Chapter 196 Life is like Louis XVI, with no end in sight.
by SunflowerThe classroom was brightly lit.
Halfway through the first evening self-study session, Jiang Nian collapsed onto his desk.
He was starving.
He felt like he could eat three pigs in one go.
In the afternoon, he had been too busy showing off his newly acquired skills, and in his excitement, he forgot to eat.
Xu Qianqian hadn’t eaten either, but a girl’s stomach could be big or small. She said she wasn’t hungry on the way and was full after finding a few fruits in the fridge.
Jiang Nian politely declined; fruit couldn’t be a proper meal.
He had tried it once when he was home alone, his parents having gone back to the countryside. He ate a lot of fruit when he was hungry in the afternoon, but then he woke up in the middle of the night with green eyes from hunger.
There was still half an hour until the end of self-study, and he couldn’t hold on any longer.
Oh, Zhang Ningzhi, do you have anything to eat?
The answer he received was negative.
“Snacks make you gain weight, I don’t dare eat them lately,” Zhang Ningzhi explained cautiously. “What should we do then? It’s still early until self-study ends. Are you very hungry right now?”
“I’m fine, I’ll ask someone else,” he said.
Jiang Nian looked at Li Hua and directly reached into his desk compartment.
“You have nothing to eat, what kind of book are you reading!”
Li Hua looked bewildered, then vigorously rubbed some black dirt off his arm with saliva.
“Do you want a Power Pill?”
Jiang Nian opened his mouth, then hesitated, wanting to say something but stopping.
“Hua, I think you could find a rich woman to be a kept man for in the future.”
Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise appeared on Li Hua’s face.
“Really? You also think I’m handsome?”
Ma Guojun, across the aisle, had been paying attention to the commotion over there. He didn’t laugh when Li Hua rubbed the dirt pill with his bare hands, but he couldn’t hold back when he heard that sentence.
“Hahaha, you handsome? Hahaha, holy crap.”
“What? Can you also be a kept man?” Li Hua’s lips curved into a hook. “Old Ma, why are you getting jealous?”
“Jealous? Holy crap, hahaha.” Ma Guojun said before being called out by the Discipline Committee Member, “Jiang Nian means you’re thick-skinned and not afraid of a steel wool scrubber.”
Li Hua was a little sad.
He had just played basketball in the afternoon, and there were too many people playing at that time. He inevitably encountered people who could play and loved to show off, which was truly uncomfortable.
He played for forty minutes, barely touched the ball, but sweated a lot.
Li Hua watched Jiang Nian take a biscuit from Ma Guojun’s hand, unwilling to just watch Jiang Nian eat.
He prepared to rub more dirt pills and pile them on the desk to gross out Jiang Gou.
Jiang Nian saw through Li Hua’s thoughts and directly pulled out a book to block his view. Out of sight, out of mind, directly thwarting Li Hua’s plan on the spot, bringing it to an abrupt end.
He had just unwrapped the biscuit but hadn’t eaten it yet when his back was suddenly tapped.
He turned his head and saw it was Li Qingrong.
“Class Monitor?”
Li Qingrong had extended her hand at some point, making a fist and turning it upwards. She didn’t speak, but her fair, tender palm opened to reveal two candies, lightly resting there.
Then, she offered them forward, as if asking,
Do you want some?
Of course he wanted them, the more the better, he was starving.
“Thank you.”
Jiang Nian only hesitated for a moment before reaching out and taking the candies from Li Qingrong’s palm. His fingers inevitably touched her palm; it wasn’t hot, but a little cool.
This reminded him of ice cream, he somewhat wanted to—
It’s over, he was so hungry he was hallucinating.
He took the candies and then secretly glanced at Li Qingrong. The Class Monitor still looked the same, no changes visible on her face, but she was truly kind.
Jiang Nian turned around and began to secretly eat.
Zhang Ningzhi glanced at Jiang Nian, then, using the action of taking a book from the basket under her seat, she turned and bent down, taking a look at the Class Monitor in the back row.
The Class Monitor was cold on the outside but warm on the inside; she was quite cute.
As soon as evening self-study ended, Jiang Nian was the first to rush out of the classroom.
In the classroom, Sun Zhicheng was smug.
Ever since he learned that Yang Qiming had been cheated on by his girlfriend, he felt instantly relieved. Thinking about the blows he took yesterday, they even felt sweet.
You hitting me certainly hurt, but you probably didn’t hurt as much as your girlfriend did.
They even screamed it out.
Hahaha.
Thinking of this, Sun Zhicheng immediately stood up like a victorious rooster. He disdainfully glanced at Yang Qiming, sneered, and walked out of the classroom.
From an opponent’s perspective, Yang Qiming was already ruined.
