Chapter Index

Outside, the sky was dim, but the classroom was brightly lit.

Wu Jungu wasn’t there, and Chen Yunyun had run over to his seat to chat with Jiang Nian.

She found herself liking chatting with Jiang Nian more and more; no matter what she said, he could always respond.

Crucially, Jiang Nian’s responses were very smooth, with no awkward pauses at all. Chatting with him felt like being in her element, making her happier the more they talked.

It wasn’t until it was almost time for evening self-study that Chen Yunyun reluctantly left.

Li Hua, her deskmate, also participated in the chat and knew who Chen Yunyun was there for. To be honest, he wasn’t too keen on this kind of chat that might affect studying.

His own failure was regrettable, but a friend’s success was even more disheartening.

“Brother, when did you two become so close?”

    “Who?”

“Chen Yunyun, she specifically came over to chat with you.”

“Ah? What do you mean’specifically’?” Jiang Nian asked back with a confused expression, “Didn’t she also come to discuss math answers with you?”

This reason was plausible enough; Chen Yunyun didn’t just chat with Jiang Nian. She included Li Hua and Huang Fang in her conversation circle, both in front and behind them.

Wu Jungu hadn’t arrived, and Zeng You was engrossed in his novel, oblivious to the world.

Zhang Ningzhi also didn’t join the chat, spending the entire time hunched over her desk doing homework, refusing to speak up.

Li Hua mimicked Conan, adjusting his non-existent glasses.

“That’s true, but she’s clearly a new friend of yours, isn’t she?”

Just then, Lin Dong walked over, holding a stack of math test papers. He stopped in front of Li Hua’s seat and interrupted their chat with a test paper.

“Here, Brother Nian, your test paper.”

    Brother Nian?

Li Hua was stunned, hearing the fawning tone, and looked at Lin Dong in shock. Lin Dong called him Brother Nian? When did they become so familiar?

Chen Yunyun seemed to be in Lin Dong’s group too, what was going on?

Zhang Ningzhi was also intrigued. She looked up from her mountain of books and questions, curiously glancing at Jiang Nian’s score.

    “You scored 116, that’s amazing.”

After confirming the look, it wasn’t sarcasm.

Jiang Nian, however, felt even worse, “Ha, didn’t get an excellent score. How much did you get?”

“I don’t know, the test papers haven’t…” Zhang Ningzhi hadn’t finished speaking when her test paper was handed over, “…been distributed.”

Not just hers, but all the test papers for the sixth group were found.

“Leaving now, Brother Nian.” Lin Dong finished his task, brushed his clothes, and left, his accomplishments deeply hidden.

    The sixth group.

Those who enjoyed the privilege all turned their gaze towards Jiang Nian, with multiple lines of sight. Except for Wu Jungu, who hadn’t returned, every single one of them looked at him with strange expressions.

Li Hua couldn’t hold back, “You didn’t betray the group, did you?”

    “No.”

Zeng You said, “The group traitor has already revealed himself!”

Huang Fang: “Something fishy is going on.”

Zhang Ningzhi nodded, “A philandering cat.”

“What the hell, what kind of analogy is that?” Jiang Nian was already sweating, “Isn’t it normal for me to make a few more friends?”

“Nian, as a group leader, I’m happy to see you’re good at socializing. But I think compared to diplomacy, shouldn’t we first strengthen group cohesion?”

“What do you mean?” Jiang Nian was amused.

Li Hua stroked his chin, “For example, Brother Jun has been returning to the classroom only just before class these past few days. Aren’t you concerned about him?”

Zhang Ningzhi, hearing this, bit her lower lip and nodded, strongly agreeing.

    “Exactly, exactly.”

“Huh? No.” Jiang Nian was a bit speechless, “Isn’t Brother Jun busy accompanying his girlfriend? Speaking of which, he’s the one who cares least about the group, isn’t he!”

Hmm? What’s with Ningzhi’s dissatisfied tone?

