Chapter Index

“Staying for ten days?” Wan Chen’s brows furrowed slightly upon hearing this, his expression changing. He couldn’t help but ask, “What a coincidence, they want to adjust the navigation channels at this particular time?”

“They said it’s because of interference from Nethermist clouds, so they have to wait for them to drift away naturally,” Xia Jie said, sounding a bit helpless. “I’ve already communicated with them and read the inspection reports. At least, on the surface, that’s what it is.”

Wan Chen shook his head, and said in a deep voice, “Reports can be faked. If they want to trap us here, or ambush us, they can.”

Everyone remained silent, and Su Chen also had this suspicion.

Qing Cang carries the Spirituality of a Morning Star-tier Professional, and there are many people coveting it, so they must be vigilant.

“This Equilibrium Hub…” Lan Hao’s voice was cold. “It was built by the Star Management Group, just a small power controlling five life planets. Do they dare to ambush us?”

This was not Lan Hao being arrogant. To seize something, one not only needs courage but also the strength to protect the treasure.

Wan Chen mused, “The Star Management Group made its fortune by exploring the Nethermist, discovering many ancient battlefield ruins within it. There are two dual-tier nine Professionals overseeing it.”

“But without the birth of a Morning Star-tier, they can only stop here.”

As for motives, the Star Management Group truly has them. Without the birth of a Morning Star-tier, and without a Sacred Position as their foundation, even dual-tier nine Professionals are inferior to those in sects and royal courts, inherently weaker.

Su Chen listened from the side, offering no opinions.

He had limited knowledge of the Equilibrium Hub, only knowing it was a nearby transit hub, primarily serving as an outpost for exploring the Nethermist.

Within the Nethermist, there were not only dangers but also opportunities. Some special materials would only appear in the Nethermist.

There were also ancient battlefield ruins, barren planets clinging to life, many lost professions, and even the Power of the Strange Gods—all of which were wealth.

However, because it was almost impossible to determine direction and coordinates within the Nethermist, one could only search aimlessly, and the cost was considerable.

After a moment of thought, Xia Jie suggested, “How about we only resupply here and then take a detour?”

“We can’t detour,” Qing Cang shook his head, saying flatly, “This is already the closest transit hub. If we detour, it will take at least an extra half a year.”

Detouring in outer space was not a good option.

He continued, “Spending an extra half a year to detour doesn’t make it safer. If there really are ambushes in the dark, they will probably be even more prepared.”

The news from Ni Chuan about the Great Venerable Scarlet Flame and Thunder had only been out for a little over a month.

Other people who wanted to intercept them wouldn’t be able to rush here in a short time.

If they waited another half a year, it was estimated that people from other sects would be in position, and that would truly be a chaotic battle.

“Then…” Xia Jie hesitated, awaiting Qing Cang’s final decision.

“The Star Management Group probably wouldn’t dare to ambush us…” Qing Cang pondered, his gaze falling on the small holographic projection in front of him, and he said in a deep voice, “Let’s rest here. Since they say it will take ten days, we’ll give them ten days.”

With Qing Cang’s decision, the others naturally said nothing more, nodding in agreement.

Only Wan Chen hesitated slightly, asking, “Master Qing, the sect’s reinforcements should be on their way, right?”

Lan Hao and Lin Yue also looked on with concern.

Something as important as Morning Star-tier Spirituality of course meant that the high-ranking members of the sect would not wait idly but would send reinforcements to meet them halfway.

As long as they linked up with the sect’s reinforcements, they would be much safer.

“On their way,” Qing Cang said ambiguously, and Wan Chen didn’t press further.

The Equilibrium Hub was already in sight, and they were about to dock.

By the window, Su Chen watched the increasingly massive Equilibrium Hub, marveling at how easily deceived one could be by the scale in interstellar space.

From a distance, the Equilibrium Hub looked like a small figurine, but up close, it was probably larger than five Ying Feng combined.

The number of spaceships coming and going was also considerable; Su Chen even saw battleships.

“How is it? Seeing this interstellar transit hub for the first time, does it feel quite new and exciting?”

Lin Yue suddenly leaned in, smiling, “I’m telling you, our sect is much more magnificent than this.”

Why was this woman making conversation out of nothing? Su Chen glanced at her and nodded perfunctorily.

Lan Hao also walked over, “Actually, this Equilibrium Hub only looks magnificent. It has been built for many years and suffered from neglect in its management and repair. The internal situation is not as good as your Ying Feng.”

Lin Yue snorted. With Lan Hao’s interference, it made it seem like she was mocking Su Chen for being unworldly.

