast, even love had to be spelled out in pinyin.

Damn it, he was lazy to the core.

Huang Fang listened to the noise in the back row, completely ignoring it.

She drew on the test paper with her pen, finding that the refill wasn’t writing. So she shook it vigorously, tried a few times without success, and then replaced the refill.

Looking at the empty pen refill, Fangfang felt a strange sense of accomplishment in her heart.

After replacing the refill, she did not throw away the used refill as trash. Instead, she put it into a box, which contained a large pile of similarly used refills.

Wu Jun deliberately watched his deskmate’s every move and found it inexplicably amusing.

“You like collecting used pen refills?”

Huang Fang paused for a moment, then felt a little embarrassed.

    “Ah, yes, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I just thought of something.” Wu Jun deliberately smiled and couldn’t help but say, “Zeng You likes to pile used tissues at the foot of his bed…”

    Huang Fang: “…”

In the second class, Jiang Nian was still made a scapegoat.

Teacher Xi had gotten used to using him and clearly had no intention of letting go.

In the back of the classroom, Zhou Yuting was listening to Jiang Nian’s translation and correction of Reading Comprehension D. Her mindset had already adjusted; she simply stopped thinking about it.

A thousand sails pass by the sunken boat, and ten thousand trees bloom before the diseased tree.

It was too early to talk about victory or defeat now. Tao Ran was much better than Jiang Nian, so she would definitely win.

Suddenly, she turned her head and saw Yang Qiming looking at a small cut-out picture.

Originally, Zhou Yuting wouldn’t be distracted, but Yang Qiming kept trying to stifle his laughter. His whole body was shaking, even causing the desk to tremble.

She was a little speechless and nudged Yang Qiming.

    “What are you doing?”

Yang Qiming couldn’t hold back either and handed the picture to Zhou Yuting.

    “Look at this.”

“I’m not looking, we’re in class.” She was a little displeased, but her gaze subconsciously swept over it.

Because of her fast reading speed, the information went directly into her brain. Before she could even react, the information had already been received.

She saw Tao Ran’s name and couldn’t help but ask, concerned,

    “What is ‘Furry’?”

“Oh, ‘Furry’ is…” Yang Qiming enthusiastically explained.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yuting’s pupils widened little by little, and she was speechless.
