Chapter Index

The snowstorm had stopped. In the dead of night, the Infinity was parked on the snowy plains, the tracks ahead already buried deep in white snow.

Chen Sixuan, Kiki, and Shasha all felt like they had a wonderful, comfortable sleep. After they woke up, Lin Xian also went to sleep for a while, waiting for the progress on the water purifier blueprint.

“Do you guys feel it? That panicky feeling is gone.”

After getting up, Chen Sixuan went to Car 3 for a look. Seeing that Zhao Yan and the other two were also fast asleep, she had Shasha take over for her brother Dalou to watch the rear cars.

Kiki stretched in front of her computer. “You know, now that you mention it, I think you’re right.”

Chen Sixuan opened the blackout panel and looked out at the endless dark, snowy plains. She then said, “Based on the distance we’ve traveled, it should get light around 4 PM today. Kiki, see if you can pick up any news from the direction of Yubei City.”

Kiki nodded, picked up the radio, and began searching for information.

“Federal Phoenix Society Daily Survival Radio. According to the Star Abyss Monitoring Department’s statistical report, the currently safer areas are in the Asia-Pacific region, Tianhai Province, from Jiazhou City’s Hengshan Pass east to the Wei River, Longjiang, Jinhai, and Xingcheng areas, which are far points for Star Abyss No. 3 and No. 4. From Fengcheng west to the Gobi, Tagan Desert, and Palma Grassland, southeast to the Jin River, Yunan Ridge, and Tianji are far points for Star Abyss No. 5 and No. 7. Blue Oceania… North America… All surviving migrating personnel can choose the nearest direction. All secondary cities that have not entered the polar night region have Phoenix Society Rescue Association stations.”

“Zzzzt… Emergency survival resource acquisition tip number 53…”

“Zzzzt… The importance of water is self-evident. Today, we have invited microbiology expert Professor Qi to explain the harm caused by the current black rain to surface freshwater…”

“Zzzzt… To further strengthen humanity’s resistance against anomalies, the Federal Phoenix Society is recruiting metahumans from all walks of life to join the ‘Nightwalker’ organization.”

“Zzzzt… Federal Radio YB region report. A city-wide zombie tide has appeared in Yubei City. Multiple anomaly sightings were reported tonight. Yubei No. 1 Airport is currently resisting with all its might…”

    “…”

“Tsk, tsk…” Kiki continuously adjusted the broadcast frequency, frowning. “The situation in Yubei City is a bit troublesome. If the climbing channel stops, anyone who went in probably won’t be able to get out.”

Chen Sixuan responded, “It stopping isn’t the biggest problem for us. As long as the sky corridor hasn’t fallen and the ascent channel isn’t blocked, we can get up there. The problem now is that we don’t know what the actual situation is like after entering the city.”

“We’ll take it one step at a time.”

Kiki then operated a drone to take off and scout the surrounding situation again.

It was now around 10 AM. Lin Xian woke up after sleeping for a few hours, feeling much more refreshed.

He didn’t know if it was because of the isomeric cube, but this sleep felt as fulfilling as sleeping for 12 hours. Plus, after his strength and defense attributes were upgraded, his physical fitness had also greatly improved. He felt completely renewed.

    “You’re awake?”

Chen Sixuan was currently cooking hot soup. With the power supplement from the nuclear locomotive, all kinds of equipment on the train could be used freely. The electric stove and oven that Shasha had collected in Yuchi could now be used. If it weren’t for the lack of fresh vegetables, Lin Xian had no doubt that Chen Sixuan would be preparing to stir-fry a dish.

“How is it?” Lin Xian asked.

“Dr. Zhao and Dr. Xu are still sleeping, but Director Ding woke up very early. She’s been working in Car 3, I don’t know what she’s busy with.”

“I’ll go take a look, and also set up the armor for the new cars. We’ll set off when it gets light,” Lin Xian said.

He then checked the Research Center. It showed that there were only about 20 minutes left for the blueprint upgrade. Delighted, he didn’t waste any time and headed directly to the rear cars.

In Car 2, Kiki brought up the blueprint for the Cole-class cars and said to Lin Xian, “See, I told you there was a ready-made one. This set of cars has a complete air circulation system. We can connect all the cars based on this design. Once you get the water purification equipment set up, you can achieve the water-oxygen cycle you want.”

Lin Xian saw it and was very happy. “I’ll install the water purifier after I finish the armor at the back.”

“By the way, Car 7 is now connected to the nuclear locomotive. Do you want to set up other doors to make it easier for us to get on and off?” On Kiki’s computer, a blue line drawing of the entire train was displayed. She pointed to the front and back directions and said, “Both the front and rear cockpits have doors, so getting in and out is fine. If we need to move cargo, it might be a bit troublesome.”

“I know.” Lin Xian nodded. “I’m planning to open a side door on Car 7. I’m also considering whether to open a sunroof on Car 6 and Car 1, maybe make a lift or something…”

“A lift?” Kiki had a strange look on her face. “Are you planning to eject yourself?!”

    “No…”

Lin Xian explained helplessly, “I’m planning to mount some weapon systems on the roof, like turrets or guns, but it’s best if they’re retractable. Otherwise, they’ll be easily destroyed if we run into trouble.”

    “Wow!”

Kiki’s eyes lit up. “Is it like the gunner’s bay on an AC-130 gunship? So exciting! Why don’t you put one on Car 2 as well? I’ll be the gunner, I guarantee I’ll kill them all, leaving no one behind.”

    “Gunner’s bay?”

Tap, tap, tap. Kiki found a picture on her computer and showed it to Lin Xian. “Here, like this. But the cabin needs to be made of high-protection bulletproof material, otherwise it’s too stupid…”

Lin Xian took one look and was dumbfounded. “Wait, isn’t this an electromagnetic railgun? I was talking about…”

“Aiya~” Kiki waved her hand, interrupting him. “You have to have a dream. Of course I know what you’re talking about. Isn’t it just a gun turret? Our train needs to be upgraded step by step. We’ll definitely be able to use these advanced weapons in the future, don’t worry.”

“Alright, I’ll design a mech turret just for you then.” Lin Xian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Why did it feel like this girl was even more obsessed with advanced equipment than he, the mechanical metahuman, was?

Then again, he now had a Research Center. His ideals should also be a bit loftier. Maybe in the future, the Infinity’s onboard weapons wouldn’t even use bullets. Since he had the nuclear-powered car, it would save him a lot of trouble.

Arriving at Car 3, Ding Junyi was busy working on her laptop at a workbench. The cultivation chamber for the Hell Black Chrysanthemum was placed next to her. Seeing Lin Xian come in, she said, “Are we leaving?”

Lin Xian saw it and spoke, “Are you researching this thing?”

Ding Junyi replied with a calm expression, “I’m just continuing my previous research. This car has basically all the necessary equipment. If you need this data or forbid me from using your property, you can inform me. Before you explicitly agree to let me on the train, my status is still your rescued captive.”

“Rescued captive?” Lin Xian chuckled. “If you were really rescued captives, I would have locked you in an iron cage last night.”

Ding Junyi turned around, her gaze calmly looking at him. “Thank you for your preferential treatment.”

“Don’t be in a hurry to thank me.” Lin Xian said in a deep voice, “The situation in Yubei City is worse than imagined. I may not have the energy to help you when we get there.”