She didn’t bother to respond but simply said to Su Chen, “However, there are things born in the Nethermist above that are rare even in the sect. You can buy them to play with.”

Lan Hao shook his head, “The current situation is unclear. After entering the hub, it’s best not to move around casually.”

Lin Yue frowned. This Lan Hao, was he deliberately contradicting her? Who said she had to go out?

The two of them, one on each side, kept talking, which felt a bit strange.

Wan Chen leaned against the wall, his gaze suspicious. Lan Hao’s change was too great?

Because of his previous instigation, after being outmaneuvered by Su Chen, Lan Hao had been treating Su Chen as invisible for some time.

Today, for some reason, his personality had changed, and when he spoke, he was protective in every way.

Lin Yue’s behavior was also not as he had imagined. He had thought this crazy woman, who only knew how to fight, would be very displeased with Su Chen.

At the very least, she would challenge Su Chen at his door, and he would be tormented for a while.

And she had been using Su Chen’s training projections to vent her anger not long ago, so why was she now competing with Lan Hao for Su Chen’s attention?

He vaguely felt something was wrong. Lan Hao and Lin Yue seemed to know something he didn’t.

Qing Cang also found it odd, frequently glancing over with a scrutinizing look.

After arguing with Lan Hao for a few sentences, Lin Yue also sensed that the atmosphere was wrong and shut her mouth.

Su Chen’s ears finally found peace, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Before long, a loud thud echoed from the spacecraft, which had already connected to the port’s guidance track. A voice then chimed in through the communication channel: “Please note, you have docked at an advanced berth at the Equilibrium Hub. Please cease all spacecraft operations, shut down combat systems, extinguish propulsion engines, and leave everything else to us.”

They had used the high-speed channel, so there was no need to queue or undergo routine inspections.

With a hum, the spaceship slotted into the berth, and several robotic arms extended from the berth, latching onto the hull.

The hatch opened, and the gangway extended. Su Chen and the others followed Qing Cang down.

Although the surroundings were separated from the external berth by huge metal plates, forming a private space, the sound of clanging metal friction still echoed in their ears, transmitted through the vibrating metal floor.

A group of people was already waiting below. At the head was an elegant old man in a well-fitted burgundy suit, with a gentle smile on his face. He quickly walked a few steps to meet Qing Cang.

“Your Excellency Qing Cang, you are finally back.” The man’s gentle smile turned enthusiastic, and he appropriately moved to Qing Cang’s side, walking with him.

His gaze, however, swept over Su Chen, with a hint of scrutiny.

“This is the person in charge of the Equilibrium Hub, I think his name is Yuan Fusheng,” Lan Hao mumbled.

Yuan Fusheng walked beside Qing Cang, explaining helplessly, “I’m truly sorry, we’ve done our best to coordinate, but that Nethermist is right in the middle of the navigation channel. Sending people to clear it would take about the same amount of time as just waiting.”

Qing Cang’s expression was indifferent: “There’s nothing we can do about it. We’ll just wait.”

“Thank you for your understanding. The accommodation has been arranged. Please follow me.” Yuan Fusheng’s attitude was very respectful as he led the group out of the port and onto a waiting luxurious hovercar.

The hovercar was ten meters long, with a long sofa inside, ample space for people to stand and move around, and several graceful and slender attendants.

Xia Jie and the others remained on the spaceship, with only a few guards accompanying them, partly because their spaceship needed resupply—various materials and compressed energy blocks were nearly depleted.

Another reason was to prevent anyone from snooping on the spaceship’s data.

“The difference between this and Ying Feng isn’t that great…”

In the hovercar, Su Chen looked out the window and down. The buildings near the docking port were sparse, and some surfaces were even rusted.

“When Master Qing first arrived at Ying Feng, he marveled and praised how your cities are almost indistinguishable from some interstellar cities,” Lan Hao said, seemingly genuinely trying to befriend Su Chen.

This guy… he was responding to everything. Su Chen actually felt a little uncomfortable with Lan Hao’s enthusiasm.

“What exactly are these ‘battlefield ruins’ from?” Su Chen asked.

“Either from the Demonic Gods, or from the infighting between factions,” Lin Yue explained, then added, “But the ruins on Scarlet Thunder Star are a bit different; there are an excessive number of Sacred Word Stones.”

The few seemed unable to give a clear explanation, so Su Chen didn’t ask further.

Listening to their casual discussion, Su Chen realized that the shallow layers of the Nethermist had been mostly explored. Further penetration incurred disproportionate costs compared to gains, so the Star Management Group now only acted as guides and hubs.

The location of Scarlet Thunder Star no longer belonged to the shallow layer.

