Chapter Index

At the Rain Town station, the Infinity was parked quietly. A convoy of dozens of people had silently driven into the hidden woods outside the station. Countless pairs of eyes were fixed on the black heavy train.

Some agile gunmen had already scouted their way to the outskirts of the station, hiding behind buildings, and had now completely surrounded the Infinity.

“Brother Rui, this train’s armor is really tight. We can’t even find a ventilation shaft. How are we supposed to throw the bone worms in?”

A skinny man at the front whispered into his walkie-talkie as he scouted.

“It’s impossible for there to be no holes, otherwise the people inside would suffocate. Find the gaps, those bone worms can smell the scent of people and crawl inside,” Luo Rui said from the woods. He had gotten out of his vehicle and was constantly observing with his binoculars.

“Brother Rui, Guo Sheng and Team Three are already in position at the tracks outside. Are we sure we’re not going to support Brother Ding?” another voice, a fat man’s, came through.

    “No need.”

Luo Rui’s face turned cold, and he smiled. “Brother Ding likes to be the good guy. I’ll do this kind of dirty work for him.”

As he spoke, he looked at the train, his eyes narrowing.

Initially, under Ding Qing’s leadership, the Vajra convoy had fled eastward with great spirit and courage. They had fought their way out of the darkness countless times, and the team grew stronger. Everyone shared weal and woe on the road, fighting against the darkness.

But perhaps after a long time, many people began to feel numb to the endless escape, day and night. Even Ding Qing himself began to doubt whether the team could survive until tomorrow.

It was at this time that they arrived in Rain Town. Although they suffered some casualties at first due to the Impersonators, after a period of rest, everyone gradually discovered the difference here.

There were no endless tides of corpses, no surging Aberrations in the night. As long as they hid in a shelter and learned to identify the infiltration of Impersonators, the team could obtain rare safety and respite.

But not long after, Aberrations began to invade the town at night. Just when everyone thought this place was no longer safe, some of the original survivors who were hiding here told them that if they threw corpses into the deep pool of the chemical plant to feed the lantern flower, the Aberrations would no longer appear.

Discovering this pattern, the convoy members felt as if they had found a treasure. When there were no corpses to feed for a period of time, they began to wait for outside survivors to die in the town. They could then scavenge the supplies carried by these unlucky survivors and transport the corpses to the chemical plant. Thus, a symbiotic balance was formed.

The Vajra convoy and the original survivors obtained survival supplies and a safe environment, and were then responsible for feeding the blood food.

Later, as the blood food became scarcer, the mentality of the convoy members quietly changed. A group led by Luo Rui began to actively lure some survivors into the town.

At first, he told Ding Qing and Duan Min that the purpose was to help those who encountered Aberrations in the night enter the town for shelter. Whether they chose to leave during the day or enter the town to search for treasures was their own choice. If they died, it had nothing to do with them.

In fact, everyone knew that this was just an excuse to deceive themselves. But when most of them began to fear the night and rely on this shelter, everyone, including Ding Qing, seemed to tacitly approve of this behavior.

It wasn’t until later, when Luo Rui began to directly attack the survivors who entered the town, that they realized they had completely become the executioners of the night.

Therefore, this attack on the Infinity was arranged by Luo Rui and his subordinates. These people had followed him and were already bloodthirsty. In order to continue living in Rain Town, they had long since become unscrupulous.

    “Everyone get ready.”

Luo Rui picked up the walkie-talkie. “When Team Three blows up the tracks, everyone open fire together. Let’s see their reaction first. If they fight back and try to run, we’ll move out after they derail and overturn. Team Two, guard the station gate to prevent their team in the city from counterattacking.”

    “Roger, Brother Rui.”

    Rustle, rustle, rustle~

In the woods, many figures flickered. A net of encirclement was quietly laid out. The Vajra convoy’s vehicles were equipped with heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, and other weapons. Having fought their way here, the individual combat strength of the evolved convoy members was not low, and they all cooperated tacitly.

On the Infinity, Da Lou held the Roarer K23 electric rotary machine gun, looking outside with a wary expression. In car number 2, Lou Shasha looked at the flickering figures in the woods on the screen, her brows furrowed into a knot.

“Brother Lin was right. These people really came to attack our train directly.”

“But what are these people doing…”

On the monitoring screen, the Infinity’s Sentinel system, combined with its radar system, had infrared and heat source capture functions. The stealthy movements of Luo Rui’s several teams were like they were running naked in front of Shasha. She directly activated the enemy-locking function, allowing the Sentinel system to track their movements in advance.

“Shasha,” Chen Sixuan’s voice came through the communicator. “Some of them are approaching from behind the train.”

Shasha nodded and gave Lou Ye a look. Da Lou immediately walked towards car number 11.

“I see their people have circled around to the front of the tracks. They probably want to destroy the tracks,” Chen Sixuan slowly moved her gun barrel, looking into the distance, her finger on the trigger.

    “Sister Chen!”

Shasha quickly said, “Don’t shoot first, or they’ll all spot you and it’ll be troublesome.”

Chen Sixuan was taken aback, then released her finger. “Alright, I was about to be impulsive.”

She thought for a moment and said to Shasha and the others, “Then let them blow it up. They probably think that once the tracks are destroyed, we’ll have no way out, and then they’ll show themselves.”

“Right,” Shasha said. “They’ll definitely be on guard against Sister Shu Qin’s return. We’ll just hang them out to dry for now and catch them off guard later.”

Chen Sixuan hummed in agreement. She had to admit that Shasha was quite the little devil, so young yet so calm. Facing an enemy siege, she was actually thinking of fishing?

Seeing her teammate’s composure, Chen Sixuan also took a deep breath. She remained quiet and began to focus her gaze on the direction of the enemy’s heavy weapons.

    Boom! Boom!

Suddenly, two deafening explosions came from the east and west directions of the station. Black smoke billowed, and even the glass of the station vibrated.

    “Brother Rui, it’s blown!”

Luo Rui and the others, hiding behind cover, were closely watching the train in the station. Hearing the explosion, everyone immediately raised their guns, waiting for Luo Rui’s order to fire at any moment.

Luo Rui’s eyes narrowed. He held the walkie-talkie with a calm expression, preparing to order his men to attack.

After a few minutes, the train still hadn’t moved. He picked up his binoculars again and looked towards the town, but no vehicles came out.

“What’s going on? Didn’t this group call for rescue?” the fat man said.

“They’re probably waiting to see what happens,” Luo Rui sneered. “The road is gone. They can’t run even if they want to.”

He picked up the walkie-talkie. “Team Two, set up an ambush inside the station. If that group comes back, open fire immediately. Leave no one alive.”

    “Understood.”

A group began to move behind the station’s buildings.

At the same time, Luo Rui returned to his vehicle, took out a transponder, and gave a look to a subordinate next to him. The subordinate immediately understood, stood up, and fired a burst of bullets at the train.

    Rat-tat-tat!

The sound of gunfire erupted, and the scene immediately became heated.

Luo Rui pressed the transponder. “Listen up, everyone on the train! We’ve blown up the road, and your teammates aren’t coming back. I’ll give you one minute to open the doors and surrender. Otherwise, we don’t mind showing you our firepower. We’ll keep the train, but not the people!”