“Brother Jun’s girlfriend is so pretty, it’s only natural to spend more time with her.” Li Hua had no intention of letting go of the topic, “If it were me, I’d give double the betrothal gift.”

“You truly are a disgrace to Zhennan men, no girlfriend and you’re already thinking about exploding with gold coins.” Jiang Nian said disdainfully, “I’ll reward you with a 380,000 betrothal gift, you deserve it.”

“Don’t generalize, Zhennan is a land of outstanding people, not everyone is as you say.” Li Hua was sweating and patted Huang Fang in the front seat.

“Hey, Huang Fang, how much is it in your area?”

Huang Fang glanced at him, said ‘you’re sick,’ and turned back.

    Everything was unspoken.

“County town. County town is different, it’s not as scary as you say.” Li Hua was stubborn, “Ask Zhang Ningzhi, hey, don’t perpetuate these stereotypes.”

    “You’re so boring, man.”

“Hahaha, your mom.” Jiang Nian was overjoyed, laughing non-stop.

Zhennan people have their own regional memes.

From evening reading, class representatives for each subject took turns copying answers on the board. For the first subject, math, Lin Dong copied answers at the blackboard, while below, there was a chorus of ‘grass’.

Grass, grass, grass, a cacophony of ‘grass’ sounds.

Zhang Ningzhi looked up at the blackboard, then rubbed her eyes.

    “Can’t see clearly?”

“Ah?” She was startled by Jiang Nian’s sudden question, and after realizing, she softly hummed, “A little, the blackboard is a bit reflective.”

“Alright, wait for me.” Jiang Nian climbed over Li Hua’s seat, went to the podium, and said something to Lin Dong, who nodded.

When Jiang Nian came down, Li Hua stared at him with a resentful look.

    Traitor!

The wound of betrayal never heals, you little brat want to betray the group, do you!

“Why are you looking at me?” Jiang Nian pushed Li Hua aside, sidestepping back from behind the chair, “Get out of the way, your dad’s Fruit Robo Armor is returning to its position.”

Li Hua whimpered, “Betraying the group, harming brothers, dying under ten thousand knives.”

“You recite the group rules pretty well, Hua.” Jiang Nian said casually, then turned to Zhang Ningzhi, “The answers will be brought over later, you can do something else for now.”

“Oh, oh, okay.” Zhang Ningzhi felt a slight warmth in her heart.

Li Hua’s heart ached even more. Jiang Nian was already on such good terms with Lin Dong! Asking the class representative for first-hand original answers to win over a girl!

Buddy, I wanted you to succeed, but not like this!

    So annoying!

“Nian, I’ll make Ma Guojun eat the test papers, you break up with Lin Dong.” Li Hua’s eyes were filled with tears, “Really, Ma Guojun is willing to do anything.”

Jiang Nian shook his head, speaking earnestly.

“Baby, I’m always progressing, while you’re still content with the status quo. Lin Dong is the math class representative, and you’re just a mere first in math in the class.”

“He has a position, you can’t stop me from moving towards better people, can you?”

Your mom! The first sword after landing ashore, struck at a brother!

“Seriously, how did your relationship suddenly get so good?” Li Hua asked quietly, “This guy, how do I put it, besides liking to show off a bit…”

“Nothing, just helped him with a small favor.”

After a while, Lin Dong indeed came down with the math answers and handed them to Jiang Nian before leaving. Jiang Nian took them and showed Li Hua the solution process for the last small question.

After he finished looking, he handed them to Zhang Ningzhi.

The answers circulated within the group, and everyone enjoyed the benefits of the privilege. Gradually, Li Hua couldn’t keep his lips from curving upwards and changed his tune.

“Lin Dong, that guy, he’s actually pretty good.”

The process of checking answers lasted from evening reading until the second period of evening self-study. The students in the class discussed quietly, and almost everyone understood most of their incorrect problems on their own.

Except for those with weak foundations in specific subjects.

