Chapter Index

The train sped on, and the sounds of the zombie horde faded away. In the darkness, a few flashlight beams danced by the side of the tracks. Shasha, her face etched with anxiety, held a flashlight and searched everywhere.

On the other side, Lin Xian and Dalou were frantically hacking at the flesh of the giant monster with their blades, searching for that red bead.

Just then, a cry of surprise came from Shasha’s direction.

    “Found it!!”

Hearing this, both of them stopped what they were doing and ran towards her.

Shasha was standing at the edge of a drainage ditch. The giant white monster’s head had rolled here. Its face was terrifying, and red blood mixed with a black fluid, scaring Shasha so much that she didn’t dare to get too close.

Seeing Lin Xian approach, the little girl pointed her flashlight at the monster’s severed neck from a distance.

    “Look.”

A wisp of black smoke was continuously seeping out from the monster’s neck and drilling into the ground. At the same time, on the ground, a thumb-sized red bead had appeared.

But strangely, this bead was much larger than the one Lin Xian had traded for!

Seeing this, Lin Xian’s brow furrowed. He felt a sense of familiarity and immediately called out to Shasha, “Don’t move. I’ll do it.”

He slowly approached. Sure enough, as he got closer to the black gas, a rustling sound began to fill his ears. As he got closer, the rustling sound turned into a tsunami-like cry, the sound gradually becoming deafening!

Lin Xian’s brow furrowed tightly. He gritted his teeth and moved closer. The crying sound was almost making his ears ring.

Just as the sound was about to pierce his eardrums, he grabbed the red bead. But in that instant, the crying sound stopped abruptly!

    “So that’s how it is!”

Lin Xian let out a long breath, his eyes sharp.

It seemed that when he killed the giant red bug before, this sound had come from here. At that time, he had no idea such a thing existed. Thinking back now, there must have been an Anomaly Blood Crystal then too.

Lin Xian felt a little strange in his heart.

“This thing actually comes in different sizes…”

Without much thought, he immediately took this large Anomaly Blood Crystal and got on the train, placing it at KIKI’s mouth and nose again.

This time, before the red crystal even touched her, it quickly shattered. A thick red mist burst out and rushed into KIKI’s nose and eyes.

    “Wow, this…”

Shasha watched in amazement. In less than a moment, KIKI’s face clearly regained some color, and her breathing became steady.

Lin Xian lifted KIKI’s eyelids and saw that the black ink in her eyes was rapidly receding.

Although he didn’t know what had happened, it seemed to be working. Seeing this, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

“How could there be so many zombies and that monster?”

Chen Sixuan frowned. “Didn’t we shake that thing off in Jiang City…”

    “I’m not sure for now.”

Lin Xian looked up at the air conditioner. “Looks like we need to add a layer of protection on top.”

Just now, he and Dalou had gotten off the train to check the battle situation. They found that although car 5 was a mess and the roof had some dents, the armor on both sides of the Infinity was intact. The tsunami-like zombie horde couldn’t even bite through this armored war machine. Lin Xian thought, if the outside of the train had some kind of reaction device, with full protection on the roof and wheel wings, and a sharp ice-breaking shield added to the front, then no matter how fierce the zombie horde was, they could charge out with ease.

“Teacher Chen, what time will it be light tomorrow?” Lin Xian asked.

“I estimate it should be between 2:40 PM and 3:10 PM.”

“Okay.” Lin Xian looked at the sleeping KIKI. “There’s still plenty of time. We’ll go to Yuchi Station now and stop. We’ll refit the train first, upgrade the protection, and then go into Yuchi City to search for some supplies.”

“Supplies are not the main thing.” Lin Xian took out a map. “Yuchi City is not big. This time, our main target is here…”

“The electronics market and the city’s power transformer station.”

“Transformer station?” Shasha looked surprised. “What are we going there for?”

“To get some transformers and capacitors. If there’s a suitable one, I’ll drive another car back.”

Lin Xian said, “We got over a thousand liters of gasoline from the outpost. We’ll bring two barrels in the car. If there’s a suitable car, we’ll split up. We’ll load the car and the goods onto the flatbed trailer and come back, saving time.”

