Chapter Index

The afternoon passed with three classes, followed by the last short self-study session.

Jiang Nian couldn’t help but ask.

    “BYD, where’s Zeng Youren?”

“He asked for leave, saying it was acute gastroenteritis caused by the change of seasons,” Li Hua said. “But he was bouncing around this morning, so he probably just didn’t want to attend class.”

Jiang Nian was stunned, then said with deep regret.

“Skipping class in senior year, what’s the difference between that and a dog riding a bicycle once?”

Zhang Ningzhi, who had been quiet all afternoon, was intrigued and couldn’t help but ask.

“What happens if a dog rides a bicycle once?”

Jiang Nian chuckled and answered without thinking.

“You’ll have to ask Li Hua about that.”

“Chishi chishi chishi!” Li Hua let out a sharp shriek, as if he was about to die upon hearing this bad review. “You’re too malicious!”

But his antics were quickly cut short by the Disciplinary Committee, and he immediately quieted down.

As there were only a few minutes left before school ended, Yu Zhiyi, who was on duty for the afternoon self-study, stood up on the podium, tidying her things to return to her seat.

Li Hua pretended to stretch his neck, secretly glancing at Yu Zhiyi.

When his gaze returned, he turned his head and was caught red-handed by Jiang Nian, freezing in place.

Jiang Nian smiled, revealing his phone camera from the sleeve of his long-sleeved jacket.

Li Hua couldn’t smile anymore. “Seriously, buddy, you’re a big deal, aren’t you!”

Is surveillance all that’s left between people?

“No, Brother Jiu Yao Nian, can you delete that?” Li Hua gave in. “Don’t keep messing with me, alright?”

Jiang Nian smiled without speaking, slowly putting away his phone.

    “It wasn’t on.”

    “You f***ing!!!”

    “Just kidding, it was on.”

“Brother, what do you want to eat this afternoon?” Li Hua’s face was slick. “I recommend the chicken leg rice from the cafeteria—four dishes and one soup, varied flavors and rich nutrition.”

“Oh, why are you so polite?” Jiang Nian demurred.

Li Hua put on a smile and said righteously.

“I just love spending money on my brothers.”

Hearing this, Ma Guojun leaned over, his chubby face struggling to maintain a smile.

“Oh, I want to eat too.”

Li Hua turned his head, “You’re not my brother, you’re a geisha.”

Zeng You woke up from a nap to find it dark outside the window.

    Thump thump thump! Thump!

“Students, class time has arrived. Please quickly return to your classrooms to prepare for class.”

He sat up from the bed, still a bit dazed.

It took him a while to remember that he had taken leave, sleeping from the afternoon straight through to the evening.

    Grrr, he was hungry.

He rubbed his stomach; it was flat.

After returning from the parent-teacher meeting in the morning, he got engrossed in a novel and read until three in the afternoon.

He had intended to go downstairs to buy something but was too sleepy and fell asleep.

Having not eaten all day, his limbs felt somewhat weak.

He checked the time, just past seven, which meant it was already the second evening self-study session. He hoped the first floor of the dorm wasn’t locked, but it was likely he couldn’t get out.

Thinking this, Zeng You quietly made his way downstairs.

The main door on the first floor was indeed locked. He walked upstairs dejectedly. When he reached the third floor, he suddenly stopped. There was movement in the dorm room directly opposite the hallway.

He listened carefully for a while; it was a faint, sensuous sound.

Zeng You was shocked. This was a male dorm!

That made it even more frightening.

He swallowed hard; fear sometimes brought out courage. He took a deep breath and tiptoed to look through the peephole.

Most dorm doors in Building 5 had a fan-shaped peephole, but they were usually blocked with torn textbook pages or complimentary CDs.

This dorm room looked unblocked, but it was actually already blocked inside.

    Who the Hell was clapping?

Zeng You looked through the peephole, and his eyes first dimmed. His cone cells went on strike, and his rod cells began to work, transitioning from light to dark in three seconds.

During those three seconds, he could only hear the panting from inside the dorm room and the violent pounding of his own heart, which sounded particularly loud in the dim environment.

Finally, he saw clearly, a vague silhouette in the darkness.

    Damn, it was a couple.

He vaguely heard a female voice, “Brother, guess what I’m doing?”

    In the brightly lit classroom.

Lin Dong stared at the newly popped-up message and couldn’t help but rub his chin.

    “It’s a voice message.”

Clicking on the voice-to-text conversion, Lin Dong didn’t understand what it meant. He thought this girl was probably crazy; she didn’t say anything, so who would know what she was doing.

However, with a desire for revenge, he continued to bait her and replied.

    “Didn’t hear clearly.”

Sure enough, a second, longer voice message popped up.

It was currently the second evening self-study session, and the classroom was silent, with only an occasional cough.

He wanted to listen but didn’t have headphones, so he turned and asked.

    “A-Cheng, do you have headphones?”

Sun Zhicheng had been in a daze all afternoon, his mind a mess.

