Chapter 156: Such a Solid Family Tree
by SunflowerAt the stairwell, Yu Zhiyi bent down, laboriously moving books.
Monday’s abundant load pressed against the white lining, creating a weighty aesthetic. The high-collared clothing covered her completely, yet it only drew more attention.
She was slowly moving along the corridor, recalling that Wu Jungu hadn’t seemed to look for her these past two days, and his replies to her messages were extremely rare.
As she was thinking, she subconsciously glanced towards Class Three.
She only heard a huge cheer erupt from Class Three, and then every class along the entire corridor exploded with noise.
She was stunned for a moment, then vaguely guessed that it must be a holiday.
Thinking of this, a smile involuntarily appeared on her numb and tired face. No Evening Self-Study was definitely a ninety-nine percent rarity for Senior Three students.
As she painstakingly moved to the entrance of Class Three, only ten meters from her Olympiad Class Two…
Suddenly, an unexpected cheer rang out.
“Aruba! Old Liu!”
“Charge!”
Yu Zhiyi was startled, and the book basket in her hand fell to the floor. She stood on the outermost side of the corridor, watching the boys from Class Three carry their Homeroom Teacher out the door.
Her mouth slightly agape, she stood dumbfounded.
Jiang Nian was deeply involved, brushing past Yu Zhiyi. He didn’t even glance at his Monday girlfriend, with only one thought in his mind: push the damn guy!
Old Liu wasn’t a good person either, heitui! Aruba him!
At 5:40, Jiang Nian tidied his desk and went down to the third floor to wait for Xu Qianqian to go home together.
Olympiad Class Four.
Xu Qianqian’s Homeroom Teacher was still holding a class meeting in the classroom, while other classes had already left. The students in their class eagerly watched the door, where only Jiang Nian stood.
He glanced around, wondering why it wasn’t over yet.
The students in Class Four saw Jiang Nian every evening and were long used to it.
Jiang Nian didn’t make a show of himself; he glanced inside and then retreated to the side to play on his phone.
Zhang Ningzhi was already on her way home. Nanjiang Bay was not too far from the school. With Old Zhang, whom she had never met, picking her up and dropping her off, the risk of early romance in Senior Three was eliminated.
Zhang Ningzhi sent him a message, with an accompanying cute emoji.
“How did you do on the test this time? (cute)”
“The results aren’t out yet, so it’s hard to say.” Jiang Nian first applied a buff, then typed, “If you’re asking about my state, I should have made some progress.”
“How about you?”
The chat interface showed: Zhang Ningzhi is typing.
Suddenly, Jiang Nian became a little curious about what her contact name for him was. Was it his name, or ‘deskmate,’ or something else? If it was something else, he couldn’t imagine it.
He’d find an opportunity to secretly take a look someday.
Zhang Ningzhi’s message suddenly came through, a long message nearly a hundred characters long.
“(Awkward) I did pretty well on the front part of Chinese, but I’m not confident about the essay. Math should be 130?, Comprehensive Science…”
Jiang Nian patiently read it little by little, calculating in his head as he read, and couldn’t help but gasp.
“You’re at least 620, heading straight for 630!”
“(Awkward) It’s not that high, the results aren’t out yet.” Zhang Ningzhi also liked to keep her scores hidden, not wanting to speak too confidently, lest it become awkward later.
For example, after an exam, upon checking answers, to avoid the actual score being lower than her estimated score, she would simply estimate a lower score, only for the actual score to turn out even lower than that low estimate.
Therefore, both of them spoke very cautiously.
It wasn’t a lack of trust in each other, but rather an inherent biological instinct of Senior Three students.
Finally, Zhang Ningzhi added a sentence.
“You’re not allowed to tell anyone else.”
Jiang Nian replied with an emoji, “(Image) Don’t worry, I’ll take this secret to my grave.”
Zhang Ningzhi replied with a sweating yellow bean emoji, “There’s no need to be that tight-lipped.”
