Chapter 42: Investigate! Thoroughly!

“Brother Su, thank you…” Du Yu was still shaken.

“Let’s go.” Yuan Chenyang led his team away, calling Su Chen along.

Following Yuan Chenyang, Su Chen boarded his remarkably luxurious car, with a calm black and blue palette, like a seemingly tranquil sea hiding raging waves.

The two sat in the back, the windows darkened, and they could barely hear the engine noise.

“There really were people trying to assassinate you.”

Yuan Chenyang spoke then, a thoughtful look in his eyes.

Su Chen acted as if he hadn’t heard, stroking the armrest between them. “Is there no mini-fridge in the back?”

Yuan Chenyang’s face darkened. “This is just a means of transport.”

Su Chen then sat up straight, righteously indignant: “These people openly made their move, they clearly don’t respect you at all.”

“There are many people who don’t respect me,” Yuan Chenyang said casually.

Su Chen continued as if he hadn’t heard: “Can we find any clues by tracking these people who made a move?”

“We certainly can,” Yuan Chenyang seemed a little lost in thought. “The leader was a second-order professional, and he looked vaguely familiar. He’s probably from Southwind City.”

“But you haven’t done anything, so why would they target you?”

Yuan Chenyang seemed to be talking to himself, and also asking Su Chen. Using Su Chen as bait was just a casual act, but the results surprised him.

Su Chen naturally knew why—it was probably those two swallowed space crystals—but on the surface, he looked confused: “I intercepted the Holy Word Stone, and Zhou Xian still thinks I killed his son. Isn’t that enough?”

“Zhou Xian is just a suspect, and he’s being closely watched,” Yuan Chenyang muttered. “Revenge for you intercepting the Holy Word Stone, is that thing really that important?”

Su Chen scratched his head, curiously asking: “So, what exactly is the Holy Word Stone for?”

Yuan Chenyang explained: “Its main purpose is to record professional information, and its secondary purpose is to serve as a medium to communicate with the mysterious gods.”

“What exactly are these mysterious gods?” Su Chen pressed.

“Mysterious gods…” Yuan Chenyang stumbled, rubbing his bald head. He seemed to think for a long time before saying, “Mysterious gods are just mysterious gods. They inspire worship and induce madness.”

Yuan Chenyang couldn’t explain the true nature of the mysterious gods. As if feeling embarrassed, he waved his hand impatiently and said, “The potion you asked Old Sun to get for you? I added a little something, and he’s already sent it to you.”

This was the benefit, so Su Chen immediately said, “Thank you, Teacher.”

“What’s wrong?” Seeing his hesitant look, Yuan Chenyang asked.

Su Chen hesitated and said, “Then, will I not be able to go out in the future?”

“Not necessarily,” Yuan Chenyang shook his head. “Southwind City hasn’t reached the point where it’s infested with the mysterious gods’ spies. This banquet has been prepared for a long time, and the invitation list could easily have been leaked, making it a good opportunity for ambush and assassination.”

“Normally, no one can predict when you’ll go out or where you’ll go.”

“That’s good,” Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief.

    ………

The banquet gradually dispersed. As they left, everyone was still discussing what had just happened. Zhang Hengyu followed Zhang Yunqing to see everyone off.

“What’s wrong?” Zhang Yunqing was still wondering if Su Chen was indeed a Swift Wind Walker and about that cyan gauntlet when she noticed her younger brother frowning deeply.

“Su Chen is better than me, he’s more qualified to go to Ying Feng,” Zhang Hengyu whispered. The battle just now happened in a flash.

He thought carefully, if it were him, it would be difficult to retreat unscathed.

“What is father usually doing?” Zhang Yunqing was slightly startled, and said helplessly, “This spot is useless for him anyway, vagrants will be subtly excluded.”

“But father can amend his information this year, there’s no need to wait another year.” Zhang Hengyu still felt a knot in his heart. “Why?” Zhang Yunqing’s gentle smile faded, her voice gradually grew colder, and she looked at Zhang Hengyu coldly, “Power is also a form of strength. Who told him he was born unlucky?”

“This isn’t just about yourself. If you don’t have this awareness, this spot can indeed be given to someone else.”

Zhang Hengyu looked over in astonishment, only to find that his sister had already turned and left, faintly hearing something like “stupid brother.”

    ………

Upon returning to the Supervision Department, Su Chen went upstairs obediently, while Yuan Chenyang took the bodies and the only survivor to the interrogation room. However, he wasn’t in high spirits; these guys were lunatics, and it was unlikely he’d get anything out of them.

Someone was already waiting in the corridor, short in stature and with a very unpleasant expression: “Director, the identity of that second-order professional has been clarified. It’s Chen Wu from the Exploration Department.”

    “Exploration Department!?”

Yuan Chenyang’s expression changed dramatically, and he ordered in a deep voice, “Old Du, seal this news. If anyone dares to leak it, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

Old Du nodded solemnly. The two came to a small room next to the interrogation room. Old Du looked at the survivor on the other side, who was grimacing and shouting something fanatically.

He whispered, “Director, what should we do?”

“They’ve really thrown a problem my way,” Yuan Chenyang said with a dark expression. “First there’s a ghost in the City Patrol Department, then someone from the Supervision Department secretly entered Su Chen’s room, and now the assassin is from the Exploration Department.”

“Southwind City has become a sieve! Ying Feng’s people are arriving soon. If they find out, we’re all screwed!”

“How about… we stop for now?” Old Du hesitated, “The City Lord went out with the City Patrol Chief. If they come back and find us investigating the traitors within their ranks, this…”

What if something really is found out?

“Clever tactics…” Yuan Chenyang’s eyebrows twitched, pacing back and forth. “But what’s the purpose of doing this? It’s bound to be exposed eventually. How long can they drag it out?”

“No!” Yuan Chenyang suddenly stopped, his eyes flashing with sharp light. “Their goal, perhaps, is to stall!”

“We don’t know the situation with the City Lord. If we wait for them to return to discuss, who knows what step things will reach!”

“Investigate, we must investigate!” Yuan Chenyang almost roared from his throat, “Start with the relatives and friends of these guys. Anyone suspicious, put them under surveillance!”

“And Zhou Xian, keep a close eye on him!”

Old Du’s heart trembled, and he quickly responded, “Understood!”

With the heads of the three violent agencies, two of them gone, there was really no one in Southwind City who dared to defy Yuan Chenyang.

But this kind of behavior was like a stab in the back, whether something was found or not.

When those two returned, they would be furious.

    ………

Su Chen, who was going upstairs, didn’t know that a storm was about to break out. All he saw was Old Sun standing at his door, smiling.

“Brother Sun, why are you waiting at my door again?” Su Chen said, glancing at the metal box in his hand.

“Just send a message if you need something, and I’ll come find you.”

“There’s nothing much to do in the office anyway,” Fatty Sun said cheerfully, following Su Chen into the room. After a few pleasantries, he placed the metal box on the table.

He opened the clasps, and a white, icy mist poured out. Inside, there were three rows of potions. The top row contained ten vials of Black Flame Potion.

The middle row was a rich, glowing blue, also ten vials.

But the pink potion at the very bottom only had three vials, and Su Chen had never even seen it before.