As they approached the central area, the surrounding buildings finally began to have the atmosphere of an interstellar city. The towering skyscrapers, like giant beasts wrapped in shimmering alloy, and the virtual dancers’ seductive moves were excessively bold.

Soon, Yuan Fusheng arranged for them to stay in the best hotel in the Equilibrium Hub, with each person getting a luxurious room on the top floor.

“If you need anything, just inform the front desk,” Yuan Fusheng said after making the arrangements, then took his people and boarded the elevator.

Not until he was downstairs and out of the lobby did he look back up, his expression gradually tightening.

He led his subordinates, boarded their hovercar, and drifted into the distance.

In the car, a subordinate sitting next to him suddenly began to convulse, and wisps of black and red energy flowed out from his body.

But Yuan Fusheng was not at all surprised, just watched quietly.

Soon, the overflowing energy merged into a phantom figure that enveloped the surface of his subordinate’s body. The facial features were blurred and indistinct.

“Master,” Yuan Fusheng rose and bowed respectfully.

“Have they arrived?” The black and red phantom figure made a hoarse, tearing sound.

“Yes, Qing Cang and his group just arrived, and the newly born Star Seed is among them,” Yuan Fusheng reported.

“How are they?” the black and red phantom asked.

Yuan Fusheng pondered, “Qing Cang doesn’t seem suspicious and is willing to wait ten days. As for the newly born Star Seed, he doesn’t seem particularly extraordinary.”

“Spirituality, Spirituality, oh Spirituality…” The black and red phantom suddenly sighed, “How can one ever gain the favor of Spirituality?”

“An aboriginal from a barren planet can succeed, but why can’t I be noticed?”

“Spirituality is cunning and difficult to fathom.” Yuan Fusheng tentatively asked, “Right now, there’s only Qing Cang. What if we try?”

“If we seize the Spirituality and kill the Star Seed, we can hide in the Nethermist. Rumor has it that the Bronze Sect’s flames are already precarious. Once the flames die out, we can make a comeback.”

“Rumors…” the black and red phantom chuckled. “You must control your greed. We only need to detain him here for ten days and take what is rightfully ours.”

“The news from the Royal Court is too flawed. I don’t believe Qing Cang alone could force Ni Chuan to stay his hand.”

“Treat them well,” the black and red phantom said, then dissipated.

“Yes,” Yuan Fusheng nodded. When he looked up, the subordinate sitting next to him was already lifeless.

In the room, Su Chen had only taken a quick look, seeing that all facilities were complete, including areas for Spirit Pressure Rings. Then, Qing Cang called him.

“You want me to go to the Prophet Society and buy a current affairs review?” Su Chen looked at Qing Cang in surprise.

Given the current situation, shouldn’t they try to stay indoors to ensure safety?

“I’m trying to gauge the situation and see how many parties are secretly watching,” Qing Cang said bluntly.

Su Chen then understood that he was being used as bait for fishing. He didn’t resist.

Now there was only one goal: to safely reach the Bronze Sect.

The more information Qing Cang had, the better he could arrange things, and in a way, they would be safer.

Moreover, if the professional requirements on him could be completed sooner, that would be good too.

“You’re probably not very familiar with this place, so let Lan Hao…accompany you. I see he’s become quite enthusiastic about you,” Qing Cang said, also intending to test Lan Hao.

“Alright,” Su Chen replied, thinking of what Lan Hao had said earlier, and agreed.

Then, Qing Cang called Lan Hao over.

Lan Hao’s heart skipped a beat when he learned the details. He glanced at Su Chen and hesitated, “This… it wouldn’t be good for us two to go out rashly, would it?”

He could get closer to Su Chen, but he really didn’t want to take risks.

Qing Cang shook his head, “The治安 at Equilibrium Hub is quite good. You won’t be in danger.”

“Okay,” Seeing that Qing Cang gave him no chance to refuse, Lan Hao couldn’t help but feel resentful again.

Su Chen was likely the focus of countless gazes; going out with him would more or less involve him in the aftermath.

    What if…

After leaving the room, Lan Hao remembered his father’s instructions and could only adjust his mindset, then left with Su Chen.

The hotel had a prepared flying vehicle for them to use as transportation.

“The Prophet Society should be at…” Lan Hao selected the coordinates on the virtual screen.

“What exactly is this Prophet Society?” Su Chen, oblivious to the outside world, didn’t hesitate to ask.

“It’s an intelligence organization spanning the Dust Star Sea,” Lan Hao explained. “You can buy almost any information you want from them.”

“An intelligence organization…” Su Chen pondered, then strangely asked, “Do you still have to buy it offline? There’s no website or anything where you can buy it with one click?”
