Chapter 132: Metahuman Hunters
by SunflowerBoom, boom, boom!
On the zombie-filled streets, a heavy truck with a scoop attached was frantically carving a bloody path. Following behind were an armored bus full of women and children, and several off-road vehicles and pickups. As the convoy fled, the people in the vehicles continuously fired their guns at the pursuers behind them.
“They’re catching up!” the driver of a pickup truck shouted, looking in his rearview mirror.
“Damn it!” The convoy’s leader, a middle-aged man with blood seeping from his forehead, was in the passenger seat of an off-road vehicle. Looking at the endless tide of zombies surging ahead, he gritted his teeth. “Why are all these zombies swarming us?”
“Rocket!”
A shout came through the walkie-talkie.
The words had barely faded when a whistling sound cut through the air.
*Swoosh! Boom!*
An off-road vehicle bringing up the rear exploded violently. The vehicle’s body was sent flipping by the fiery impact, and the people inside instantly became a fireball.
“Ah Jie! Li Qian!!”
The middle-aged man cried out in alarm, but there was no response from the walkie-talkie.
“Let’s fight them to the death!!”
His eyes flashed, and deep red scales appeared on his neck and the sides of his face. His hands transformed into beast-like claws resembling a T-Rex’s. He directly opened the car door and climbed onto the roof.
The other team members’ eyes were about to split with rage. In an instant, a dozen guns opened fire on the dark mass of vehicles behind them.
A few hundred meters behind, three large black trucks were smeared with green graffiti, followed by a dozen or so vehicles with sharp armor. The one who fired the rocket was a yellow-haired man with a face full of tattoos. Even in this apocalypse, he had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. With a crazed grin, he popped his head out from the roof of an off-road vehicle, holding a rocket launcher, looking ecstatic at the vehicle he had just blown up.
“Hahaha, a hit, a hit!” he said, slapping the roof of the car. “Boss, have Luoluo push them a bit more, block them off completely!”
The driver was a man in his early thirties with a buzz cut and a gloomy face. He was the leader of this group of four, named Qiu Long.
A smile hung on his face. He picked up the walkie-talkie, his voice lazy. “Slow down, slow down. We’re in Yubei City now. Don’t stir up too many zombies and cause a chain reaction.”
“Boss, why slow down!?” the yellow-haired man asked, confused.
“You don’t know shit.” Qiu Long’s eyes were cold as he watched the fleeing prey ahead. He said faintly, “Isn’t it a good thing that someone is clearing the way for us? They can’t escape anyway. The process of hunting the prey is the most exciting part.”
“Hehehe, got it, got it.”
On the lead truck, a fat man was driving. Next to him sat a purple-haired woman dressed in punk style with a lip ring. Hearing the words on the walkie-talkie, the bewitching green light of her metahuman ability in her eyes slowly dimmed.
She glanced at the fat man. “Did you hear that? He said to drive slower.”
“Alrighty.” The fat man pursed his lips. On the surface, he looked pleased, but a flash of anger crossed his eyes.
If Lin Xian were here, he would definitely recognize this fat man. He was Zhou Lei, the convoy leader who had shot and killed Qian Yu at the Beiwān outpost that night and then fled with the vehicles. He appeared simple and honest, but his eyes glinted with ruthlessness.
That night, he had seized the vehicles and fled. Because a large number of monsters and the zombie tide were attracted to the outpost, he was lucky enough to lead his team to escape.
After seizing half of the Black Jiao convoy’s supply vehicles, and with his original subordinates, his team had grown considerably on the run. He had even recruited a subordinate with a strange limb ability. His group was already considered medium-sized. But then, they were ambushed and plundered by the Black Crow Four. His convoy was directly absorbed. To save his own life, he could only kneel and become their dog, the driver of Car No. 1.