Zhang Ningzhi was carefully explaining a math problem to Jiang Nian, “For this one, you first need to draw the main view of the cone. The angle between the generatrix and the base is called α, and the other…”

Jiang Nian listened very attentively, so he asked Zhang Ningzhi to explain it twice.

Swoosh, swoosh, her voice was so nice.

Li Hua sneered from the side, unable to explain such a simple problem. Jiang Nian must have been blind, too concerned with Face to ask him such questions.

    Heh heh, he couldn’t understand.

Suddenly, the brightly lit classroom was plunged into darkness.

The classroom instantly fell silent for two seconds.

    The next moment.

    “Oh woo!!! Whoa whoa!!!”

    “Power outage!!! Holy crap!”

    “Power outage!”

Darkness instantly swallowed everyone, and cheers, like a porcelain vase dropping, exploded in the classroom.

The entire classroom was in an uproar, students stood up directly from their seats! Cheers and shouts of joy rose and fell! Everyone was excited, like monkeys let out of a cage!

The soft moonlight from outside shone in, revealing scattered lights from homes in the darkness.

“Quiet!” The discipline committee member came out to maintain order.

No one listened, and some even stood up in disbelief. Their eyes widened instantly, and all their stress and annoyance vanished in an instant!

    “Oh oh oh!!! Power outage!”

Some people took advantage of the chaos to leave, like Wu Jungu, who went to the next classroom to find his girlfriend.

Class monitor Li Qingrong looked at the chaotic class with no reaction on her Face, nor did she plan to go out and ask about the situation. What was meant to come would come, and what wasn’t, wouldn’t.

The classroom was too dark to do homework. She stared ahead for a few seconds, then turned to look at Jiang Nian’s seat. It was pitch black there, with only a few blurry figures visible.

She touched her little bear hair tie, loosening her hair a bit.

Someone started hitting people with books in the dark, “Who hit my head, which son of a bitch, was it you? Or you?”

“Holy crap! You’re a pervert! Don’t touch my chicken!”

There were actually a few young couples in the class, but Old Liu usually didn’t care. Every self-study session, and even during class, they would secretly switch seats, and now with the power outage, they completely achieved Fusion.

Some also took advantage of the chaos to confess their feelings, and more often, secretly confessed for others. Everyone was very excited, a suppressed urge in their hearts, wanting to go out or shout it out.

“I, Sun Zhicheng, like Chen Yunyun!”

“Get lost!! Don’t you dare spread rumors!”

Or they simply hugged each other.

“Baby, don’t be scared, it’s so dark, even the teacher won’t see us.”

    “Okay.”

Someone was singing: “I’m watching, how much time is left.”

“Grass, can’t you change the song!”

“Sleep, sleep, a power outage is a good time to sleep. Call me if the homeroom teacher comes, I’m going to sleep first.”

“Where are my glasses? Does anyone have a light, help me shine it, my glasses are gone!”

A few people had already left the classroom, going to the restroom or checking the situation in the hallway. Li Hua was the first to run, directly sneaking off to the academic affairs office to inquire about the situation.

Of the six people in the sixth group, one ‘Love Brother’ ran off, and one ‘Damn Kid’ Li Hua.

Only Huang Fang remained, silently memorizing vocabulary in the dark, and secretly opening her textbook in the faint light. Sister Fang truly lived up to her title as the only Great Emperor of the sixth group, studying with single-minded devotion.

The Holy Light that appeared on Zeng You’s Face the moment the power went out almost scared him to death. Seeing that no one was paying attention, he then pulled out his phone, hiding it among his books to continue reading his novel.

In the flickering moonlight, Zhang Ningzhi quietly turned her head, looking towards Jiang Nian’s seat. The moment she turned, her gaze met Jiang Nian’s.

Her eyes instantly widened, and she gasped.

In the dim moonlight, the girl’s Face curved like a crescent moon. Her blurred eyelashes trembled slightly, her gaze darting about like popping candy held in her mouth.

Thump-thump-thump, the girl’s heart was in utter disarray at this moment.

The sweetness of the power outage’s joy and excitement, increased by one.
