Chapter Index

Jiang Nian felt a bit awkward; he had just told Li Qingrong that he didn’t like playing on his phone.

The next second, his phone rang in his pocket.

“Actually, I’m using my phone critically.”

Li Qingrong turned her face away, but her slightly trembling shoulders betrayed her.

Isn’t your laughter threshold that low, Class Monitor? You don’t mind if I sell this secret to others, do you?

Jiang Nian turned his head, trying to distract himself, looking towards the basketball court.

Li Hua stood on a stone bench, pointing towards their side and shouting something loudly. It was too far to hear clearly, but it sounded like words such as “father.”

He’s so filial; I’ll reward him with a stepmother someday.

The moment he stepped into the cafeteria, the dismissal bell rang. It was two minutes later than the estimated six minutes. Indeed, women affect the speed of drawing a sword.

He shouldn’t be here; he should be in the heart of the cafeteria auntie.

At the entrance of the cafeteria, under Li Qingrong’s slightly surprised gaze, Jiang Nian ran off almost without hesitation.

“Sister, that eggplant!” Jiang Nian shouted urgently.

Li Qingrong pursed her lips, holding her tray to get food, when she suddenly saw a throng of people surging in from the cafeteria entrance.

First and second-year students, each with a book. *Pa pa pa*, as soon as they entered the cafeteria, they each took up their duties.

One person placed books to occupy seats, while several others queued. In less than ten seconds, the cafeteria seats were filled with colorful books as far as the eye could see.

The queue stretched outside the cafeteria, still crowded with people.

Li Qingrong was slightly stunned, eating in the cafeteria for the first time. After realizing what was happening, she quickly searched for a seat, otherwise, she would truly have to eat standing.

Although she didn’t mind, it would still be awkward.

She instinctively looked for Jiang Nian, but found that a junior girl was faster, running towards Jiang Nian with two books in hand.

Jiang Nian’s seat was by the window, which should have been a prime spot. The junior girl looked regretful; she felt awkward placing books opposite Jiang Nian, so she could only place two books at the other end of the long table.

Li Qingrong breathed a sigh of relief and walked to the seat opposite Jiang Nian and sat down.

Jiang Nian looked at her curiously.

“No seats left,” Li Qingrong said calmly, beginning to eat quietly.

“Oh, no problem.” Jiang Nian wasn’t that narcissistic; he was just a bit curious why she was so slow. “The cafeteria is like this, Class Monitor, next time you…”

He suddenly realized that Li Qingrong wouldn’t often eat in the cafeteria, and immediately lost the desire to continue speaking.

There wouldn’t be a next time.

“Next time what?” Li Qingrong suddenly asked.

“Huh?” Jiang Nian was stunned. Why was she tracking him? Can I eat at your house next time, baby?

“Uh, nothing, the cafeteria is just very crowded.”

Yu Tongjie rarely ate in the cafeteria. Today, after physical education class was dismissed, he didn’t go play basketball or football, but instead found a cool corner to memorize vocabulary.

He had already asked his cousin who attended a 985 university, and she said that there was no such thing as completely memorizing English words. Memorizing words well was indeed helpful, but no one was foolish enough to memorize all of them.

This statement immediately gave him confidence. Jiang Nian was indeed bluffing. Since the opponent wasn’t invincible, it meant he had revealed his health bar and wasn’t unbeatable.

He swore to wash away the humiliation from last time, memorize words diligently, and score 140 on the end-of-month exam to defeat Jiang Nian.

Who knew he accidentally studied too much, and by the time he came to his senses, school was already out.

Going home was too time-consuming; it was better to just eat in the cafeteria. The time saved could be used to memorize his own words, and he even silently memorized words while queuing for his tray.

He turned around and faced the same problem of no seats.

Yu Tongjie was a bit embarrassed. The incident in class last time had already plunged his self-esteem to rock bottom, and he couldn’t withstand any more blows.

So, while memorizing words, he walked back and forth in the cafeteria looking for a seat.

Unfortunately, someone who cared about their image couldn’t grab a seat in the cafeteria. He had just found a spot. *Pa!* A dark-skinned jock ran over and took it.

Well, a gentleman uses his mouth, not his hands.

He ran to another side to look for a seat, and just as he found a good one, seven or eight girls suddenly appeared from nowhere. *Hoo hoo hoo*, they occupied it with first-year textbooks.

He finally found a seat and was about to sit down when a pretty first-year girl said,

“Handsome, you’re tall and handsome, can you let me have this seat?”

The old third-year student blushed, and Yu Tongjie forgot his words, stammering,

    “Okay.”

After wandering for half a day, his food was already cold.

People were still continuously entering the cafeteria entrance, swallowing up first, second, and third-year students. Saying it like that sounds a bit suggestive. In short, Yu Tongjie had no seat and stood in the middle of the aisle like an idiot.

Until he heard a girl shout, “Let’s go, let’s go, back to the dorm to wash our hair.”

Yu Tongjie immediately felt a ‘yuck’ in his heart and quickly walked towards the sound. His legs weren’t tired, but he felt like everyone around him was looking at him, and he couldn’t bear it.

He lifted his foot and walked over, stepping aside to make way. Just as he was about to sit down, he saw two familiar people sitting by the window, which had been obscured by the crowd but was now empty.

    Li Qingrong. And Jiang Nian!

Yu Tongjie was as if someone had pressed a time-stop button; he froze in place. He and Li Qingrong had known each other for a long time, they were in the same class in junior high, and their families occasionally visited each other during Chinese New Year.

He saw that Jiang Nian had almost finished eating, and he pulled out his phone. Li Qingrong frowned slightly.

    “The school doesn’t allow phones.”

Hearing this, Yu Tongjie couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Sure enough, Li Qingrong was too rigid; she couldn’t possibly have feelings for Jiang Nian. Most people couldn’t stand Li Qingrong’s rigid personality; not falling out with her was already good.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Nian wasn’t embarrassed at all, nor did he put his phone away. He said earnestly,

“I really can’t stop playing on my phone. In fact, I have severe anxiety. As soon as I leave my phone, I start thinking about my terrible, failed life.”

Hearing this, Li Qingrong thought that Jiang Nian had been promoted to their class, and a hint of apology actually appeared on her face.

    “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you…”

Jiang Nian showed a sad smile, “It’s okay, I’m used to it.”

The smile on Yu Tongjie’s face disappeared. This is outrageous! Such a crude lie, why don’t you expose him?! You just believed it? What’s going on?

Li Qingrong lowered her head, the apology on her face even more obvious.

    “Sorry.”

Jiang Nian was about to say something saucy when he turned his head and caught sight of the eavesdropping kid. His gaze swept over Yu Tongjie, his face showing doubt, and he slowly formed a question mark.

    “Classmate, you look familiar?”

Yu Tongjie felt a lump in his throat upon hearing this. He wanted to leave but found that there were no seats outside. He could only meet Li Qingrong’s gaze and awkwardly sat on the other side.

He didn’t taste anything during this meal, even suspecting that the cafeteria chef had lost his sense of taste. Why did this food taste like chewing wax, like something specially provided for Qingming Festival?

He didn’t know when Jiang Nian and the others left. He walked towards the tray collection point with a gloomy mood.

A familiar sweet voice came to his ears, like that first-year girl who called him handsome.

“Hey, lucky today, ran into an old third-year toad who gave up his seat for me.”

Yu Tongjie’s vision immediately went black.

Received many rewards and monthly passes. Thank you, bosses, for your support. Good waist, good kidneys.

Orz, I have no way to thank you, so I’ll kowtow.