And the purple-haired woman sitting next to him was Luoluo, ranked third in the Black Crow Four. Zhou Lei had witnessed this woman’s ability. She was like a demoness, able to incite a portion of the zombies into a frenzy, thereby triggering a chain reaction to attack a target. It was utterly insane.
With the purple-haired woman’s ability under control, the number of zombies madly rushing towards the convoy ahead decreased slightly. However, because of the large-scale commotion already caused in the streets, the zombies’ frenzy had escaped her control. The number of zombies chasing both convoys was increasing.
*Rat-a-tat-tat!!*
The battle grew more intense. The heavy truck rolled over heads!
Qiu Long saw a metahuman from the front vehicle climb onto the roof, then leap down with extreme speed and rush towards their convoy. He immediately gave a disdainful smile.
“So it’s a beast-form. Hasn’t even evolved. What a waste of time.”
He picked up the walkie-talkie. “Guo the Second, he’s all yours.”
“Roger!”
As soon as the words fell, the passenger door of another truck opened. A young man with long hair and a face that looked like he was high on something suddenly jumped out of the vehicle. Just as others thought he would fall into the zombie horde, a pair of gray-black bird wings suddenly grew from his back. With a whoosh, they spread, and he flew into the air above the street at an extremely fast speed, then charged straight towards the middle-aged metahuman with red scales.
“Grandpa’s here to teach you a lesson!” he shrieked, his speed incredibly fast as he rode the fierce wind. The middle-aged metahuman, who was in the middle of a rapid charge, saw someone rushing towards him. Enraged, he stomped his foot and raised his beastly claws to tear at the birdman!
*Whoosh!*
The immense force tore through the air. Unexpectedly, Guo the Second, with his gray bird wings, didn’t dodge at all. He met the full-force claw with a punch.
*Clang!*
A spark flashed. The middle-aged man was shocked, feeling as if his beast claw had struck a piece of metal. Looking closely, he saw that the right hand of the person before him had a metallic luster and mechanical joints.
“A mechanical prosthesis?!”
“Pathetic!” The birdman sneered, immediately countering with a thrust, grabbing the middle-aged man’s neck. Then, with a flap of his wings, he carried him into the sky, wrapped in a gale.
“Ahhh!!!”
The middle-aged man struggled violently, scales gradually covering his entire body as he began to transform. One hand grabbed the birdman’s mechanical limb, while the other reached for his abdomen.
Guo the Second obviously wouldn’t give him such a chance. Halfway up, he simply loosened his grip and dropped him in mid-air.
*Thud!*
Before he even hit the ground, his body was struck head-on by a truck charging from behind and sent flying.
“Whoa!!!!”
This bloody scene drew wild cheers from the purple-haired woman and the other subordinates. The middle-aged metahuman didn’t even get a chance to fight back before the massive impact sent him crashing into a shop on the side of the street, his fate unknown.
Guo the Second, flying in the air, watched this scene with a savage grin. “He counts as a beast-form. I wonder if he can evolve my ability. Whatever, I’ll just try a few more. I refuse to believe I can’t find a suitable one…”
“Hmm?”
Just as he was about to dive down, he suddenly noticed something and looked into the distance.
On a large railway track several streets away, a fully armed train was speeding along, followed by dozens of vehicles.
Guo the Second’s gaze immediately turned cold. He took out a walkie-talkie.
“Boss, guess what? It seems we’ve run into some acquaintances. It’s that train that was parked at Qu Pass the other day.”
In the off-road vehicle, hearing the words from the walkie-talkie, Qiu Long’s expression changed.
“Yo, what a coincidence…”
“Boss!” The yellow-haired man sat back in the car, looking displeased. “Last time, because of that guy named Jiang Yun, so many fat fish got away. We have to get revenge for that!”
“Nonsense. What kind of person do you take me for?”
Qiu Long sneered and picked up the walkie-talkie. “Luoluo, have the zombies break up that convoy. Everyone, turn at the next corner…”
“Bring the cars over!”