The person he had blocked in the morning was Chen Yunyun’s father, and he had blocked him three times in a row. What he had blocked wasn’t a shot, but his own already short thread of fate.

Hearing Lin Dong’s voice, he slowly came back to his senses.

    “What?”

    “Headphones, oppa.”

    “Didn’t bring them, oppa.”

“You’re useless, oppa.” Lin Dong was exasperated.

He then asked everyone in his group, one by one, but Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe hadn’t brought any either. He turned around and met the gaze of his former brother, Yang Qiming.

The other person put on his headphones nonchalantly.

Lin Dong didn’t want to borrow from him, so he pretended not to see and decided to take a gamble.

As long as he adjusted the volume to the first notch and covered it tightly with his hand, surely no sound would leak out.

Buzz, a message popped up in the dorm group.

It was that bastard Zeng You.

Lin Dong’s finger was almost touching the voice message bar; he decided to check Zeng You’s message later.

    QQ launched!

An unexpected, extremely high-pitched cry rang out in the pin-drop silent classroom.

In that instant, Lin Dong wanted to die, no joke.

“What was that sound?” The vanguard Li Hua immediately stood up, his gaze patrolling the classroom. “Holy cow, did someone just shout?”

Jiang Nian stopped writing and looked up, “What’s burning?”

The class ‘oh-ed’ and a wave of jeering erupted like a crashing tide. They then looked towards Lin Dong’s group, bursting into laughter.

“My family owns a supermarket, this is like clearing out inventory. Listening to this, I’m bound for Hell.”

    “Charge again, brother.”

“As if hearing heavenly music, the ears temporarily clear. After this, it will surely be like fish entering the vast sea, birds soaring into the blue sky, no longer bound by anything.”

“Haha, what kind of bird’s bondage?”

The class instantly became noisy, and the Disciplinary Committee member Cai Xiaoqing had to intervene.

Zhang Ningzhi was a little curious and poked Jiang Nian.

“What was that sound just now?”

“Nothing, probably a Prank file.” Jiang Nian didn’t want to pollute Zhizhi’s ears, so he found an excuse to gloss it over. “Don’t worry about it, just keep doing your homework.”

Zhang Ningzhi nodded, still a bit confused.

    “Oh.”

“Holy cow, damn it, you scared the Hell out of me.” Zeng You leaned against the stairs, sending messages to the dorm group. “Someone’s dual-queuing in the dorm, and they’re shouting really loudly.”

“Just now I looked inside, and they even smiled at me. Holy crap, it’s terrifying. The guy even told me not to leave, saying he’d come out and beat me up when they were done.”

“Brothers, I’m scared to death, who’s going to save me!” Soon, someone replied in the dorm group.

    Lin Dong: “I’m already dead.”

Nian Nian Wang Xiang Si: “Dorm building, right? Wait, I’m calling people over.”

Zeng You was overjoyed, typing with trembling fingers.

    “Okay.”

A few seconds later, he felt something was off.

“No, Jiang Nian, how did you get into our dorm group?”

Nian Nian Wang Xiang Si: “Because I am the emperor. After many days, the great Emperor Nian has returned to his loyal Dorm 514. Any more questions?”

    Zeng You: “.”

“Don’t question, just believe.” Jiang Nian sent another message, “Don’t panic, teammates are coming for backup.”

Zeng You was really starving, so he chose to trust his teammates.

“Brother, bring me something to eat.”

    Jiang Nian: “Deal.”

In the classroom, Cai Xiaoqing, the Disciplinary Committee member, fell into thought as she looked at the empty sixth group.

“You mean… everyone needs to go to the bathroom?”

Jiang Nian nodded, “Drank too much water.”

Wu Jun Gu said, “Can’t hold it anymore.”

Li Hua: “Prime Minister Cai, I’m about to turn purple from holding it in.”

    Cai Xiaoqing: “.”

Being a Disciplinary Committee member in this class was sometimes quite helpless.

    “Alright then.”

Jiang Nian and the others let out a ‘wuhu’ and darted out of the classroom, then rushed non-stop to the dormitory. Lin Dong followed shortly after, though the smile on his face was a bit forced.

Li Hua noticed Lin Dong’s sadness and patted him on the shoulder.

    “It’s okay, it’ll all pass.”

“Really?” Lin Dong was a little touched.

Li Hua burst out laughing, “Fake, because I’ll bring this up repeatedly for the next half a year.”

Lin Dong’s face darkened, and he walked ahead first.

“Hua, don’t be so cruel.” Jiang Nian came out of the convenience store with some food, which he brought for the starving Zeng You. “Why did Brother Jun also come to join the fun?”

Wu Jun Gu was at the very back of the group and let out an “ah” when he heard this.

“We’re in the same dorm, so I came to check it out.”

“Then let’s go, explosive news, don’t let them run away.” Jiang Nian sighed again. “Too bad Ma Guojun wouldn’t come; no one to block the hallway now.”