After completing the upgrade and refitting, he wanted to do a big collection. As long as it was electrical or mechanical, he would bring back as much as he could. One reason was to collect materials, and the other was that these more scattered things were more flexible for him to devour, so it wouldn’t take hours at a time.

If they encountered problems along the way, they could stop at any time and treat it as a fine-grained upgrade.

However, after experiencing the benefits of that one locomotive, Lin Xian had also become bolder. If he encountered another one in the future, as long as the weight was bearable, he would tow it along and devour it while driving along the tracks. The upgrade would be lightning fast!

As for the transformers and capacitors, it wasn’t just because of the GK03 Electro-Blade’s high-energy capacitor and arc device, but also because he had gotten some inspiration from this design and wanted to use it to create an external electric discharge defense system for the train.

    “Teacher Chen, let’s drive.”

Chen Sixuan nodded. She instructed Shasha, “Shasha, you treat their injuries.”

    “Leave it to me!”

Shasha was quick and nimble. She took Lin Xian’s first-aid kit and came over to treat the wound on his chest.

    “Brother Lin, does it hurt?”

“It’s fine.” Lin Xian gritted his teeth and said with a calm face.

“Oh.” Then Shasha poured the iodophor on the wound on Lin Xian’s chest.

    Hiss!!!!

    …Clang… clang

The Infinity let out a muffled, metallic whine as its iron wheels began to roll again!

The night was not yet over. Lin Xian opened the tailboard of car 5. Although it was night, the scene outside was now covered in a vast expanse of white snow.

The extreme low temperature and the snow-covered mountains and fields added a sense of desolation to the post-apocalyptic world.

Looking at the flatbed trailers behind, both military jeeps were battle-damaged. Only one off-road vehicle and the armored vehicle from the Black Flood Dragon team remained.

“Forget it. Devouring the flatbed trailers probably won’t be of much use. They’re just a pile of iron. It’s better to use them to carry more things, as an open-air transport platform. It’s also convenient for me to devour while on the move…”

Thinking of this, Lin Xian looked at the several flatbed trailers and suddenly found them much more pleasing to the eye.

After his Mechanical Heart was upgraded to level 2 and he obtained the decomposition space, the scope of his mechanical manufacturing had been greatly enhanced.

However, he currently felt that there were still two shortcomings.

First, he could only store the materials he obtained after devouring, such as various types of steel and plastic.

The types were numerous and complex, and there was no specific goal.

For example, he had now scanned the blueprint for the 1130 close-in weapon system. Although the required materials were huge and all were weapon-grade steel, it wasn’t impossible to get. But the most critical problem was the ammunition.

He wasn’t short of copper, tungsten, or steel, but the basic materials for high-energy explosives like smokeless powder for bullets or TNT, HNIW, and all-nitrogen anion salt for shells were nowhere to be found.

Having a gun but no bullets was really a bit awkward.

The second problem was the blueprint library. He lacked blueprints for powerful mechanical equipment.

Besides himself, he also wanted to arm the Infinity and his teammates. The Steel-Cleaving Greatsword he made for Dalou was really out of necessity. With Dalou’s physique, if nothing else, he should at least be carrying a Vulcan Gatling gun to match his aura.

After gaining teammates, Lin Xian began to adjust his focus from fighting alone.

As the train traveled at night, the surroundings became quiet, and Lin Xian’s heart also relaxed a little. He and Dalou leaned against the edge of the tailboard of car 5. Shasha was taking care of KIKI, while Teacher Chen was checking the road conditions in the driver’s cabin.

    “Brother Xian.”

Dalou handed the Steel-Cleaving Greatsword to Lin Xian, seemingly intending to return it.

Lin Xian smiled. “With this size, who do you think I made it for?”

Dalou was stunned for a moment, his expression changed, and he took it back with some eagerness. “Thank you, Brother Xian.”

He found this greatsword very easy to use. The material was hard, and it could be used as a shield at critical moments. It was indeed good for daily self-defense.
