Chapter Index

    Vroom~

In the direction of the city, an orange-yellow car light cut through the darkness. Lin Xian sat in the passenger seat, constantly observing the automatic rifle in his hand.

He had already scanned the blueprints of everything he had obtained. For him, manufacturing an automatic rifle was less difficult than manufacturing a crane. The only problem was the bullets.

His fear of insufficient firepower was acting up again.

If he could solve the problem of gunpowder and explosive materials, he could mass-produce bullets and shells, and even manufacture vehicle-mounted turrets and machine gun platforms. He could attack monsters while on the move, and wouldn’t have to resort to close combat on the roof.

Dalou looked at Lin Xian’s strange expression and said in a low voice, “Brother Xian, I can cut any monster.”

Lin Xian glanced at him in surprise and smiled. “Monsters that can be cut are fine. If we can’t beat them, we can run. I’m more worried about ghosts.”

“Ghosts?” Dalou pointed to the machine gun and the Steel-Cleaving Greatsword in the back seat. “Can’t we cut them?”

“I don’t know, but someone has seen them. They are said to have supernatural abilities and cannot be killed…”

    Dalou: “…”

Lin Xian’s expression turned slightly grim as he looked at the city silhouette shrouded in the darkness ahead. “Some news is true, some is false. There are all sorts of strange things in this darkness. It’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s always right to be more careful.”

    Dalou nodded without speaking.

Soon, the off-road vehicle drove onto the main city road and arrived at a street adjacent to the pedestrian street.

The engine sound and headlights attracted many frantic zombies. In order not to let the zombie horde surround the off-road vehicle, the two immediately got out of the car.

“Let’s go upstairs first. Listen to my instructions later.” Lin Xian threw a walkie-talkie to Dalou, and the two split up. Dalou picked up his machine gun and ran towards the observation deck on the second floor of the shopping mall.

Lin Xian, on the other hand, quickly ran towards the square along a back alley.

In the darkness, Lin Xian’s eyes became incredibly deep, as if he could clearly detect the various zombies lurking ahead. With a wind gun in his left hand and an electro-blade in his right, he ran quickly like a shadow in the night.

    Eee-ah~

Before a few zombies could turn around, a cold light flashed, and their heads fell to the ground.

    Woof~ Woof~

The frantic barking of zombie dogs echoed in the alley, chasing after Lin Xian. He turned around and fired a few wind guns, quickly blowing up a few dog heads. Then he took out a small remote control and pressed it.

“Happy birthday to you… Happy birthday to you…”

A loud and strange melody suddenly rang out in the center of the dark square, instantly echoing through several blocks and breaking the silence of the dark Yuchi City.

Clang! Then, several large lights turned on, illuminating the circular square.

Lin Xian really couldn’t find any suitable material. The music from the speaker had a heavy mechanical feel, which was somewhat chilling.

He ran out of the small alley and quickly climbed onto a hidden high platform, sneaking into the shadows. He and Dalou observed the situation in the square from across half a block.

“Happy birthday to you… Happy birthday to you…”

    Click~

“Dalou, is there any movement?” Lin Xian took out the walkie-talkie to test it.

“No.” Dalou’s voice came from the other end of the walkie-talkie.

His heart settled. He looked at the time. It was 2:45 PM, an hour and a half before dawn. If there was no harvest, they would set off immediately after dawn.

Lin Xian sheathed his electro-blade, took out his automatic rifle, and began to secretly be on guard.

Time passed minute by minute. The loud music in the square soon attracted countless zombies from several streets, swarming over. These zombies were extremely sensitive to sound. When they rushed into the square, they had no target. They waved their claws and surrounded the large speaker, their rotten eyes beginning to search for prey everywhere.

    2:50 PM…

    More zombies swarmed in.

By 3:05 PM, the entire circular square was filled with various zombies, zombie dogs, and ghouls controlled by black insects. If there were any hidden survivors in the city, they would definitely be frightened by this huge commotion.

    “Dalou.”

“No, Brother Xian. I don’t know if killing those black insect monsters will…”

“Probably not.” Lin Xian said in a low voice.

Although those black insects were a type of anomaly, he had already dealt with many of them in North Bay and hadn’t found any of those red beads, not even any black gas. He figured they weren’t the target they were looking for.

    “Let’s wait a little longer.”

    3:15 PM…

The music in the square continued to play.

Lin Xian hid in the shadows, concentrating on the movement in the square. At this moment, for some unknown reason, whether the battery was dead or something else, the sound from the speaker suddenly changed.

    “Happy… birthday… to… you… Happy… birth… day… to… you…”

The little girl’s voice began to become slow, deep, and strange, as if the pitch had been dragged out, which was somewhat chilling.

“Dalou, be careful. I feel like something is wrong.”

Lin Xian felt that something was not right and immediately reminded Dalou.

But after waiting for a while, there was no sound from the walkie-talkie.

Lin Xian frowned and pressed the call button again.

    “Dalou…”

Only then did he realize that the signal light of the walkie-talkie was flashing a faint red light, and it was not connected at all.

That’s not right. It was fine just now. Did something happen to Dalou?

Lin Xian reacted immediately, his whole body jolting.

He immediately decided to give up the stakeout and head towards Dalou’s direction.

But just as he stood up from the shadows, he suddenly felt as if he was being watched by something. He immediately looked up.

    There was nothing.

    Click~

Lin Xian was not at ease. He took out the flashlight he carried with him and shone it into the alley above. There was indeed nothing.

    Was it an illusion?

Lin Xian’s eyes flickered. A feeling of his heart pounding rose in his chest. Cold sweat immediately beaded on his forehead. This feeling was very similar to the creepy feeling he had when he was being watched by the giant white monster in the furniture city in Jiang City.

His heart stirred. He immediately acted without hesitation, turning around and firing directly into the air, accompanied by several wind guns!

    Rat-a-tat-tat! Bang, bang!

The gunfire flashed, illuminating the dark alley. In Lin Xian’s line of sight, three extremely terrifying faces suddenly appeared.

They were three monsters with skulls for heads, clinging to the wall. There was clearly nothing there when he shone the flashlight just now, but as soon as he opened fire, this terrifying monster suddenly appeared above his head.

This monster looked like three melted zombies combined, with spider-like legs and a sinister, strange smile. It was unknown how long it had been watching Lin Xian.

The monster didn’t seem to expect Lin Xian to suddenly discover it and open fire directly. The bullets instantly hit its body, and several bloody holes immediately burst open. Black blood splattered out, and when it landed on the ground, it made a sizzling, corrosive sound.

    “I can hit it?!”

When Lin Xian didn’t find it with the flashlight just now, he thought this thing didn’t have a physical body. Who would have thought that after the firelight burst out, the bullets directly pierced its skin.

    “Ah!!!!”

The three-headed monster roared at the same time, the sound deafening. It roared in anger, and one of its heads suddenly opened its mouth towards Lin Xian, revealing a bloody maw full of terrifying fangs. It spat out a stream of black blood at Lin Xian.

    “Crap!”

Sensing the intense danger from the black blood, Lin Xian had no time to react. He directly used a move: Flash Step!

But it wasn’t towards the three-headed monster, but a rapid maneuver to the side to dodge.

    Hiss!

The black blood splattered on the high platform where Lin Xian had just been standing, instantly erupting with a scorching, corrosive aura. White smoke billowed, and a foul stench filled the air.