“Stop talking nonsense, let’s just catch them in the act,” Li Hua said.

Wu Jun Gu interrupted, “But we don’t even know them, what act are we catching?”

“Lin Dong knows them; he even added that girl’s QQ.” Jiang Nian laughed heartily, looking at the increasingly close dorm entrance. “It’s all pure love, no adulterers.”

Li Hua felt a little guilty thinking about what happened this afternoon.

Even though they had broken up, it wouldn’t sound good if it got out. It was all that BYD Jiang Nian’s fault; he didn’t even know if he had actually filmed it or not, and now he’d have to keep this secret for life.

Hearing this, Lin Dong was speechless.

So, you weren’t the one kicked into the green belt, and you weren’t the one forced to play. You bastard, it’s easy to talk when you’re not in pain.

    Damn, today was really unlucky.

“Uncle, our classmate is locked in the dorm, we’re taking him back to class.”

Downstairs, after much calling, the dorm supervisor opened the door with a key.

    “Which dorm are you from?”

The three said in unison, “301.”

“Does it take so many people to unlock a door?” The dorm supervisor was half-skeptical.

“The key fell out, we’re trying to see if we can use another key to pick it open,” Jiang Nian said without changing his expression. “If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to pry the lock; many hands make light work.”

Hearing this, the dorm supervisor had no choice but to open the door.

    “Go on, don’t linger.”

    “Thank you, Uncle.”

The few of them thanked him one by one and ran upstairs like flying, the stairs creaking loudly.

The dorm supervisor pricked up his ears and listened on the first floor for a while. Soon, violent banging on a door erupted, mixed with sounds like “Open up!” and “Why is it locked from the inside!”

    “A bunch of rascals.”

    Third floor.

Zeng You was wolfing down a sandwich, pointing at the door.

    “There’s definitely someone inside!”

“How audacious, messing with people from our Class 4!” Lin Dong was furious, never having been so disgusted. “Call the grade head!”

“Still arrogant now?” Li Hua kicked the dorm door and instructed, “Call, call immediately. I love seeing these arrogant people get expelled.”

The grade head, Ji Mingzhen, was called over, accompanied by the homeroom teacher of Dorm 301.

On the second floor of the cafeteria, a certain window faced the corridor of Dorm Building 5.

Jiang Nian, Lin Dong, Li Hua, Wu Jun Gu, and Zeng You stood there, craning their necks to watch the activity in the opposite dorm building.

    Lin Dong suddenly understood.

“Brother Nian, holy cow, you’re really evil. I wondered why you bought a lock.”

“It’s locked, so they can’t get out.” Li Hua shook his head. “Damn, this guy is truly dark from head to toe.”

“Don’t criticize without reason. If they ran out, wouldn’t you be afraid of being retaliated against by a mad dog?” Jiang Nian glanced at them. “Let’s go back, everyone’s caught.”

The few of them all agreed and walked along the dim campus road towards the teaching building.

“Do you think they’ll be expelled?”

“Hard to say, maybe just probation.”

“What if that person finds out we reported them?”

“Kid, would it kill you to say something auspicious?”

“Don’t panic, if the secret gets out, first activate…”

“What else can we do? Fight them, of course.”

The few of them talked back and forth, without coming to a conclusion, but their hearts were still exhilarated. It was as if they had done something earth-shattering, only to be left with a sense of desolation in the end.

    Evening self-study ended.

The senior year building was bustling with noise, students everywhere heading home or back to their dorms.

Jiang Nian and Xu Qianqian walked side by side on the stairs, surrounded by noisy sounds.

Occasionally, people discussed gossip, and the term ‘male dorm’ was particularly frequent.

Downstairs, Xu Qianqian extricated herself from the crowd and let out a sigh of relief.

“Jiang Nian, want to hear some gossip?” She turned around, backpack on, and said earnestly, “If you treat me to fish balls, I’ll tell you, how about it?”

“Male dorm gossip?” Jiang Nian’s expression was a bit strange, thinking, ‘This spread so fast?’

“How did you know?” Xu Qianqian was stunned.

“Boring. I’m a good student, how would I have time to pay attention to such things?” Jiang Nian said disdainfully, “Stop testing me. Do you think I’d be interested?”

Xu Qianqian was dumbfounded. What was all this about?

But she still got her wish of eating fish balls, one after another, feeling super satisfied, but soon became anxious again.

“Jiang Nian, do you think I’ll get fat eating so much?”

“Silly goose, can’t you imagine the fish balls are cucumbers?” Jiang Nian kindly advised, besides, Xu Qianqian’s weight gain was in all the right places.

“Isn’t that self-deception?” Xu Qianqian felt something was off.

“Exactly, it’s a cheat meal,” Jiang Nian declared confidently. “Did you check if the fish balls have calorie values written on them?”

Xu Qianqian glanced at them and shook her head.

    “Nothing at all.”

Jiang Nian swallowed a fish ball, “If it doesn’t say, it’s zero calories. Eat to your heart’s content.”
