Chapter 27: Azure-scaled Lion Pack!

After preparations were complete, the team set off again. The atmosphere today was somber, with almost no one speaking on the road. The misty path seemed endless.

The group walked from dawn to dusk, and it was time to set up camp again.

“Captain Hu, I’m not feeling well. I’m afraid I can’t stand guard tonight.” Su Chen raised his hand, covering his stomach, a wry smile on his face.

He had decided to stick with the main group and not act alone again. Hu Xiang was a second-tier professional.

“This guy, what in the world…” Hu Xiang just glanced at him indifferently. “Understood.”

He agreed so easily, Su Chen muttered to himself, what exactly did Hu Xiang mean? Could there be a hidden agenda?

“Captain Hu… I stood guard for two shifts yesterday. Can I rest today?” Zhou Zong also spoke weakly.

Hu Xiang frowned and reprimanded, “If you can’t even endure this little hardship, what are you doing here?

“Everyone says a tiger father has no dog sons, but I don’t think so. Today, you’re on the first shift!”

Zhou Zong’s face turned pale, feeling a burning sensation on his cheeks, as if he had been slapped.

This bastard, the differential treatment was too obvious!

Among the crowd, squadron leader Tang Chen was annoyed. This fool, he would have to wait until he finished his guard duty before looking for things on him.

Luckily, they would reach the delivery location in three days.

The others were silent, not daring to speak, only vaguely looking at Su Chen, puzzled.

How could he make Hu Xiang care so much?

Su Chen turned and went back to his tent, preparing to continue training. The others, with their weary bodies, joined the patrol team for night watch.

“Damn it, Hu Xiang, after we go back, I’ll definitely find a way to deal with you properly…” Zhou Zong cursed. The howling wind all around was unsettling.

The veteran next to him ignored him. After reaching the guard point, he became like a stone.

“And Su Chen…” Zhou Zong was still cursing. The thought of Su Chen comfortably resting in his tent made his blood boil.

“Quiet down…” Suddenly, the veteran next to him spoke in a muffled voice, startling Zhou Zong.

The veteran stared vigilantly into the darkness, his years of patrolling experience making him feel a sense of unease.

Suddenly, a pair of green eyes, as large as an adult’s head, opened in the darkness, and a foul wind swept over.

“Not good!” The veteran’s hair stood on end, and he whispered, “Zhou Zong, you…”

    “Help, enemy attack, help!”

A miserable wail came from behind, growing fainter and fainter. The veteran was slightly stunned, revealing a helpless wry smile, but his face gradually lost color.

In the darkness, more green pupils opened.

    “Enemy attack!”

A shrill, hoarse, and somewhat familiar voice suddenly echoed through the camp.

Su Chen’s heart tightened. He darted out of the tent. Outside, it was already chaos. A gasping Zhou Zong was holding Hu Xiang’s arm and saying something.

    Boom!

Sparks erupted on the energy barrier outside the camp. Tents flew, their main purpose being to isolate the mist, so their defensive power was not high.

    “Roar!”

In the night, the silhouette of a giant beast gradually emerged. Its huge green eyes seemed intent on devouring people. Its outline gradually appeared, much larger than the Gluttonous Wolf they had encountered before.

It was nearly ten meters tall, with soaring shoulders and bulging muscles under its full-body scales. A chilling aura swept over them.

Su Chen looked on with a grave expression, his heart rate gradually accelerating.

“Second-tier mutated creature, Azure-scaled Giant Lion…” Hu Xiang gasped. “How could something like this break through the defensive perimeter?”

“Alert!” he roared. The patrol team had already begun to move, forming ranks, setting up firearms, with professionals at the front, students at the back, arranged in order.

His subordinates reacted quickly, but Hu Xiang’s expression grew even more serious. Following this giant lion were smaller lions.

“A lion pack…” Hu Xiang’s palms were sweating. If there was only one lion, he was confident he could kill it, but now it was a lion pack. “What happened? What are the fortress guards doing?!”

“Roar!” The giant lion roared, like a bugle call for attack, charging like a small mountain. Its front paws crushed rocks, its muscular back tensed like a drawn bowstring, and its amber eyes reflected terrified faces.

Hu Xiang gritted his teeth. With a clang, he gripped his weapon. Scarlet flames streaked across the sky as he had no choice but to meet the charge.

    “Mommy…”

    “Help…”

    “…”

The patrol team was well-trained and could maintain formation, but most of the students had already started crying out for their parents and running around in a panic.

There were not many professionals in the patrol team, only seven. They stood at the front of the formation, swaying as they stared at the gradually encircling lion pack.

    Whoosh!

A figure leaped out of the crowd. It was Bai Fengxi, standing with the other first-tier professionals.

Everyone was startled, thinking she had lost her mind, but then they realized that a cold aura was emanating from her.

“She’s already a professional, and she has elemental power?” Only then did the others understand.

“Fire!” With an order, sparks burst, and bullets shot out like a torrent, but they only clinked and clanged against the Azure-scaled Lion’s green scales.

    Boom!

A ball of fire exploded among the lion pack, some kind of explosive.

    Roar–

Before the fire and smoke could dissipate, shadows charged out of it. The lion pack numbered no less than twenty, varying in size, wrapped in scorching air currents, charging like cavalry, unstoppable.

Even if they weren’t all first-tier mutated creatures, there were still no fewer than a dozen!

    “Disperse, disperse!”

The patrol team shouted loudly, not daring to gather together. Even without their words, most of the students had already cried and run away.

“Damn it!” Zhou Zong crawled like a dog. He was targeted by a giant lion, no less than five meters tall. It must have been a first-tier mutated creature, and he was extremely terrified.

“Don’t chase me, don’t chase me!”

Zhou Zong deliberately ran towards crowded places, leaving one figure after another behind him.

He was almost only one step away from being a first-tier professional, and his physical quality was good. There were not many people present who could fight him, and cries of agony rose and fell.

“Su, Su Chen!” In his panic, Zhou Zong saw Su Chen standing far away, seemingly stunned.

He had a target and ran directly towards Su Chen.

    “Die!”

Seeing his wish about to be fulfilled, Zhou Zong’s panic seemed to lessen, and a ferocious smile appeared on his face. He reached out and grabbed the other’s arm, intending to throw him away.

    Hmm?

Zhou Zong’s face stiffened, looking at the expressionless Su Chen in front of him, the veins on his arm twitching. He should have been able to throw him away like a chick.

But he felt as if he had grabbed a mountain, and even with all his strength, he couldn’t move it an inch.

    Boom!

The thudding sound from behind grew closer. Zhou Zong had no time to think about anything else and instinctively wanted to escape.

But an iron-like grip came from his arm. He turned to see Su Chen’s arm grabbing him back, staring at him coldly.

“You, what are you doing!” Zhou Zong blustered, the giant lion now close. “Lunatic, if you want to die, don’t drag me with you!”

    Crack–

A flash of white light came from the side. Bai Fengxi descended from the sky, kicking over the attacking giant lion.

It staggered, and thin ice crystals spread over its scales, but it just shook its head and broke them, not being seriously injured.

“If you publicly cause his death, you’ll be in trouble,” Bai Fengxi said with her back to the two of them.

Zhou Zong subconsciously replied, “What kind of trouble could there be?”

“Alright,” Su Chen shrugged, and casually threw Zhou Zong away.

Zhou Zong looked astonished. What did that mean? Bai Fengxi was talking to Su Chen.

    He could kill me?
