Chapter 83: Frequency
by SunflowerChen Sixuan’s gaze sharpened. How many times had the team faced danger while she could only hide in the safest part of the train? Although Lin Xian felt she had been helpful, having gone through so many fierce battles, Chen Sixuan’s mentality had toughened. She felt she needed to master some self-defense skills. Now, with Lin Xian absent, this need became even stronger.
Shasha looked at Chen Sixuan with a surprised expression and stuck out her tongue. “Alright, but I’m not very good with it either. I only know how to shoot, but I don’t know how to aim accurately with this kind of sniper rifle.”
“It’s okay.” Chen Sixuan walked over and took down the sniper rifle. The moment it was in her hands, she felt a sudden, heavy weight. She clenched her jaw, lifted it, and let out a soft breath. “It really is heavy… But with this weapon, if we encounter monsters like the ones before, this gun might be useful.”
“It definitely will be!”
Shasha nodded. “This thing has a lot of power and a very long range. I’ve seen it on TV before. One shot can go right through a car, biu biu~”
“Sister Chen, this is the trigger, and the safety is here.”
“Mm, okay.”
“This is the bipod. Big guns like this usually need a bipod unless you’re really strong. Otherwise, you can’t do an unsupported prone shot…”
“What’s unsupported?”
“It means holding it up without any support. This is very heavy, you probably can’t do it. Also, this is an M3 optical 10x super scope. You can see very far. Sister Chen, you should set up the gun first and give it a try. Oh, and the recoil from this kind of gun is usually pretty strong, so you need to pay attention to your posture.”
“Okay!”
As if her sleepiness had vanished, Chen Sixuan, with Shasha’s help, began to seriously learn about the gun’s components and the principles of aiming.
Thump thump~
Suddenly, a sound came, and the two of them immediately stopped what they were doing.
“Sister Chen!”
Shasha said softly.
“That sound, it seems to be coming from outside.”
Hearing this, Chen Sixuan frowned and quickly made a hushing gesture. Then, she tiptoed to the window and lifted a corner of the blackout panel.
A flashlight beam suddenly flashed by the side of the train.
Chen Sixuan immediately covered her mouth in surprise.
There were people outside!
Whoosh whoosh~
In the dark night, the wind and snow intensified. All the lights on the train were off.
Chen Sixuan and Shasha stood inside Car 1, nervously peering outside.
“It seems like there’s more than one person,” Shasha said in a low voice. “Sister Chen, our train might have been targeted.”
Chen Sixuan’s face showed unease. “This stretch of road is a major route to Great Luo Mountain and Yubei City, not far from the highway. Maybe someone saw a train parked here and wanted to come check it out.”
“Then what should we do? Should we respond?” Shasha asked.
“Have you encountered this kind of situation before?”
“Before… my brother and I would also encounter other groups on the road. But most of them just went their own way. Sometimes, friendlier ones would communicate with each other during the day or form a convoy at night. But with our current situation, others are probably more curious…”
Chen Sixuan shook her head. “Let’s observe the situation first. It’s already night, and it’s dangerous outside. If it’s just other survivors coming to investigate, they’ll probably take a look and leave. But if they have ill intentions, we need to be careful.”
Shasha nodded.
“Mm, Brother Lin has already upgraded the armor. We should be very safe.”
Chen Sixuan nodded, then suddenly thought of something. She pulled Shasha over and whispered in her ear, “Go remind your brother to be on alert at the back. We still have two cars on our flatbed trailer.”
“Oh, right.”
Shasha’s eyes widened. Those two cars were on an open-air trailer. If someone quietly drove them away, it would be a significant loss.
Understanding this, she immediately crouched down and ran toward the back.
Meanwhile, Chen Sixuan went to the cockpit and looked out through the porthole. The night was as black as ink. Rustling sounds came from the tracks. It seemed there were several sets of footsteps outside the train. As the footsteps approached, Chen Sixuan immediately backed away, hiding in the shadows of the corridor.
Bang bang~
At that moment, someone started climbing onto the front of the train. A flashlight beam shone in, scanning the interior.
“Huh, looks like no one’s here?” a man said in a low voice.
“Maybe they’re sleeping in another car?” another person said.
“Be careful. This train is fully armored. It’s definitely not an ordinary train.”
“You keep an eye out here, I’ll go make contact.”
“Okay…”
…
In the shadows, Chen Sixuan tightly covered her mouth. Taking advantage of the moment the flashlight wasn’t on her, she quietly moved to Car 1, picked up the walkie-talkie, and hid in a corner.
“Shasha, there are a lot of them. You guys be careful.”
“Okay. If they try to do anything, we’ll fire a warning shot.”
“Right, let’s intimidate them first. Show them we’re armed. If it’s a regular group of survivors, they might get scared off.”
“Sister Chen, those people are just watching us without moving. Maybe they’re planning something? If a fight really breaks out, do you think we should drive away?”
Shasha’s worried tone came through the walkie-talkie.
Chen Sixuan’s expression was grim. She could, of course, see their current predicament.
The train’s lights were off, and snow was accumulating on the roof. This situation might send the wrong signal to others.
“Definitely not. Lin Xian hasn’t come back yet…”
Her gaze shifted to the back, where the radio still sat quietly on the sofa.
Her subconscious told her that Lin Xian was still on the train. If she drove the train away now, she didn’t know what trouble it might cause for him.
“That’s true, Brother Lin, he… Hey, Sister Chen, listen.”
Just as she finished speaking, the two women suddenly heard an extremely faint noise coming from between Car 3 and Car 2.
This time, the sound was inside the train.
For some reason, hearing this sound, Chen Sixuan was both terrified and a little overjoyed. Both she and Shasha felt that the sound was probably Lin Xian, which also meant that Lin Xian was still alive!
Bang bang bang!
But just then, gunshots suddenly erupted from Car 5.
Dalou was firing a machine gun through a firing port next to the rear plate. He had discovered several sneaky individuals who had, at some point, circled around to the back of the train, climbed onto their flatbed trailer, and started undoing the steel chains securing the cars.
The sound of machine-gun fire instantly echoed through the valley. A stream of metal projectiles hit the side of the flatbed car and the snow, sending up a shower of sparks and snow dust.
The few people who were sneakily investigating were immediately scared into scattering, heads in their hands. One unlucky fellow was shot through the shoulder, blood splattering everywhere as he screamed and wailed in pain!
The gunshots instantly deterred the prowlers in the night, and the group quickly disappeared into the darkness.
Argh!!
The loud gunshots attracted many zombies, which let out howls and began running quickly toward them from the mountain forest.
“Some of them have climbed onto the train!”
Shasha raised her grenade launcher and said to Chen Sixuan over the walkie-talkie, “Sister Chen, you need to be careful.”
The atmosphere instantly tensed.
Hearing Shasha’s words, Chen Sixuan’s brow furrowed. But right now, her attention could only be focused inside the car, watching for any clues Lin Xian might be sending.
She didn’t turn on the lights and began to carefully pay attention to the movements inside the car.
But suddenly, all the lights on the entire train lit up. Chen Sixuan jumped in fright. She looked at the lights above her, a little puzzled.
With a certain guess in mind, she walked to the light control panel.
Click.
She turned the lights off again.