At this point, their chat temporarily stopped.
He had originally wanted to mention the goal of six hundred points and treating her to something. But he typed half of it, then changed his mind, deciding to wait until the results were out.
He estimated that all subject scores would probably be released the day after tomorrow.
In the corridor, Jiang Nian waited idly for about twenty minutes. It was almost 6:10, and Olympiad Class Four still showed no sign of ending class.
“What are they talking about? Is the Family Tree that solid?”
As he was murmuring, he suddenly heard a faint rustling sound. Then, a voice came from below the Senior Three Building; someone shouted loudly.
“It’s raining!”
It was late October, and at six o’clock, the sky wasn’t yet dark.
From the moment that shout landed, only a few breaths passed before fine rain began to drift outside the teaching building, and then the sound grew louder and louder.
Inside Olympiad Class Four, which was being held over, the lights were bright, and there were groans everywhere.
“Teacher, it’s raining!”
“Damn it, how am I going to get back without an umbrella! It’s over! My car!”
“Who has an umbrella? Give me a ride.”
“Quiet! It’s just raining, what’s all the fuss about!” The newly replaced Homeroom Teacher of Class Four was a middle-aged woman with a bad temper, “Will you die from getting a little wet!”
Jiang Nian stood in the corridor, shaking his head with a ‘tsk tsk’ sound.
Hard to comment.
He walked to the railing, looking at the heavy rain outside the building, and the wind, mixed with the smell of damp earth, blew in. It hit his face, the rain cool, and he felt a sense of exhilaration in his heart.
The Joint Exam was over, and the Evening Self-Study was off.
He hadn’t brought an umbrella, but he had performed very well, having worked hard for a month. Everything, at this moment, transformed into wisps of cool breeze, like some kind of echo.
After the Joint Exam, he and Zhang Ningzhi were completely safe, true members of the Olympiad Class Three.
From now on, the only major exam that would concern him was the College Entrance Exam.
As if he had been tense for a long time, Jiang Nian breathed a sigh of relief and even watched the rain with interest. When a person is in a good mood, everything looks pleasant.
He hadn’t brought an umbrella, but Xu Qianqian definitely had.
Go home in the rain, take a shower, lie on the bed and play on his phone. Buy some things, finalize his plans, chat with his younger sisters, and play games until ten o’clock before falling asleep.
Just thinking about it, he was already starting to feel great.
Buzz, his phone vibrated.
He thought it was a message from Zhang Ningzhi, but he pulled out his phone and looked down to see it was Chen Yunyun.
“Are you back yet?”
“No.”
After a while, Chen Yunyun sent a message.
“Did you bring an umbrella?”
Jiang Nian glanced inside Xu Qianqian’s class and typed a reply.
“I have an umbrella.”
“OK.”
In the girls’ dormitory, Chen Yunyun put down her phone.
She had just been eating in the dorm cafeteria when the rain started falling heavily and quickly. She and Wang Yuhe were instantly soaked, but luckily they had gotten hot water at noon.
Wipe their hair, wipe their bodies, change clothes, and wait for the rain to stop before taking a shower.
Wang Yuhe had already filled two buckets of water, the temperature just right. She poked her head out, curiously looked at Chen Yunyun, and called out to her.
“Help me get my clothes.”
“Okay.”
Chen Yunyun took her own clothes and also brought Wang Yuhe’s clothes from her bed. The two entered the small bathroom; the dorm lights would stay on until eleven o’clock.
In the bathroom, under the orange light, mist filled the air.
Chen Yunyun chatted with Wang Yuhe while washing herself.
“Yuhe, were that couple at the cafeteria just now from our class?”
“That big-chested girl?” Wang Yuhe asked.
Hearing this, Chen Yunyun blushed slightly, thinking that was too direct.
“No, Ji Jiayu and her boyfriend seemed to be arguing.”