He held a weapon no less powerful than a nuclear bomb, capable of instantly defeating Yang Qiming at any time.
No one helps me with my lofty aspirations, I will step on snow to reach the mountain peak.
Was it a misconception, or not?
Huang Cailang felt like he had gotten… fatter recently?
As soon as class ended, he looked at Yang Qiming, just revealing a simple, honest smile. But then he saw Yang Qiming directly sleeping on his desk, which made him swallow his words back.
Alas, Brother Yang was too deeply hurt.
Burp, drank too much water.
Huang Cailang swayed as he stood up, preparing to go to the restroom to relieve himself.
Just as he reached the back door of the classroom, he suddenly heard Dong Wensong bragging, and he happened to be talking about shrimp dumplings. He couldn’t help but stop, thinking, ‘I’m familiar with this.’
After all, he had just eaten them last night, and he still remembered the taste.
“The taste is alright, but more than two gets a bit greasy.”
Upon hearing this, Dong Wensong was stunned.
He couldn’t help but look towards the source of the voice, only seeing Huang Cailang’s simple, honest face.
“You’ve eaten them too?”
These things weren’t actually too expensive, but the price was a bit unfriendly for students. Especially coming from Huang Cailang’s mouth, it seemed even more absurd.
“I’ve eaten them, I think the taste is just average,” Huang Cailang chuckled honestly.
Some people bring joy wherever they go, like Li Hua and Yao Beibei, the social butterflies. And some people only bring joy when they leave.
Like Dong Wensong.
“Cailang, you’re doing well, you’re even eating shrimp dumplings?” Dong Wensong scratched his head, his bovine eyes sizing up Huang Cailang. “Is it *that* shrimp dumpling?”
“The frozen ones, they’re often sold in supermarkets. A few yuan a pack, and to be honest, dogs wouldn’t eat that taste.”
“No, handmade shrimp dumplings, twenty or thirty yuan a serving.” Huang Cailang knew what Dong Wensong meant, but still chuckled, “The taste is average.”
“Alright, you really ate them, haven’t eaten all day, have you?” Dong Wensong laughed loudly. “Those things are super expensive, and I also think they’re not worth it, no need to eat them.”
Huang Cailang nodded in agreement.
“I ate until I was stuffed, almost threw up.”
Dong Wensong’s face turned a little red, and he scratched his ears and cheeks.
“Ah, so you ate a lot then, but to be honest, it’s not very useful. Thirty yuan for just a few, it only fills your stomach a little.”
“Yes, yes,” Huang Cailang chuckled honestly. “Over a hundred yuan completely wasted, I’ll never eat that stuff again in my life, I’m almost traumatized.”
Dong Wensong had nothing more to say, rubbing his palms, not uttering a sound.
Seeing this, Huang Cailang left the classroom.
A night breeze blew, and he suddenly felt refreshed.
He thought, Brother Yang is truly amazing, buying over a hundred yuan worth of shrimp dumplings at once. With such capability, he’s still so low-key in class, and so devoted.
He didn’t fail his mission; he helped Brother Yang look awesome.
Thinking of this, Huang Cailang subtly puffed out his chest.
Unexpectedly, he met the gaze of Sun Zhicheng, who was casually enjoying the breeze in the hallway. Both were awkward and silently looked away.
Sun Zhicheng glanced at Huang Cailang, thinking, ‘Isn’t this Yang Qiming’s lackey?’
Huang Cailang retracted his gaze, thinking that he couldn’t get along too harmoniously with someone who was at odds with Brother Yang. So, he looked straight ahead and walked stiffly towards the restroom.
Zhou Yuting had just returned from the restroom and met Yu Tongjie on the way.
She didn’t dare to greet him at all, so she just lowered her head and quickly walked past. It wasn’t until she reached the classroom door that she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
After being promoted to the next class, everything did not improve as expected.
Instead, her life was like that of Louis XVI, with neither a head nor an end in sight.
She sat back in her seat, glanced at the slumped Yang Qiming, and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Brother Sadness has a new storyline again, what is it this time, a breakup?
Or is he the one hurt by a scummy girl?
Are the tricks to deceive people so old now? Still playing the ‘brokenhearted to gain sympathy’ routine from ten years ago, constantly talking about ex-girlfriends, what era is this!
So annoying, surrounded by a bunch of weirdos, there’s never a peaceful day.
The class bell rang.
Jiang Nian entered the classroom five minutes late, still carrying a bottle of Sprite. Seeing no teacher, he went directly into the classroom and returned to his seat, just about to say something.
Homeroom Teacher Old Liu suddenly arrived and announced the list of those who received poverty subsidies.
The title was typed incorrectly.
